This is a movie that makes you think - as you follow the story, you feel that you are being told a certain story, but in reality, the story is much different than it seems. This shouldn't be a spoiler, it's just the way the movie was filmed. Amazing music, and beautiful visuals (in 4K it looks great!)

The screenplay was tenuous during some of the flashback material needed for viewer information. One unusual element was the use of echo to engage the viewer as if in the movie, might give some a headache - difficult to explain the experience. Concepts of establishing communication with unknown was great.

Arrival still reveals its many layers after several viewings. I thought I had a handle on it after seeing it the second time, but even then, I seemed to miss a key component of its mystery. It’s a triumph of mood and atmosphere, but also of ideas, with its concept of non-linear time being rather ingenious. This Blu-Ray Steelbook is amazing.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie! It is not your standard aliens, space ships, space battles and special effects. Rather it is a thinking person's sci-fi. Looking forward to watching it again to see what I (likely) missed the first time.

Arrival is a dazzling cinematic (near) masterpiece that requires, and deserves, undivided attention. Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner are stand-outs and play very believable parts, especially when enhanced by the performance of Forest Whitaker. Hard sci-fi that has a "blink and you'll miss it" ending. Well worth the addition to any sci-fi afficionado's collection.

One of the best of last year's films, Villineuve continues to prove as one of our best modern and thoughtful directors, climbing the ranks of Fincher and (some might say) Nolan. All aspects of production are firing in all cylinders. There are a few low spots in the script but the film more than recovers from those. Also, it's a great looking disc. Recommended.

I read the reviews, but was surprised by the story line. My friend and I were excited to see Arrival was out on DVD, but expected something different. It seemed to move slowly with many flash backs, but did have a surprise ending. I think I will have to watch it a second time to fully understand it.

Ok first let me say I bought this on impulse because I had wanted to see it in theaters but never did and was told how awesome this movie was. Maybe this movie is over my head but there were many times I had to pause the movie and ask my wife "what the heck just happened?" Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner do an awesome job selling their characters to the Audience and the movie is shot beautifully but at the end of the movie both my wife and I were silent for a few minutes and we both looked at each other and went huh? Maybe the academy is a little out of touch with today's viewers "lord knows it wouldn't be the first time" but I think this movie is a little overhyped. If you decide to purchase this movie and watch it for the first time as I did go in with little expectations and I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised.

Not going to review the Movie because so many better reviews. But it is a great turn on the 'visitor' genre. This review is for the disc which includes the Bluray and digital copy. I used my digital copy code on both iTunes and Ultraviolet, which sometimes works. This does not include a DVD.

We thought this movie was good, maybe not great, so giving only 4 stars. On the other hand, we talked about twists in the plot for 10 minutes after the movie ended, and need to watch it again, knowing things now that we couldn't completely grasp during our first viewing. That's a good thing!

This movie about aliens visiting earth is not like past ones. Shot in a different visual style, depicts alien intelligence and alien motives differently, yet remains true to how humans may very well react in this situation. Quality acting, quality filming, great story, and a great movie overall.

This movie attempted to hit a different spot among movies made re visiting creatures from other planets. The human challenge to communicate with such unknown quantities reminded me of our awkwardness in dealing with people from different cultures as ours. That was the best part about this movie.

This is a film that is already standing the test of time, in my view. It's about changing the way we think in fundamental ways that open new possibilities for the human race. Excellent portrayal by Amy Adams and impressive 4K images.

This movie was an excellent unusual and interesting, space movie, unlike most in many ways. The main character seemed to carry the plot well with the support of the others. It was nice to see her in this role, it helped me to see her in a way I had not seen her in the past.

Based on the short story "Story of Your Life" by the great Ted Chiang, this is Amy Adams movie, expertly guided by director Denis Villeneuve. Some of the tweaks to the original story are slightly annoying, but don't detract from the over all theme. A great supporting cast and great special effects help Adams do some very subtle heavy lifting. Awesome!

Read the novella first ("The Story of Your Life" by Ted Chaing) then watch the movie. This is a brilliant film! The adaptation from the book is magnificent but the written story has so much more of an emotional punch. I repeat, read the story, then see the film both are great. You will thank me! By the way the Bluray is excellent both audio and video.

This is a solid story, including an interesting treatment of concepts of time, the nature of language, and engaging human interest. A piercing question posed near the end adds poignance to the movie. The quality of the video is stunning. Your equipment should display good black levels, and it would be good to watch in a darkened room. Great movie.

The premise was good, timeline intriguing,and the acting was good.This adds up to a good review but add in good directing and plenty of action and you have too many solid points to just settle for good and I think it deserves another half star( unfortunately this was not an option). MWK

I liked it a lot. It wasn't really action packed or anything, but it kept me wondering what would happen next. Might be a bit slow at times, but still definitely worth watching. Certainly a new take on 'first contact' and how that would possibly play out. I mean, assuming we didn't immediately destroy any alien visitors the second they arrived.

This movie is intense. Not in an action, shooter movie way, but in a moment-to-moment you're anticipating what will happen next kind of way. I can't stand long winded movie reviews. Just like I can't stand it when trailers give away too much of a movie. This movie is incredible. If you love science fiction and alien movies, you'll love this movie!
