I blindly purchased this movie solely based on word of mouth, and I'm glad I did! It was very thought-provoking and kept me entertained from start to finish. The movie has a very "drab and dreary" look to it, but that was the directors intentions. Regardless, it still looks VERY clean on 4K UHD Blu Ray with sharp looking images and some nice use of HDR. Audio is incredible. Especially when you hear the aliens walking to the roaring of helicopters overhead. It will definitely give your subwoofers a work out. ;) I overall highly recommend this movie if you're on the fence about buying it!

Many sci fi relies on super make ups or shocking fight scenes to impress and in the end, leaves me empty or felt like I wasted a couple good hours. Arrival was different in that if we humans were visited by some intelligent being (or entity), how would we react? Fear and use hostile force first? And how does one communicate especially if their culture or thinking process was entirely different than ours? The script was fresh and original as with the writer's thought process. So good was this movie I bought the 4K BluRay version as a "keeper" to watch over again with friends and family.

To me this is the best film of all the Oscar Nods I've seen. I'm a Sucker for Cinematography, so the way this was shot along with the awesome score sucked me right in. I went into this movie knowing it wasn't going to be an all out alien invasion shoot out, with Baysplosions and stuff. It is very slow paced. So if you're expecting some sort of Independence Day kind of movie you'll be very disappointed, hating it, and thinking it's very boring. I loved the shotsame, score, the tension that was given by the pacing, and the way it ended. I will say the last line has to be the cheesiest line ever.

Arrival on 4K has become one of my favorite movies. Annoyed with all the commercial interruptions when trying to watch the movie on cable TV, I decided to take a chance and bought this 4K disc of Arrival. Not only was the movie so much easier to follow, but the cinematography & sound design greatly enhance the viewing experience. Highly recommended.

I found this film to be compelling and kept me riveted to the screen. The acting is excellent, SFX equally so and a solid story line. Some reviewers found it boring. I don't get that, except that there weren't any car chases to keep their attention. It isn't deep by any stretch of the imagination, but it is thought provoking. I do tire of Hollywood's constant portrayal of anyone in uniform as mindless dolts who just do what they are told. THAT is an alternate reality.

This movie was not at all what I had expected. That said I did enjoy the movie and found that it left me thinking a lot about the overall theme of the story itself. Do yourself a favor after watching this movie on disc and take a look at some of the extras on the disc which help explain the writer's view point and the director's challenges in putting the movie together. After looking at the extras you will have a much better appreciation of the effort that went into making this movie.

I missed this one in the theater so I was very please to see it released on Blu Ray so quickly after the theatrical release. The story and its presentation on film is nothing short of mind bending and in great form you don't realize until the end what is when and when is what. This a thinking persons SciFi film so don't expect blasters and explosions in space. I've actually watched it 3 times to "get it". Beautiful cinematography, direction, and performances. Great video and audio transfer to Blu. This one will have you scratching your head. Highly recommended!

A science fiction film akin to interstellar, but if interstellar is bombastic, arrival is its intimate counterpart. Also it's nice to see two major recent "blockbuster" films have a strong focus on science. And while interstellar has a focus on time dilation and physics...and...5th dimensions, arrival is more focused on linguistics.

This is what sci-fi needed to breathe some fresh air into the genre. This was an intelligent film that doesn't need violence to push its narrative. The blu-ray is pretty fantastic, especially in the audio department. If you aren't utilizing an SVS subwoofer in your home theater, you need to, and then put in this disc. The sound design of this film tells its own story, and it has a lot to say. Yes, the image is a little dark, but that was an artistic decision that works very well. We are kept in the dark, just as the characters are kept in the dark.

If you are buying this movie thinking you will be in for a visual feast, think again. While the story itself was great and kept me entertained, this is one of the darkest movies that I have ever seen. I highly recommend the movie itself, but be aware that it is very dark and dim throughout, so much so that you almost feel like something is wrong with the video transfer. Although it is "director's intent," from what I understand, it still left me scratching my head.

Without a doubt my favorite film of 2016. Coming off a year that was so divisive, we needed something that preaches the importance of communication and understanding what people mean by their words. Don't just take a sloppy guess and assume you know what they mean, actually listen. This film shows us what we could accomplish if we just listen and what happens if we do not. A terrific sci-fi film that has more to it than what is on the surface.

Arrival addresses the question of how communication would be established between extra terrestrials should contact occur. This extraordinary difficult subject is presented to the audience artfully with a focus on interllectual understanding while the special effects and subplots keep the story both fascinating and intertaining with the younger viewers. Outstanding acting complements superb script. Easy to locate as Best Buy always places new releases at the of the store front for quick effortless shopping. Great movie at a great price.

Denis Villeneuve wisely chose to bring Ted Chiang’s story to the screen, expanded to feature length by an Eric Heisserer script that both artfully grounds the inner conflict between philosophy and emotion. But the indisputable MVP here is Amy Adams, who should’ve filed a lawsuit when they gave her Oscar to someone else.

The idea on the translating from an unknown language into another and its written from and complexity is well interpreted. This sci-fi is not action pack but helps me understand how a word can be easily miss understood. Not much CGI which is a nice change for this type of film. Would most definitely like to see a sequel. Can't say much with out giving any spoilers and a few things that makes this film good.

Denis is currently the buzz director for successfully takling Frank Herbert’s Dune and is being unduly praised for it. But, Arrival is Denis masterpiece, second to blade runner’s sequel. Dune just bored me though I am a huge fan of Dune as a collected work. But ARRIVAL was so fresh though simple. If you like good Cinema….this is it.

Story was great. Well acted. Amy Adams does a far beyond excellent acting job. Jeremy Renner is wonderful in his supporting role. Really like the way the story moved back and got on time. Though provoking subject left viewer to consider how they would decide their course of action. Aliens were like no other image done before. Concept of the language was a little had to follow. Forrest Whitaker was his usual sting believable character. Would strongly recommend this movie. Also enjoyed the added extras available to watch.

It took me four viewings to finally appreciate all the nuances of this story of alien spaceships descending to and hovering above Planet Earth. As the human race attempts to communicate with the alien creatures, linguist Amy Adams and scientist Jeremy Renner work together to ultimately decipher the aliens' message. The aliens' concept of time is intertwined with our human perspective of linear time and storytelling. What is past, present and future is a conundrum waiting to be resolved by the viewer.

In my opinion, the only way to buy movies now is with 4K discs. For only $10 over blu-ray prices, you get a 4K disc with the blu-ray and no longer have a useless DVD. Add to that the digital copy and it's actually a great deal. Arrival is a beautifully crafted film by Denis Villenueve that is filled with scenic views and captivating storytelling that greatly benefits from 4K. Only thing this lacks is Dolby Atmos/DTS:X, but I won't knock off a star because this movie is one of my favorites.

This movie was a little dissapointment. All the hype about the movie; however, a dull ending. No spoiler alert.

Arrival is an intelligent film with a powerful payoff, but the spirit of Arrival is what shines brightest in this immersive sci-fi masterpiece. Effective science fiction reaches out to the audience and begs them to engage and ponder our journey in this life, and Arrival's journey is captivating! The direction is tight, the cinematography and effects are breathtaking, and performances by Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker are excellent. Watch this and watch it again! Arrival is highly recommended!
