This film is definitely a tear jerker and a somewhat heavy. The pacing is a little slow on this story, so if you're looking for an action packed alien film, Arrival is not for you. Aliens have a arrived in multiple locations on earth, and linguistist are trying to dechiper their language to understand their purpose on earth and determine if they pose a threat. Very different from the usual alien film. It's a good drama.

The movie "Arrival" should have won Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Actress for Amy Adams, in my opinion. It got the nomination for Best Picture, but Adams somehow was passed over for the actress nomination. .Nonetheless, the movie is a delight. The writing was clever and original, the performances were superb, and it was entirely unpredictable to me. When I saw Best Buy had a Blu-Ray edition at a great price on Black Friday, I jumped at it -- and am happy to own a copy of it.

Arrival is beautiful on so many levels. It's smart, realistic (relatively speaking), moving, thrilling, surprising, engaging. My words could never do it justice, but as long as you don't expect this to be an action movie, I can't imagine you won't find value in this movie. The Blu-Ray has a decent amount of features, not extremely thorough, but not totally lacking either. I'd say the bonus content is about a 3/5 due to length, but it is very interesting, insightful and well-produced.

This is an alien invasion movie that takes a cerebral view. It deals with a linguist who is tasked with figuring out how to communicate with the aliens that have landed on Earth. Racing against time to solve this before military intervention is initiated (with possible world-ending results), the plot moves along quickly. Not wishing to give too much away, the film ends with a very intriguing concept, leaving me with a profound "WOW" moment. This is definitely worth the watch.

In beefing up my 4K HDR blu ray collection, Arrival felt like a must have. While I'm glad I bought it and have it in my collection, I'm not sure if I find the film to be all that rewatchable. With that aside, the packaging and special features included are very entertaining and informative. The best aspect of this is the clean, highest quality video transfer to the new HDR 4K image. This is a film that really benefits from this upgrade. I definitely suggest you pick it up.

The only bad thing I can say about Arrival is that if you're looking for fast-paced, action-packed movies, this probably isn't for you. That said, if you're even a little open to a movie that makes you think, I can't recommend this enough. The performances are Oscar-worthy, it presents some great philosophical ideas and it has one of the best endings I've ever seen. I literally had to pause the movie so that I could fully process just how mind-blowing it actually was. Absolutely amazing

Can we ever be sure how we will react to a particular situation? How about if you knew what was coming? Would we even go down that road if we could avoid it? Many of us would probably say no, even if it meant love lost. And therein lies the problem. We are getting so desensitized today that we can't feel. We are getting so afraid of the future that we can't enjoy. We are getting so stubborn of our wants and needs that we can't give. So what would the aliens say? Watch and find out!

I was initially interested in the movie because it appeared to a unique and compelling sci-fi movie. What I was surprised about was the amount of heart in this film. I rate this a must watch for anyone, whether you like sci-fi or not. While the beginning can be a little slow due to setting up the movie as a whole, it will draw you in and not let go. And eventually you will discover a film that has a deeper understanding of love than practically any romantic film out there.

Arrival is one of the best films of 2016. Although it is of the Science Fiction genre, its story will appeal to a much wider audience. Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner are outstanding as a linguist and a physicist trying to figure out how to communicate with an alien race that has just paid us a visit. It's a terrific study in how language shapes our brains, and the revelation that Amy Adams's character has a result is truly awe-inspiring. Add this movie to your collection today!

This film delivers on So many levels, it’s almost impossible to discuss this film without spoilers. There’s is nothing brash, or heavy handed about it, the story is superbly told, with well grounded characters., with Awesome special effects. and the soundtrack is so haunted it draws you in. The blu-ray has many special features, but no audio commentary by the director.

I just love this movie. I thought that it was great from start to finish with many strong actors in the mix such as Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, and Forest Whitaker. It had the right amount of twists and turns to keep you guessing for the entirety of the movie what the central plot was going to be. One moment you would think that you had it figured out only to have those theories crushed. No wonder this was a contender for the Oscars this year for best picture.

Great movie!! It starts off a little slow, but it grabs your attention early on. Its one of those movies that you can NOT talk to anyone while you're watching it, or fall to sleep on it, because if you do, you'll be lost and won't get the movie. Its an intellectual sci-fi thriller, that you have to THINK to understand. I'm sure a lot of people won't get the plot, because of not being fully committed to paying attention to everything said and done in it. ...Great movie!!!

found this film to be compelling and kept me riveted to the screen. The acting is excellent, SFX equally so and a solid story line. Some reviewers found it boring. I don't get that, except that there weren't any car chases to keep their attention. It isn't deep by any stretch of the imagination, but it is thought provoking. I do tire of Hollywood's constant portrayal of anyone in uniform as mindless dolts who just do what they are told. THAT is an alternate reality.

I like sci-fi movies. Action sci-fi movies are the best. This is not one of those. This is more of a thinking sci-fi movie, like interstellar or The Martain. That being said, it was pretty dang good. After it was done, I was left pondering the entire movie and wanted to watch it again in the next day or two to tie it all together. If you like thinking movies, definitely don't miss this one.

I did not get a chance to see this film at the theater - but wish I had. It is one of the most thought provoking films I have seen since The Matrix which dealt with our perception of reality. Arrival however is not an action movie but more of a drama/mystery. The overall theme is communication and/or lack thereof and what may or may not happen if it breaks down or seems impossible to achieve with an underlying perception of time through out the film. Don't miss it.

So much has been said about this film with many people either totally liking or disliking. People have also argued over the dark tone of the cinematography of which it was the director's choice to finish this way which mutes typical science fiction frenzy to concentrate on the storyline . The film draws to mind possibilities which are presented for the viewer to examine which become integral to the storyline. 4K is not noticeably better than a standard blu-ray.

I hope Arrival upsets and wins tonight's Oscars. If it does not, at least I will know it's still the best, in my opinion. The movie makes you think about how we communicate. But there is more to the story than just alien invasion. The audio and video quality are top-notch and the sound design is worthy of nomination. The extras delve into the translation of story (Doug Chiang's "Story of Your Life") to screen, editing, music. A worthy title to your collection.

I've seen a lot of movies with similar themes, so if you're looking for something really different in a story line, this isn't it. But, if you're looking for a movie to just sit back and chill with, this might just fit the bill. Acting was well done, as was the special effects. I have to say that the aliens lacked personality. Watch the movie and you'll see what I mean. Enjoy.

Over all good and attentive movie. You will jump back and forwards i time but u will know at the end whats going on. Its about a linguist chosen by the military to have verbal contact a alien species that landed on earth. 12 countries are trying to figure it out why they are there. Leaders are panicing on their superiority or the human race and are worried about a alien attack. Or the aliens siding with their enemies. Good science-fiction for now

I waited for this movie to come out on disc and was not disappointed. It was different in most part but it is a movie that you need to watch all of the way through. It did have the usual military type of action, shoot and kill first and interrogate who is left..But I definitely suggest getting it and I plan on watching the extras which will help understand the language of the movie.
