Customers are saying

Customers regard the A40 TR Wired Gaming Headset as having excellent sound quality and comfortable design, with many praising the MixAmp's functionality and customization options. However, some customers find the headset expensive and have noted compatibility issues with certain consoles, along with concerns about weight and setup complexity. The headband's durability has also been questioned by a few users. Overall, the positive feedback on audio and comfort is significant, but potential buyers should consider the price, compatibility, and weight before purchasing.

That's unpleasant to hear. Be sure the cable is seated correctly in both the headset and MIxAmp. You should feel the cable click into place. Check the headset assigns to the console or PC you’re using it on. On the back of the MixAmp, switch the MixAmp from Console mode to PC Mode and then back to the correct device you’re on. If the issue is still not resolved, we'd recommend you to please contact the customer support team so that they can let you know the next steps at the earliest.

This headset can play with very loud volume but you don’t need to since the audio is so clear. I felt the ‘Tournament’ equalizer position was the best for games or voice or music. The ‘Natural Bass’ setting was my second choice due to the nice bass effect - not too much but noticeable. The game sounds really pop with these headphones. There are 4 equalizer presets and you can even create your own equalizer levels using an app on Windows called “Astro Command Center”. The equalizer will dial in the right sound ‘atmosphere’ for anyone I think, since it is fully adjustable. You can easily reset all settings if you get a little messed up and want to start over. You can change main presets in the app or use the button on the mixamp. This app will also let you make changes easily for the microphone and other settings – check it out. The app will update your firmware automatically or you can set it to only update firmware manually which I prefer. I needed to update the firmware when I first used the headphones. There is a Quickstart Guide in the box and at first, I didn’t see it; it is under the cables. Actually the packaging is excellent and reflects how high the build quality of this product is. Super solid feel to phones and even the cables are superior quality. It is wired only not wireless, however the cables for the headset and the USB cable are very long – no problem there. The box itself has a very detailed schematic of all the features – so don’t throw it away. The comfort is superb I think due to the adjustment capability and I do prefer the soft felt cushions versus leather cushions. This felt material helps you avoid sweating and also allows a bit of air to circulate to keep things from getting warm on your ears. Very nice design point indeed. The sound quality and the surround sound is amazing. Here’s a nice video to watch that is short but shows you the connection process properly if you don’t like reading the manuals. https://www.google.com/search?source=hp&ei=guX9XOivFq_p_Qbi77m4DQ&q=astro+a40+%2B+mixamp+pro+tr+quick+guide&oq=astro&gs_l=psy-ab.1.0.35i39l2j0i131j0l4j0i131j0l2.3696.4857..10934...1.0..0.81.388.6......0....1..gws-wiz.....6.MSJs8A357Yk#kpvalbx=1 I was able to wear my glasses while also wearing the headset. My ears did not get pinched wearing the headset, which is important to me as I am a senior citizen and we often get larger ears over time. This is actually very important that the earcups are big enough to cover large or small ears properly. I thought the headset got more comfortable after about 10 hours – so give the headset a chance to maybe break in a little. Never uncomfortable but definitely got better with some usage. The volume and chat balance dials are very smooth and responsive, this can help you find the right settings for you easily. The magic that balances the voice versus game volume is amazing and you will love it. I highly recommend these headsets for any gamer or even anyone who wants more control over the excellent audio that these headphones provide.

OK no doubt that more money buys (usually) a better headset. Switched to these coming off a $100-ish surround sound gaming headset and the higher price definitely shows with immediate improvements in fit, comfort, sound quality coming in, and mic quality going out. Build quality definitely a plus, and this is not a set of phones that you figure will need replacing in a year or so, these seem built for long-term performance. Just starting to get into the gameplay recording and broadcasting channels, so this is a first step in having equipment that allows the game and mic audio to be captured and controlled with a designed device. From first attempts, there is a small learning curve to set up the pre-sets to accommodate different recording and broadcasting requirements, but once the pre-sets are dialed in it is very easy to switch around with the push of a button for up to 4 settings. There is still a lot to be learned to get the best performance out of the Mixamp Pro console, but not overly complex – just takes some trial and error and getting used to having more options in the new equipment. Definitely download the Command Center software to be able to fully appreciate the versatility and performance capabilities of this rig. Also other reviewers recommend downloading the Astro Command Center from the Windows App Store instead of from the Astro web site – didn’t try both of them out for myself but just went with the Windows App Store version (running on a PC for gaming) and there were not problems with the installation and recognition of the hardware. There are many tips and tricks for the best setup given in other reviews, so please give those a read to help you avoid frustration or having to actually read the instruction manual. Particularly if you are a PC gamer, read through the tips from reviewer JamexRZ for lots of helpful information. If you are planning to tote this system around for use at other locations, plan to get a tote bag or something to keep everything together, as there is not one provided with the headset. Have room for some extra cables that are needed, as nothing worse than wanting to show off your new gear and not having everything you need in the bag to get it working. Overall, these seem worth the price tag with the comfort, sound quality, strong build, and recording/broadcasting accessories.

First off, I would like to comment on how durable and light this headset feels. They have managed to put two opposing attributes together and make it work. Most of the time when you get something that is so light, durability is sacrificed, and typically when high durability is achieved it's bulky. Astro has brought together high quality aluminum and plastics to make a very comfortable, lightweight, and strong headset capable of putting out tournament quality Dolby sound, with an easy to use and convenient MixAmp. The MixAmp has 2 easy to access dials for volume and voice vs game levels, and a passthrough or Dolby audio button . It has 4 preset equalizer options for Astro, Balanced, Flat, and Tournament sound settings. The MixAmp has several input methods, to use on virtually any console or PC, including optical, usb, and 3.5mm. The amp has a dedicated stream port, and daisy chain ports as well. The headset can actually be customized through the Astro website, where you can order customized speaker covers, cushions, headband covers, and mic. You can also order synthetic leather noise-isolating ear cushions, voice-isolating mic, padded headband and closed-back Speaker Tags. The great thing is that the ear cushions and speaker covers are held on by strong magnets, so changing or cleaning these parts is a breeze. With all the effort that Astro put into the quality and customization of the aesthetics, they put just as much effort into the sound quality. Sounds, voices, and in game music are loud, clear, and extremely easy to pinpoint direction on a 360 basis. Explosions have good impact while voices can still be understood. It's always impressive to hear all the tiny additional sounds coders put into the games, .. ie, mice, flies, birds, and even the wind. All things most people miss without a good headset. I really like how none of the audio controls are anywhere on the actual headset, the mute is easy to access on the cable, and everything else is on the amp. I hate having to fumble around with a headset that has everything on the actual ear cups, so most of the time, I have to take off the headset to find the mute, or other options, because my fingers can't feel the difference between the delicate buttons. Great job Astro, on such a great sounding, solid headset!
