It’s never clear if open box items are return items or display items. There should be some sort of cleaning process and quality control for open-box items. The one I received was disgusting. It had a lot of hairs on the ear cups. There was scum and oil spots around the headset. Do better BB.

The Astro A50 is supposed a gamers headset which allows both superb audio and voice chat with the ability to adjust your audio and chat settings via their latest firmware update to their hub. The big question comes down to rather or not this is going to fit the bill for you. Hopefully this review will help to clear up any buying decisions you may be facing. First things first, lets talk about what you can expect to receive right out of the box. Out of the box you will receive the base unit (which serves as the charging dock), headset, micro usb cable and optical cable. Set up is very easy and only takes a matter of minutes. The base station has a optical in and out port and can be switched between PC mode and PS4 mode. On the main headset unit itself you can switch between Dolby audio and standard along with the ability to switch between three equalizer pre sets which can be changed and named via the free PC app. The mic flips up and down to turn the mic on and off which is a pretty nice feature to have. Charging is done one of two ways, you can run the micro usb cable directly to the headset or you can set the headset on the base station for it to charge over night. The base station uses magnets to help line the headset up for charging on the dock and does a very nice job of accomplishing this. The ear cups, mic, side covers and band can all be replaced via Astro's website with customizable gear to help set you apart from everyone else. There are a few key items i look for in gaming headsets. One of the most important being comfort and the second being sound quality and the ability to adjust my settings on the fly. Lets talk comfort for a second here. One of the first things i noticed about this headset was the ear cup design. I have several different gaming headsets i use and one thing they all share in common is a nice big cushion on the ear cups. Some of my better headsets even use a gel design to help keep you cool and prevent sweat build up. The ear cups on the Astro A50 are nothing special whatsoever. In fact over several hours of use i felt them to become uncomfortable as the cushion design seemed to be too thin. One of the first upgrades i would do to this unit is buy an upgrade to the ear cups. Kinda sucks that i would i have to do this on a gaming head set but hey i guess that's how they make money. The head band itself is made of what appears to be plastic or really strong fiberglass. I mention this design because it does take some break in period. When i first wore this headset the band was very uncomfortable and would give me headaches after long use. However after several weeks of continuous use i can safely say that the band has stretched out a bit and is now starting to feel a lot more comfortable. Lets get in to the real meat of this headset and the main reason for purchase which is audio and voice quality along with functionality. The audio quality is very impressive. Using the Dolby surround sound mode you can clearly make out sounds in your game and judge roughly how far away they are and which distance they are coming from. While playing out Fallout 76 or The Division 2 i was able to judge where my enemy was simply by the sound of his gunfire. The Dolby surround sound did such a good job with helping to immerse me in the game that i felt almost as if i had advantage over my enemies. Now keep in mind that in order for this set up to work good your PC or Console must support this feature. Mic quality is good and provides no issues. With this being a wireless unit i never once experienced any drop outs or distortion. Now this unit makes a great addition for people that like to stream. With the free Astro PC app you can adjust several key features to help set your mic and audio up for gaming or streaming. You can adjust game in and mic volume so you can get more of what you want. You have a built in equilizer which you can set up for your gaming preference and then set them to one of your 3 hotbar equalizer presets on the base station. For example my first preset is designed for shooter games which is more bass heavy so that i can feel the bullets and explosions, while my second preset is geared more towards mmo's which allow for more highs and mids so that i am able to take in all the background noise like leaves blowing or birds chirping. The app also provides 4 noise gate presets, streaming, night, home and tournament mode. Since i don't stream too often i like to keep my gate on home mode so that it doesn't flood the voice chat with all kinds of background noises from my wife or kids running around. Now with all that being said and done there is one key feature that i would of love to see and hopefully see in the future and that is the add on of an android app so that i don't have to keep hooking this unit up to my PC to adjust my settings. As a big mmo player i like to have to ability to adjust all my settings via a app on my phone and believe it or not this is the only headset i own that does not allow for that feature. Its kind of sad really cause with as far as technology has come there is a app for everything on android. I mean for crying out loud my MSI motherboard even has an app to adjust settings via my phone. Most people may not care for this but the reason why this stand outs to me so much is because most mmo players spend alot of time grinding away for better gear or loot or whatever. While im grinding away i like to have the ability to stream music to my headset and adjust the audio output between in game music and my personal play list. This head set does not allow the use of this feature and the main reason is cause the base station acts more of a charging station rather than a central hub. Here's the bottom line. This headset is a good set up with awesome audio quality and great mic settings. This is a perfect set up for anyone looking to reduce wire clutter around their battle station while being able to game with fluid audio streaming. The long battery life ensures that you should be able to easily get 15 hours of straight use before needing a charge, least that's the amount of time i got. The design is simplistic but yet still retains a sense of style. Comfort is a little off and does require some break in time so keep that in mind while moving forward. Over all this is a great headset, not one of my favorites but definitely a very good entry level headset for any novice to mid level gamer or streamer out there. If you do pick this unit up i think you will be very happy with how well the Dolby surround sound works and how immerse it helps you get.

Immerse your gaming with detail sound

Sound After playing a few hours of Call of Duty on PS4 I can write this with confidence that the sound quality is outstanding. I was able to hear the detail sounds that the game developers wanted gamers to hear. I performed really well when I used the Astro A50 because I heard the footsteps and environment game changes better. I’m impressed on how much of a difference it made playing my game using the new A50. The new Astro A50 supports Dolby audio and I can turn it on or off right from the headset. Also it has a mic that I can slide down to talk or have it up to mute my chats. During the game with a simple click on the right side of the headset I can balance the voice and game sound. To help fine tune the game experience we can also download a free software to further customize the A50. Battery I played for about 3-4 hours and I only lost only 1 out of 4 lights that indicates how much power I have remaining. This is a great thing because pro gamers will have plenty of time before needing a recharge. For my gaming I think over 15 hours from every battery recharge is more than I will be needing. Comfort The headset is very comfortable because it is wireless, lightweight, softly padded on my head and over my ears. The frame is sturdy and it don’t press uncomfortably on my ears. The headset is comfortable to where I can lay on my back while wearing them and remain comfortable. Style The new A50 is a great looking gaming headset. I’ve seen a few ugly gaming headsets but the A50 is not in that category. I get pro quality audio and futuristic style with the new Astro A50. Cons -Padding on the headset are not leather. If premium is the aim I think the leather would make it more elegant for the price. I did read that the padding are removable to interchange to any liking but I have not explore that yet to determine if it’s worth the extra cost for me. -No auto off feature to preserve battery when not in use. Pros -Wireless with a charging dock for easy battery recharge. -On the headset the controls are at fingertips reach to make it easy to adjust preferred settings. Final opinion Meets my expectations with sound quality and this is a great headset for novice and pro gamers. I think the setup was also very easy to follow for my PS4 and I like the option to use it with my PC. I believe this is a good product and I would recommend trying it before deciding on your next gaming headset. I like the surround sound the A50 headset produce and the soft white indicators. The indicators are all easy to see and give me visual of everything important when I’m using the A50. I took 1 star away only because of the price and the padding not being leather.

Best Gaming headset I’ve used on the Xbox One X

I’ve used all sorts of headsets for the Xbox over the years and I thought I was sold on a different brand until I tried these A50s. I suffer from a high-end hearing loss so where most standard gaming headphones would sound great to most people, I end up missing a lot of nuances. These headphones get the job done! The ASTRO A50 Wireless Headphones are provide absolute immersion into your gaming experience. The bundle I have comes with a base station for charging and wireless transmission from your gaming system to your headphones. The headphones provide Dolby Headphone Surround Sound. They are engineered with spatial placement for a three-dimensional audio experience. They are fully wireless and have a 15+ hour battery life. The A50 will automatically shutoff when inactive and power on when it detects motion (i.e. if you pick them up and place them on your head). The microphone is a precision mic. Flexible and durable it offers clear, low noise communication and is optimized for gaming on the major gaming platforms (Xbox One, Playstation 4, PC and Mac). The mic’s boom arm operates the mute/unmute function. A simple flip upward mutes the mic and when you pull it down, it unmutes. In addition to the simple mic operation, you have the ability to adjust the ratio of game audio to voice chat. There is an Astro Command Center that is available for download for free that allows you to customize mic levels, EQ settings, and even share audio settings with other gamers. Getting started with the A50s wasn’t too difficult. In order to update the firmware you will need to download the Astro app — Astro Command Center. To connect to the software, you will need to plug your headphones in using a USB cable. You will need to make sure the base station is switched to “PC Mode” and then click the “ok” button on the prompt that states “A firmware update is required”. Once the update has finished you switch the base station back to “Xbox” and plug it back into the gaming system. With the Astro Command Center you also have the option to change settings for the devices. I connected them to my Xbox One X to start my first gaming experience with them. The first game I played with the A50s was Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. I was just blown away. The sound quality was wonderful and for someone who has normal hearing, these are probably such a game changer that it’s almost like cheating when playing against others. For me, I am hearing other players footsteps and gunfire from the direction it’s coming from. This is something I’m not used to being able to hear so it was like a wake-up call for me. The ASTRO A50’s are insanely good. So how about comfort? When I play I play for hours at a time, I’m not getting any headaches or sore ears. The ear cushions are super soft to the touch and they connect by magnets to the headset so they can be replaced super easily if they wear out or get damaged. These have been the best gaming headset I think I have ever owned. I don’t think I have ever been this happy with any other headphones…ever. I have some wonderful ANC headphones I love for music but even as great as they are, I have never been as happy to use them as I am the A50s. The A50s have honestly been a game changer for me. Are these worth buying? Absolutely. ASTRO has made incredible gaming headphones that are built well, feel great, and most importantly sound amazing!

Very good gaming headset with a great sound and a clear microphone. Great packaging and very easy to follow setup instructions. Buttons feel great and are easy to use. Pros: Great sound when set up properly Wireless with charging station Microphone side tone Dual console/pc connection for easy swap Ear cushions are very soft for long gaming sessions All of the pieces feel very high quality plastic Cons: Requires $40 hdmi to optical adapter/pass through to get optimal sound and chat mix functionality on PS5 The base connects to console/pc, so it only charges if the system is on or is using an “always on” usb connection Note: this is a personal con, but the headset does not fit perfectly on my above average size head. And as a result it seems like the hinge seems like it is getting additional strain which could lead to premature wear.

Awesome headset, lacks some competitive features

I just bought a pair of A50s and I'm very impressed. They sound great, especially in first person shooters where localizing a sound is very important. The microphone is receptive and the headphones are very sturdy. The best thing about this headset is that you don't need a chat puck or a 3.5mm connection of any kind from the controller to headset. I absolutely love love love that! Few headsets actually do that. The volume adjustment dial is pretty addicting to fidget with, it's very tactile. Having contact charging is awesome! No more plugging things in unless you have to. The removable earmuffs are a nice touch too: Very magnetic. The metal frame is robust. A few gripes: The headband isn't comfortable, it pulls your hair. The removable pad on the headband is difficult to remove. There is no obvious voice monitoring button to prevent you from shouting. Sadly it also has some lacking features that could be implemented: -The ability to update the headset via the Xbox One, rather than through USB connection to a PC. -A sound mixing app for iOS and Android so people can use Bluetooth. The Turtle Beach PX51 is a good example of the multimedia technology that mobile users strongly desire. -Include the mod kits with the purchase of an A50 series, so that customers feel like they got their money's worth. -a flexible microphone boom with a windsock Like Microsoft uses on their stereo headsets. Tl;Dr it's great but not quite exceptional. Going to do some more "research" :D

    Game Changing Headset!!!

The Astro A50 Wireless + Base Station is really a next level game-changing headset. Just the fact that its wireless is in and of itself great to have. It boasts a 16-hour battery life but has so much more. In the beginning, you have to update the firmware for both the base station and the headset to get the best use of this product. The product at the time of review was listed on Best Buy for $299.99 the same price from the manufacturer, so my review will be comparing it to products of the same price point as this unit. Wireless Headset is a bit heavy but really fits comfortably on your head so you barely notice the weight of it once it's properly fitted to your head. The headset usees cloth cushion so you don’t sweat regardless of how many hours you are using it. This is a great feature, I think more manufacturers are moving in this direction. The headset also has buttons for Power on/off, Volume control, EQ setting and Dolby on Source Audio. I can't tell how nice that is when you want to just reach up and change things on the fly instead of promoting this on your computer or gaming console. Very nice touch. This microphone is smooth flip down or up. The build quality of the headset is outstanding. Base Station comes with USB Charger, and also a short optical cable from source (PS4) to base station. But it doesn’t end there. It also has inputs for Optical in/out, Aux, Micro USB and a switch for PC to PS4. For the purpose of this test, I have tested on my PC. Astro Comand Center – Is the interface for the Equalizer Presets. It offers 5 presets; A50 Mod Kit, Astro, Media, Pro, and Studio. It also allows you to store and save your own presets along with advanced setting to give you even more flexibility to adjust to the setting that works for you. It also has Stream Port setting that you use for the microphone and at this time I have not tested it, but will soon. I tested the EQ and the Dolby sound on a computer watching Alita Battle Angel on VUDU which supports the Dolby driver and tested its clarity. The fight scene in the movie with Alita in the ally with Dr. Ido was amazing to listen to. The balance between high and low was great and it was tested on the preset for Pro and Studio. At the end of the day, I was not tired of listening to this amazing Headset. I am now using this as my main headset for both my computer and PS4 and for the money is well worth the investment to have this type of quality built headset with so much functionality and ease of use.

If you're looking for wireless gaming headphones that last, sound great, and have great features, Logitech has improved upon its previous iteration and come out with the A50's with base station. The package includes the headphones, base station, optical (fiber) cable, USB-to-microUSB cable and instructions. The headphones come with a 1-year parts warranty DISCLAIMER: I used this product with a PS4. PROS: ----------- * Complete comfort. * Replaceable ear cups with magnetic contacts are a great feature. There's an option to buy leatherette ear cups; however, this may keep in the heat that is created from long-duration gaming. You may want to stick with the ear cups in the box. * Immersive sound. The sound is as good or better than what I've heard on other gaming headphones. Playing Fortnite, you can hear sounds from every direction. * Quick ability to mute the mic - simply rotate the mic in the UP position. Quick and easy which gamers love. * Connection of headset to the base was simple, but you need to read the instructions to get through easily. * Easy charging using magnetic metal contacts. * Easy to see charging status on base * Auto-Standby power mode - if you put them down for a few minutes, they will power off automatically to save your battery. * The headphones won't "overcharge" if you leave them on the base. This smart-charging technology is a great way to extend battery life. CONS: ----------- * Though comfortable, they can get warm after a period of time. * No wall charger, and forced to charge connected to PS4 or PC. The PS4 has to be in standby mode in order to charge while you are not playing. If you want to shut down the PS4 or PC completely, you have no way to charge the headphones. The user would have to unplug the USB cable from the PS4/PC then plug into a wall charger for this to happen which might also be annoying. * The USB cable provided in the package is a bit short (3-ft) so the base can't be put further away from the PS4 itself unless you provide a longer cable (and longer optical cable). OTHER OBSERVATIONS: ----------------------------------- * You should read through all of the instructions before attempting to connect and use. There are many features that you just don't know how to use until you read. * For audio to work, you must use a USB cable and optical cable (provided). With just the optical cable, you can hear but mic won't work. The USB cable will allow mic functions and of course, charging capabilities. CONCLUSION: =================== Setup is easy if you read the instructions but a little cumbersome due to many steps. Once you get connected, the base/headphones work like a champ flawlessly. The battery lasts all day and charges overnight to full capacity for the next day's games. Headphone controls are easy to find and use. 3 things help define a set of gaming headphones - battery life (great), sound (great), and ease of use for controls (great). Logitech really nailed it on each of these points. If you can hit this price point, they are well worth the money. Great job Logitech!

I am really impressed with the Astro Gaming A50 wireless headset. And it's not just the way the box came, but the overall quality and performance, and the relative ease on setting it up. All these components have allowed an almost seamless set up and use of this headset. Pros: -Sturdy feel. Immediately when you see the box you realize that Astro went out of it's way to make sure that each unit comes in a safe packaging. They are nicely secured in there with no fear of being damaged. The unit themselves are nice and sturdy feel to it, but not too heavy when you ear them. Microphone is solidly secured on the Left side of the set. -Set up: Again. too easy. There is a switch on the charging dock for XBOX and PC. The USB cord and optical wire connect directly to your XBOX (or PC) for charging and use. After opening the box, I connected everything and took about an hour for the headset unit to be charged and ready to use. Again, too easy. -Sound quality: the sounds are crisp and clear, thanks to the Dolby Atmos. Playing games like Fortnite and Battlefront were amazing experiences for me. I didn't have to strain my ears to understand what was being said. Friends on the other side of the screen said that my voice was clearer then my old headset so that's a good thing! Wireless: Since everything in this world has become wireless, you come to realize how important it is to no be tangled with cords of all sort. It is so convenient, especially if you are trying to multi-task while games are loading and I can run into the kitchen or the restroom close-by without having to take them off and put them back on. Being about 30 feet away and a wall did not hamper sound quality or connection whatsoever. Cons: -sound button. Yes, there are some cons to this. On the right side of the headset is the sound button. It is on the lowest part of the right ear and for me, I felt it was somewhat awkward trying to either increase/decrease sound levels. Just a minor inconvenience for me, but not a deal breaker. Overall, I am well pleased with this headset. Thank you Astro for making gaming fun!

The new Astro A50 isn’t much different from the 3rd generation, but there are some changes. The audio is clear and refined, they work with Dolby Atmos, I haven’t had any of the disconnect issues I had with Gen 3 and the base station is slightly changed for a marginally better charging stand. Upon first use, I was concerned on how low the volume was, even with all the volume settings maxed out. You will find there is a mixer control on the right ear panel that changes volume level between voice and game that makes a difference. However, the real game changer for me was when I used ASTRO Command Center settings. Though the Command Center requires a PC to use it, I feel it is essential to get the best out of these headphones. Through the ASTRO Command Center you can select from the pre-installed equalizer presets, slightly tune them yourself or go into the advanced settings and really fine tune the sound. However, through advanced settings I found that you can really mess up the sound if you don’t know what you’re doing. The best option was when I went to Reddit r/AstroGaming and found the user made presets. Through the subreddit there were a good selection of other presets that put the sound where I was looking for. Once these presets are synced to the device, you can move it back over to the Xbox and enjoy the same sound. You can also use three different presets for your gaming preference which can easily be switched by the press of a button. The selected preset is noted by an audible beep and by a number on the base station. Some other settings in the Command Center include EQ settings, noise gate level and sidetone level for the microphone as well as level settings for the stream port of the base station. The large foam earpads are comfortable for long term use and avoid touching my huge ears. A separate mod kit is available for the synthetic leather and the previous generation is not compatible. The battery lasts about 15 hours for straight play time, but they also have an auto-power off when they are set down to help extend their life during any down time, which isn’t adjustable. There is also a micro-USB port that you can use to directly charge them if you must keep going. The other button on the headset cycles between straight audio and Dolby Audio, however, this is not the same as the Dolby Atmos audio that can be enabled on Xbox and PC. The Dolby button uses Pro-logic that simulates a surround sound where there is not sound. So, in game having this feature enabled can really mess things up because when you are listening for directional sound it might simulate it around you. The best option is to enable Dolby Atmos with the included code and leave the headset in the straight mode, which is noted by a star on the base station. Some minor annoyances I have is the fact that you really must connect this to a computer to make the most of it. Even changing the side tone of the mic could have been built in instead of the app. Also, if you want the latest version of the application, your best bet is to go through the Windows Store and not their own support site. Another thing is the volume knob is continuous, there is no indication of max or min as it just keeps spinning. The Voice/Game setting gives a tone when it reaches one extreme or the other, but not volume. I’m also a little upset that the 3rd generation mod kit won’t fit this generation. The only thing different is the slight variation in shape so they won’t work. Though slightly better, the same issue I had with the 3rd generation was the base station charging, it is still a pain to get right every time. The headphones feel like they lock in from the magnets, but then the base station starts flashing like it is in panic mode. It requires a little shake of the headset to try and get the exact contact so that they properly charge. After a few tries the lights will blink individually showing it’s level and that it is charging. I also feel they should offer more for their asking price. The fact it is cloth earpads and they up charge even more for the leather like material when other cheaper sets come with them by default. There are other wireless headsets that also offer different connectivity, such as Bluetooth and have longer battery life. Even cheap headsets offer an easier switch between Xbox and PC than this one does. Besides the changes mentioned above, I really don’t see a true generation change here. It is more like Generation 3.5 which adds Dolby Atmos support.

Easily the best gaming headphones I've used Compared to turtle beach and other brands, I'm very impressed with the overall quality of the Astro's. The wireless range is very good, you can easily walk to another room without losing sound. The sound quality is fantastic, great for all activities from intense gaming, to listening to music on the Xbox Spotify app, or watching a movie. Battery life is great, l've had the headphones for about 2 weeks and with about 1-3 hours of use per day I still haven't had to recharge. The recharge stand is very cool and displays the battery level while playing While the price point for these is higher than other options, they do feel like premium gaming headphones. Great padding for long play sessions, and very lightweight. The setup process takes just plugging the recharge base into the Xbox and you're ready to go. Couldn't recommend these enough to someone looking for premium gaming headphones

---SETUP--- The setup of the Astro A50s was quick and simple. These are replacing a competitors headset which also had a base. The same cables from the other headset worked for this one, but I still switched to the ones included in with the Astros. Set up took about 2 minutes. ---FEATURES--- Pros: - Astro Audio V2 - Dolby Audio - A free Dolby Atmos code for 2 year subscription - Voice vs. Game audio balance from headset - 15+ hours of battery life - A base with input and output optical cables - Chargeable headset via base or micro-USB cable - Magnetic, replaceable ear cushions and headband - Adjustable head-to-ears sliders - Adjustable mic - Mic monitoring - Xbox and PC compatible - Over-the-ear muff cushions Cons: - Does not have an auxiliary port for use with other devices outside of base. ---PERFORMANCE--- The performance of these Astro 50s was phenomenal. In games like Apex Legends and Call of Duty, I could more clearly hear footsteps or gunfire from the direction they were coming from. For movies, activate the included Dolby Atmos Code and look for a movie on Netflix that uses Dolby Atmos. You will be amazed at what you’ve been missing out on in terms of sound. However, even shows that don’t have Dolby Atmos, the sound on the headset is amazing. ---EXPECTATIONS--- The product exceeds my expectations. My previous headset was beginning to garble. This headset makes all sounds nice, crisp, and clear. My teammates hear me clearly and the range is impressive, which is good to keep on communicating during snack refill breaks. An underrated feature is that the base has an input and output for optical cables. What this allows you to do is to connect the base to the Xbox but still connect a separate device that uses optical cables. What I was able to do was to connect the optical out with my own optical cable and plug that in to the TV. This allows me to listen to anything else that I have connected to the TV, including my PS4, my Nintendo Switch (when docked), and my PC without having to switch any cables. Of course, you can’t use the microphone with that hook-up, but my other consoles are used mainly for story-driven, single-player campaigns, so I don’t need the mic in those instances. ---VALUE--- The price for the Astro 50s in terms of value are well worth the investment. With replaceable ear and headband cushions, you wouldn’t need to buy a new pair again, just replace those parts that have shown wear and tear over the years. ---APPROVAL--- I highly recommend this product for gamers whose main console is the Xbox (or PC) but also own other consoles that you want to listen to things on. Now, I can play my video games or watch my Ultra HDR 4k movies with theatre-like sounds without waking up my neighbors or my wife.

I’m giving them 4 star only because there are times when the headset looses connection to the wireless base. This is really annoying. Also, there was an issue where they wouldn’t charge, found a video on how to reset the wireless base and headset and it works again. That being said, amazing sound! Awesome app that’s lets you control all your sound settings, in addition to being the most comfortable headset I’ve owned with hours of enjoyable gameplay which is also highlighting the amazing battery life! If they could fix the annoying problems they would be worth every penny.
