Good Headset, Needs Addons to make it great

This headset is… excellent for what it offers. But, Astro really needs to improve on the design for the 6th generation when that comes out. Let’s start with the positives. The sound is excellent and easily tunable to whatever you want. The Microphone is crisp and clear for it being a wireless mic. The earcups are good stock, if a little warm. Let’s go to the bad but fixable. The Headband. Hooo boy the headband on the Astro A50 Gen 4 is… deplorable. The design is just straight up flawed. The middle piece that has the only segment of padding on the headset will very easily pop out of its friction fit mounting and make you very uncomfortable. However, there’s a person called Capra Audio that makes 3D Printed headstraps out of TPU plastic for a wide variety of Headphones. This absolutely transforms the headset from uncomfortable to insanely comfortable. And completely fixes the issue with the headband. Then the earcups. The stock ones are fine, but my highest recommendation would be to buy a pair of Wicked Cushions for this headset. That levels up the comfort even further and makes this easily an “all day” fit. Finally, the firmware issues. If you take the headset off its docking station and unplug the dock for a long time (around a month) the Headset will just… lose its firmware. And then you have to do a fairly long process with a desktop PC to reload the firmware onto the headset again. But, as long as you keep everything plugged in, and the headset charged, everything is good. I wish there was a “I kinda recommend” option, but I’ll have to give this an “I don’t recommend”.

upgraded from gen 3, and gen 2 before that (geek squad protection plan allows me to get it for no extra charge) this one is even more comfortable than both its previous models. love the all black sleekness. the base is smaller and way easier to charge. sounds barely noticeable and mic is better. sadly the old gen mod kit’s do not pair with this one. poor choice by astro but other than that no complaints. expensive but worth it if you have the money to make an investment that’ll last years and keep trading in for the next gen when it comes out.

Gold standard of gaming headsets but FLAWED

In short; these sound incredible and you CAN in fact update the firmware on the Xbox via the Astro Command center app. There you can also use the EQ to adjust the sound profiles. The battery lasts about 20 hours also which is good segway to the cons. The base station is barely an improvement over the gen 3 A50’s. The contacts are frustratingly difficult to have set once the headset is placed. The only other con i have is that just like gen 3 A50s, this one also tends to just randomly disconnect, not while in use, but when you’re done gaming with your gaming sesh for the time being, if you were to go back on a few hours later the same day or the next day, it’ll randomly just not be synced up properly where i constantly have to either reset the headset or switch the mode from Xbox to PC for a few moments and then switching it back to Xbox will it reconnect and sync properly.

I have had this headset for almost a year. Use daily with my pc and it’s by far one of the best headphones I’ve purchased and owned. Recommend if you play games like Call of Duty as it can let you hear a lot more. They are comfortable and I love the base where you can set down and charge your headphones.

great headset, for the money its expensive but it hace great audio and its comfortable for long gaming sessions. 1 full battery have lasted me a full day of gaming 10/13h depends how much volume and setting you are using. Thats why I put around 10/13h. I give it a 4/5 because chat and game volume could had been better. You cant tell how much volume you have to each which sometimes makes you press it too much and mute one or the other. Once you get over that issues and get used to it. The headset is awesome.

The sound these are able to produce is just nuts! The bass is almost overwhelming. When there is an explosion be prepared to have your skull rattled. I play with them much quieter that I normally for that reason. You can change all of this from the Astro command center app on your PC, I just haven’t done that yet. I have nothing bad to say about these. They sound amazing, they are comfortable, they look great, and the wireless connection has been flawless. If you have the money, just do it!

Its alot of money to spend just for the top headband to constantly pop off. I literally have it tied down with a hair tie. Also, the headset struggles to connect to the baseplate when you turn it on. Sometimes it works, other times you gotta unplug the base deck from the Xbox. Recently ive had to reset the headset to even turn it on. Thats alot of basic issues for a $300 headset. Other than that, actual performance with respect to audio / microphone etc. Phenomenal. But come on...

Awesome headset. Original earpads are insanely comfortable. Fairly food at keeping unwanted sounds out. Sturdy all around and the headset itself looks amazing. The length mechanism is awesome, doesn't move unless you move it yourself. Only complaint I have is that I spent 15 min trying to figure out how to connect it to my PC since the directions booklet was telling me to download the wrong software (for the astro controller) figured it out by doing my own research.

Very comfortable, I can wear them for hours with no discomfort. Sound is great. Fully charged they last for hours. My only issue is a weird ticking noise sometimes. You have to unplug the base and plug it back in to get rid of the noise.

AMAZING HEADSET. It's a bit pricy but definitely worth it if you are into gaming. The only thing I do not like and the reason it doesn't get a 5 star rating is because you have to buy a separate HDMI adapter that does not coming with the headphones in order for the headset to work. When purchasing there should either be a sign or have the device next to it so people know there is a extra part that needs to be bought. Unlike what happened to me, I was trying to set up the headset at home and when looking at the instruction I see there is the adapter that I thought was missing from the packaging, but in fact when I did some research and looking at YouTube videos it is definitely another part you have to buy. Besides that this is a really good headset especially if you are into streaming.

This is my second astro headset. My first was the a40 with mixamp pro which was amazing and still works, i just wanted to upgrade. This one works awsome as well. Battery life is good and they are comfortable. I only wish it had a removable battery so when the battery is a few years old it can swapped out instead of the whole headset. I bought the steelseries arcis pro with gamedac a week before this set and i did not like the sound more than these. I hear some prefer steelseries though so to each their own.

The absolute best headset I have ever used. They are very comfortable even after many hours of gaming. The big ear cups and cushion on the band makes it very easy to game for a long time. The battery life is very good as well. The sound is loud and clear. You can also customize the sound the way you want it in the Astro command center. Overall, I’d give this headset a 10 out of 10. Highly recommended.

Works really well for PC. Used them on the xbox and for some reason my party could not hear me sometimes and would have to reset the headsets. Also the top foam piece keeps falling off and the plastic rests on your head eventually hurting. I think its a little to expensive for it to fall apart like that. My brother has the same ones and he said he just uses a zip tie to hold them. I guess I will be doing the same. Last thing is the dolby option for sound is only decent for music not good for gaming.

The headset itself is amazing, very comfortable and the sound quality is the best I’ve heard. I can’t say enough good things about the headset. The Astro command center app, which helps you customize your audio settings as well as updates the headset and base, is horrible. Just getting to an update is a struggle, basically have to unplug and plug the base into different usb ports until the app decides to connect to the headset/base. Already had one issue that needed an update to fix and something that should’ve taken 5-10 mins literally took hours to get worked out. In my opinion, still worth it because the audio I’m getting has improved gameplay, can hear foot steps and audio cues I’ve never heard before.

If you have ever used astro these are a great option. Sound quality is great. Battery life is more than enough. Range feels further than described. Only downside I have is that it it harder to mute than an inline mute button but not sure how to fix that without a complete redesign.
