Super Fine Image
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are buying a Asus Desktop this monitor is a must I can attest to the quality image and performance this monitor can muster and other reviews I have read about this product have been all wrong. I have played some of the most demanding video games at high frame rates with this monitor not missing a beat. The image quality and performance are way above average and the colors are just amazing to look at. Every manufacture claim a lifelike image but very few can come thru.. this one can this is a top notch monitor and I will be buying another one very soon. Complaints boil down to a hdmi to dvi cable that is far too short and internal speakers that are not worthy of this fine monitor they are a mere gimmick and should have never been added to begin with "But!" they are always there if you need backups. If you buy an Asus computer and skip on this monitor you have done yourself a major injustice and will never see what other monitors strive to be this monitor gets 9/10 points .. 1 point subtracted for short cable and substandard speakers.

Poor contrast and color

Nice screen. bad buttons
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have had 2 of these, both stopped working less than a year. Buttons stop responding and grid freezes on screen.I was able to exchange for a different model for one. The other was out of warrenty...spent over a month, EXTREMELY ineffective ASUS customer service, and very stressful...beware...or get multiple warrenties.

Very Nice For Video
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Asus MX279 is a nice monitor, but it's all about the 27" size -- otherwise it's an OK IPS panel. The advantages of an IPS vs. TN display is a greater viewing angle, plus it can display a larger range range of colors, particularly as you get close to pure black. The disadvantages are a slower speed, and a tendency to have problems with backlight bleed, where the backlight can shine around rather than just through the LCD panel -- it shows up as a glow from one or more edges when displaying a dark screen. The monitor I received does have a some backlight bleed from the lower left, but it's not excessive, not enough to worry about, & I haven't read of it being a common problem in site reviews. To make up for the lower speed -- how fast it can display the next screen for example gaming -- an IPS panel's electronics include overdrive, which can cause ghosting or motion blurring. Fortunately the MX279 lets you adjust the amount -- most people I think knock the Trace Free setting down to 40 or less from the default of 60, & I've had good success with it at 40. The actual display characteristics might be slightly closer to HDTVs than the average PC monitor, with white point around 7700 & a gamma curve of 2.4 -- that's something shared with some higher end Asus monitors. That's not a problem unless you need a very high degree of color accuracy. At default & calibrated settings I measured 98% sRGB coverage, which is good. I had trouble calibrating the display using a Spyder5PRO, with both the Datacolor software & dispcalGUI/Argyll [open source calibration software] -- I've read of similar difficulties with some other Asus models -- but what likely matters to most people is that turning the calibrated profile on/off there really isn't too much difference, meaning accuracy out of the box is reasonable. I got the best calibration using the Standard mode, setting Green = 96, Blue = 90, Brightness = 69, & Contrast = 65, though mileage will vary as calibration is different for each individual monitor -- that's just what worked best with this one. Moving on to the rest of the monitor, I'm one of what seems to be very few people who actually like the touch sensitive controls, though I am slightly apprehensive since that was the only thing that failed on another Asus monitor we had for several years. I've found it easiest to rest my right hand on the desk, palm facing left, & raise my index finger to lightly touch the switches. My desk, & this monitor are against the wall, so the monitor's backside isn't a concern -- if it was exposed I'm not sure how happy I'd be with the very high gloss finish, which has to be a bit more hassle to clean, & would need to be cleaned more often. Researching the MX279 before I bought it, several site reviews were critical of the display resolution at only 1080p. Any overall advantages of a 27" 1440 [or 4k] monitor might not be worth the current price premium. You can size text & windows however you want/need, so the real difference moving to a higher resolution is pixel density -- you just have to decide if it's worth the price. One thing that was important to me was local availability -- I went down the street to the local Best Buy & bought it, knowing that if it didn't work, or had a mess of dead pixels [it had none], I simply had to drive 1/2 mile & exchange or return it. I had just previously bought a monitor from Dell, & to say returning it was a nightmare would be like saying winter in Alaska is chilly. And weeks later I'm still waiting for the credit. I know that really doesn't have anything to do with the Asus monitor itself, but if you're reading this, thinking about buying this monitor from Best Buy, please consider the hoops you might have to jump through to return a monitor to some place online.

Very Nice Monitor
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought one of these monitors for my son for his birthday. Did a lot of research online and then ventured out to numerous stores to be sure that i wouldn't have any regrets and no returns. This monitor blew me and my son away. Like most people today, I use a computer daily. I have a really nice dual monitor setup at work and get to play with the latest PC hardware. This purchase just cost me double....because this monitor is so nice I have to purchase two more for me! One nice touch is that the monitor comes with numerous types of video cables. I was excited to find that it had a DVI to HDMI converter cable included. This is my first experience with an IPS monitor, and in the case of this Asus, it makes a huge difference. I am a loyal Samsung customer, but Asus wins this time!

Gorgeous display
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great price for an absolutely great display! I'm using this with a brand new Mac Mini, doing lots of photo editing work on it, and it is perfect. It's large enough to have multiple windows open at the same time and still have plenty of room. The colors are spot on, and the contrast is perfect. Great little speakers too!

for the price? A definite "Yes"
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolutely sharp and non-glaring images from this monitor. Eveything looks great and crisp that I even preffered to re-watch Interstellar on it rather than on my 55" Samsung TV. Out of the box, the calibrations on this monitor is very very nice. I absolutely felt no need to tweak the presets on this monitor. Speaking of adjusting settings, the buttons are very sensitive. they almost feel like they are touch sensitive rather than buttons and the slightest touch might lead you to accidentally enable them. Changing settings using the monitor controls are difficult. Just changing the volume on this things takes more presses than I care to take so I leave it at a comfortable volume. The sound quality from the monitor gives away a clear and decent volume for casual use. I needed speakers for my previous monitor and now, with this, I can keep them off to save desk space. But the sound is not ground shaking or anything loud enough to fill the room with music even when the volume is at its peak highest. With 70-80% volume, it is just great enough to enjoy while sitting infront of while listening.

Vibrant
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the best display I have ever seen in my 15+ years of PC/console gaming. I've owned Dell, Viewsonic, Samsung, ASUS plus some pretty decent Sony CRT's in my earlier gaming days. My son's 8yr old Samsung LCD finally quit, so I decided to upgrade my rig and hand him my ASUS VE278 which I was totally happy with. I did my research and initially got the Benq XL2720Z but after a weekend of tweaking the colors, I tossed in the towel. While it's a good monitor, the colors were just not worth the price tag. So I did more research and found one of the best selling monitors at Best Buy and Amazon. Don't let the 5ms response time keep you away from purchasing this. Displaylag.com rates this above other 1ms monitors including the Benq. Nowadays, I game alot on the PS4 but still play BF4 on the PC. If you're a console gamer then this resolution and 60hz is all you need. I'm perfectly happy with playing BF4 on the PC with these specs. The colors pop out at me which pleases me more than getting above 60fps which my graphics card can easily do. My eyes cant tell the difference between 60 and 100fps but can tell properly represented colors which is why I'll stick with ASUS any day.

Amazing monitor for all uses!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I liked this product so much I had to write a review on it. I'm one to do tons of research before coming to a conclusion on the exact product I want to purchase. For the $250-$350 price range I think this is absolutely the best monitor! For one, the quality is second to none. It's nice and sturdy and looks very aesthetically pleasing. Many people will try and complain about the resolution and argue it should be higher, but try and find a monitor this nice for the price with higher resolution. You won't. I think the best thing about this monitor is how well the colors look. The whites and blacks look especially amazing and the text is nice and sharp. If you're into graphic design, photo and video editing like I am, you will not be disappointed with this monitor. If you're into gaming, the 5ms response time isn't bad ether. I personally am a huge fan of the matte screen too, I just think it looks cleaner and reduces glare much better than a glossy screen. If I had any complaints at all about this monitor, it would be the fact that there is no DVI input. Although this wasn't a problem for me since I was connecting my MacBook Air via thunderbolt/ hdmi cable, others may prefer to use DVI. But Asus did include a DVI to HDMI cable in the box, which is pretty thoughtful if you ask me. As far as the audio goes, that isn't bad either, but after all it is a monitor so don't expect anything too crazy. I have Klipsch speakers, so the ones built in don't matter to me. Overall I give this monitor 5 stars! I am very satisfied with my purchase and will continue to buy Asus products in the future! Hope this helps anyone who is indecisive on what monitor to buy like I was.

Great monitor
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this monitor online and received it quickly. Love the sleek design. Not completely edge-less but it looks very nice. The sound is good to average but I didn't buy it for the speakers. After a couple of days, I noticed a white/light blue pixel on a completely blue screen. Thought that I had a dead pixel and was going to have to return it. I found a couple of recommendations on the web. They said to first try to press lightly on the screen to see if it would "wake up". Well that didn't work. The other recommendation was a pixel exerciser program that continuously flashes different colors on the screen. I found a program and ran it for 2 hours. To my surprise, it totally worked!! No more stuck pixel.

Went from a 5K "Retina" iMac to this!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This beautiful matte finish IPS "practically" borderless monitor blows the glossy 27" 5K "Retina" iMac out of the water! I seriously am stunned every time I use it! My grandma had just gotten a 5K "Retina" iMac and totally kept messing setting up and key chain issues. So, I'm just like, "Grandma! All you use is Chrome! So, let's get this Asus Chrome Box and this supposedly amazing Asus display which is also 27 inches!" And here I am writing this review, where my grandma couldn't be happier! iMac has been returned and this display, I cannot recommend enough! The matte finish! UGH! SO GOOD!! SO AMAZE!!! Just get it! Your eyes will thank you! Everything looks so clear! I've got a Dell Precision M 6700 workstation with a super nice matte screen! There truly is something to say about a matte finish display! The Bang & Olafson speakers are perfectly good as well! The package included a VGA, DVI to HDMI, and Auxiliary cables. You'll probably need an HDMI to HDMI cable if you don't have a VGA port, like in my Asus Chrome Box situation that only had the HDMI out port! Seriously! You could not go wrong with this beaut!!! Believe It! I'm Gonna Be King of the Pirates! Slam-a-Cow!

Beautiful and Excellent Monitor
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Beautifully designed monitor with excellent image quality. It lacks DVI-D input, but the MX279H comes with a HDMI-DVI-D adaptor cable. Monitor speakers don’t produce a lot of bass. You’ll probably want a set of dedicated speakers if you plan on listening to a lot of music, but they’re adequate if you’re not too concerned with sound quality. I feel no buyer's remorse on this one, and would certainly recommend it.
