Good Gaming PC and Average for Multimedia Work
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Asus ROG Gaming Desktop is a monster. It's packed with a Intel Core I5, 16GB of RAM, GTX1660Ti and a 512GB solid state drive. And don't think, "oh, that's just an i5". This is a high performance i5 processor that blows the shorts off some previous generation i7s and competitive to some early core i9s. In other words, nothing to sneeze at and honestly, not going to be a bottleneck for most gamers. Out of the box, it is clear you're looking at a gaming PC. Tall tower with lots of space inside. Multi colored LEDs providing a nice glow from the clear window to the internals and a subtle accent along the front face of the tower. This is preloaded with Windows 11 which didn't take too long to go through the initial setup and get started. The machine felt snappy through this process, sometimes a bit of fan noise but not too bad. I had some inevitable Windows Updates to perform and used this opportunity to watch some videos. I have two monitors hooked up to the GTX1660Ti - one on HDMI and one on DisplayPort. This drove the monitors at 4K with no issue. Video playback was pretty much stutter free. I think the only time I noticed an issue was a point where downloading a update package coincided with needing to buffer a good amount of 2K video from my streaming site. One thing you'd notice as you're getting things setup and configured is that while there are a boatload of USB type A and open slots on the motherboard for further expansion, there's no USB-C. While one can certainly get USB type A to USB C adapters (and I already have some), it's a bit disappointing that I can't get full USB C speeds and charging on a gaming desktop. So, while this is certainly specced for gaming, it's a bit weak as a general multi-media PC which I kinda would expect this to pull double duty. With Windows updated, it was time to install a few titles. Of course Elden Ring, Half Life Alyx, and a throwback favorite of mine which has been making a comeback among my friends, Starcraft 2. What a difference a few numbers make. My previous desktop is currently running a GTX 1650. Doesn't seem like it would be that different from a GTX 1660Ti right? And yet graphics performance is easily 50% better than the 1650. With the same medium settings, frame rates increase by at least 20fps from the 1650 to 1660. And I can turn up the detail/complexity while still getting an acceptable frame rate. What this means is that this machine effectively breathes new life into my existing games simply because I can play them in a more realistic or immersive environment. It's not something one notices in Starcraft, but Elden Ring, for sure. And even a bit in Alyx. So, graphics performance is definitely up with this PC though I noticed it comes at a price, noticeably more fan noise. It's not there all the time, but when games are being pushed, the 1660's fan spin up and louder than my 1650 does when pushed. I'm not sure if this card just runs hotter or perhaps is factory tuned for more performance. Unfortunately, the case, while pretty, doesn't do much to muffle the sound. It's perhaps not as obnoxious as high speed laptop fans on your desk, but the low rumble from the floor isn't something you'd overlook either. Other things however were about par - audio was the same as my existing desktop. Decent sound going to the speakers, better if I use HDMI, and Bluetooth works great. Range was about average with the Asus as well. It comes with Wifi6 and if you already have a Wifi6 device, performance is on par - not better, but also not worse. RAM tended to be at 50% or below utilization with the exception of the times I used this for work, then my workloads started to tax it, taking us to 80-90% utilization. This is where having free RAM slots so that I could bump this up to 32GB without effectively needing to throw away sticks that came with the PC would be nice. The SSD was plenty fast - no complaints there and 512GB is about my current sweet spot for PCs. I have 4TB of external storage for everything else. While one could easily exceed 512GB depending on the number of titles installed, I tend to like to keep things streamlined. In all, this is a solid performing machine. The CPU will be a powerhouse for years to come. If the longevity of my 1650 is any indicator, the 1660ti will also be a pretty decent card for at least 4 more years and can be easily upgraded in the future. The starting RAM configuration is a bit annoying - perhaps good if this is just a gaming machine but if you do graphics intensive work, you're going to pretty much replace all the modules that came with the PC on your path to 32GB+. The lack of USB-C is noticeable and will again be a limiter for multimedia professionals. While this is a five star gaming PC if we limit use to just that narrow case, the fact is, these days my gaming PC must also be able to carry out work and its a bit disappointing to have it fall short in that regard.

Excellent mid range prebuilt
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm really enjoying my new Asus gaming desktop. I've used their laptops in the past but this is my first desktop. I am a gamer, so performance matters to me. I have several high end custom gaming systems, but I needed a mid range unit for my teen to get started with. Performance wise, I think you'll be pretty happy if you are looking for a solid unit at this price point. The 11th gen i5 coupled with the 1660TI video card is really snappy. I get great frame rates in all of the games that I play. I'm running it on a single 27" 4K monitor at this time. The video card has 2 HDMI and 2 DP connections so you should be able to hook up just about anything you want. Admittedly, the games I play are older and less graphic intensive than some of the latest and greatest games, but this unit should be able to handle just about anything at mid range settings. Even the top end games should run well in low-mid settings. It is a very solid unit that should get you up and gaming no matter what you play. Don't pick up this unit thinking you are going to play everything on ultra settings. It's not going to happen, and it's not what this unit is designed to do. You'd need to spend at least twice this much for that level of performance. I'm using this desktop over WiFi. It's very stable and fast. I pull about 500mbs up and down from the router across my house. It's a high end router, but still...that's pretty good IMO. Add that to my symmetrical 1gb fiber and I'm in great shape. Obviously it would be even faster if I wired it up, but that's fast enough to meet my needs without running wires. Audio wise, I'm using a fairly high end wireless headset. It sounds amazing with 7.1 simulated surround and haptic feedback. I really can't speak to how it will sound through typical speakers since I don't use them. I like the aesthetics of the case. It's certainly not cutting edge in design, but it's clean and makes you feel like you have a gaming rig. It definitely leaves you wanting more, but I think that's OK...it's priced right for what you are getting. There is no liquid cooling or super fancy cabling, but those are things you will worry about down the road when you decide to build your own custom rig. It does come with both an opaque and translucent side cover so you can choose whether or not to see the gut of the system. It does have interior LED lighting. It's adequate, but not great. The color accuracy is a bit suspect in the teal/blue/purple end of the spectrum. Again, you are getting what you pay for here. There are plenty of presets to enjoy and it's a great entry model to interior LED lighting, but there is much better equipment out there if you want to pay for it. There is one little white light where the power cable connects to the video card that never shuts off...even when the tower is powered off. I find that annoying. It leaves a dim light in an otherwise dark room when trying to sleep. It's not a deal breaker, but I don't love it. There are a couple of USB A ports on the top front of the case, which is nice for dropping in a jump drive without have to fumble around on the back of the unit. I believe there are 6 USB A ports in total. It only has a single exhaust fan for cooling. While that is sufficient to keep the unit cool, it has to work a little harder than units with multiple fans. Harder = louder. You can definitely hear the fans working when you stress the system. Since I keep my case up on top of the desk to show it off, that extra noise is a little off putting. Again, not a deal breaker, but know what you are getting. The keyboard and mouse that come with it are just standard stuff. If you are into the feel and sound of keyboards and mice at all, you'll want to pitch what comes with it and get yourself some better stuff. Don't get me wrong, they will work just fine, but if you are snob like me, you'll want some better stuff with nice mechanical switches, interesting keycaps, and nice LED capabilities. Overall, I think is an excellent unit. If you are looking for a mid range gaming prebuilt to get started, this should do nicely. It looks pretty good, performs very well for it's price point, won't cost you multiple thousands of dollars. You can add to it as you grow, or just stick with this unit while you save up for a custom build down the road.

Good Entry Level Gaming Device
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Asus Overall, this is a very well priced, entry level gaming tower. It has decent power and upgradability. Good components and the strong name of ROG sells this tower for itself at the price. Listed are some thoughts. Pros • Sleek look • Black cables and great cable management for a pre built. • Super fast nvme. 15 second boot after initial load and updates • Fast enough CPU and GPU to play most modern games at high settings 60 fps+ • Neat extra side panel (Plexiglas) to show off the RGB led strips inside case • It’s an ROG, so you know the quality is there • 16bg of 3200 mhz ram. Don’t know CAS latency or timings, but it seems ample. Never struggled with the bit of gaming I’ve done thus far. And it’s in 1 stick with 3 empty slots available…upgradable • 11th gen i5 is strong and capable • 1660ti. A bit higher than entry level to 1080 60 fps+ gaming. Does the job. o PUBG on lowest preset got around 180 fps average o PUBG on ultra preset got around 110 fps average o Rise of the Tomb Raider on lowest preset got around 150 fps average o Rise of the Tomb Raider on highest preset got around 90 FPS average • Windows 11 standard. Cons • Only 500gb NVME. Fills fast. • Rear exhaust fan is super loud under load. Could just be this specific build, but seems cheap and could be of higher quality for ROG • Entire rear of the tower and IO is cheap looking. I know, how often do you care about what the back of your computer looks like, but it just looked like they tried to save money here. I know no one really cares about the included mouse and keyboard. But they are included so I’ll talk about them. The peripherals aren’t bad for a pre built. Keyboard seems like an upscale office kb or super cheap gaming keyboard. No mechanical but confident key press. The mouse is super light and flimsy …but will work until a better one was purchased.

Posted .Dear VinnyMack,
We do understand your concern about the fan noise.
It is normal just like any other brand with the same hardware configuration, for the fan to spin at full-throttle and generates noise louder than normal while the PC is under heavy system resource utilization like during the initial WINDOWS setup and WINDOWS Update installation. When system resource utilization is high, this will generate more heat than normal and tends to trigger the fan to spin at full-throttle and noise will be louder than normal. It does decreases or normalizes once utilization goes down.

Excellent Entry to Budget Gaming PC Market
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been shopping for a new gaming desktop tower for quite some time now. With the chip shortage it has driven prices up across the board, but more importantly it has made it very hard to find gaming machines, or even graphics cards to build your own. The G10CE stepped in and filled that void for me, and it did it quite well! I have been playing Fallout76 and Fornite and the performance is very impressive, especially at this price point. I have been playing in 1080p, and I have had solid frame rates, and the graphics are beautiful! There is plenty of memory for me to be gaming and also have Discord and even several tabs of a web browser open with no issue! The storage is super fast! I do wish it was larger than 512GB, but there is room to expand this system with additional drives so really it's just a minor trade-off to get such an amazing value! I have several games installed and still have some leftover space on the drive. Overall if you are looking for a decent gaming tower and you are on a budget this Asus machine will do the trick!

Excellent sale value.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good solid performer. CPU and GPU are well matched. System runs warmer than I would like. CPU in the high 70's and low 80's. It's in spec but I like them to run cooler. Probably needs a better CPU cooler if you want to run it with the side panel on. I run mine open and the system is significantly cooler (CPU approx. 65c). Poor airflow would be my guess. The memory is a single stick of 16gb. The motherboard is set up for dual channel ram. 2 sticks of 8gb ram would deliver better performance. I just bought another single stick of 16gb for $30. I paid $700 on sale and that's a really good deal. This system benchmarks better than some $1400 rigs.

Quality Gaming System for the Beginner/Novice
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Trying to figure out online gaming and what to get can be a bit difficult, especially for a beginner. Computers can be designed or optimized for different tasks. With the ASUS G10CE-I51660TDC Gaming Desktop, you have a good solid gaming computer designed for a beginner or novice gamer. Most of the equipment put into this machine is quality low- to mid-level hardware which will get you started and competitive in whatever game you choose. Whether you want to gear up in Rocket League, challenge your friends in a FortNite Battle Royale, or play your favorite fantasy game, you will be able to jump right in and learn the basic game mechanics. The Intel Core i5-11400F CPU is billed as a budget CPU. It has a base clock speed of 2.6 GHz with a max turbo boost speed of 4.4 GHz. It is not top of the line as far as gaming CPUs go, but it performed well with the applications I tried. The system also includes the Nvidia GeForce gtx 1660ti video card. Again, this balances performance versus budget. The result is a decent video card to get you going. It has outputs for multiple HDMI monitors and supports the display port. It is plenty fast to supply an enjoyable experience. The gaming system includes a 512GB SSD. With the Windows 11 Home software included, this could be undersized if you look to download a lot of games. However, again it is plenty good and fast to get you moving. If you start to do a lot of gaming and become obsessed, I can see the need to add to the storage early on, especially if you are doing video capture of your gaming highlights. Fortunately, the system has a 600W power supply which has plenty of room for adding on. Again, this system is designed on the novice side, not the seasoned gamer. The keyboard and mouse that are included are low end. The keyboard and mouse work fine, but the feel may not be the best for gamers. A good mechanical keyboard may be preferred but would add to the cost of a budget system. You will need some extras to get moving with this system. Most notably, you will need a monitor. This seems obvious, but nevertheless, you will need it. Also missing is speakers. Most gamers may opt for a headset, but you will need to find one. In the end, the ASUS Gaming desktop does the job. It is stylish with fancy LED lighting and the option to have a clear side panel to make it look extra cool. The experience playing games on it is very good. I can see some things though that you will want to upgrade on as soon as you are comfortable with the game play. I highly recommend this system for the beginner or novice gamer. This system is ready to go and will give you plenty of fun.

Excellent Mid-Level Gaming Machine
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was very impressed with this mid-end gaming machine. Partly due to the lower price point which many folks do need, notwithstanding some compromising of specifications. There is ample capability for those wishing to upgrade memory, storage and even CPU and GPU. However I think ASUS hit the mark with those of us gamers who are quite willing to save the bucks for a unit that nonetheless performs very well on many types of games; and we can upgrade over time if we need to. I recommend replacing the side panel with the included clear plexiglass panel. If you are new to these upgrades note there are 8 screws included. Use the 4 which go on first to provide a bushing and thread socket for the other 4 screws. Easy enough. The acrylic panel stands away from the desktop since it does not have holes for ventilation like the base side panel. I calculate the acrylic panel actually provides more airflow than the perforated side panel. There is a great light show in many colors that is defaulted inside the cabinet; but you can change the light show if you wish. I loved it. The fan cooling is sufficient for the Intel i5 processor. If you wish to install faster processors with more threads, then I would suggest upgrading the fan as well. There are two fans, one for the processor and another comes on as needed to expel heated air quickly through the back of the tower. An HDMI cable and a Display Port cable are both included. I tried both and they work almost identical in this configuration. I noted that I had to use the ports on the graphics card, the ones at the top of the back panel were inactive – not a problem. The keyboard and mouse are very basic, however I like this design point of spending less on the included keyboard/mouse to keep the price lower since I like many folks will already have lighted gaming mechanical keyboards and gaming mice. ASUS I think again hit the right marketing tradeoff. I tried a sample of various games including Forza Motorsports, War Thunder from my Gaijin account, and a bunch of fun games like flight simulators. Everything worked well and the graphics and speed were great. Sound was super great through my USB attached ‘shoulder speakers’ loved the sounds. The important specs are 11th geni5-11400F, Nvidia GeFGorce GTX 1660Ti and 16 GB memory. The processor is a six core and twelve thread design – nice and power enough for mid-level gaming. My plan is to double the memory and have fun with more high powered games. There is a 512 GB SSD. I am very pleased with this ASUS Gaming Computer and would highly recommend it for those operating in this price point who want a solid performer.

Good beginner PC
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start by saying that I am a huge fan of ASUS and love the quality of their products. Now, this gaming desktop is a good starter pc for the new gamer. It has some good specifications but unfortunately does not handle newer, more demanding games very well. While it will play them, it does not allow much detail for graphics and frames per second. The video card, or GPU, is a good card with 6GB of dedicated memory, which for most games will work well at medium graphics settings. I found that I had to set graphics to low in order to get 60 frames per second in games that I have played from the past year. While I understand that it is not a flagship desktop, I do feel like it should have much better specifications for the price point, at least for the GPU. The RAM is great and handles well, the storage is super fast due to being an ssd but it lacks space at only 512gb. The case and aesthetic of this rig is very nice to look at and the rgb settings are very cool and customizable. Connectivity is great with plenty of usb ports and the noise ratio is fairly low. The wifi works well although I prefer hardwired myself. The thing I do like the most is the expandability options. I can add a better GPU and power supply in the future and be all set. Overall, this works well for a beginner but I do think the price is too high.
