Worked Great-Until it didn't
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop worked fine; fan control was a nice bonus. The "turbo" mode became extremely loud after a couple of months so I avoided using it. Keyboard lighting was generally good, but would often reset to defaults. After about 9 months the SSD died and forced me to purchase a new computer. I wouldn't recommend this product.

Oddly slow for such an expensive laptop
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Can't say much for the longevity of this computer as I only had it for about 3 days before returning it. It froze twice during startup and continued to lag quite a bit. They keyboard would also randomly stop responding. Some of these issues may have been fixed but for a brand new product, I expect less of a hassle. Returned it immediately.

Great Thin and Light Gaming for the Money!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I exchange a Razer blade 15 for this and no regrets. Very thin and light only 4.3 pounds with a full power 2060 not the max-q. Excellent performance, but you will need an extra 16gb stick to maximize performance of the video card. I was already planning on upgrading to 32gb for on the go video editing. The fans can get a little loud but still quieter than the Razer blade I had. With machines this powerful you will get noise when gaming or rendering video. The 1tb ssd is very fast already pinned a couple apps to test the Optane side of the ssd as it features intels new 1tb h10 drive. This has been a great machine on the go for work and gaming. Excellent deal if you can catch it on sale.

100 C CPU temps, some hardware and software issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Summary: Overall, the GU502GV is an OK laptop, but it's overpriced at the original $1850 MSRP. It has some good points, but the chief problems are high CPU temperatures and associated throttling, and some hardware and software problems. I've owned it for about six months now, so I've had plenty of time to really get to know it. Pro: + Performance can be very good to excellent as long as you don't throttle. Games I've played have been pretty fast, CPU intensive tasks are likewise speedy. SSD is decent, but nothing great. The Witcher 2 and 3, which are not too CPU bound, were easily playable on ultra settings with uber-sampling turned off (Witcher 2: 85-140 fps throughout most of the game with an overclock on the GPU, Witcher 3 a little over 60 fps in general, never less than 52-53 fps). + The machine has a nice design, and is light and compact. + Build quality is pretty good. Not much body flex, very good display (though it could be a little brighter), very good keyboard, nice port selection, disassembly and upgrades are easy, battery life is okay (5-5.5 hours with light use). The exceptions are the trackpad and fans (see below). + The Nvidia GPU can be undervolted and OC'd to give a fps bump of about 5-8% without raising the temperature. Con: - CPU thermals are poor. In games and benchmarks peak core temperatures easily hit 100 C, even *with* with an undervolt. Average CPU temps during hard gaming are 90-95 C, but the dGPU stays much cooler, max 80 C. The thermals are one of the two biggest weaknesses of this laptop. With resource-hungry games it both temp and power throttles. -Fan noise: I don't mean the sound of the fans running, I mean an abnormal grinding sound that is emitted by by the GPU fan. Another reviewer wrote about this same problem. - Keyboard lighting is okay, but is not sufficiently bright on the shift symbols. It also has a strong blue tint to all colors except red. - Trackpad is fine, until it isn't. I returned one of these laptops because the trackpad kept missing two-finger right clicks. The replacement spontaneously zooms in and out on occasion when scrolling (also a two-finger gesture). - The finish will pick up and retain for all eternity every fingerprint a human being can possibly generate. Now that I've owned it for a few months, I notice that the black color is wearing off the metal case along the edges. I use the computer every day, but it stays in the house, so the finish is coming off with normal use (i.e. picking it up to move it to another room, my wrists and hands rubbing on the case, etc.). - Asus hobbled it with only one bank of memory soldered on, so as others have noted another $80--100 is needed to get a second stick to go dual channel. -Sound: the sound hardware is fine, speakers get loud enough, but the sound equalizer app they include, called Nahimic Sonic Studio or something like that, is useless. It sorta works with the original install, but if you have to do do a clean install, forget it. It's simply impossible to get it to work again. - If a clean OS install is necessary, Asus's confusing software distribution system will guarantee hours of frustration. I've encountered at least four of their driver or service packages that either installed incorrectly or not at all. A couple of times the failure was because the installer script was bugged, once it was because the installed files weren't signed properly, and another time because Asus doesn't document the correct install procedure (such as disabling certain services first). The sloppy update management is the second biggest weakness of this laptop. Conclusion: I got this machine on sale for $1550, which is about as much as anyone should pay for it. It has its good points (speed - unless you throttle - and mostly solid hardware), but it runs very hot while gaming, even for a compact laptop. Add to that the trackpad and fan problems, the stingy RAM, and the quirky system software update management from Asus, and $1850 ends up being overpriced. True, some people seem to have gotten one that performs better than mine, but others have heat issues like I do, and it's disappointing for a nearly $1900 MSRP laptop to have that kind of variation in performance. 3/5 if you get it for around $1500 or less, 2/5 at regular MSRP.

Nice Unit But Very Loud
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really liked this laptop overall, but the fans were very loud when under any load at all. I had to return because I just could not tolerate the fan noise any longer. Ended up purchasing a MSI liquid cooled desktop and the fans have been whisper quiet.

Disappointed
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Constant lagging with just normal operations and game setting had to be constantly tweaked to avoid lag and audio issues. Dead after 7 months
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Constant battle with keeping it cool. Framerates had sudden drops from 60+ fps to 17 fps on any game above normal graphics settings. I thought it was from thermal throttling. After re-pasting the GPU and CPU, I was able to get it down from 94*F to 70*F with Turbo fan settings. Even so, I still was having the same issues with framerates but not quite as bad. I played Call of Duty at a LAN party for about 3 hours and shut it down. It has never powered back up. No obvious signs of damage found. I think the motherboard crapped out. I purchased this mid-pandemic in April and it has died in December. I wouldn't recommend this or any similar product even if it was still working.

Performs worse than a $400 laptop.
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've tried everything from using dedicated GPU to buying a laptop cooler and cannot seem to get this laptop to perform at all. It can barely run League of Legends at 60 FPS at 1080p on High settings - one less than ultra, some were even on medium! I had the same exact issue with the other model of the Zephyrus. I returned that one and bought the higher performance model thinking that might be the issue but it turns out both are basically useless pieces of junk. A gaming desktop with an RTX 2060 and a cpu that matches the i7-9750H should completely blow League of Legends (and other games that I've had issues with) out of the water. But it's not. Save your money. DO NOT BUY THIS LAPTOP/MODEL.

Keeping Windows and device drivers updated will maintain optimum system stability and performance. If these were already performed to no avail, please try to run a diagnostics or optimization test using the "My ASUS" utility software or application. If this is not pre-installed on the laptop, please download the application at the Microsoft Store. For details on how to use "My ASUS", please go to: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1041686/.
While accessing web applications, please make sure the unit has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since this will definitely affect system speed and performance.

Great laptop UNTIL...
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall this gaming laptop is great if you can get it while on sale for 1500 bucks but full price I think that’s abit over priced for the quality of the specs you get. It runs all program/games smoothly and without stutter if you undervolt the cpu slightly. the downfall for this laptop is the SCREEN it’s very dim even indoor in a well lit home and color accuracies is left anything to be desired Netflix movies shows looks awful blacks looks dull&grey. After less than a month of light usage I returned mine since the screen start to show green vertical line. overall I’m disappointed with this ASUS laptop I think their popularity got the best of them and they forget about product quality control. RETURNED

Having issues
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this laptop on April 28th. When I unboxed it, there is a small crack in the outer shell of the laptop. It's no big issue, but after using the laptop for a few days, I am having issues with it loading up. on staart up. the screen takes forever to load and now it starts flashing 2 or 3 times after logging in. And best buy tech support is unable to do anything because I dont have the "Total Tech Support which is $199.99 per year". I just spent $1800 on this laptop and had no luck with this thing.

The fan is constantly on and loud
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Perhaps my expectations were high for this laptop. Posted .Dear ChefAC,
Thank you for your feedback on the GU502GV. I'm sorry to hear that you are unsatisfied with the noise level of your laptop's fans. Have you tried using Armoury Crate to adjust the fan presets? If your CPU and GPU temperatures stay low, you can manually lower the fan speeds to reduce the noise level. The download link is available here if you don't already have it https://www.asus.com/Laptops/ROG-Zephyrus-M-GU502/HelpDesk_Download/. If you'd like, you could also send me a video of the laptop on idle so I can help you troubleshoot further. ||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The laptop specs overall are okay. The fans are VERY loud. Good specs but bad luck with SSD
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Laptop looks sleek and has solid specs but I have had an SSD failure on both the original one I purchased and the replacement I exchanged it for within days of setting them up. All I had done with them at that point was install the included antivirus and a number of games from Steam. I am not sure if my store received a bad batch or what but I would make sure anything important you put on this laptop is backed up just in case. While it worked the ASUS ROG GU502 was a responsive and well performing laptop for the $1550 price point I bought it at though the fans could get quite loud during resource intensive tasks like games.

DO NOT BUY THIS!!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was going to the store to see if they had the Asus ROG Strix Scar 3 and the store rep said they didn't but instead buy the Asus ROG Zephyrus. I was familiar with that model so I said yes because I needed it for school. Which sadly to my knowledge found out 30+ days later that there are multiple types of Zephyrus's and the rep sold me the one that was the worst. Since the exchange program is only within 30 days I was deeply sadden by this because I already made the move to finance it. I warned you people. Do not buy this product. Do not trust what the rep says! Do your research!
