I love how big the 18inch screen is. I have a minimal coil whine. The only problem is the backlight bleed. Im not sure if I should return it. The bleed from the top is noticeable on dark screen.

I bought this over Black Friday after doing a LOT of research. There were a few things that I needed to have.
1. FAST raw processing power for content creation
2. RTX Graphics for optimal streaming and video editing work
3. Large screen with decent color accuracy and brightness.
This computer hits all of those out of the park. I had several reservations based on some early reviews, the biggest being the backlight bleed. My unit is PERFECT with a beautiful screen.
The Nice To Haves were as follows:
1. Really nice feeling keyboard. This is very subjective, but I like the travel and the "click" feel when typing.
2. Easy to upgrade RAM and storage. I've upgraded to 64GB and added a 4TB 2nd NVME for video editing work. It was super easy to upgrade.
There are a few drawbacks..
1. The build quality is OK. Not great.. Not Terrible, but it's plastic, and you can tell. This is an obvious tradeoff to keep the price reasonable even with top-tier specs. I'm OK with it, but you may feel differently.
2. It really could use a media card reader. It's not a big deal to use a dongle, but it's another piece to carry.
3. The port location is OK but I would have preferred to have a type A and C on each side vs having the type C on the left and the type A on the right. if you need a 2nd type A USB device, it gets in the way of your mouse hand. I can work around it, but it could have been laid out a little better.
Things that surprised me:
1. The Asus Armory Crate software is pretty easy to use. I run my unit mostly on silent mode, even when gaming. There's so much power in this thing that I can drive the panel at 240hz on my e-sports games and not even break a sweat. The software lets you swap between use case with relative ease. There are some custom options if you want to set up something unique for a particular task.
2. It's much quieter than I would have expected, even when on MAX mode.
3. The speakers are better than I expected. You get decent sound and volume without distortion. They are really good for gaming without headphones, watching videos, listening to music while working, etc. They are better than average.
4. The price over Black Friday was 1999.99, so it was a no-brainer for me. This is my primary work laptop, so it's an easy write-off. I would have bought it at the regular price, but I was hesitant, given the early reviews. A good screen is really important to me. When the price dropped, and knowing that returns are NOT a problem if needed, I pulled the trigger. I'm super happy I did.
Last thoughts:
I've run a bunch of synthetic benchmarks on this, and it meets or beats my 12900K desktop with 4070 TI graphics. There is ZERO downside to using this for work or for play, and the 18" screen has made all the difference for productivity, given my poor eyesight. If you are looking for an ultra-performant desktop replacement, this is it.

I've been able to enjoy this laptop for a couple months now, so I thought it would be plenty of time with it to write a review.
I'll start off by saying I came from an Acer Predator Helios 500, and while I loved that laptop it isn't even in the same universe as this beast. For the price you cannot beat it. I assumed with the slim design that thermals would be an issue, as my old laptop would burn my legs if I had it on them while gaming and it was much thicker. But this thing has phenomenal cooling and amazing performance.
My only recommendation for this is to add some more RAM and another m.2 SSD. I was at 50% memory usage just on the desktop with nothing running. I ended up upgrading to 32gb of memory and now I'm at 50-60% usage while gaming.

Horrible display. Backlight bleed galore, with extremely bright corners and flashlighting all along the bottom.
Coil whine is unbearable, sounds like screaming ants. Other laptops I have with high end hardware (another 4080 laptop and a 4090 laptop) do not have this issue so to say its normal is wrong. It is not normal. The issue is the power stage design, it clearly has issues.
Did I mention how bad the display is? Not only does it have horrible backlight bleed, the anti-glare coating completely takes away from the sharpness of the QHD+ resolution. The 16:10 aspect ratio is also horrible as any games that don't support 16:10 have glowing gray (since this display has horrible black levels) bars on the top and bottom. Asus quality has taken a nose dive. Stay away from this junk.

I purchased mine from Best Buy and it will be going back. I had several issues with this machine, first one being the screen bleed, wow! Talk about horrible QC! Second is the computer would just randomly freeze and this weird pattern of colors would appear on the screen (see pic). When this happened I would have to hold down the power button to get it to turn off. Third problem is the temperature of the hardware runs way too hot during gaming, this will dramatically reduce longevity of the components. If you decide to buy one, make sure you get the longest warranty you can because you will probably need it.
Unfortunately mine unit had several issues and at $2500 (16GB, 1TB, 4080 version) I shouldn't be dealing with these issues on such a new and expensive machine. I will be returning mine to Best Buy after work today and will be ordering a new Dell m18 4080. At least with Dell I can place an order and wait for it to arrive instead of staying up late trying to allocate the product I want. #neveragain

This thing can run anything at 1440p Ultra/Extreme 100-240fps. I can play Cyberpunk at 100fps with RT on ultra. Smooth frame rates. Stays cool, but yes the fans kick up a little during intense gaming. I keep it in performance mode but switching to turbo can add 10-20 fps. Its not perfect but the Intel 13th Gen and RTX 4080 make this thing a beast!!

I have nothing bad to say about this laptop other than the fact that it’s a big large, but that’s what you sign up for when getting an 18” 240hz screen with a powerhouse of a GPU and CPU. Compared to my old 2022 ROG Strix advantage edition with 5900HX and 6900m, it’s about double the frame rates in nearly everything. The benchmarks on it are no slouch as well, putting down about 21k on 3DMark Time Spy, compared to about 11k on my advantage edition. I’ve had literally one graphics crash of this laptop, but I blame Halo infinite since it’s not very optimized. I can encode videos and render basically anything as if this were a 4070 tower PC with an intel 13700k. The 4090 version does 10-15% better in most 1440p applications, but 1080 you’ll barely notice a difference. Best bang for the buck in my opinion, especially since I got it this under $2k price tag for cyber Monday last year. Again, the only downside is the size of this beast, but it’s worth it.

This is a awesome laptop. I am sorry to hear that others have issues with this product. All the mentioned issues, don't apply to mine. I have tinnitus, that's why I maybe don't hear all the noise that others complain about. The monitor is beautiful, very bright. Elder Scrolls Online looks astonishing on this laptop. Modern Warfare 2 it runs at about 150 fps on high settings. It doesn't get to hot while gaming. Asus didi a good job with the new cooling system, in my opinion. The laptop is easy to upgrade, I installed a second M.2 drive and 32 gigs of ram. I am very pleased.

The laptop is great and works well, you might want to undervolt it for better thermal efficiency and overall performance. If you want to use it by putting lower power into the system, you can use type C charging.

So i went from a lenovo legion that had a 2070 super max Q to this beast of a machine!! I play mine with peripheral’s like a 240hz qhd monitor, razer blackwidow v4 keyboard and razer DAv3 mouse. So i cant say much about the laptops screen itself asni has its display off to get more power onto the big screen. I game a lot, but im average arouns 120fps on MW2 at 1440p with maxed out graphics with no type of dlss or dlaa. I get around 100fps on cyberpunk wifh physco settings with FG+dlss! This thing can handle task with ease! Its also got a mux switch to get even befter performance from your gpu! Im loving this machine!!! My performance was over double my old pc which is just amazing! Its also got a 4080 so you get the added bonus of frame gen in certain games, it’s especially good in single player games where you wanna max out visuals but have even better fps than normal. Ill be upgrading mine with 2x32 5200 ram and adding a 2TB m.2 tomorrow!

When I first got the laptop it was pretty slow for me. So I went to the geek squad to upgrade my ram and my storage to 64 ram and 2Tb storage . Now I can play games smoothly. I’m not sure if I should get me one of those cooling fan to help cool down the laptop while playing game. I haven’t have sn experience with my laptop heating up yet that’s because I use it on my old cooling fan . All in all it was OK. That because I’m not used to the laptop yet, so I still feel a little off specially, with this brand is new to me. I don’t like their mouse pad. Just not used to it

I took a chance on ASUS because I really wanted the 18" screen and everything thing else I could afford would only have 16". Had some concerns based on the initial reviews here, I should have taken heed.
My thoughts and issues in no particular order:
* The lights and bootup sound are cool.
* When I first turned it on it sat there doing nothing for 2 minutes, only the rgb on the front swirling, no display, no sounds. So I pushed the spacebar, and it stuck. Eventually the membrane popped back up, but it still sticks one out of every 2-3 times I push it.
*WiFi 6 is blazing fast
*The backlight bleed is bad, but the flashlighting along the bottom is unacceptable at this price range.
* The 18" screen is impressive. The color depth is absolutely stunning.
* Will randomly crash in the middle of things, no errors, just screen goes black and it sits there with the rainbow LEDs swirling.
* Armory Crate is glitchy and the UI is garbage.
* Coil Whine isn't terrible. Most of the time it's covered up by the noise from the fans. When I set it to silent mode though, it's definitely noticeable.
* I can't get it to detect the display as anything other than Generic PNP Monitor. As such, I can't enable HDR in windows settings and all of the games say that the display is not HDR compatible.
* Ridiculously high frame rates in every game I played. It's so fricken powerful
*ABSOLUTE FINGERPRINT MAGNET. I thought the matte surface would have been good about this, I was wrong.
Overall, it's a shame that there are so many random quality issues that I can't see gambling this much money on its longevity. Will be returning it.

So far laptop has been great other than a few minor problems and one serious problem
Concerning other reviews I have no coil whine in my laptop and barely any backlight bleed. However upon arriving my laptop came with certain paint chips off already along with sleep issues. For some reason the laptop sometimes refuses to wake up from sleep so I just turned it off.
The biggest issue I’ve had is random shutdowns during games. I believe I narrowed it down to the terrible thermal paste job done by ASUS. I had to spend $200 just to send my laptop back for a RMA cause I couldn’t get the temps fixed. Quite annoyed at that
