Broke just over 30 Days.

The companies are confused about who to help, either Best Buy or Asus. I won't be purchasing Asus again.

A Complete Mobile Gaming Package
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ASUS - ROG Strix G16 16" FHD 165Hz Gaming Laptop offers a full set of features and performance at a reachable price-point. Design is subjective, but I like the subtle angles and slant of the vents that give it a distinctive look. The lighting scheme feels almost extravagant with a number of design lights to go along with the full-featured keyboard lighting layout. It can be overwhelming at times, so it’s good that you can customize it - or even disable it if you prefer. The 16” screen is excellent for gaming - especially for when you want to take it with you and still have a decent screen to game on. I found the quality to be crisp, bright and vibrant. The keyboard was responsive with a comfortable layout and good feel. The plastic build feels solid and substantial without being overly heavy. A large laptop is never light, but this one always feels lighter-than-expected when I pick it up. A bonus with larger laptops is more room for better speakers and that’s the case here. The speakers give strong, clear sound with a good range - especially for laptop speakers. As far as gameplay goes, I did not encounter any problems. I’m not an extreme gamer, but I like to get into the action with clear crisp graphics and no hiccups. The ASUS - ROG Strix G16 16" FHD 165Hz Gaming Laptop delivers an absolutely solid gaming experience. I did not experience any negatives and am thoroughly enjoying this as my primary PC gaming machine. I won’t take time to mention the extensive list of technical specs in detail, but they all combine to make this feel like a complete gaming package.

Powerful!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ASUS ROG Strix G16 gaming laptop is a beast with a bit of a catch. The G16 is well built and has a premium feel. There’s plenty of RGB and it is an overall great looking laptop. One thing I’m impressed with is the amount of vents and cooling capabilities. You get plenty of venting and airflow with this design so you don’t have to worry about overheating. Laptops can overheat quickly and easily, especially if you don’t have it on a hard flat surface, so it’s nice to see plenty of vents. Performance wise, this laptop is very good. You get everything you need to play all the AAA titles with high frame rates In Full HD. Which brings me to “the catch”. Now this display is not a super high resolution display. It’s just a FHD panel. To some, that may be a big negative. However, with the display being 16 inches, it’s not a big issue at all since all the pixels are condensed to a small panel. I feel the picture looks great and does the job. If you want higher resolution, you may want to consider hooking up an external display If you tend to use the laptop in a more stationary configuration. You can upgrade the RAM and SSD if you choose. I definitely recommend adding more storage space via an M.2 SSD. Games are huge these days and 1TB won’t cut it. Overall, I’m loving this laptop. It’s fast, looks good and plays everything I throw at it with zero issues.

Lighter powerhouse for max gaming
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This ASUS ROG Strix G16 is a crazy powerhouse of gaming power. Built with a great list of components to make it a reliable, capable laptop, it definitely packs many features to make this an outstanding choice for gaming laptops. Unboxing this laptop is pretty cool. I am a huge fan of creative box designs and this is probably the coolest I have seen in a while. After taking off the outer sleeve, you will get the whole interior of the box. The front end flips down, releasing the laptop from its little holds that the cardboard is keeping the laptop in place with. Once the laptop is out, the cardboard flap that it was sitting on folds up and reveals the power supply and brick. In another section that flips up, reveals the general computer pamphlets and warranty info. The laptop is protected in a plastic cover, as well as the power supply brick to protect from scratches/ etc. Overall for boxing, the laptop doesn't have any cushioning, but it is very well secured in the packaging and a fantastic unboxing experience. Out of the box, the G16 feels pretty light for its size and thickness. Its thickest point is about 1" so it is a little beefy. The foot pedestals give it quite a bit of clearance on a desk underneath for cooling which I have not seen on many gaming laptops I have had so that is a definite plus. The chassis is definitely a light weight design, but also allows a minor bit of flexing. It is not bad enough to warrant a lower rating, but I understand wanting to shed some pounds with all that high end hardware in there. It shouldn't feel like a chore to carry your laptop, and this definitely is not. The I/O for this laptop and its location is not the most enjoyable for me, and I would much rather they added it to the rear of the laptop. Instead, they opted for sole side I/O and charger port. They also kept it very minimal. It has 2 standard USB 3.2 Ports, 2 USB C 4 ports, an Ethernet port, a headphone jack, and an HDMI port. As stated, the charger plug also plugs into the side of the laptop. There is no SD-card slot so you will need a USB version if you want to have that. Removing the bottom cover for upgrading is simple, only 9 Phillips screws. ASUS boasts an easy upgrade-ability for ram, storage, fans, ext. The charger cord sticking out the side of the laptop does feel a little cumbersome and unusual, but again, not enough to warrant a lower rating. Opening the laptop is a bit of an enjoyable feeling, as ASUS has added a small lip to the edge of the monitor so it is easy to grab and open. This lip also houses the camera and mics. The weight balance is nice and is just a 1 handed operation to open the laptop. It does come with a fairly thick key/screen protector which is nice. The keyboard itself has a nice layout but just to note, does not include a number pad. The keys feel good and not sloppy. An interesting touch is the spacebar and qwer-asdf keys are translucent as well as the full keyboard being LED backlit with multiple color arrays. It gives it a very unique look and looks to help keyboard controls in the dark. It has a fairly large touch pad and the clicks feel nice. Boot and setup felt a little sluggish but I feel was within the standard of every normal windows set up. Windows needed quite a few updates as usual, and all seemed well after the updating was done. I am kind of let down that 16gb of ram is still normal in this kind of price range. At least it is very easy to update to 32gb or more if wanted at a later time. It is dual channel, so they have that going for them. The screen quality is very colorful and bright. It is a 1900x1200 resolution, which they consider a "2k" display. It is only 300nit of brightness overall, but it does illuminate well and blacks look pretty good. It is an IPS screen with a 165Hz refresh which is nice for getting those FPS numbers. It also includes NVIDIA GSYNC so you are getting additional support from the card for a better display. Everything looks amazing on it. Sound has been realistic for what you would expect from a set of laptop speakers. They do have Dolby Atmos driving them, and some sounds are very easy to hear and great clarity, while others sound a bit muffled and diminished. That is really being super picky. The overall sound quality is good, but honestly, a lot of gamers will be using headphones anyways. The meat and potatoes of this laptop is its system specs. It has a Ryzen 9 8940hx, which tested very well on Cinebench. It is only 16 cores, but it does provide more "Performance" cores in comparison to Intel. It has been very fast in running blender and FL Studio. Also packed into this laptop is a RTX 5070 TI with 12GB of Graphical memory. This of course can be overclocked slightly and MSI Afterburner and Kombustor show how well it can handle the work flow and keep cool at the same time. The little stands on the bottom really do help with the cooling and allowing air flow under the laptop. Along with ASUS intelligent cooling, temps have been quite mild for heavy work flow. FPS in Call of Duty and Apex Legends have been outstanding, and have been able to run the game at max settings with barely dips in the 50fps range. Forza on max settings runs flawlessly with no lag or juttering with fps consistantly over 80fps. With a 1TB SSD using PCIe 4.0, It also helps with loading the games with next to no load times, and I would suggest adding an extra SSD in there for plenty more game storage. Overall, this computer handles phenomenally. With options like a mux switch that enhances gaming, to Aura that maximizes your LED keyboard experience for whatever you are playing, this laptop brings everything home into one well rounded powerhouse gaming package. I am pleasantly suprised at the performance of the Ryzen 9 processor, as I am used to running Intel. The RTX 5070 TI has been quite the brute. This is definitely a laptop worthy of gaming.

Super fast gaming laptop!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hello friends and welcome to my review of the new Asus ROG Strix G 16! As always Asus delivers with very cool packaging. I know some people don't care, but to me it shows attention to detail that others fall flat on. Also this unit comes with a very large power supply unit. This is going to come in handy during long gaming sessions! First off I want to say that Asus does a good job of not overloading the new Rog with bloatware. That has been a pet peeve of mine for many years. Most retail quality laptops and desk tops have monster amounts of bloatware, and I always spend weeks unloading junk I never wanted and did not ask for. Due to this fact it will be up to you to add the stuff you want onto it. This will be easy and enjoyable not a giant headache. But on to the meat and potatoes of this review, I really like the new keyboard. It is revamped from previous models to included transparent hot key. These keys light up extra bright due to being a clear color. For me it's a cool feature I haven't seen before, and looks killer during usage. Some might say it's a bit much, but I'm pretty sure you can actually turn the colors completely off. It has lots of light controls for the keyboard and the ambient underbody lights. Speaking of the underbody of the new Asus Rog, it is not a flat smooth bottom to a computer. No instead Asus opted to add depth and grooves and vents to the bottom. Once again great attention to detail. It's as if no stone was left unturned during the production of the new Rog. As if that isn't enough, The Rog is also a powerhouse of a laptop. Very quick load times, and little if any lag during game play. The Ryzen processor in the new Rog is a nice upgrade from previous models and is gaming plus! The grafics on the Rog are also fantastic! Crisp rich colors and nice clean deep blacks help a lot with contrast. Add that in with the ryzen and you have a great little gaming laptop. That is easy to take with you anywhere! In my opinion This is true winner from Asus, If you are in the market for something like this I personally would recommend the Rog strix G16!

Stylish and Powerful
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very stylish, lightweight but powerful Gaming Laptop from ASUS. It has a colorful backlit keyboard with matching led lights around the front edge of the laptop to use your laptop in style. The start of my use of the laptop was a little rocky with some issues shutting down after gaming, but ASUS support was very responsive and got me back up and running again. They had me factory reset the laptop and then there were several bios and windows updates, but everything has been stable now for some excellent gameplay. The screen is sharp and with all the power it has to offer our gameplay has been smooth online and offline. (The 16GB of RAM is plenty, but it has two slots allowing you to upgrade it to 64GB if desired.) My son has been playing Fortnite for hours at a time stress testing the laptop and I've been playing Call of Duty. It has passed with flying colors. During gameplay the fans can get loud, as they do with most gaming laptops, but they work well in keeping the computer cool and they slow down shortly after gameplay as they catch up. With the push of the button, you can go from Silent Mode to Performance to Turbo and back again. When not playing games, the silent mode has very little noise coming from the fans and instantly brightens up the screen for reading. The one negative about the gameplay is the power adapter block gets very hot as it does not have a fan or cooling system. It’s fine, but just something to keep an eye on as to where you place it while playing. Overall, we have had hours of fun with this powerful laptop and would recommend it to anyone looking for a gaming laptop at this price point.

Muscular Powerhouse
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As soon as I pulled this beast out of the box, I knew it was a monster. It reminds me of my first laptop from 2000. Heavy, bulky … portable, but not portable like we’ve been used to over the past decade or so. I’m coming from an ROG G14, which is a thin and light gaming laptop. This G16 makes my G14 feel svelte. I have used it in my lap but it gets pretty hot so I put a cooling pad under it. I prefer 1080P because I’m sitting right in front of it so I don’t need to tax the GPU. That’s my personal preference. So knowing that, here are my observations: The fans are loud. They’re tunable but I use this for gaming and they are on constantly. The backlighting is cool and there’s an extra strip at the bottom. Note that the ASDF, QWER keys, and space bar are clear. So the backlight looks extra on those keys and it’s a little bit harder to see the letters on them. Issue: no fingerprint reader or Windows Hello cam, so I have to enter my pin when I boot. Mildly annoying but then again, Windows isn’t very good at reading my fingerprint nor my face in any of my previous PCs. The trackpad is excellent. It’s large, probably glass, and matches my MBA in quality. My Xbox controller paired immediately and works flawlessly with GamePass and Steam. I absolutely love how compatible and simple it is, coming from Xinput drivers and compatibility issues in the old days. Issue: I am a clean person but it’s a fingerprint magnet. Then again, every black piece of tech these days is. Considering its purpose, playing games, it’s the best laptop I’ve ever used. Sitting close and playing Xbox play anywhere games in FHD looks perfect and frame rate never dips. It actually feels like playing an Xbox on a monitor that’s sitting in my lap but I can move around. Couldn’t be more satisfied.

This computer is all that it is cracked up to be.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First thing I noticed while unboxing this computer was the way it was packaged. The packaging was so secure and the box was so sturdy I definitely can tell this was quality before I opened it. The screen on this laptop was just the right size. The screen is big enough to see the graphics and the color was vibrant. One of the things that I like about the computer was the fact that it did not have the numerical pad on the side. A lot of people like this, but for me, I don't think this leaves me a lot of room to comfortably type. The processor on this computer is super fast. The Intel core i7 is sooooo fast. and the performance is amazing. I love the fact the keys light up and you can see what you're doing even in the dark. I was presently surprised by the wholesome quality of the camera. The camera is so very clear and the microphone is clear and amazing. Whether you are streaming or editing this is the computer that you want to invest in. I guess you can expect the battery life to be short when you are gaming. I did notice as I am working on it doing things such as surfing the internet, it seems to last a little longer. The 16 GBS of ram make surfing the internet, or gaming great, it gives the computer a smooth streaming experience. This computer is really powerful and you can't go wrong with purchasing this. it is wonderful for multitasking and the graphics a to be embraced. Do yourself a favor and purchase this computer you will not be disappointed.

Next level amazing
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all, I love the design, the make and the look of this laptop. It's very simple to the point and beautiful. Quite simply put it is a gamer's laptop. It's got the Nvidia GEForce RTX, And it definitely gets the job done alongside the AMD Ryzen 9HX (I have long said AMD is the chip maker when it comes to gaming) these two perform amazingly together. I ran my Grand theft Auto 5 online on this computer and it ran like a dream. The graphics processing was beautiful and astonishing. It's really hard to say that anyone thing was better than the other. Now to push it a little more ihdmi out of the computer into my gaming screen and it's still held up flawless performance. The one negative. If you want to call it that is screen size and the main reason I hooked it up to my gaming monitor. If the screen was just maybe 3 in bigger I probably wouldn't cry about it as much but even for its size it still holds up. My second issue is that there's no right panel number keys. However, this being a game on laptop I don't really need that so maybe I'm just used to size and if that's the best I can come up with for a complaint. This is definitely a gaming laptop to have. Be sure to get one

Powerful gaming on the go!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ever since most multiplayer games went to being played online, many gamers probably don't see gaming laptops as an option, especially with little to no ways to do any upgrades. I remember my friends and I getting together for LAN gaming parties where you either had a laptop to bring or brought your entire system to play. But, sometimes having a laptop that is more than capable for gaming along with being portable for other uses is something that makes sense. Such as with my youngest son, who is about to start college, so having a robust laptop that he can use during classes, but still be able to handle any gaming, is definitely a plus. The ASUS ROG Strix G16 16" FHD 165Hz Gaming Laptop, with an AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX Mobile Processor and its built-in, recently released, NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti 12GB Laptop GPU is a very nice "entry-level" into the next generation of premium gaming laptops. So, I'm just going to say that even though this is called gaming laptop, it won't really be used as a laptop. Or least not recommended to be used as a laptop. The bottom design, with different areas that stick out that could be uncomfortable to the legs, plus how it is set up for its excellent, extra airflow that probably shouldn't be blocked, makes this more of a "portable gaming" computer rather than a gaming "laptop" computer. I'm usually very critical about how some manufacturers package their products, no matter what type. For this laptop, with the way they package it, unboxing it is a rather unique experience, with the way it presents the laptop for removal and the area with the power supply. It was a rather nice touch. The laptop is decently weighted, the lid has a nice semi-smooth texture, and nice overall design. The 280W power supply that it comes with seems to almost weigh just as much as the laptop. The lid/screen is fairly thin, about the same thickness as another ASUS general laptop I have. The full body width of the laptop is almost exactly the same as that other 15.6"ASUS laptop but is a little over 1" longer due to the increased vertical size of the screen. The screen resolution is 1920 x 1200, giving it an 8:3 ratio, compared to 16:9 for normal widescreen. The extra 120 pixels gives just that much more to see. The lid isn't hinged directly at the back of the base, but by a couple of arms on each side that almost glide in and out of slots in the base. I was a little surprised that the lid has as much flex to it as it does, like it is missing a little reinforcement along the edges. It's not like it is going to roll up but will probably want to focus on using the little opening grip in the front-center and definitely not carry it around by the screen when opened. For I/O, LAN (full-height RJ-45), HDMI and two USB-C ports on the left side (with both USB-C having DisplayPort support, Power Delivery, as well as G-SYNC support), power port (which I was a little disappointed it still uses a barrel plug instead of a magnetic connector like some are using now (like with one of my other PC laptops) to prevent wearing out the port), and a 3.5mm headphone jack. On the right side, there are two USB-A 3.2 ports. The touchpad is very smooth, glides with ease, and is slightly oversized compared to the other widescreen laptops I have due to the larger base. The keyboard is nice and quiet (which is my preference!), with just the right response rate. When starting up, it has a BIOS Boot startup sound that was getting a little annoying after a few reboots. I did finally go into BIOS (F2), then Advanced Settings -> Advanced -> scroll to Animation Post Logo Configuration to be able to turn off initial boot sound (if desired). After going through the usual Windows 11 initial setup, then the installation of all the gaming apps, I got into MyASUS app and then Armoury Crate to go in a set things that way I prefer as well as check on all settings that are available. While I'm not really a big fan of all the RGB-on-everything craze, I did like some of the options on this system. There is the back/under-lighting of the keys on the keyboard, but then there are a few keys (QWER ASDF and Spacebar) that are translucent that allows them to stand out. Then, there is a strip of lighting along the lower front-edge that wrap slightly around each side. By default, there is lighting that comes on when it goes into Sleep mode. I didn't really care for that and was able to turn that off in Armoury Crate, under Lighting -> Settings, then turning off Sleep. Once I finally started to try out some of my regular, that is what confirmed that is it a great system. All the games ran great on the highest display settings, nice and smooth at 165Hz. I will say that during gameplay, the top of the laptop, mainly all along near the screen was quite warm to the touch after 20 minutes or so. It did cool down fairly quickly after stopping game play. The GPU and display work great together. On a starfighter game, I saw at one point it was getting to 530 fps during the game, with the GPU running at around 92%. One extra positive is that two of the items that are usually the biggest needs to upgrade, RAM and storage, are indeed upgradeable. There is an extra M.2 2280 slot for added another NVMe drive, and there is another SO-DIMM DDR5 slot for adding more memory. So, if you are looking for a really gaming system with really good specs and would also like to be able to take it with you, this is definitely one to consider.

Great Gaming Laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Asus ROG Strix G16 is a fantastic gaming laptop. Gaming laptops have come a really long way in the past several years, and this packs in all the tech that you need to play modern games, all without being an unwieldy beast of a machine. This G16 comes with an AMD Ryzen 9HX, RTX 5070Ti, 16GB ram, 1TB ssd, and a 16" 165hz fhd display. While I would have liked 32GB of ram and a 2TB ssd, what is provided here is still sufficient to play modern games at high settings. I tested the system using 3DMark and a variety of different games, including COD and Cyberpunk 2077. The 3DMark scores were fantastic, almost performing as well as my 3090 gaming desktop. And in COD and Cyberpunk, I was able to have the settings all pretty high and still achieve great framerates. In Cyberpunk specifically, I was able to set everything to the highest settings and still achieve 60fps. I'm not a huge performance fiend, so 60fps is more than enough for me. However, if you want to achieve the 165hz that the screen is capable of, you'll need to turn down some of the raytracing settings. Overall I was just very impressed with the performance that this laptop provided. I have been very impressed with Asus gaming products over the years, and the Strix G16 continues that tradition. If you are looking for a more than capable gaming laptop that is made with high quality components, then you can't go wrong with the Strix G16.

Upgrade RAM recommended
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Also 5 stars to Best Buy open box excellent condition. No scratches. I highly recommend to upgrade the RAM. I upgraded to 64GB and I achieved all the benchmark results reported online so far but I assume 32GB are sufficient. Especially the CPU geekbench 6 benchmark was on the very low end. In general it’s a nice laptop, good size and not heavy at all (first I thought Best Buy shipped an empty box when I picked it up lol). Altough I think the original price of $2k is a little bit too high (6/24/2025) considering that you have to spend a few bucks on RAMs too, to make that thing using all it’s power. The open box prices are the spot the laptop should be in in my opinion.

Good, but light on OEM RAM
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very good laptop that can handle most games at high settings. One thing I noticed early on is the base SODIMM Ram is on the lighter side at 16GB, within the first month I had to swap it out for 64GB that I purchased separately.

Great Gaming Laptop, Upgradeable
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The build quality of the laptop is very good, it is a very solid machine. The keyboard is quiet, the RGB lighting is very customizable. It is ready to upgrade. It came with a single 16GB RAM stick, and a single 1TB SSD drive. You have to take the entire back off old school style, removing the screws to add in or replace the memory sticks or the SSD stick drives. After intial testing, where th,e laptop performed very well on games, which it should using a very good video card on a FHD 165 hz display, I upgraded the memory to 32 GB (2 x 16 GB sticks) and I cloned the Gen4 1TB to a Gen5 1TB SSD for the system and game drive and repurposed the Gen4 1TB for storage. The Gen5 drive tested faster than the Gen4 drive, so that speaks favorably for the Laptops Gen5 capable SSD slot. The added RAM help a bit with performance in games and memory capability in general as you would expect. The display is very quick and you can max out the settings in a lot of games and still get good FPS because the display resolution is only FHD. The 5070ti does a very good job in Frame Generation, it is getting better every generation Nvidia puts out for laptop video cards. I am impressed by this laptop, outputing to a 4K TV it is still playing games at a high level. Direct Storage capable games are working very well with this laptop. I would recommend this Laptop for any gamer.

BEAST of a laptop.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The unstable drivers have been updated. Its a solid laptop! For those of you who are claiming that RoPs should be 96 on a RTX 5070ti LAPTOP are wrong! It should have 80 RoPs NOT 96 that number if (96) is for the desktop version. Stop spreading FALSE information!
