Paper Tiger: Specs don't matter if Reliability=1

Well, around September 1, 2025, I returned my recently purchased ASUS TUF 16 because the TUF keyboard was too cramped on the left side. Just not my fit. No shame. I gave it 4 stars because keyboards can be very personal. This keyboard is great. The specs are great (not crazy about 1080 by 1200 but it looked good; and not a fan of port placement, but that's nitpicking) The FATAL problem is all the FATAL errors randomly causing reboots while I am trying to get work done, I have spent twice as many hours trying to troubleshoot this than I have using it. I have had MAYBE 2 or so hours gaming because it can't handle Word, Adobe, Outlook, and Excel running at the same time. Seriously, since 9/15 or so reliability average is MAYBE 1.5 to 2.5--at best. Haven't seen the north side of 3 for certain. Every fix to drivers or whatever causes more issues. Yes I have all the latest NVIDIA and Windows updates. But ASUS Mouse wants to ride roughshod over logitech's drivers. It can't handle runnig a high res monitor out of the HDMI port and a 1080 monitor out of the USB-Port. As a result, I have uninstalled Armory crate, the daily problematic ASUSLighting, and any number of other ASUS drivers and software, disabled processes as each successive fix because this laptop won't stop keep giving me BSODs. I have 20 days left to return this laptop, and the odds are looking like 95% than I will pony up $1000 more for a higher tier, non-ASUS laptop (HP or Acer or Lenovo) that hopefully won't be laden with unnecessary bells and whistles that cause system unreliability. I am not asking for the moon. I just need Windows, Word, Acrobat Pro, Outlook, and Excel to work at consistent reliability at 9 and leave me time to play demanding games now and in the future instead of troubleshooting 16 hours a week and pushing my work past deadlines. I REALLLLLLLY wanted to love this laptop because--ON PAPER--the specs are great, I love the look, and the keyboard fits. But none of that matters if reliability hovers at 1-2 despite dozens of hours of trying to get rid of critical errors and warnings. Last night it just randomly started typing uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu in my Word documents.

      Dear Timothy,

      Thank you for your feedback.

We do understand your disappointment with this laptop and the inconvenience this may have caused if you are experiencing multiple issues. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, this is a random problem. If Windows, drivers, BIOS, applications and games are up to date and you are still experiencing issues, check if you are running the most current Armoury Crate utility software. The most current version is available for download at: https://www.asus.com/supportonly/armoury%20crate/helpdesk_download/. Addtionally, while accessing cloud games or web applications, ensure this unit has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since poor and unstable internet connection will affect system stability and performance. Furthermore, if problem persists, Windows is possibly corrpted. If this is the case, you may try running a Cloud Recovery as a last resort before sending this laptop in for warranty service. For helpful tips on how to run a Cloud Recovery, please go to:  https://www.asus.com/us/support/faq/1047855/ . An RMA number is required to send it in for service. For RMA details, please go to: https://www.asus.com/us/support/article/818/.

If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and I would be happy to help. Or you are most welcome to call Product Support Hotline at: 1(888) 678-3688. Also, you can chat with an ASUS live support agent from the link: https://www.asus.com/us/support/article/1135/.

This PC will run your games however constant crashes and lag that i didn't have on my older laptop on the same games. I only upgraded so i could launch and play newer titles, which it does just horribly. Fortnite worked fine on my Strix Advantage however crashes after about an hour of play consistently now no matter what settings or Driver updates/ reinstalls i do.

    Best Laptop I've Ever Used

I got my new Asus ROG Strix G16 about a week ago and I have been very impressed with its performance. I have been playing new and old games alike and having a blast taking some of my old saves to higher levels with my new found access to this laptops superior processing capabilities. Before I get into all that, I want to take a step back. I have been an avid PC gamer since the release of The Bards Tale in 1985 when I was 13. But it wasn’t until 1990 and 91 when Simcity and then Civilization came out that I really found my gaming passion. Those potentially massive, sprawling simulation type games that though awesome would often expand to the point that my poor computer would be on the verge of a meltdown. Did I finally find a computer that can handle all I can build? I don’t know if it can handle anything, but it’s handling everything I have ever built better than any computer I have ever owned. As soon as I took this beast out of the box it felt like I had a well engineered piece of technology in my hands. Everything about it feels sturdy and solid. The hinge action between the base and screen feels so smooth yet strong. The overall aesthetic is charming. I like the whole Republic of Gamers motif. First thing I did was to test the speakers. I started off listening a variety of musical artists and then chunks of a few of my favorite movies. I have probably owned 7 laptops in my life, by far and away the best sounding laptop I’ve had. Of course it’s not going to compete with top shelf headphones or some high end gaming speakers, but it sounds decent. I could watch a movie on this thing and not be overly pining for my other audio options. I’ve never thought that about any laptop I’ve owned. Speakers exceeded expectations. The video quality is also solid. I don’t think I would say exceeds expectations, but meets the high expectations I had going in. I started with movies, then sports and ultimately my library of my favorite games and I was satisfied at every step. The screen always looks bright and crisp with no screen tearing or other visual bugs of any sort. I am however someone who only uses my laptop indoors. It doesn’t look bright outdoors in the sun, I have had laptops do better in this one area. As far as the rest of the features, I would have to say meets or exceeds expectations in every category. The keyboard is large, responsive and satisfying to the touch. The cooling, oh the cooling capabilities! Those fans can get a little loud once on high spin but the work very well. I had the laptop on my tray on my lap for a few hours while pushing it with some intense gaming and it never got what I would consider “hot”. The battery life is also solid. When using it for non gaming activities I was able to keep It unplugged all day using it off and on with no issues. I love the little LED light bar that wraps around the front of the machine. It’s a fun little aesthetic pleaser. The final area I wanted to touch on was game performance. I have been doing this long enough and seen so many changes and upgrades and new benchmarks that all I really care about anymore is…how do my games perform? As I mentioned before my preferred gaming options are simulations where you continue to grow your city, theme park or intergalactic empire! When playing on the largest maps, all of these games seem to eventually slow at some point. Eventually there are too many people, guests, planets, units, farms or trees swaying in the wind. This laptop gave me the best performance of any computer I have owned on many of my games. I was particularly curious to see how one of my all time favorites, Planet Coaster, would do. This game doesn’t take advantage of the multi threading capabilities of modern processors. I loaded up the largest park I ever built and removed the guest cap. It ran smooth and I could easily continue building on the map! Every game I love playing performs fantastic on this machine. Games I tried old saves on where I new felt I could expand further include Planet Coaster 1 and 2, Planet Zoo, City Skylines 2, Tropico 6, and Civilization 6. Games I tired that just performed better include Out of the Park Baseball (sim time noticeable cut) and Dragons Dogma 2. All in all I am a huge fan of this machine. Sure, the fans can get a little loud at times and the screen could be a little brighter as to be able to use it better outdoors. But at the end of the day this is a very powerful and impressive machine that is beautiful and feels well built. I have had enough quality Asus products in my life now that they are really starting to build up some brand loyalty with me as well. If I knew someone looking for a solid gaming laptop in this price range I would absolutely recommend it to a friend. Well done Asus!

This laptop is really bad. I'm experiencing random restarts just from surfing the web, random restarts when wake from sleep, games crashes randomly. I've updated the Bios, reinstalled windows, updated all the drivers and everything under the sun and it's still doing all these things. I'm not the only one experiencing this issue. Just google Asus Rog Strix G16 G614pr random crashes and you'll find this is a common issue with this laptop. Avoid this laptop and Asus gaming laptop in general, their bios is flawed across multiple models.
