I don’t play intensive games but for even Valorant on low graphics and not intensive games, you can hit 120fps on 120hz (1920x1080 and likely even the 2k resolution). Minecraft runs 51-60 fps in normal world and can hit 100+ with Optifine (1.19 version) on Fast Graphics and Render & Simulation distance of 12 chunks. The part of this laptop that I believe to be a potential dealbreaker to others is the heat, for a thin laptop, it can reach 90° C, but this is only if you push it hard. I’ve turned off turbo boost to help this a bit but if you use the “Ultimate” GPU setting, it will spike your temps in exchange for consistent response time and frames. (I don’t normally use it) I also found inconsistent Wi-Fi performance, with some occasional high ping and lag regardless of the connection (tested with two different routers) in Valorant. However, it has almost never affected real gameplay and I can reach high speeds. I can’t find any other time I get bad connection issues. The built-in microphone does not work on Phasmophobia no matter how much you try to make it work, if you are interested in playing that. I have not tested 100% battery life yet but it’s awful when playing games, but could last 9 hours (according to the estimation) on a 100% charge on 60hz, 1920x1080, and half or lower brightness (the screen is already pretty bright) doing browsing w/ Discord open. USB-A is on the right side of the laptop which may be not optimal to wired mouse users. Price-wise, it is personally not worth the current price until it is on sale but it is very good value for what it can do. I think it is better as a laptop that is for all at once gaming, content, and creation, since you can find better for raw gaming performance. Everything else is fine, screen is color accurate and I believe IPS panel. Write/read SSD speeds are just decent. Windows 11 is wonky but it’s not related to this. It is portable, thin, and an all-rounder with big improvement over the previous iteration.

The previous year's G14 is always my go to laptop. That price cut solidifies it as the best 14 inch Windows laptop. I have owned the 2020 model before, and this has a fairly large increase in performance from the 2020 model, but thats not the main reason i chose this over the 2021 RTX 3060 model that was going for $100 less. This 2022 model adds a web cam, a far superior screen, larger track pad, and 16:10 aspect ratio. The taller screen is a game changer for me. I use this to both game and code on, so that extra vertical spave really helps with productivity work. All in all very happy with this purchase.

very powerful device with high portability

It is a light, powerful and elegant machine. Although the screen size is a little bit small, you will benefit the 16*10 aspect ratio and high resolution display. The machine gets hot when playing AAA games at high quality, but WASD keys are protected from heat and the heat won't be disturbing. One issue is that since usb-c power delivery is only connected to the battery, you won't be delivering the power to the device directly but through the battery, which theoretically decreases the battery life.

Laptop is compact, light, well built, not thick and plasticky like other entry level gaming laptops. It has handled Forza 5 and other games on Xbox live just fine. The screen is good, trackpad is big, and battery life is really goo especially if you use the integrated graphics card. Thr only thing I find it missing is a touch screen, which isn't normally available on gaming laptops but maybe available for content creator laptops but if you go that route, you'd likely need to be content with a more entry point dedicated graphics card.

Great laptop for gaming. It does run hot but you can change some settings in the registry to reduce temps if it is affecting you. The only thing i dislike is the purple “ROG” logo on the back of the laptop. Looks pretty unprofessional if you plan on doing any work with your laptop

This laptop has been really nice and has great specs. It’s compact and weighs very little so it’s easy to take on the go. The screen it really nice with good contrast but does have a little bit of edge bleed in low lit scenes. The colors are really good and vibrant and sometimes I forget I’m not looking at an OLED. So far I’ve not had a game run poorly at medium or higher settings with this little powerhouse. The only drawback I’d say it suffers is it does get very hot while doing anything intensive so maybe don’t play with it in your lap.

It’s a very nice laptop just heats up really quick. The battery life is ok for a gaming laptop. It does take a bit to load up. So far I don’t have any issues with the laptop. As a college student, I think this is the good laptop for this who want to use it for school and to game.

Decent laptop, requires some tweaking to get proper balanced temperatures\performance ratio. Awesome build, feels way better vs 2021 model. Going to AMD side definitely helps with hybrid mode in terms of battery and unwanted DGPU wake up issue. However, this also means some new trickery with AMD Adrenalin software as well as loosing some useful stuff like DLSS. If we ignore gaming side - awesome laptop. the 16:10 display is just amazing. High brightness, awesome DCI-P3 gamut coverage. Perfect aspect ratio for productivity work. The drivers and UEFI is buggy though - after disabling "audio on post" in BIOS the laptop refused to boot for like 5 minutes - just black screen with fans ramping. Hopefully all this will be improved with updates. The success of this model really depends on ASUS taking care of software issues.

More than capable gaming laptop in a small package. I use this for business and gaming conventions, as well as my go-to laptop when I deploy on disaster response operations. It plays my games, it handles my spreadsheets, as well as website and graphics design work. Mind you, when gaming I HIGHLY recommend getting a cooling stand, as those cooling fans will be busy as the GPU spins up. The screen is extremely sharp. I will likely get another one when I wear this one out!

The G14 is a well built nice looking laptop with great performance for its price/specifications. The Moonlight White is better looking than I thought it would be. It would be nice if all the RAM were upgradeable, but for the price that can be overlooked. The MediaTek MT7922 Wireless Adapter could be a lot better. It seems to drop connections more than I like. Still, when Best Buy has this laptop on sale, it is an even greater value than its regular price for its performance and build specifications. If one needs a compact gaming laptop, then the G14 should be on their short list of possible laptop choices.

Screen Stopped Working After 6 Months

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this laptop in March leading up to my start in graduate school. I wanted something that had enough horsepower to allow me to work with large datasets and coding software, and maybe game in my spare time. It was great while it worked. Fast forward to the FIRST DAY my program and the screen stops working. I woke up, had a Zoom call at 9am (which went great), then 5 minutes after the call the screen is just shot. I never dropped the device and I always kept it in a sleeve in my backpack when not in use. I brought it to Geek squad and it's been in their hands for the last 2 weeks, and I still don't know exactly what went wrong. I have now spent my first two weeks of my program behind because this $1200 device decided to just stop working. Maybe this was just a fluke one time problem, but from my experience I can't recommend this device.

Great machine, may be some minor fixable issues

Beautiful screen. Runs most games *fairly* smoothly at native resolution on max settings (I've tried Psychonauts 2, Guardians of the Galaxy, Forza Horizon 2 and Doom Eternal). Reducing from max settings slightly may be necessary for silky smooth framerate for some games. At 1600p (not 4k) this machine seems to be able to just about keep up with an Xbox Series X. I think you get slightly more horsepower out of the bigger ROG G15 for a similar price (double check with Tom's on that cause naturally I haven't tried a G15, just judging by specs). If I was a 100% gamer I'd consider that before this. I have had some issues with going to sleep (possibly overheating, maybe a timeout setting issue?) on super intense games, but I updated the firmware and make an effort to keep it ventilated and it doesn't seem to have a problem anymore. Fantastic portable work / multimedia machine. Great for movies. Great sound. Stunning screen. Ultra fast memory / hard drive. Probably great for video / music production. Nice keyboard. 1600p screen fantastic for productivity. Great for machine learning and data science (Python runs about 1.7 times as fast as my old machine). Beautiful laptop to give a student going into Computer Science, Data Science, Video/Music production, Artificial Intelligence, engineering, 3D Animation or Bioinformatics. Great high end laptop for a gentleman who likes to consume high quality, high resolution movies and wants the best visual experience possible. For a hardcore gamer who's buying this exclusively for games, you might find *slightly* better performing laptops than this one in this price range and would probably be best served in a higher price range. But for a productive student/worker/human who also games, this will play any game out today on pretty high settings well -- you'll be very satisfied.

I needed an upgrade since my last laptop is from 2017. So I did thorough research and it seems that this device will hold on for the next 5-yrs (fingers crossed). Yes the device while gaming gets hot ! - but after finding reviews and trying to make sure. this was a good purchase to use also with AutoCAD or similar platforms. 1TB of storage will do and all other features. I have done gaming with HDMI and I did not see any lag - or bad quality - Recommended despite being a 1-yr old device from time of purchase or a bit more.

The design of this laptop is very sleek. It's the perfect size and has enough power to play any game. That being said, this laptop gets extremely hot very easy and still runs pretty warm even when doing basic tasks. Likes 14" form, beautiful and vibrant screen, can enable/disable the dGPU depending on how you use the laptop, many settings you can tweak if you know here to look online Dislikes Runs way too hot, Armoury Crate is awful, only 1 slot to replace RAM, has ability to utilize USB4 (but seems developers stopped working on it), charging via USB-C is a mess, liquid metal application isn't done the best (was getting BSODs, had to RMA mine -> ASUS tried to blame me for a burn spot)

Great laptop for my content creation needs. Plays all the latest games. Biggest concern is it gets pretty hot. No biggie since its on a stand away from me. I use it like a desktop but if I was to use it normally and game on, I would definitely invest in a cooling pad.

Enjoying the laptop, much lighter than the one i was using previously and has much better battery life. i upgraded to a 4tb nvme and it was easy to take the back cover off and replace. the only have 3 cons thus far. the first is windows 11 still feels a little clunky but that's on windows and not ASUS. the second is the wifi card installed is not that great and i imagine a lot of people may end up replacing it themselves. The third is the video resolution gets a little blurry when using the laptop without the charger.

I’ve owned it for about a month now and I’m loving it! I’m glade I purchased it, it plays games like Destiny 2 and DCS World just fine (medium graphics) no choppy frames so far. I also edit pictures on it using Captureone software, the display on this laptop looks amazing when editing photos and the colors are pretty accurate. Not the best laptop for Gaming, do to heat and fan noise that is common on every laptop but it’s very capable. It’s perfect for the price. Got mine for $999. 6700H Ryzen 9.
