I really, really, wanted to like this laptop
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I would by no means describe myself as a serious gamer or anything, but I wanted something sleek & fast that could handle a bit of stress without completely breaking the bank. A decent laptop was out of my budget for several years after my macbook died and, having only used mac computers in the past, I put in some serious consideration before making a large purchase outside of my wheelhouse. I read or watched every review I could find, and compared it against several other laptops with comparative specs, weighed all the pros & cons and chose this model - and though it was above the budget I was initially considering, I was confident in thinking I had found a good match and was investing in a sleek, hard-working, reliable laptop. I was wrong. Within the first few days of owning it, I realized the keyboard was malfunctioning. Most keys didn't work, and the space key made the "z" repeat indefinitely to the point where the laptop became unusable. Seeing as it was brand new, it was still covered under warranty, so I took it to Best Buy where the Geek Squad determined it was a manufacturing error and replaced the faulty keyboard. Mistakes happen - but they fixed it and everything was good now, right? Again, wrong. Sure, it functioned as expected for a while after that (we can call these the Golden Months); it was everything I had hoped for. Quick start up, no problem smoothly running high-demand games, or having multiple designs programs open simultaneously. Yes, it got pretty warm at times but nothing crazy, and with the right settings and a good laptop stand the temperature was totally manageable. At this point you could've considered me a happy customer. But a few months later (and importantly - just after it fell out of warranty coverage), it started falling asleep while actively being used, despite sleep/power/battery settings. Then falling asleep and needing to reboot to wake up. A few days later, pushing power only gets it stuck in a boot loop. Then it barely starts up at all, *maybe* getting to the Asus logo, or seeing the keyboard LEDs flash before turning off entirely and -only- if you havent tried to start it up in a while. After looking up if other users with this model were having similar problems recently, I found several that presumed a bad update was to blame, and to reboot using a technique that went over my current skill-set. I took it to my local, reputable repair shop, explained the symptoms and what I'd read lately from others online, and after taking a look they agreed that a bad update seemed plausible. They took it in to fix, and two days ago I got the call. They did everything they could, and for the first two minutes after the repair the computer worked perfectly - right up until it shut off and became completely non-responsive. The battery, display and charger were all tested and found to be in perfect working order. They asked if I wanted them to keep working on my device, but also cautioned that after parts & labor - finding and fixing the problem might be equal to the cost of a new laptop. It's been a long, expensive year, and fixing my relatively new laptop is not in the budget at the moment - so they backed up my data on a ssd and returned everything to me. So now, instead of enjoying my day off, maybe playing a game or otherwise enjoying use of what I thought would be my pricey-for-me-but-worth-it-longterm and not to mention fairly new, laptop - I'm sitting here on my phone, in my kitchen, writing a short essay on how disappointed I am in this product. She was beauty, she was grace, now she's a costly, white brick that's taking up space. (There's a saying that a happy customer might tell five people, but an unhappy customer will tell ten. I suppose this covers my five.)

Best laptop i've owned!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just received it yesterday! Thing thing is amazing! It runs everything I have thrown at it flawlessly! As far as the "heat issue" goes it hasn't been a concern of mine. The laptop does get hot but I have a 7700k in my desktop that runs just as hot if not even hotter. Like I said I haven't had any issue with it and when I actually game on it I have it on a desk with plenty ventilation. The keys feel great to type on and the large touch pad just feels right. The only issue I can see being legitimate is the heat, but like i said I haven't had any issue with it yet. I would also assume asus will be updating drivers to fix the heating issue some people are having. IMO this is a definite must buy if you are looking for something that you can use as an all around do everything laptop in this size category and budget! (maybe even wait a month or two and who knows if it'll go on sale)

ASUS/AMD Ryzen FTW
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this for my son who's both a gamer and a developer. It gives him all the processing power and gaming capabilities he needs to be successful. I had never purchased an ASUS computer or one with an AMD processor, but it's just as good/better than the brands I've always trusted.

Would be 5 if not for armour crate
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Like it a lot, but the armor crate software is wonky and you can't really live without it.

Good bang for the buck.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Affordable and high performing laptop. Would recommend. Has performance modes. Does get pretty toasty though so would not use on your lap unless you want to cook some eggs and sausage or have a fish fry. Odd resolution though for the built in screen.

Works great
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife was tired of slower laptops , but she also wanted one that's not too big. She figured if the laptop was fast enough for gaming, it should be good for her also. With 14" the laptop is still compact while packing a lot of power. So far she's really happy with it.

Stay away
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this laptop and a tuf 15. Absolutely fell in love with the Rog g14. I'm moving out of the country so I was looking for a small powerful and portable package. I ended up returning my tuf laptop and keeping this one. Screen was defective within two days showing a strange white haze. I brought it to best buy and since it was an open box I was basically told that I can purchase a new one at the new price that's 600 dollars more than before... no thanks. I just wanted a decent replacement to my open box. I feel screwed by best buy as no one was even trying to help me.

Great perfomance but poor heat management
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The specs are great on the laptop and the performance for the size is also great. But it runs hot to point where you really can't keep it on your lap. The keyboard background lights were also an issue in that I found they were dim to use in low light.

Posted .Dear Valued Customer,
We're sorry to hear that your unit is running hot. This is not the quality of service expected from ASUS. Please allow us to make your experience with ASUS a better one. For adequate airflow it is recommended to use your device on a hard, flat surface (like a table or desk) rather than a soft surface (like a couch, pillow, bed, or your lap). Try pressing your FN+F3 Key that should help in increasing the brightness for the backlit keyboard.

5/5 Great laptop, good price
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's amazing. Had an issue with a whining sound at the beginning, but it went away and hasn't come back in months. I've read mixed reviews of the laptop, so I'm not sure how good quality control is, but mine is fantastic. Super happy.

Good bones, lazy on the details
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. To start: This is a fantastic laptop. I'll go into detail about what I like at the end, but I'll start with the bad points. This laptop uses a Mediatek WiFi/Bluetooth card. When it's working, this isn't a problem. However, every few weeks the card loses its brain and you have to hard reset the laptop (shut down, unplug, hold power button for 30s) to get it working normally again. All this can be solved by replacing the WiFi card with an Intel card for $20, so I am disappointed that Asus shipped the laptop with these problems when the solution is so cheap. The handling of the dedicated GPU is hairy in Windows. I have a USB-attached (DisplayLink) monitor, so it doesn't use any of the display outputs. Nevertheless, Armory Crate forces my system to use Hybrid graphics mode. This is frustrating, because I want my system to be silent, but having the 6700S turned on usually turns this laptop into a fireball. I would accept this behavior if a monitor were plugged into one of the video ports which is connected to the dGPU but the actual behavior is just lazy. This is only a problem in Windows, not a problem in Linux since Armory Crate doesn't exist. This laptop has one USB-C port which supports power delivery (left side). I am firstly a bit bummed that it doesn't support PD on the right side for flexibility of desk layout. However, the big bummer is that the laptop *always* uses the battery while plugged in with USB-C. I mean ALWAYS. Browsing the web, checking email, sitting at the desktop, or doing anything with the dGPU disabled all take less than the 100W limit of USB-PD, and will all of those activities you'll see the battery constantly getting discharged about 3%, then filling back up. Again, this is just lazy. This behavior doesn't happen if charging with the barrel connector, but it means you can't live the one-cable dream. A word on Linux support: Asus laptops run reasonably well with Linux. However, as far as I am away, that support is all community-driven. It is broken of Asus to leave things that way. As of this writing (Kernel 5.18+), there is a bug in the amdgpu driver which causes the video to crash unpredictably. That said, most of the hardware works correctly. Having touted its flaws, I will say that I still like this laptop. I won't go into details here because plenty of reviews online already cover the good points. I love that the RAM upgrades to 40GB. The CPU is amazingly fast, and even with the dGPU disabled the laptop is super capable. I'm intrigued by the feature to be able to limit battery charge capacity to extend its service life. Battery life is amazing, with 5-6W of power draw I'm seeing 10+ hours of battery life with light load.
