Hot, Loud and Sleek. Needs Refinement

I returned my purchase based on these criteria: 1. The surface of the laptop (palm rest) got uncomfortable after about 15 minutes in-game. 2. The trackpad was very loose. 3. At least 1/2 a dozen BSODs in a row after updating drivers. 4. Extremely prevalent coil whine under low-medium load. Why would I give it 3 stars? I would say it's more like 2.5 stars, BUT maybe if you got something with a tighter trackpad and no/less coil whine it would be worth keeping. It's a sleek and solid machine that has an excellent and crisp display. The keyboard is great the trackpad is silky smooth, but this is a "V1" type of hardware configuration and drivers are definitely lacking (usual AMD stuff). Some games ran ok for the most part, but Elden Ring wouldn't even break 40 FPS on 1080p at medium settings. Super low GPU utilization. Want this thing? Wait for some driver maturity and roll the dice on a non-faulty trackpad unit. I can't handle the palm rest heat and coil whine though, this will be a hard pass for me.

It's unfortunate to hear that you return the notebook because of multiply issues. I bought this to for college (I'm majoring in Interior Design) and has been wonderful so far. It runs AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, and Adobe smoothly. I didn't had any problems to install them either. The resolution is amazing and it's not that heavy to carry around.

Laptop has been extremely flexible for all situations ive needed. I brought it on a vacation, hooked it up to my TV, and my monitors, otherwise I can just use it in bed. Its got the power to play any game I want basically on ultra settings. This was a great investment for me and my future enjoyment

let me start saying that I like the ASUS - ROG Zephyrus 14" line. I bought one from BestBuy in December 2021, also at a discounted price, as it is on sale right now. it has ONE major flaw, which might be more relevant to some, less to others: the power supply connectors seemingly "wear out" (I know they don't "wear ot", they just stop working) and since both (the normal, old fashioned round one and also the USB-C power input) are on the motherboard one has to exchange the whoel motherboard, sending it in, etc. and that takes time, even when on warranty, as it happened to me in august 2022, when I found myself on a several-weeks trip in canada with a dead weight of a laptop, with all my data on it. once the battery runs out, it runs out... the Asus Zephyrus 14 became unusable as it was not chargeable. I had it repaired thru bestbuy (where I bought it, nd repaired thru geek squad), which took 2 or 3 weeks - after I had returned from that trip. so the motherboard was exchanged (free on warranty, except for the hassle and all the time not having the laptop), now, not even 6 months later in march 2023 I am having the exact same problem for the SECOND TIME on the new motherboard. not only makes it the laptop unusable again, now I am out of warranty. I emailed ASUS america if I might be IN warranty for the replacement motherboard... but they haven't even replied. so, coming back to the first thoughts: I love the Asus Zephyrus 14 when it works - and loathe it when it doesn't. plus I would expect a bit better customer service / tech support from such a big company like Asus.

Exactly what I was looking for. I needed a computer for recording on Ableton. Never no lag, no random crashes, and or overheating. Way more impressed than I thought. Only thing is the battery life is really bad, you basically have to keep it plugged in whenever running big programs. Other than that, 10/10.

At a time of purchase, which is over the year form the time I am writing this short review, I would say G14 is the best overall PC laptop looking at price/performance. Can be charged over USB c, portable, great power and combination AMD CPU and GPU. I would say first gaming laptop that is not too loud. Was able to produce even 4k gaming at decent speed. Months later I decided to go to bigger screen laptops and do not look back to this 14 in marvel.

I recently purchased an ASUS ROG Zephyrus 14 laptop and while it looks great and runs fast, I've been disappointed with its battery life and overheating issues. The battery life is much shorter than I expected and it tends to overheat when I'm using it, even for short periods of time. This can be really annoying and inconvenient. Overall, I'm not overly impressed with this laptop and would not recommend it to others.

      Dear GeorgeT,

We are sorry to hear about the unfortunate experience you are having with the battery and the unit overheating. There's a possibility that there are background apps and Windows updates causing the unit to perform as it does. What we've observed with the Windows 10 operating system is that once the unit is not being used all background and installed apps including Windows updates will fire up. We would recommend that you check for and install updates. This will cause the unit to run a bit hotter than normal and in turn ramp up the fan speed. We would recommend that the user check for and install all updates for all installed applications. Multiple restarts are recommended to ensure all updates are installed. For more information send us an email at customerloyalty@asus.com and provide the link of this review for reference. We’ll do our best to provide a quick resolution to your case. Your feedback is important as it helps with improvements to ASUS Support channels.

This is a phenomenal gaming laptop. The performance is outstanding for the price. Especially if you get on sale. My only complaint would be with Windows and how it plays with AMD. It is constantly trying to update the display drivers which is annoying as it breaks the Adrenalin Software from AMD. You have to then reinstall the drivers from AMD...Which is easy enough, but annoying. I'm not sure why Microsoft felt the need to add the service... Like whom asked for it? I was quite happy updating my own drivers when necessary. Other than that, it's design, performance and value are hard to beat... This is my first AMD machine and I'm pretty happy with it so far. The screen is just fantastic and looks beautiful. Grab it now while it's on sale!

I bought this laptop on a whim because it was on sale and I had a low budget, but I should have just saved my money and waited to purchase a more powerful pc. I was looking for a lightweight laptop that was powerful enough to create good quality renders for architecture school. Because I game as well on occasion, I went with a gaming laptop with good specs so I could do both. Unfortunately, this laptop did neither. For starters, this laptop is barely functional when it’s not plugged in. Everything is slow, and the battery drains quickly. When it is plugged in and I do anything that is visually demanding, the surface of the laptop turns into the surface of the sun. I cant leave my hand on the keyboard longer than 20 seconds at a time without burning myself, and the side of the laptop emits so much hot air that I can’t use my mouse either. To summarize, the laptop is sleek and light, the display is alright, but it isn’t very powerful, turns extremely hot, and not as high quality as I expected for the original price point. I would advise you save an extra $100-200 for a much better pc.

      Dear M1419,

We do understand your disappointment if the laptop is slow and your concern about thermal issues.

If you are experiencing slow speed or system performance, please check if Windows and onboard device drivers are up to date. Keeping Windows updated will maintain optimum system stability and performance.

If these steps were already performed to no avail, please try to run a diagnostics or optimization test using the "My ASUS" utility software or application. If this is not pre-installed on the laptop, please download the application at the Microsoft Store. For details on how to use "My ASUS", please go to: https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1041686/. While accessing web applications, please make sure the unit has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since this will definitely affect system speed and performance. Also, clearing internet cache or browsing history will improve system performance. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and I would be happy to help. Or, you can speak to an ASUS live support agent 24/7 at http://bit.ly/AsusLiveChat.

It is normal for the laptop, with the same hardware configuration and regardless of the manufacturer, to generate more heat than normal while under heavy load especially during gaming, WINDOWS Update and antivirus scan. When system resource utilization is high, this will generate more heat than normal and tends to trigger the fan to spin at full-throttle. Please ensure the air ventilations are free from obstructions in order to have an efficient air flow for better heat dissipation. While gaming, please ensure no resource hungry applications are running in the background, this will definitely spike the temperature. The heat or temperature does decreases or normalizes once system resource utilization goes down.

Should you need further assistance with the product, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and I would be more than happy to help. Or, you are most welcome to call Product Support Hotline at: 1(888) 678-3688. Also, you can chat with an ASUS live support agent from the link: https://www.asus.com/us/support/article/1135/.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

Best Buy did it again, true to store name and reputation, it made this much awaiting laptop available for unbeatable price. Laptop arrived fast in 3 days. Though it says gaming , it was not my primary purpose for buying this ASUS ROG laptop. My son is graphics, animation, 3D modelling enthusiastic. He chose this laptop and tested regorously for cpu, memory intensive applications. So far he is very happy with the results and couting on the same. Laptop has its unique stylish look and feel. It is packed with all the ports except ethernet (which can be taken care by aditional usb to ethernet adapter from market). When using highest resolution, there is tradeoff between battery consumption which is again expected. What I saw is, after intial few power cycles battery performs better and outside heating is also under minimal. I wish it has 32Gb RAM for my future needs Net net perfect laptop with latest configuration ( Ryzen 9, Radeon RX 6700, 1TB SSD) I defintely recommend buying this laptop
