Great all-around compact gaming laptop!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're looking for a portable laptop with strong gaming capabilities without breaking the bank, this laptop is for you. Keyboard is comfortable and I've been able to adjust quickly to it. I have a 2008 Macbook Pro, 2012 Macbook Air, 2020 Macbook Pro 13", 2016 Alienware laptop and in terms of typing, it's far better than the 2012 Macbook Pro, competitive with the 2020 Macbook Pro but worse than my old 2008 Macbook Pro and 2016 15" Alienware laptop. It's a solid typer and if you're a student, you shouldn't have any problems being productive with it. RGB lighting is present and customizable with various presets/options in ASUS's own software. Trackpad is a clear plastic top. It's large for a laptop in this class. Left and right click are in the bottom left and right hand corner of the trackpad respectively. Clicking is firm and clicky. Gestures work well. Palm rejection is effective. It's not Macbook Pro-class, but there are certainly worse. If you plan to game though, use a mouse. Screen is uniform and bright. It's not a touchscreen (a plus for me). Max brightness in doors is probably not necessary for most. Windows Hello support with the webcam works well, provided lighting is adequate. There is no fingerprint reader for logging in. Battery is decent. It will sip on the integrated graphics for web browsing and videos. If you're in school, getting through a few classes on 1 charge shouldn't be an issue. Do not expect this to be a champ at battery life though. It is a gaming laptop and does prioritize that. But tweaking the battery settings can lengthen life without sacrificing much performance for basic school/classroom tasks. You can also charge (I believe up to 100W) with USB-C with the USB-C port on the same side as the barrel plug. This allows you to keep a more compact charger with you on the go that can be used for dual purposes (ie charging anything not-an-iphone) while keeping the chonky boi in one place where maximum performance/power can be delivered. It's only "downside" is that it can definitely get warm in higher performance modes and the fans will definitely kick in during gaming. It doesn't sound like an Apache helicopter, but you may want headphones on if you don't want the immersion ruined by noise. Also, you may have to jump through some hoops to get encryption to work. Some DMA devices are seen as being "unallowed" and will need manual adding to the whitelist. Seems to be a common annoyance with Windows. If you want a laptop with good gaming performance in a compact form factor that sits between a 13 and 15" macbook pro while smaller than many other gaming laptops without breaking the bank, you won't be disappointed. If you're expecting to play modern AAA titles at high/max settings, temper your expectations, this form factor and the 6700S GPU will get you good visuals, but not the best.

Im a fan
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far I am pretty impressed. Been playing Elden Ring @ 1920 X 1200 Medium and it looks amazing and performs really well. I actually don't have any of the frame drops or lag that I'm getting on a 5900/3080 Desktop. Fit is great, feel is great, keyboard is great, trackpad is great. All in all I think its a pretty easy recommend if you want something ultra portable that can run games at medium (which may as well be 4K on 14" screen). I really don't love the position of the barrel plug or ports otherwise could have been 5 stars.

A “Crash” Landing (buh dum psh)
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s fine, performs well enough but I had to call Asus support due to an issue where it kept crashing while playing games or streaming. It is currently running much better, though it does still suffer the occasional crash. I expected more for this price.

Well rounded with compromises
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Super cool if you want one machine for work, personal use and gaming. But, the machine is a compromise from every perspective: heavier and thicker than other 14” business and personal laptops. It can’t quite perform as well as a 15” gaming laptop. The battery life is good, only if you baby it. Still, super cool.

Good laptop for the money
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I order this one to replace my 2019 Blade 15 cuz I have a desktop and want a more portable laptop to carry around and do home work (I dont use my gaming desktop for home work). First impression is battery is VERY SOLID. Battery was 99% at 8:07 pm, now as of this review, its 12:20 am and its at 63% (that is after all the Windows updates installed, Im sure it will be like 75% to 80% in normal use). Screen is brighter than the Blade, very happy with the 2k resolution and 120hz, speaker is louder too. I wont b using this for gaming, but maybe occasionally to exercise the GPU. Overall good price for the quality.

Nice laptop, but I got a lemon
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Amazing laptop, but ended up getting a defective unit, laptop screen doesn't power off when the lid is closed and the built in camera doesn't work. Everything else works fine, battery life last longer than expected.

Posted .Dear Newbox,
We are sorry to hear that you are having issues with the unit overheating. There's a possibility that there are background apps and Windows updates causing the unit to perform as it does. What we've observed with the Windows 10 operating system is that once the unit is not being used all background and installed apps including Windows updates will fire up. We would recommend that you check for and install updates. This will cause the unit to run a bit hotter than normal and in turn ramp up the fan speed. We would recommend that the user check for and install all updates for all installed applications. Multiple restarts are recommended to ensure all updates are installed. Nice laptop - let down by Best Buy
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased an "Open Box - Excellent" model that turned out to have a few minor defects (buzzing speaker, cooling system needed to have the thermal compound replaced). I brought it back to the store hoping to exchange it, but was told I would need need to pay a higher price (even if I was exchanging it for another open box model) since the laptop was no longer on sale. Seems like a poorly designed point of sale system if it can't allow for an in-policy (15 days) equal exchange. Manager told me there was nothing he could do and that I should call 1-888-BESTBUY. I called, and they told me there was nothing they could do and that I should go back to the store. Ended up returning the laptop because no one could figure out how to process an exchange. Shame, because it's a nice laptop. Best Buy needs to update their point of sale software.

Don't buy this.
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The laptop games, and it does it well. Here is the problem, It is so ludicrously hot and I just don't just mean while gaming. This this is smoldering hot at all teams even when just while sitting on the desktop with nothing running. Do yourself a favor and find something with better cooling. Even though this laptop uses liquid metal it for some reason has serious issues dissipating the heat.

Almost
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's very nice when it works. The build quality is not in question. But there are little sounds. Operational hiccups. Blue screens. Radio drop-outs. Waking and running hot issues. I'm just glad I got it on a deal or I'd feel probably feel poorly about it.

Windows Sucks
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s a good laptop that I use for my CAD softwares. The downside is the fact that when I do a shut down, it doesn’t shut down. It’s still “on.” One time when I arrived to work, my backpack got extremely hot and the battery was dried. It turns out that the laptop was still on even though I did a shut down. This issue can be fixed with some help from the internet, but it makes the startup slower.
