Second ASUS Laptop. New and Improved! Love it!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an awesome gaming laptop. It comes preloaded with Microsoft's newest operating system which is Windows 11. I have been a fan of the Asus line and I already own ASUS - ROG Zephyrus Advantage Edition 14” 120Hz Gaming Laptop – AMD Ryzen 9- 6900HS – 16GB Memory – Radeon RX 6700S – 1TB SSD. Naturally when setting up a new laptop, there were several Microsoft updates which needed to be installed. I also had to update the BIOS of this system during the set-up process. Speaker sound was great for a laptop computer. The product doesn't come with a DVD/CD slot, meaning that all of the games and music will need to be downloaded. No biggie, as the system is blinding fast and has a 1 terabyte hard drive. Plenty of available space for many games of your choosing. After downloading some of my favorite games I put this laptop through its paces. Admittedly I am not a hardcore gamer (just average), but I experienced no issues. Screen colors were very good, there was no screen tearing (even at most of "my preferred" settings), FPS were pushed (not maxed), and the overall visual quality was excellent. The Asus model has a backlit keyboard. Personally, I love keyboards which have this option as I always find myself working in a dimly lit room or no light at all. The overall feel of the keyboard was nice and responsive. The trackpad was of good size and response to finger movements was excellent. This laptop comes with a built-in webcam so you can Skype or Facetime your friends and family. The webcam was OK but not stellar. A word on operating temperature. This unit does run a little on the warm/hot side, so I would recommend that during use you should avoid resting it on soft surface such as a coach, as you would want the unit to be able to cool properly. I have seen lots of comments concerning this, but the operating temperature is normal as per the manufacturer. A good part of the laptop's underside has a grid. This grid aides in the cooldown process. The screen is hinged in such a way that the bottom part of the screen protrudes down past the base of the laptop. There is no doubt in my mind that this engineering was meant to elevate the unit so that more air circulates under the laptop. The performance of this laptop when multi-taking was a breeze for this product. There was no noticeable bog down and it handled like a super expensive model. Boot-up time is fast, as this product has a solid-state drive. The launching and opening of programs literally happens in a blink of an eye as compared to the "older" SATA drives. This ASUS powers your games with the latest AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS CPU. 8 cores and 16 threads and easily handles the latest AAA games on the market. Smart Shift and Smart Access technology allows for boosts performance of this laptop. As per the manufacturer, "this unit has a ROG Nebula Display which is touted as a new and is pretty standard in gaming displays. ROG Nebula Displays guarantees minimum brightness, color representation, refresh rates and response times". It also has a MUX Switch (for Direct GPU Mode) which reduces latency (delay of data transfer) and boost performance by an average of 9%." Pros: Web Cam (even though it's not top of the line, 120Hz display, nice speakers, eye catching white color design and a decent responsive keyboard. Cons: No CD/DVD drive I'm not going to go into details with FPS on my games, but on some of my newer games, I had to throttle back on some extreme settings. This was of no consequence for me, as I usually don't play at maxed out settings. The Asus ROG laptop produced superb performance for my gaming programs and setting preferences. It's lightweight, has a decent battery life (I personally keep my screen brightness at the second lowest position) and most of my settings are not maxed out. I'm definitely enjoying this product and so far. I'm a very happy camper!

Tons of backlight bleed
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my fifth unit, previous four were the 6700s, and all of them had unacceptable backlight bleed thad could be seen with lights on. It was always on the same spot - lower left hand side - and always took up a 1/4 of the screen. Made the laptop unusable. Must be a manufscturing defect.

A gaming laptop that performs AND looks good?!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Back on the road for work, I am always eager to find a versatile gaming laptop, and I wanted to try the Ryzen 9 and see what I could do with a faster processor and better GPU on my current laptop. Unboxing: Yes, I’m one of those nerds who watches unboxing videos, and the ROG unboxing experience is pretty sweet. The laptop sits on a platform that raises up when you open the lid and the clean moonlight laptop presents itself with the halleluia chorus angels singing in the background. Physical Appearance: This laptop is a beauty! As apposed to other gaming laptops I’ve tried that have a composite case that feels cheap, this ROG feels premium. Something about the moonlight color really sets it apart. Why buy a black plastic shell when you can rock Moonlight White!? The outside of the lit is a tease with the perforations - I almost thought for a moment that I actually got the AniMe display, but alas, this model did not include it. Overall a beautiful looking PC built very well. Not ultrabook thin, but the tapering of the edges and venting helps it from feeling bulky. Gaming: Of course I was excited to play a couple of my favorite games of late. I was blown away with how smooth the gameplay on Madden 23 was smooth and buttery with no lag in offline or online modes. Battlefield 2042 lead-times were quick and I’m excited to hook it up to my external monitors to start camping and sniping! The FPS was generally 60-90 during gameplay and everything looked crisp vibrant on the WQXGA display. On my previous laptop some of the game play lags from time to time and so far I haven't noticed any of that. Speakers are definitely improved from my last laptop and LOUD! Normally I use headphones, but I’m really liking the sound from this machine. The fans do get fairly loud but they didn’t come on as often as other gaming laptops I’ve used. I’m somewhat sensitive to fan noise and I was pretty impressed with how efficient the Ryzen 9 ran. The GPU did seem to max out during gameplay but I’d often notice the CPU at less than 5%. Since I’ll be using this laptop for work I did attempt some basic Office tasks in between gaming sessions and I was surprised by how much I LOVE the trackpad! The glass trackpad is probably the smoothest and most responsive that I’ve ever used on a PC. Many, MANY, years ago I bought my first Mac specifically for the trackpad, and this ROG matches in every way. I do also love the keyboard, but that’s no surprise. They’re well spaced and have a very satisfying travel. Benchmarks on Novabench consistently hit over 4350 and while there may be gaming laptops with better results - you’re going to spend an arm and a leg. I am so happy with pretty much everything. I'm still not a ban of barrel power adapters and I would love to see ASUS and other PC manufactures use USB-C for faster charging. It does work with the USB-C port but a message pops up and lets me know that charging this method will be slower and may not keep up with actual use. The ports are plentiful enough, but having them in the middle of the sides make for awkward cables cluttering up my desktop. Conclusion - If you're looking for an awesome gaming laptop that's solid and classy then this is a great option and should be under consideration!

The box was opened, even the stamps and I don't like to spend so much money to feel that someone else already used something for which I paid supposedly new not used. You are not supposed to spend money on something that has apparently already been used.

If you tilt it the gpu fan will click and ping.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall the performance of this laptop is great. The huge problem with this laptop however is the clicking and pinging noises that happen in both fans. The gpu fan makes these sounds much more often and primarily happens when the laptop is tilted, (as in your lap for example). I tried to love this thing but I am a programmer and not a gamer and bought this unit in case I ever had time to download a game to play and was out of town. I can't stand this sound and if you are like me, where the slightest imperfection or random noise prevents you from concentrating fully, I don't recommend this product. If you are going to have on noise cancelling headphones at all times, then sure go ahead. It is my understanding that only this particular version of the 14" model has this problem but you can and should Google this issue before purchasing.

ABSOLUTE MUST!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will be starting this review with the packaging. Packaging can be very plain and boring. However, ASUS has stepped up the game on packaging. The box is aesthetically pleasing, modern, and sleek! As you open the lid the box tilts the computer upward and this aha moment! The heft of the computer is tolerable, the design is seamless and flawless, but most importantly the functionality in gaming capabilities is beyond expectations. The battery holds fairly well on its own, however being plugged into a power source is a must if gaming. The graphics is impeccable, and the processors are so fast and smooth which allows you to totally immerse yourself into the game. The refresh rate on the screen is amazing at 120 Hz. One important note is the charge time. From almost a dead battery to fully charged only took a couple of hours, if that. I also used this computer for every day tasks just to check its functionality and it passed with flying colors. If you were looking for a very versatile computer I would highly recommend the Zephyrus.

I love this laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ASUS ROG Zephryus14 is an awesome gaming laptop. The laptop has a WQXGA display with options for 60hz or 120hz, which makes games and video on screen fast and snappy. It has 1Tb of SSD memory which is a great amount of storage for a gaming laptop and 16gb ram so you should be able to work or play on the laptop with ease. The keyboard is backlit RGB so it looks cool. My favorite feature is Dolby Access which has Dolby Atmos and Vision controls for the laptop, and will be what gives you amazing colors and surround sound, try out the demos and you'll see just how great this feature is and what will work best for your gaming experience. The biggest feature is the AMD CPU and GPU. The AMD Ryzen9 6900HS is powerful and will handle whatever you through at it, it is comparable to Intel's i7 12650. The GPU is an AMD 6800s which is great for gaming while also being a leaner option saving you battery life, it is comparable to a 3070ti. It has held up great and runs smoothly on all of my games. The only issue I have with the laptop is that it gets pretty hot, which is normal to hear with gaming laptops, but I've had other brands and previous gen Zephyrus' and this model is definitely one of the hotter ones I've owned. I think this issue came from ASUS fixing the fans running loudly in previous models, I remember my last ASUS sounded like a jet taking off, but this model is super quiet so the heat buildup is faster. Overall, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus14 is an awesome gaming laptop and one that I would recommend.

A beautiful beast.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Asus Zephyrus G14 is a powerhouse that can handle even the most extreme games. Asus went all out when designing this one, it has just about everything a hard-core gamer would need in a gaming laptop. The G14 looks Gorgeous, the white laptop has a pearl look to it which makes it sparkle. The top of the laptop has a nice, polished aluminum indented stripe at the top, which really gives it a premium look. To put it bluntly, this is one of the nicest looking laptops I’ve ever seen. The G14 is now equipped with the new AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS, 8 core CPU, with a processor speed of 3.29Ghz. It handles multitasking like a champ, but where this new CPU really shines is gaming. Combined with the Radeon RX 6800S graphics card with 8gb DDR6, I was able to play any game I threw at it without any issues whatsoever. This really impressed me, considering that the laptop isn’t very big at all, but it packs the power of a desktop. The 16gb of DDR5 ram has a big part to play in the outstanding performance. Considering how powerful the G14 is, the fans don’t make that much noise at all. In fact, I could barely hear them even when they were at full blast. That being said, the laptop does get hot when running intense games, so I wouldn’t play with this in your lap. The screen is beautiful, the colors are very bright, and the image is crisp and detailed. The display has a resolution of 2560x1600 and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The 16:10 screen ratio gives you a little extra viewing angle than the traditional 16:9, which works well on this 14” display. Gaming on this display has been great. The 120hz refresh rate makes the motion feel smooth and gives a much better experience than standard 60hz screens, especially when playing FPS. The G14 is loaded with some of the latest features, including Wi-Fi 6E. This is the latest Wi-Fi band, and it delivers incredibly fast download speeds. It took me less than 20 minutes to download the new MW2. The faster Wi-Fi has also made my online gaming much more enjoyable. Another feature is the speakers, this is loaded with 4 Spatial Sound Dolby Atmos speakers. There are 2 tweeters located at the top, and there’s 2 bass speakers located underneath the bottom of the laptop. The sound quality is decent, the only thing I would say is lacking is the bass. Mids and highs are clear and sound good when watching movies or gaming, and the Dolby Atmos gives that virtual surround sound feel to it. As for my experience using the G14…I wanted to fully test the laptop to its limits, so I downloaded some of the latest graphically intense games. I first tried out the new MW2 to see how well this would run, and I’m happy to say that it ran great. I had no screen tearing, no stuttering or lag at all. It ran very smooth, and it looked incredible. I played the game for a total of 10 hours so far, and not once have I encountered any issues of crashing due to memory issues or overheating. I also tried out a few other games, and they all worked great. Overall, I would say that Asus really knocked it out of the park with the Zephyrus G14. It looks like a piece of art, and it runs like a dream. It has all the latest features you can ask for, like Wi-Fi 6e, Dolby Atmos speakers, and a beautiful 2560x1600 display with a 120hz refresh rate. I am really impressed at how well its able to handle even the most intense games and run them really smooth. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a new gaming laptop.

Lightweight, good battery life,
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first AMD laptop. All the rest have had Intel CPUs. Most have run Windows, though I have also been forced to use a couple of Mac laptops at work (with Intel processors). I was attracted to the light weight and slim profile of this laptop - my previous laptop was an Alienware m15 R4 beast that weighs over seven pounds (with power brick) and it's really a desktop replacement. This weights less than half that. I wanted portability yet I still wanted to be able to do light gaming (e.g. Assassin's Creed, No Man's Sky, Kerbal Space Program, etc.). I also wanted reasonable battery life (the Alienware can run for maybe an hour and a half on battery), but I've run this for over six hours on battery and still had some left. Good enough for coast to coast flights.. The Asus ROG Zephyrus is a winner. There are a lot of nice touches that may not be obvious from the writeups. When you open the case, the screen hinges in such a way that the keyboard is placed at a slight angle which facilitates typing and allows for better airflow. The backlit keys have a nice tactile touch. The screen is bright and the colors look very accurate. I like the size of the track pad as well. The only negative is that as I was updating to 11R2, I got a message that the update had overwritten the graphics device driver. I had to pause updates and quickly download the proper driver from the ASUS website. There were no other issues with getting it ready to use. The CPU seems quite fast, the graphics processor is adequate. Bottom line, this is a nice portable laptop for medium performance gaming.

Balancing Power & Portability
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a beautiful machine. Keys are responsive, trackpad is smooth and accurate, and the CPU/GPU combination is awesome. With NVMe prices down, I immediately swapped out the drive for a faster Samsung 980Pro 2TB. Expensive machine though, without the massive discount BestBuy was offering, I would never have considered buying it.
