Customers often highlight the excellent performance, impressive build quality, and long battery life of the ROG Zephyrus 15.6" QHD Gaming Laptop. Many also praise its powerful GPU, lightweight design, and vibrant display, along with the keyboard. However, some users mention that the laptop can get hot, and the fan noise can be noticeable. Other criticisms include the soldered RAM, less-than-stellar speakers, and the absence of a built-in webcam.

Lots of power, performance while still having decent battery life and weight. My PC died so I needed a desktop replacement while I sourced out parts for a new build, but I also wanted something that wouldn't be too burdensome to take with me on trips. This checks all the boxes. Was a bit worried about fan hardware issues because of my experience with the 2020 Zephryus G14, which I had to return, but no signs of that yet. There is a quirk with the built-in speakers where it sounds like farting noises at certain bass frequencies, but since I use external headphones and speakers, it's a non-issue for me.

Great Laptop With a Few Issues

Pros: -Amazing screen. -Great value (You don't need a 30 series GPU to play in 1080p...) -Fingerprint scanner works great for me. Cons: -Upgrading the SSD was very hard. The screw in the slot is insanely tight. I had to use vise grips to get it unscrewed, pliers did not work. Beware if you are planning on upgrading the storage, Asus makes you work for it. -No webcam -soldered RAM

The laptop has amazing performance. I have never experienced any issues running graphics-intensive PC games. I did have an issue with 4 pixels burning out about 8 months after buying the laptop but it was covered under warranty. The laptop also gets above 90 degrees celsius when playing hardcore games unless you have a laptop cooling pad. The last issue I have is that for some reason this model # is not eligible for the ASUS extended 3-year warranty which makes me a little suspicious. Overall great gaming laptop but hopefully it holds up for a few more years.

I'm a college student, and for the two years I've had this laptop, it has not messed up on me once. I find it to be very reliable when it comes to its battery life, especially when you set it to quiet mode. When it came to gaming, there wasn't a game that it couldn't run. The only downside is that I got one dead pixel, but besides that, This laptop has been great!

purchased for the following reasons 5900hs 3070mQ WQHD Price first, the cons: - audio sounds pear-shaped and slightly muffled. G14 w/ rtx2060 sounded way better - idle power consuption - probably going to get hot during summer - 8GB on the 3070 falls short in some mining scenarios - new nvidia driver, or perhaps BIOS update caused one of my favorite graphics demos to not display for about 1 min other than that, this is a hugely-updated spec from my previous laptop. As a graphics coder and demoscene fan, i'm inspired by this machine. everything on the typing panel feels and looks great. If this were a 4k 14 inch i wouldn't know what to do with myself

    Big fan of this laptop

In short: I'm a big fan of this laptop. So to start: The screen is incredibly good, the color gamut is top notch, 165 hz, 2650 x 1440. It's a great resolution for a laptop of this size, it's noticeably crisper and 1080p. This laptop screen blows a lot of mid-tier monitors away. In terms of gaming, it does very well. It gets a little hot, but so does any gaming laptop. I'm able to play Doom Eternal on high/ultra settings at around 100-120 fps. Additionally, It's very lightweight, and has a sleek form factor. In terms of audio, I feel like "good laptop speakers" is an oxymoron, but this laptop delivers. The speakers are surprisingly good. Of course a nice standalone system will likely do better, but the speakers sound good considering the size. Overall I quite like this laptop and would recommend it.

Great for gaming! Terrible for Video Editing

This is a pretty powerful and strong computer... for the right things! The display is beautiful and it's got immaculate color on it! It's crisp, wide, and big. For gaming, this computer rocks it, it handles most games beautifully, and smooth for the most part (unless you overload it on mods obviously) But i can stream, and play games in a high frame rate and it can keep up with all of it! The heat element is something else, it doesn't usually heat up too terribly, but when it does, it puffs out the side onto your right hand (when using an external mouse) and also burns your left hand which is on the keyboard. And this baby gets HOT. I play games on a regular basis, but i'm actually a travelling video editor. This computer was not built for editing. It was built for gaming, so keep that in mind. The specs lead you on to believe that it can handle 4k editing, but half the time, even with proxies it doesn't play, and crashes. Exporting times are also horrendous. A 20 minute video could end up taking over a day to export, and that's if the computer doesn't black screen to where i have to force shut off. I hate using the power button to turn the computer off, but with how often this thing goes to a black screen (you can tell cause the keyboard is still lit up but the screen is black) the power button has been my main shut off so far. I'm not sure if that's how this computer is meant to be, but it is driving me crazy. So if you are an editor of any sort, DO NOT GET THIS COMPUTER. Now if you're just using it to move over your shots from an Sd card it's perfect for that, and again for gaming, it works really well. So I believe this can go either way on if it's good or not and that's why I'm giving it a 3 star rating. I hope this review helps the next person that's like me!

What an amazing time to purchase a laptop. Buying a laptop that straight up dumpsters most desktops in such a small, portable and efficient format has never been more possible. Amazing performance and the built in asus software is super helpful in tuning the laptop to your needs. The fans get quite loud as you would expect but I don't care because I usually wear headphones. Amazing product from Asus, will continue to buy their products for sure. If I had to put one negative thing on the review it would be that the speakers are trash, but you could probably say that about literally every laptop on the market, even the good ones sound like trash, just wear headphones.

The laptop while definitely being overpriced has really been excellent in the performance area. All AAA games play in almost their highest settings and have had no issues with heat. The fans do get a little loud while gaming but i won't hold it against the laptop.

This is a review after trying the laptop for a few days. I am a software engineer, so I used it for work and some occasional gaming. The performance of the laptop exceeds all my expectations. Both the CPU and GPU work great. The cooling is fantastic, when on battery you can work on silent mode with both coolers powered off. The lack of camera is annoying but I knew what I was buying. The problem is the speakers at 40% volume make a popping like farting noise when listening some music or someone talking. It could be that my unit is defective but it is hard to know. I am thinking about returning it and ordering a G14 in the hope that everything works as expected I tried touching every configuration in the Dolby app, it reduces this defect a bit but still happens once in a while. The weight is phenomenal for a 15 inches laptop.

Makes concessions to hit the price to performance

I had this laptop for about 2-weeks and while the beginning of the experience was really good, it started to grow stale over a little bit. Ill try and sum up why I returned it, but also some of the strong suits. The Good: The laptop is quite powerful, and the AMD processor with their cooling can go for hours without running any fans and lasted 6ish hours on battery. It can also play AAA titles well at 1440p and isnt outrageously hot. The trackpad is large and the keyboard has good response. The bad: My biggest gripe were random issues. The trackpad would jump randomly, the keyboard lighting is abysmal, the speakers do pop for most people (look it up), and the build quality is very meh. Creaks and weak points can easily be found when toting this laptop around and the bottom would flex along with the screen top. It doesnt feel like it is built like a $1800 machine. My second biggest gripe is fundamental to the machine and why I got rid of it in the end. The heat, substantial heat, is exhausted onto the bottom of the display. Because of the hinge design they use it all goes onto the display and disperses. I cannot see this being good for the laptop long term if you game on it. It is a very poor design, and it may work perfectly, but again... for $1800 I dont want to deal with display problems a year down the road. This is a really good laptop that rides that line between long lasting machine and gaming monster, but ultimately it made too many concessions to hit that magic power/performance ratio. That doesnt mean it isnt a good machine, it just isnt one for me. Also do yourself a favor and look up some of the issues this model has had, it has some very common problems to be on the look out for. I would avoid open box.

This is one of the rare laptops that offers amazing battery life for on the go workstation use while also having top tier gaming performance while plugged in. It offers a very good keyboard, trackpad, IPS QHD display, speakers and microphones. This is highly recommended so grab one if you see it in stock.

Really good laptop for online gaming and handling business items for work or bills. Only thing I would recommend is getting a fan cooler for the laptop since it will run pretty warm (but that's with all of these new laptops anyways). Graphics are great for gaming. The speed of the laptop is awesome. Computer starts up immediately from shut down mode (doesn't take forever). Really no complaints from me ASUS brand has been really good to me over the years (last gaming laptop I had from this company lasted 10 years - still runs but got a bit slow this last year. But come on 10 years lasting is pretty impressive) & I have an ASUS tablet that has lasted as long as my old laptop so it might push more miles (LOL)

Upgraded from a GS63VR with a GTX1060 and I must say this is a powerful little thing. Pros - Excellent battery life(for what it is). You can easily push past 6 hours and depending on what you're doing you could stretch it out to 9 hours - Excellent display. Great color accuracy, high refresh rate and wide viewing angles, especially noticeable since my previous laptop had a TN panel - Runs silent. Fans will stay at 0RPM for the most part while you are on battery. if plugged in the fans are still barely noticeable below 3000RPM - Sturdy body. There's barely any flex on the main chassis so that honeycomb pattern performs as advertised. Cons - There's some coil whine when the keyboard LED is off, I've seen it mentioned on Reddit threads so yours will most likely have it too. I doubt you'll notice it if you are past your youthful years tough. - At the moment, there's a bug that prevents the laptop from going into sleep mode. - Gets HOT while gaming, what are you expecting anyway.

Great performance and battery life. G15>M16

At first, I was deciding between this laptop and the M16 sister product. I ended up going with the M16 but returned it because of the backlight bleed in the corners and lackluster battery life (M16 got 5-6 hours). This device, although very similar to the M16, is much better in terms of performance and battery life. Being the same price of a similar spec'ed M16, this device has the 3070 versus the 3060 as well as the R9 processor. I was able to get around 8 hours of battery life which is the perfect amount for me (albeit with a 60Hz refresh rate, integrated graphics, and 75% brightness. Still really good IMO). The only advantage I would say the M16 has is the bigger and slightly better screen but that experience was ruined anyway with the extreme backlight bleed. For the cons: The top speakers on my device don't work all the time. They at first worked and were broken by a Windows update and a BIOS update fixed them. Later, another Windows update broke them again and there hasn't been another BIOS update to fix them again so I'll have to wait and see what happens there. Second, I do have a bit of backlight bleed although not as severe as my M16. It's not a huge issue since you can really only see it when displaying a black screen but it does get a bit annoying when watching videos/movies since there are usually black bars on the top and bottom of the screen anyway. Lastly, just a little thing, no webcam. Slightly annoying since a lot of work these days is done virtually but an external webcam works just fine so not a big issue.

Overall this is excellent. The battery life lives up to the promises - it's great even for a standard laptop and absolutely incredible for a gaming laptop. The touchpad is excellent and the keyboard is a joy to type on. The weight is perfectly reasonable and highly portable. The looks are subdued such that this wouldn't look at all out of place in an office. The only downside is the screen brightness is a bit on the dim side. It's fine for indoor use but not something you'd want to try to use while outside.

I first of all I’m not 100% impressed by the color choice of this model. It’s a good hybrid build with metal and plastic. Not too thick for a gaming laptop which is nice because it can fit in those bags. So I do 3-D modeling and I need a solid portable device on the go. I’ve had MacBooks and I’ve had the razor blade 15 advance. All are great laptops but the power of this one definitely renders like a monster the Ryzen 9 It’s definitely to go to CPU compared to Intel I only gripe about Rison and this is not about the laptop it’s the drivers. I have more driver issues than I’ve ever had with Intel by everyone’s experience is different. As far as gaming oh its great I’ve been playing maxed out settings with Ray tracing in Call of duty I get between 175 to 120 fps in QHD depending one the area or multiplayer. I can say I can recommend this laptop as Work/Gaming laptop.

It's good, but it runs very hot and I don't like all the hot air blowing through the keyboard and also onto the bottom of the screen bezel, that can't be good for it. I had no problems with my screen, minimal backlight bleed, no bad pixels, looked great. Battery life was great too. Build quality was not that great, and the 3070 is not a full power laptop version. Although, it's not really surprising with something this compact. It still held it's own with games, it plays well with the QHD screen. I changed the registry key entry that unlocks the cpu power management in the power options, Asus have this set to 'aggressive' as default and you can't change it otherwise. After I turned it off my CPU idle temps went from low 60's to low 50's immediately. Much better temps and very minimal performance drop. It should not be locked as default. The GPU hovered around 80 degrees which was totally acceptable under load IMO, the fans did a good job keeping it under control, but they can get a bit loud. If you want a full powered 3070, and better quality build, I'd look at the Legion with similar specs. If you want longer battery life / portability and don't mind all the heat then this is still a good laptop.
