Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the excellent performance, impressive build quality, and long battery life of the ROG Zephyrus 15.6" QHD Gaming Laptop. Many also praise its powerful GPU, lightweight design, and vibrant display, along with the keyboard. However, some users mention that the laptop can get hot, and the fan noise can be noticeable. Other criticisms include the soldered RAM, less-than-stellar speakers, and the absence of a built-in webcam.

This is my first gaming laptop. Full disclosure I purchased this laptop on the 2021 Black Friday sale. It is very powerful and has the right balance of hardware installed to handle everything you want to throw at it while being affordable. The screen is wonderful being 2560x1440 resolution with 165Hz Refresh Rate. The keys are comfortable and easy to use while gaming on them. Overall I am very pleased with the build quality and the laptop as a whole. As for the Cons: My Biggest issue that one stick of RAM is soldered on which limits you to only able to upgrade the other SODIMM RAM and if you go over the original 16GB while using it limits the RAM to single channel. For the price that this laptop is when not on sale you should have the ability to upgrade both ram slots. The IO ports are a great but the 2 USB-C ports should be Lightning not just USB-C. When not on sale it is a little expensive.

    Great laptop but TOO HOT

Gaming performance wise it is a great laptop. Has a powerful CPU and GPU (although the price difference for the 5900HS and 5800H given performance is the same is not good) This laptop games well and does video encoding great, but it reaches temps close to 100c. Which imo, is way too hot. This was also on a flat surface WITH a cooling pad. Returned it the next day. Another con imo is when connected to a TV, you have no control over resution in NVIDIA Control Panel and no way to record games via shadow play if GE Experience doesnt recognize it. Like older games like Unreal Tournament, Emulators, or even some new games like Forza Horizon 5. Overall it is a great laptop if the heat doesnt bother you.

I originally ordered the TUF F15...huge mistake. I should have bought this unit from the start. Everything is much nicer compared to the TUF. The screen is amazing. The keyboard feels fantastic. The processor and gpu are the bees knees. I haven't encountered the speaker issue people are talking about, but I use Dolby Atmos for the built in speakers...overall, definitely worth the money spent! Plays Black Ops CW on Max settings.

FANTASTIC DESKTOP LIKE PERFORMANCE in a small package???!?!?! Who knew that this would be possible one day!?!?! Right?? I did all the benchmarks, played 40+ hours of triple A games in ULTRA settings. Performance didn't disappoint a bit! I took and passed one of my exams on it! That's when I realized how annoying this BLOWN SPEAKER situation is! I wish it had a crappy quiet speaker that works, instead of trying to be this loud speaker that's BLOWN!!!! All the drivers are up to date, including BIOS, chipset, sound etc... Still crappy blown speaker!

My experience with this laptop has been great so far, I do wish at times it had a webcam but the performance, weight is great and the speakers sound fairly well. The fans sound pretty strong when running on turbo mode, but when on the performance you can barely notice them. Battery life is awesome around 9 hrs before charging it again, brightness can be a little brighter but it does the job. I have taken this laptop on 4 trips and has been great, no issues so far, and very happy with my purchase.

It is light, the graphics are great, the power lasts quite some time, but, the fans keep kicking on high for no reason. Sometimes when is sleep mode, sometimes upon start up, sometimes just because. The only way to stop it is to do a complete shut down. Very annoying. No bios update, no utilizing the fan settings to lower it. May have to go back. Unsure if just this one laptop or if this is an across the board issue.

I'm very happy with this purchase. Getting an amd cpu and nvidea 3070 with a TB of fast storage at this price is just a great deal. So far it's chewed through every game I've played with high frame rates. The only negative is that half the ram is sodered to the board so 16 gb of dual channel memory is all you can have. I doubt I'll need more though, still it was a bizarre thing for asus to do. My last laptop was an Alienware r3 15 which is no slouch itself but this blows it away. It's amazingly light and thin also.

One of the Best 2021 Laptops

Has to be one of the top 3 laptops of 2021. The GPU performance won't be the most competitive among many of it's more heavily built 3070 peers, but losing out on 5% to 10% FPS (if even that) is totally worth all the other features. Especially if you've wanted a stylish looking, light weight, premium chassis approaching Razer territory, along with a good keyboard and very good speakers. And the display is excellent as well. Really low pixel response time, comparable to my Odyssey G7 monitor. A MUX switch to bypass Nvidia optimus would have been great to have (2022 models do have one, at least). And unfortunately the laptop doesn't usually go into sleep mode when it should, (a problem most, if not all G15's have had over recent years), but you can rely on hibernate mode if you don't mind an extra few seconds when waking it up. Yet, for the sale price I paid for this 'excellent condition' open box unit, ($1470) these issues aren't something to complain about.

I’ve had this machine for about a month now and don’t have any issues with it besides the lack of a webcam, though the newer models do include one. Overall it’s a great deal if your looking for a gaming laptop that has a minimal look while also not being to thick like it’s competitors. It’s also a great computer for and work related tasks and the graphics card along with the powerful cpu included makes sure that any program will run smoothly.

Has issues with WiFi receiver. Tried to get it fixed through manufacturer with no luck. They kept telling me to “reset it”, but it was not even recognizing that it was a device. Had to ultimately replace it myself. Otherwise a great laptop for gaming and watching videos while traveling. It’s on the heavier side, but that’s expected.

Pros: Light-weight and portable. Runs cool and is very quiet. High performance with long battery life. The speakers are phenomenal. Looks sharp and doesn't shout "I aM a GaMer" Cons: No matter what settings I choose, it goes to sleep after idling for a while. Tried many solutions but none of them worked. Quality control could be better, as I had to return one with a dead pixel.

I'm blown away by the premium lux of this laptop. Tested with Red Dead Online. I set the Asus Armoury Crate to Turbo and Vivid and all I did was download the latest Nvidia Gaming graphics driver. This laptop set up fast and automatically so it was pretty pleasant to set up. Wow, the monitor is amazing. High refresh, bright, accurate and vivid colors, and high res 1440p. The CPU whips all the programs quickly and the GPU combo slays any game. I am testing this laptop to make sure there are no defects. No audio issues as other people reported. In fact, the 6 speaker audio effect is really great, creating a nice sound zone/stage when watching Youtube videos. The keyboard is firm, and the mouse is glass smooth. No accidental mouse presses with the palm, and the trackpad is big. RGB is pleasant, not too bright or dim. Fast SSD (not blazing fast), with a ton of storage for your favorite games. One thing no one talks about is the rainbow lines that shoot across the top of the laptop as you change your view angle. It's pretty special. Magnesium top feels and looks premium.

Pre-ordered this laptop as my last msi GS65 was now two years old and was due for an upgrade. Build and Finish: First the screen is absolutely stunning, bright and with vivid colors. The build quality is solid and it seems to have a coating that is pleasant to the touch. The keyboard is not as crisp as my msi or my razer before that but it isn't terrible. The volume hot keys are a nice touch. It is only single zone rgb which might made to some. Performance: when it arrived it ran a bit on the hot side causing the fans to consistently run at high speed and hitting 50db which was annoying. Firmware upgrade fixed that and it has software built in to tailor the experience to your liking. Other than that this thing blazes through anything I throw at it from cyberpunk to CoD to ffxiv it doesn't miss a beat. My one complaint would be the soldered ram. It comes with 16gb but 8gb are soldered to the motherboard. So while you could upgrade your ram you would never be able to run more than 16gb in dual channel. Should have just soldered 16gb and left an open slot for upgrade. The hard drive is made by hynix and is quick not samsung 980 pro quick but still fast enough that you won't have to upgrade it out of the box.

The Zephyrus G15 is a fantastic machine. The metal plate on the lid is surprisingly nice with its rainbow sparkle and the machine is quite rigid. Though, there is a bit of flexibility with the display. The sound, keyboard, and trackpad are great. For the keyboard, it would be nice if there was an option to swap the FN lock and if the F-Key buttons could be better utilized for media. Battery is really good, easily over 6 hours. The bottom of the chassis is made of a high quality plastic. As far as I can tell, it shouldn't break over continued use. It would be nice to see a 16:10 display on this model (rather than just the Intel based M16) and if the display was brighter (though it is still completely usable as-is).

When I first researched this laptop I was like "eh" this is just another ordinary laptop with an upgrade. The only reason I bought this laptop is that it was the cheapest gaming laptop with a QHD 165hz display. I didn't care that much if the performance was a little different than the ROG STRIX Scar since that was 2200$. While I was setting it up I updated everything and I may have messed up one of the downloads so I had to reset the computer;( but in the end, I was able to customize it the way I wanted. I played some Fortnite and even though it was a long while since I played Fortnite I managed to get a Dub on the first try with this laptop. With RTX and with QHD quality and Ultra Settings I got 70-80 frames. This laptop is a beast.

A month in and I'm really impressed with this laptop. Very powerful, great build quality, lots of built in tools to tailor performance to your needs. Runs hot when playing graphics heavy games, but that's part of owning a gaming laptop. I bought a cooling pad and it's helped a ton.

Amazing laptop, I use it for work and gaming. Some gaming laptops look too ridiculous to take to work, not this one. When I use it for work I turn off the GPU and have battery for 9 hours, enough for a full day at work. When gaming I plug the power in. Keyboard and Pad are very comfortable to use. Only Con is that the upper part of the keyboard does get hot when on a gaming session.

I was looking for a laptop for gaming, work and to be my everyday driver. After reading and watching many reviews I decided to go with the Asus G15 with the RTX 3070 and 16GB of ram. When the laptop arrived I did inspect it from to bottom and ran a backlight bleed and speaker test as I have heard some reviewers were having issues with backlight bleed and the speakers making a popping sound. I am happy to say I have had none of those issues. I have played battlefield 5, gears of war 5, star wars battle front 2 and metro exodus the pc enhanced version. All the games ran very well with no issues. The fan nose was not an issue and the games looked really good with an incredible amount of detail. The brightness of the screen was great, no issues at all. Battery life was also really good. I tried using my xbox elite 2 wireless controller and was able to sync it up right away using bluetooth and was great to game with. I was really surprised by just how many pc games came with my xbox game pass for pc as I have it for my xbox series x. Huge bonus! The laptop has a really nice feel to it and is very light. The sound out of the 6 speakers with DOLBY ATMOS is simply stunning for a laptop. When I use my gaming headset I was totally in the zone. The keyboard was very comfortable to type on. Overall this is a very good laptop with great build quality and I highly recommend it for use as an everyday driver and for gaming. In my opinion this is an very well priced laptop.
