Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the excellent performance, impressive build quality, and long battery life of the ROG Zephyrus 15.6" QHD Gaming Laptop. Many also praise its powerful GPU, lightweight design, and vibrant display, along with the keyboard. However, some users mention that the laptop can get hot, and the fan noise can be noticeable. Other criticisms include the soldered RAM, less-than-stellar speakers, and the absence of a built-in webcam.

overall I am very happy with this laptop. Screen is clean and bright enough (can tell it wont be if your out in direct light, even in shade). computer goes into windows and opens programs quickly. I will be using this for some light gaming, research and network tasks around the house while I plop myself on the couch and semi vegitate. I added another 1tb samsung 970 and from what I understand can add 32 gigs more ram in the one slot I can upgrade. fingerprint sensor works very well so far too. I will update this review if anything arises. Only negative was I couldnt register it because it was open box and in the process of asus fixing it.

Great laptop. Bought laptop to replace old MSI laptop with 1060 gpu that I was using for work and some gaming when on the road during a move. It was a needed upgrade. I was able to play the latest games smoothly and also work will on the road. I mainly use my desktop for most of my work and gaming. Now I use the laptop alot more often than my old one due to the performance.

Once you set it up, the experience is flawless. You have performance that surpasses most desktops in a small 15in form factor and when you need it on the go you are able to acquire 10+ hours of battery

This is a solid laptop for gaming and any other demanding needs you may need a Powerful system for. Pretty much every game I've tried I could run on max setting or very close. played Escape from Tarkov, Metal Gear The Phantom Pain, Outer Wolds, and a few others. on another note, the speakers are the best I've used on a laptop. The only con I have is the trackpad can be inconsistent at times. I could just be my unit though.

Do not buy these units yet, the current ones that are shipping have a very high likelihood of something being wrong. Mine has issues with the speaker making a rattling sound, display drivers crashing, and a whistling fan. The display is also very muted but it just seems to be that these displays are not that great. The GPU and CPU are great but wait until after they fix all the bugs to buy.

Well.....great specs, low tdps, skinny and smaller laptop which is y u get lower tdps, but great for the performance you get. The only real big issue is on the back of the laptop, there are 2 rubber stands, and they suck.....one is coming off and the other is lost so now I have to send back a perfectly working laptop in shipping to asus for them to fix it. P.s Missing a rubber stand makes the laptop lopsided

So far so good. The price to performance ratio is insane on this thing. Comparing to a surface book 3 with similar specs it crushes it. The ryzen 9 5900hs is great paired with the RTX 3070. 3DMark Time Spy got an 8405 score. The M.2 is very good stock, not the best out there but for the price is very good. The display at 2K 165hz is buttery smooth. I pulled out the 8 GB DIMM to drop in a 16 DIMM to make a total of 24 GM RAM and this thing is screaming. I haven't had any backlight bleeding on my display (consider myself lucky). Given the current state I would definitely but it again. We'll see how time holds up.

This is a fantastic combination of some of today's fastest available mobile components in a very well-priced machine. This is marketed somewhere just at the edge between the highest mid-range and lowest of high-end gaming machines in my opinion. It'll handle ANY game you throw at it - and I mean ANY and do it smoothly. What keeps it from being ultra-premium would be the materials used for the body (perfectly adequate but not PREMIUM), the screen (again, very nice and quite color-accurate but not PREMIUM), no webcam (I personally don't care), limited memory options (16GB is plenty for gaming, though you can increase it to 24GB BUT LOSE DUAL-CHANNEL BANDWIDTH BOOST which is bad), and the RTX 3070 which is absolutely capable and well-suited for this system in every way is not the FASTEST or the HIGHEST performance dedicated-video available. So no, it's not the king, but at this price point it is a purchase I don't think anyone would regret. Again, smooth gaming - any triple A title, fans don't get too loud, it doesn't get so hot it'll burn you, you can add a second PCIe M.2 drive and/or replace the 1TB one it comes with (I replaced it with a 2TB Western Digital SN850 and eventually will add a second). In regard to issues I saw in other reviews: Fingerprint scanner works 95% off the time for me. You can always go back into Windows account settings and try resetting it with your finger in other positions if you have trouble. Not iPhone-accurate but darn close. Very convenient for Windows 10 login. Speakers could get louder but there is no distortion, crackling, etc issues and I did not have to adjust a single settings anywhere.

I got this laptop Open-Box satisfactory and was absolutely in love. I unfortunately had to return it because it started to have issues with throttling the fans and cpu when not under load. However it was such a gorgeous machine that I bought a newer model with the hopes to allow it to redeem its self.

Solid gaming laptop with some compromises

Excellent compromise between weight, power and portability. The chassis is grown up enough to not scream, "Gaming laptop" which is very useful in the office if you want to be taken seriously. It's the lightest 15" gaming laptop I've ever seen. It packs in a RTX 3070 rated between 80w-100w depending on the game and workload. I've found you need to limit the boost behavior of the Ryzen 5900HS to allow the GPU to stay close to 100w maximum. The entire rig usually tops out around 165w, which is well within the 200w charger's maximum rating. The thermal system exhaust the majority of heat out the inner top of the lid, against the lower screen. We'll see if this affects the longevity of the laptop, but for the past 4 months, it has been fine. The keyboard and touchpad are study and well made. Some will complain about the use of plastics, but as long as they don't wear badly, I prefer the lighter materials. The lid is magnesium alloy and feels nice. Be careful, as some of these laptops have shipped with bent lids that don't close tightly. The bottom panel is easy to remove to update/install NVMe SSDs and upgrade the single changeable DDR4 DIMM. Be careful when upgrading the DIMM, as you can break dual-channel mode if you pick the wrong memory. This laptop will supposedly run in hybrid-dual channel up to the first 8GB in the 2nd DIMM if you install a 16GB or larger secondary DIMM. I've been unable to receive official confirmation on this unfortunately. I replaced my MSI GL65 w/ i7 10750H and RTX 2070 with this laptop. Functionally, their performance in most games is very, very similar, with some important exceptions. Most games simply don't take advantage of 8 core CPUs. Most barely use 6. As such, my old 6-core CPU ends up behaving similarly in games, with many preferring the Intel architecture. (Total War series) When it comes to Ray Tracing titles, the newer 3070 beats the older 2070, even though my old 2070 was a 115w model and this 3070 is a 80-100w model. That's very impressive. Where the newer laptop stumbles in balanced workloads, where the CPU and GPU are equally pushed. DLSS titles in particular show this weakness, with the Zeph G15 performing extremely close to the MSI GL65 in Cyberpunk with RTX and DLSS enabled. I've found this is a common theme in most DLSS titles, as DLSS uses the CPU much more than games without it enabled. Overall, this is a great mobile gaming laptop. I use mine mostly in the office with occasional gaming sessions, and it does the job well.

Decided to upgrade my laptop for the future and this is as good as it gets right now. The Ryzen 5900hs is more than powerful enough for any streaming, gaming or simple task I will need going into the future. The 1 terabyte drive will allow me to store more games and apps than ever, which is amazing. And the 16 gig of ram is perfect for the tasks I plan on using this unit for. And best of all, the Nvidia RTX 3070 can handle all my gaming needs, and streaming will be a breeze with this powerful card installed. Also, the QHD screen is gorgeous compared to the FHD screen in my present Asus laptop. Overall, all I can say is Wow Asus, you have made a dream laptop that anyone will enjoy for years into the future. Way to go.

The bomb! Love this computer. Bought an open box excellent condition model and so glad I did! Only issue was the Windows 10 OS wasn’t activated, but I contacted Asus help desk and they sent me the product key unique to the motherboard. On to the good stuff, this thing is blazing fast! I turn this on Turbo mode and hit full FPS and resolution on lots of Xbox pass games. Star Wars squadron, need for speed, Forza 4 & 7, amazing! Love the look and the speed for processing video rendering is super fast. Thanks Asus & Best Buy! Nailed the price performance, & portability.

The laptop is excellent. Good screen, powerful processor and GPU if you know what to expect. Only reason for 4 stars score is that the screw on the extra m.2 ssd mount was overly tight from factory, and had to be removed with pliers and a eventually a Dremel, which is a pretty big mess up from Asus in the expandability department. Otherwise, great machine.

    Quality Control Where?

I really was hoping that the poor reviews were just over exaggerating this products faults. But with the near 2k price tag, which only gets higher with a warranty, any fault out of the box cannot be justified. I would imagine that had this product been quality tested better, I would have absolutely fallen in love with it. The device feels solid, the screen was a good size and the colors seemed to be showing beautifully. The start up sound, a small slicing sound as the logo is slashed in two, made me smile and I especially loved that from the outside, it wasn't over stated that "This is a gaming laptop!", the sleek black case feels great to the touch, the keys felt nice to press and had good responses (for the most part, ill get into that soon). However, the two gripes that I did have with this laptop both stem from quality control which sadly seems to be a very common issue with people who purchased this laptop and had a poor experience. The first thing I noticed was that the screen had a decent bit of screen bleeding. On a $200 laptop I wouldn't have really cared but when you're spending so much thats unacceptable. Furthermore, the enter key had dead zones on either side of the led in its center. This meant that unless you hit the key dead center every press it would not register that you had even pressed it. These two issues seem like things that ASUS should have caught in the quality control phase of these products and it is mind boggling that so many people have similar issues with this laptop. If you want to roll the dice like I did, I'm sure some of you will get an outstanding pc. However a lot of you will probably be extremely disappointed and end up returning it due to plethora of flaws that are somehow slipping past the quality control. I wouldn't waste the time ordering and the gas needed to inevitably return it. Instead I would look elsewhere for a more consistent laptop.
