Excruciatingly Underwhelmed

Owned for 1 month when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm a rising senior mechanical engineering student and my laptop from high school decided to quit working two weeks before finals week. I went to Best Buy and walked out with this not realizing how much more of an inconvenience this would be. The first problem I encountered was not a necessary function; but the audio (both through the headphone jack and external speakers) was awful. Songs would skip, speed up and slow down at random, and cut out using both Spotify and YouTube. Not to mention that the speakers it had sounded like it was underwater. A more important problem arose when my programs began to close at random. A common error of "*name of program* has encountered an unexpected error. *name of program* will shut down now." Happened across CAD, MIDI, Microsoft, and gaming software. Thankfully autosave kept the drafts that I didn't have a chance to save. The last straw was that it could not consistently connect to internet. No matter where I was nor what network I tried, it connected to WiFi at best 25% of the time. All these problem for $2000. I returned it within two weeks because I could not get anything accomplished and was dissatisfied with it entirely.

Could've put up with that since whenever colors were on screen it displayed those beautifully. However one of the keys on my keyboard did not work right so I had to return it after frustration. I opted not to exchange it for the same model and instead refunded. Reviews of the build quality are all over the place on the various ASUS Ryzen laptops this year so I'm no longer filled with confidence. Wish I could've gotten to try some games on this nice screen, but once I confirmed the key not working I did an immediate wipe and packed it for return. I'm going to either wait for a sale to change my mind or one of the new Lenovos to become available.

Really good quality for the price, especially if you can get it on sale. Some quality control issues, but if you can get one with a good screen (minimal back bleed/glow) you'll probably be pretty satisfied.

The laptop ran my games at ultra settings and I could not hear it break a sweat even with shooter-type games. It is a pleasure to use. It is a good weight for something with such a powerful graphics card as well. I also use it as a work laptop and it runs without issue. I highly recommend it and believe I will get at least 7 years out of it before needing to upgrade.
