It's unfortunate to hear that the unit came dead on arrival. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control, testing, and inspections. ASUS - ROG Zephyrus 15.6" QHD Gaming Laptop - AMD Ryzen 9 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 - 1TB SSD - Eclipse Grey The ASUS gaming laptop is small and light weight. It is powerful but has limits as a standard laptop. With no webcam and slow Wi-Fi it’s usefulness as just a laptop can be limited. At it’s price point I would expect to see a top notch Wi-Fi card and a webcam. During testing the Wi-Fi card would sometimes not connect to any network, actually it would show no networks available. This changed depending on what would happen with the laptop. By unplugging the power adapter things would change. Sometime plugging the power adapter in would kill the wireless. Sometime after a restart the wireless would not be available, again, no networks. Sometimes the wireless would be there 1 minute and gone the next. At every turn disabling and then enabling the network card would make it work again. All Windows and ASUS driver were updated and even searching for a new driver shows no new drivers. Although this is a minor issue to me, it could be a bigger issue to others. The Wi-Fi connection seems to also be limited in speed. No matter what settings I used on the wireless card I could not get speeds above 105 Mbps. My phone gets better than 200 Mbps. I have a UniFi AP AC Pro wireless access point. 1750 Mbps Dual band radio. Other laptops on my network get better than 250 Mbps. I again checked for updates to my wireless access point, none found. They normally put out updates about every 2 months or so. The way the wireless is acting is just like the Microsoft Surface Book 2, it is the same way. So for downloading games I switched to a wired connection. The wired connecting toped out at 950 Mbps, much better, I don’t think my internet is any faster than that anyways. So it has a slow and sometimes picky wireless card. Probably will be resolved in a future update. It also might be possible to replace the wireless card with a better one, it is installed in a slot under the bottom of the laptop that is easy to remove. With the bottom removed you can also add another SSD. There is an empty PCIe slot for a second SSD. The memory is half installed in a slot and half soldered on the motherboard. This is unfortunate because according to the specs of the motherboard it is limited to 16 MB of memory. So no point of trying to upgrade the memory. Battery life is very good when using it as a laptop in balanced mode. I got just under 6 hours of just web browsing, watching videos and normal laptop use. You could probably extend that even more by using power saver mode. In high performance mode the time was down to just over 3 hours. As far as gaming goes, just don’t do it without the power adapter plugged in. The FPS drops to about 30 if the power adapter is not used. This is because even though it states it’s in performance mode, both CPU and GPU are limited. Nothing out of the ordinary there, any gaming laptop has to have the power adapter plugged in to play games. The battery is there just in case you have a power issue, it gives you time to save your game. In my view that’s all it really needs to do. For gaming I set the screen resolution to the highest setting and 140 FPS. During gameplay it would reach 160 FPS during slower screen refreshes, but drop to 106 FPS during heavy gameplay. Still a laptop that gives you a beautiful screen and hits 106 FPS at full resolution is usable and enjoyable. The sound is beautiful and full, with plenty of base and mids and just the right amount of highs. In order to get this sound you have to have the screen back far enough to allow the speakers to form a sound chamber on your table. This is a built in lift system, it pushes the laptop up in back when the screen it up to be viewable. It is required because during gameplay it gets HOT. I first started out doing this on my glass computer desk but soon realized that the heat was so much it could shatter the glass. Heating the glass in only 1 place is very bad, so I moved to the kitchen table where the heat would not be noticed. It also gets very loud, very fast. This could be a design intension because of the video card ( a note on this, NVIDIA released an update after I was done with game testing that has the ability to quiet down the fans, at the cost of FPS ). There are 2 fans, 2 heat radiators, and many heat spreaders pipes in the CPU/Video card arrangement. They also put a heat spreader on the SSD, but it only goes to a copper tape area stuck to the inside bottom of the laptop. Since the bottom is plastic I’m not completely sure how well this works. Only time will tell. After all the Windows and ASUS updates the finger print reader seemed to woke quite well. I would like to see some kind of manual from ASUS on the available upgrades and what everything is supposed to do. I like reading through the manuals, they always have some useful information on how and why things work, and how to get the most out of them. I was unable to find any manuals for this laptop, maybe soon, but not when I was looking. I found the AMD CPU to be very capable. I was surprised by this, that last 2 AMD Ryzen CPUs I’ve looked into fell flat. Very glad to see AMD is finally selling CPUs that I can seriously consider again. I used to love AMD and then the bottom fell out and for a long time they just sucked, not anymore. It will be nice to have AMD as an option again. I make my living using my computer, I can not afford to have any glitches. Good for you AMD, make the other guys take notice again. As far as the RTX 3070 goes, I’m not fully impressed. This seems a little like a very minor step up, but at a high cost. When switching between games the screen would go black for a second or 2. Then come back to the loading screen. My guess is switching between the CPU video and the NVIDIA cards. Some more screen flickers when plugging in the power adapter. There seems to be some unstable moments with power changes and video card changes. At no point did the system crash while it was doing this, just give it a second to find the correct settings. I have read that some users had actual crashes during this, I experienced no crashes. My bottom line is this is a very good choice for the on-the-go gamer. Plenty of power and enough space to hold lots of games. You may need a wired connection to get the games downloaded, but once you have them installed you will never require more internet speed than the onboard wireless card offers. When looking at this, just remember, no webcam. If that’s important to you, you can buy an add on one.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus is a near perfect laptop for someone looking to get in to gaming or those looking for a upgrade. With the recent shortage of hardware this laptop is a no brainer on rather or not to buy this product. Hopefully this review will help to assist in your buying decision. First impressions of the laptop is that it actually looks pretty simple and does not tend to stand out too much as other gaming laptops have done in the past. For me this is a big plus. I prefer simplicity over flashy laptops anyways. All the specs for this unit can be found on Best Buy's website so i don't wanna waste time talking about them but instead i want to dive in to how well this performs from a gaming aspect and rather or not this is a good buy. So lets dive right in. Let me start by saying that this laptop is designed for hardcore gaming and those looking to push the settings on triple A gaming. With this unit packing some of the best hardware on the market to date. First off for all you RGB people out there yes the keys have RGB with a decent backlit display. The keyboard keys are nothing special in the way of mechanical keys and the spacing between them is ok. Not a big deal as i usually use a separate gaming keypad and mouse anyways, so i could personally care less about the stock keys. The 15" display is beautiful and really helps bring out all the beauty that is Ray Tracing. The speakers are actually quite decent putting out pretty good quality across the mid and high ranges however your low bass sounds are going to struggle and sound a little over compensated. Not a big deal as most people game with headsets anyways. So real briefly about the hardware that is packed in to this unit. The graphics card is a 3070 which is the newest card out in the market. While its not a top tier in the 30 series line up it comes in very strong on a middle grade level. The Ryzen 9 is one of the best CPUs out there right now and while its not top tier its very very close to it. So let's see how it holds up to some of the best and most anticipated games out there. I wasted no time and wanted to check this set ups Timespy score against my 2070 super. My super was coming back at roughly a score of 10197 where as the Asus ROG with the 3070 gave me a score of 13752. When pushing it to the limits against Cyberpunk with all my settings maxed out including setting Ray Tracing to ultra against my pc build which contains a 2070 super, I7 9700k and 32gigs of ram. My 2070 would average 38fps with gpu temps of 64 C and cpu temps of 60 C with minimal dropouts. The Asus ROG ran the same settings with a average framerate of 55 to 60fps with gpu temps around 72 C and CPU temps pushing 80C. The laptop got noticeable hot but not hot enough to make it uncomfortable to place on my lap. Heat dissipation was done through 2 rearward facing fans and which as hard as it tries to bring temps down there is only so much you can do in a confined space. While stress testing it against the Witcher 3 temps were obliviously better along with frame rates. At maxed settings gpu temps held steady in the low 70s to high 60s Celsius where as my cpu stayed around 75 Celsius. FPS held a solid 80 frames average and image rendering was smooth without any ghosting or issues what so ever. Ray Tracing was gorgeous doing a very good job of mirroring images off of water surfaces or marble floor. I think what really impressed me the most was the way torches gave off light against the stone walls on a dark night. The shadows would move with almost near perfect physics while allowing the light to be perfectly rendered against the backdrop. Under high load battery life also dropped from a average of 9 hours of battery life down to 1.5 hours of run time. Obviously that's to be expected so no surprises there for me as i leave my power cord plugged in all the time anyways. With the Ryzen 9 set up for the CPU it gives you more flexibility in the way of mulit-tasking. What i mean by this is that you can easily have multiple windows or even stream videos while gaming with no lag and very little frame drops. For me when i game i like to run multiple parses, or add ons, which help monitor my dps and give me ticker warnings when my CD are up. This can take a big load on the cpu however the Ryzen 9 didn't even bat a eye when given the extra tasks. Temps did up, however stability stayed consistent and not once did i notice any throttling with the temps in to the 80s. Here's the bottom line and my honest opinion. Me personally i am not a big fan of gaming laptops for a couple reasons. One, upgrades are expensive and a pain to do and some laptops are modular units which don't even allow for upgrades. My second issue and probably the most important one is high temps. Laptops are always going to run hotter then a PC desktop due to lack of space and the ability to dissipate heat properly. The added temps will cut the life down in comparison to a desktop. Now with that being said, as of writing this review due to Covid and all the scalpers in the world buying up parts, high end pc parts are near impossible to find and if you do find them you will end up paying double what the msrp value is. The GPU retails normally around $476 U.S. dollars however due to the shortage of parts the GPU is currently going for upwards of up to $800 or more. The GPU alone is more than half the cost of the laptop making the buying of this laptop a great deal. Not just that but Asus did not hold back on any cheap parts with this laptop. Although it may not be a top tier gaming laptop it comes in a very strong second and will easily handle any Triple A game out there with ease. Temps are gonna run high so i would recommend buying a separate cooling base to assist the fans in heat dissipation. Overall guys if you see this laptop for sale and its not sold out don't waste any time and buy it right away. This laptop is a no brainer and will easily outperform most set ups out there. Buy it up quick before the scalpers do.

This is a great laptop! Has good battery life, usually about 5 hours of standard use. Games really well, has good cooling. I took mine apart and replaced the heat sync compound with something better thats in it. This caused the laptop to stay much cooler than with the liquid metal heat sync compound. My biggest complain is the lack of a webcam. I can't complain that much, because I knew that when ordering the laptop. Overall, I'm well pleased and would recommend as long as the heat sync compound gets replaced.

It's been a great computer overall, though there is a lot of light leakage in the corners of the screen. The laptop does cut corners, like having no webcam, but you get a decent bang for your buck. I've had mine for almost 4 years, and it was going strong until I dropped it and the battery is now draining very fast. :( Hoping to fix it soon...and cheaply.

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome! Asus has a winner here with this price friendly yet powerful laptop combination. I'm sure there will be plenty of reviews listing the Gaming spec aspect, but I have a slightly different reason for having this laptop. Power to produce Music and Video. I always relied on Intel based LT's, particularly I7 only units for its processing power and years ago I did own an AMD based desktop way back with windows Vista and carried that unit all the way through to Windows 10 and still working. So, After I saw the specs of this machine, I knew Asus had configured a perfect blend of Rysen 9 power with the NVIDIA RTX 3070 GPU. The 16 gigs of Ram is standard for most LT's today so I understood their reason to help with the cost. So, leaving it up to the consumer's choice to upgrade to a total of 4 TB with two M.2 2280's and Ram to a total of 40 Gigs (verified crucial.com) is a lot of punch packed excitement. The price is right for starting out with some serious power that rivals Intel at the moment and you won't be disappointed. Specs: 1TB M.2 2280. 16GB Ram. Nvidia RTX 3070. 165HZ WQHD Panel. Two USB C and Two USB A. Micro SD. Hdmi. Ethernet. Mic/Phones port. Barrel Type Power connection. 15.6 Screen. No 10 Key. Backlit Single Multi-Color keyboard. Features: Keyboard raises up slightly when lid is opened. Case finish is attractive and the entire PC feels like a solid build. Keyboard is effortless. Extra large multi-function track pad. Function keys have most desired attributes. Battery has lasted approx 5 hours with normal use. I think it definitely helped to let charge for the recommended 3 hours upon first use! Slight Disappointments: Would have liked a 16" screen. No 10 key thus the smaller form factor. No full size SD card but can still use a adaptor. Finish is a fingerprint magnet. Still a lot of screws to remove bottom for upgrade access. This is just me nit picking. Finally, set up and registration was a breeze. So far this has been a wonderful experience! Get This Laptop!!

Pretty good laptop. Wouldn't really say it's worth the price, though. The thermals are pretty poor as well.
