Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the excellent performance, impressive build quality, and long battery life of the ROG Zephyrus 15.6" QHD Gaming Laptop. Many also praise its powerful GPU, lightweight design, and vibrant display, along with the keyboard. However, some users mention that the laptop can get hot, and the fan noise can be noticeable. Other criticisms include the soldered RAM, less-than-stellar speakers, and the absence of a built-in webcam.

Great laptop. 1440p 165hz screen is an improvement over 1080p laptop this replaces. No issues with slowdowns with the specs. This is a very "gamer" laptop with the constantly changing rgb backlit keyboard, and the "republic of gamers" splash screen each time you boot up laptop. Keyboard does feel nice, not too cramped even with the full keyboard + numpad. No webcam which is an odd omission considering all meetings are online these days. Lots of ports, but the best is having a Ethernet port which is a nice qol feature. Battery life is decent, want to bring cables with you as it only lasts a few hours. The charging port is in a weird spot in the middle. Laptop does get hot, but the amount of fans and vents doesn't make me too nervous. Not too much bloatware. Price is a bit high, but considering chip shortages it is on par with comparable laptops.

I am playing around with this Laptop still. I love the sleek design and how light it is in comparison to my original laptop. The graphics are a dream and the battery length is great. I've used it in multiple modes, but it has issues with overheating if it's in Performance and or turbo mode. The lights on the keyboard can be customized to different colors or even to alert you of the computer's temperature. I've had some graphic issues where the screen got super jumbled and for some reason it's continuously uninstalling the NviDia drive with a message saying that it is incompatible or does not recognize that the driver is installed. Other than that, it's great laptop.

I'm fairly certain this model will be unavailable by the time you see this post, but if you can get this open box then pick it up asap (or just buy the 2022 model)! This computer isn't particularly great as a gaming laptop or a general purpose "premium" laptop, but you would be hard pressed to find a laptop that does both as well as this one! If you are looking for the best bang for the buck gaming laptop, look elsewhere. Otherwise, if you're the type of person that wants a sleek gaming machine that functions as an actual laptop, buy this laptop! The screen is decent enough with a 2K resolution, but it doesn't get particularly bright. For gaming it's a whole different story: it runs at a 165hz refresh rate with a 3ms response time. The keyboard is a pleasure to type on! The only issue is weird issue is the keyboard backlight flickering when waking the laptop from sleep... The body of this laptop screams premium. It has a nice metal finish and rivals premium laptops at its original $1,900 price point. It's one of the thinnest gaming laptops you can buy and has a reasonable weight to it. Performance is great. My only complaint is the lower wattage 3070 but it's the right choice since the laptop gets hot enough as it is. The 5900hs CPU is plenty powerful and offers great battery life. It gets very hot when gaming, but what gaming laptop doesn't? Overall, get this laptop if you want a great all 'rounder!

I’ve had this laptop for over a year now and it still runs like it’s brand new. It gets a bit hot after awhile but if you get a laptop stand with duel fans & run the turbo setting for 5 mins you’re gucci. You can get the Asus mouse that links up to the keyboard so you can make the colors make which is pretty cool. The display is amazing, especially if you play online

This laptop is wonderful, it’s a beast and it runs every game I’ve intended to run along with still giving me access to everything I need for productivity. I’m a sucker for playing games leisurely but I like traveling and this allows me to do both. It’s great quality, beautiful screen, serious customizable options, comfortable key spacing, and fast. I love my laptop

Summary: Definitely recommend to buy. Good High Performance laptop overall, not best for programming/coding or reading, default settings make it a bit harder to start with. The Good: Fast processor, faster startup time. Boots up within 6-8 seconds, programs load pretty fast. Web browsing is seamless. Keyboard is very high quality. It is easy to type. There are quite a few shortcut keys to increase/decrease volume and open Armory Crate. Missing a number pad which is useful, but get additional speakers in front which is good.It is missing default home and end keys, which is used a lot by programmers, don't like to hold an additional function key for getting these done. Not much of a problem for me as I plan to buy an addon numeric keypad with these keys. Screen is very good at 2K, though brightness could be better. This is decent for an indoor setting. Movie visuals are excellent. I prefer additional brightness, but would always settle for the current one as the screen is anti glare and is much easier on the eyes. I was always looking for a good anti-glare screen with excellent picture quality and color gamut. This monitor fits the fill. One thing to note is that brightness reduces on battery and there is no way to set it to max brightness even if it is needed when on battery. Sound is hit and miss. The speech sounds are great and lifelike. The audio is not really as crisp as macbooks or other top laptops. The max sound does get really loud though. I haven't played games yet. Primarily bought this laptop for future proofing and to support my future VR headset. This laptop can get hot, so I plan to use manual mode and a potential cooling fan in the future to increase the product lifetime. Battery capacity is good. I plan to set it to longevity mode capped at 60% charging as I mostly use laptop along with the charger. I definitely miss a webcam, but I knew this while buying laptop, so can't complain about it. Overall, good accessories will be cooling pad, number keypad, webcam and mouse. It has good number of ports and I'm happy that this laptop is capable of supporting a 4K display on USB-C, which I can buy in the next 2-3 years.

Absolutely well-built laptop for the price, that does cut some corners. The screen quality is great, the color accuracy is on point, but the max-brightness is a letdown especially if you are planning to use it outdoors frequently. From the start, I knew that 8GB of ram was soldered on, but it doesn't bother me as most of the games don't require it. GPU is actually strong enough to play the most demanding games (Cyberpunk 2077 ran flawlessly), so it will last you for the next 2 -3 years. I am actually shocked by the battery life, mine lasted at-least 9 Hours (YouTube, 50% Brightness) before it gave up. The Cooling is great, but what were they thinking when they implemented the fan outtake in front of the screen? But still, I am not sure if it will damage the screen or not.

Over the last few months I have had the chance to try an HP omen 15 2070 super maxq 4k oled, a razer blade advanced 2080 maxq 4k oled touch and now this guy. Build: Even though it is plastic it feels solid and pretty premium I rank it under the blade and above the omen GPU: Slightly beats the 2080 maxq I had in the blade Overclocked by about 150 and 200 with the same OC it gets about 10 frames more on average. For 80 watts I am actually impressed. CPU: This is my first Ryzen build and I will never go back the intels feel like swimming under water Software: actually like the ROG software over the razer and HP Value: If this had 32gb of ram it would be perfect at this price Screen: Lastly the screen I have valued resolution over refresh rate since I've been gaming because I am not a competitive gamer. But at this resolution the jump from 1080 to 1440 is much larger than 1440 to 4k and every day window use the higher refresh rate again feels like stepping out of water. In summary for me this is the golidlocks laptop If I were more patient I would wait for the rog strix in may but it is what it is.

The best bang for your buck. This laptop performs better than my 2 year old desktop. It would normally cost $2500 to get a laptop to that level of performance. The screen is gorgeous to look at and flows like butter. What I can honestly say about this is that when you want to play demanding games, this will keep up with most of your desired settings and the fan will run decently loud but as an everyday carry laptop, this could not get any better and the battery life has averaged me about 5-6 hours, but other reviews have claimed with the right battery settings you can reach 8-9! Pros - Price is fantastic for what you get - Current gen CPU and Graphics - 2560x1440 165hz screen is gorgeous - Battery life is phenomenal - Sound is great and not tinny - Trackpad is huge and very responsive Cons - Fan can get pretty loud when running demanding games, but this is expected from a laptop. - No webcam

What can I say about this laptop that hasn't been said on countless YouTube reviews? It honestly is great for my usage. I am a weekend gamer who does a little bit of creation (InDesign/photoshop) for my job. I am not trying run Cyberpunk at 60 fps or video editing 4k so the soldered 8gb of ram does not bother me in the least as I do not see myself pushing 16gb regularly. The build and feel of the machine are great and it blends in at the office except for the RGB lighting on the keyboard which you can customize to white if you want. I know it does get a little hot to the touch after a few hours of gaming, but it is not horrible. I do not have any of the busted speakers issues either that seems to pop up online, but I am sure it happens. Only con I could see at my price point and usage would be if someone doesn't like a matte screen, but I personally like it. All in all everythign I could have wanted an more for the price point and features. Ryzen 9 and a 3070 in a laptop at this price with these looks you CANNOT beat it!

A stylish laptop, free of gaudy RGB and cringe gamer aesthetic. Decent build, with an ok screen and good to average performance in many games. Obviously not for sale anymore, but if you can find one used for under $700, it can be still be a good daily driver.

This laptop has to be in the running for the laptop of the year! I work with a lot of different gaming/high-performance laptops so I have some experience with them. First off, the build quality is top-notch and on par with the MSI GS66 and even the Razer laptops. The surfaces are not fingerprint magnets, a nice smooth metallic feel, well-thought-out accents all over the machine. You can tell Asus put some thought into it. The trackpad is big and glass with integrated l/r click. Keys are very comfortable and responsive. The sound and mics are great! (I do not have any of the popping issues I have heard people having). Battery life is great, beating the MSI GS66 which really impressed me too. Just all around a great laptop! Now on to the real stuff... performance, temps, screen, and software! -This is a 3070 Max P 80w but can reach 100w when it needs the boost. Performance is great. I ran Timespy and Firestrike right out of the box in "Turbo Mode" in Armoury Crate and it scored a ~9800 and ~22000 respectively. This is desktop replacement performance for most people. I can game in 1440p on a 165hz monitor with a 4k 60htz 2nd monitor as well as the 1440p internal with zero issues or noticeable hits to framerate. Temps never get over 70c and usually hover around 65-68c. Now...THE PROCESSOR! I recently switched to a 5600x on my desktop and have loved it. This laptop is sporting the brand new Ryzen 9 5900HS. This is a VERY snappy processor that is just an absolute powerhouse and the best part... no heat issues. This is because of both AMD power handling as well as Asus opting to continue using Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut liquid metal paste on the CPU. Idle temps in Turbo Mode just doing normal tasks and it hovers around 50-55c. In games, it ranges between 70-82c only ever hitting 90c briefly in benchmarks while the fans kick in. I have always owned Intel gaming laptops and have always had to Undervolt which always kinda got under my skin. No need here. With that said I actually think the temps could be better and suspect the factory liquid metal application may not be the best and have heard reports they don't put enough on the heat plate leaving a less than optimal contact. I do have some conductonaut laying around from other repastes so I may get under the hood and repaste the CPU and while I'm under there put some Kryonaut on the GPU and some new K5 pro on the VRMs and GPU memory. Lastly, the display. I spend 80% of the time at my desk with my multiple monitors so don't look at the integrated display much but when I do get it off the dock and work remotely the display does not disappoint. Beautiful 1440p 165hz with fantastic colors and zero haloing on the edges. Some people complain about the brightness but I don't have any issues at all with it. It gets plenty bright. Only con... STOP SOLDERING MEMORY ONTO THE BOARD! I am sure they have their reasons but having 8 soldered and 8GB stick just isn't ideal. Do I NEED 32GB, no not really but that doesn't mean if I did decide I needed it I would have to buy the 32GB version or have reduced performance by adding a 16/32GB stick to the 8 onboard only having 16GB total running in dual channel. I mean... just give me 2 stick accessible. There isn't a lot of bloatware on this computer, thanks Asus! Armoury Crate is actually useful, unlike MSI Dragon Center. It has a lot of great features that I use daily. Each performance mode has a noticeably different feel in performance and not just arbitrary names to tiny changes. I can see why this laptop is sold out everywhere. It is probably the best laptop in its class and I don't know if it's close. AMD has nailed it with the Ryzen 9 5900hs! Bye intel!

One of the best actually portable laptops around. Pros: -Great battery life -Glass track pad is very precise -Fantastic gaming performance, steam vr assessment is almost maxed out into the green -2K screen is clear and bright (high nits for a laptop) -CPU is in the high end you can get in a laptop and the AMD cpu is great at multitasking -GPU allows for 20 watt boost in intensive parts of games Cons: -Heat dissipates around the keyboard. Gets a little toasty and does not lend itself to being used with the screen closed as a workstation -Radeon software does not do a good job of utilizing the RTX when plugged in to HDMI. On the up side the USB-C ports are connected directly to the GPU. I recommend using them for an external gaming monitor -No webcam. Not a biggie, just a pain when you're portable and need it. -Lackluster ram configuration, 8GB is soldered. I added 16GB for 24GB total, AMD is supposed to perform some magic to get the first 8GB+8GB to be dual channel. Not sure if it works, but haven't noticed any major slowdowns. Overall this is a fantastic laptop for performance, gaming and portability with a few minor drawbacks (RAM, Webcam). I would highly recommend it.

. After almost a months of continuous use I found two things that can definitely be improved: 1- Screen can be a bit brighter. Ni issues in normally lit rooms but it can be a bit dim sometimes 2- Speakers have a 'pop' on the bass that make them sound bad on occasions In spite or that, this is a perfect all around laptop. 7hs+ on battery, a great gamer performant and a high(er) resolution screen for crisp text. Fast CPU (wholy crap is fast!) all in a lightweight and portable package. I'm happy

The computer runs smoothly, I’m no a geek but can say that is fast enough for games like Apex, Fortnite, No Man’s Sky, etc. Battery is decent for browsing. Cons. Gets hot a lot but not more than the msi gs65 stealth that i had before. Just 2 USB ports and no tunderbolt. Speakers are garbage and already having trouble with the Bluetooth connection. I tried to troubleshoot it because looks like a software problem but no luck. I’m still in my 2 weeks period to return or exchange but there’s no more in stock right now. Going to exchange it for a new one because i really like it and want to give it a second chance.

I wanted to love this laptop but the cons outweighed the pros. I ended up returning it for the Alienware m15 R4 and could not be happier. Pros: 2k display, fast cpu, great speakers, light, and long battery life. Cons: No webcams, sluggish in games due to the low TDP 3070, the panel was great but in games like warzone there was a slight stutter. Computer would also randomly freeze for a second. If you're a gamer buy a 3070 with higher TDP like the Alienware which is 140w.

Gaming laptops can be daunting if you’re not sure what to look for, but this laptop checks a lot of boxes. The main advantage to this laptop is that it provides premium class features and performance in a much cheaper package. It outperforms the majority, if not all, of the laptops that came out in 2020, it has a massive trackpad and above average speakers making able to compete with even premium ultra books, something not common for a gaming laptop, and one of its biggest selling points is that it does all of this weighing around FOUR POUNDS!!!! (1.9 kilos) All of these features make it pretty much ideal for the college student who either games on the side or needs it for tasks such as video rendering or 3D modeling. However, you must be aware of its drawbacks. It’s smaller size can make the chassis very hot to the touch under heavy use although internals will always be kept under control, meaning no throttling. Performance will also be weaker than similarly spec-ed machines but those machines will either much thicker and heavier or go past the $2000 mark so it is all based on personal preference. The laptop also does not have a webcam which I personally prefer due to the added privacy. If one really needs a webcam, using your phone is a free, simple, and better quality option that can remedy this. Lastly, half of the 16gb of ram is soldered to the motherboard limiting upgrades but unless you’re rendering 4K videos, this shouldn’t be much of an issue. Overall, amazing laptop. The main thing you want to keep in mind is if there are any physical issues with the device such as speaker popping or backlight bleed, return it immediately for another one. At this price point, you want to make sure your getting your money’s worth.

Overall all this laptop has it all. Good build quality, great fast hi-res panel, power processor with good GPU. It is basically the big brother of G14 with better specs. Heat is also not a issue, GPU and CPU are kept at a reasonable temp. Keyboard is also good, not per key RGB but better than just one color. One big issue I had was the speakers, sound quality is good for a laptop but it has some kind of weird defect. Some lower bass frequencies make a strange popping sound like it was blown. But I don't think it is, I am thinking the bass speaker can't handle certain low frequencies. I really loved everything about this laptop and I would pay this price for what your getting. But also for this price the defective speakers is not acceptable. I think it is best to wait until Asus can figure out the issue and then it is a buy. It will be the only gaming laptop you will need that is the best all rounder. you can do anything on this laptop. I had the G14 but wanted the same quality and performance with faster and bigger screen. This was it. I have tried a lot of different gaming laptop brands and this is the best so far, for the price, specs and quality of build. This would have been a 5 star laptop with the least amount of compromise. IT IS ALMOST PERFECT.... ASUS fix this issue.....

Amazing tech in a small package! Plays all my AAA games at High/Ultra settings in 1080p and 1440P with outstanding frame rates Pros: Zen 9 5800 is a beast. Everything is so much faster! The Nvidia 3070 is just amazing. Just blows away my desktop machine with a 5700xt graphics card. Thermals are good. This unit does get warm and the fans blow hard when gaming in turbo mode. However, during general web surfing the fans rarely even come on. At 15.6 inches, this screen is the perfect size for me and at about 4 pounds, it is light enough to throw in the backpack for school. I have over 2TB of games so the 1TB M.2 card that comes with this machine was not large enough. Instead of purchasing another M.2 card, I transferred many of my games to a extra 2TB SSD I had laying around. I put this drive into a 2.5 inch enclosure and plugged into one of the USB-C ports, games load off this external drive just as fast as the internal drive. No delays or lag. Cons: While the lighting effects look awesome due to the RTX 3070 and ray tracing, overall screen brightness is noticeable on some games. 16GB of dual channel ram is more than enough to run everything I do now but with 8GB soldered to the board, futureproofing is a concern. The power button doubles as a fingerprint reader. It can act funky at times but I've found if you just give it a light touch vs a full-on scan of your finger, it works about 85-90% of the time. Not great but I can live with it. They put the power connector right in the middle of the side of this unit. If you have ethernet and USB ports all occupied, it can look a little cluttered with wires. At/near the back of the unit would have been a better location for power. Lastly, the keyboard/trackpad area is a fingerprint magnet and hard to keep new looking. I've already ordered skins from m2skins to cover these areas. Even with these drawbacks, I couldn't be happier with my purchase. If you are looking for an overall beast of a gaming laptop that can double as a everyday driver for work/school, this is the one to get!

For starters, this is my first gaming laptop. Always played console. Spent months and hours upon hours of research before purchase. Wasn't even in my top 10 laptops I was looking at. There is always going to be something better, newer, faster, etc. Just pick one. Even with the new laptops coming out, This laptop runs flawless. Well almost, there was an RGB issue where I couldn't change my key color after an update. Not sure what fixed it but after updating other things and drivers, etc. It has return back to normal. Just spent 6 straight hours playing COD to break it in, it did not disappoint. no hiccups, no lag...Nothing. I literally have it sitting on the box it came in on my lap with an Xbox controller attached. Barely broke 80c at times FPS was in the 130 range, ran great. Feels like it's made with good quality. Nothing is perfect though. Fans are loud and consistent while gaming which is no biggie if using headphones. Little back light bleed, nothing to cry about. When the lid is up it's a bit flimsy, can't tell while using it only to the touch. Space bar doesn't always work (could be how I'm typing). And the RGB issue I mentioned. Thats it. For the average joe looking to buy and get into pc gaming while doing everyday computer stuff with light schoolwork (Word, Excel, power point) - this will do you just fine with no complaints. All in all, I'd be quick to check the mental stability of an individual who say's this laptop isn't up to par because I don't see it. Especially when it goes on sale for $1500. Ryzen 9 with a RTX3070 16GB 1TB - Thats a hard bargain to beat. It's a solid purchase for a solid laptop with solid performance.

I would recommend this to a friend
