Customers are saying

Customers find value in the ROG Zephyrus 15.6" gaming laptop's performance, graphics, build quality, and lightweight design. However, some users experienced issues with excessive heat generation, short battery life, and occasional fan noise. The keyboard also received some negative feedback. While the display and RAM are generally well-regarded, storage capacity may be a limiting factor for some users.

In short, I like this laptop. To mirror my title, it looks good, is well-built, performs well, has nice specs and connectivity, and a great display. For most, this should be a no-brainer. There may be a small nitpick here and there, but as a whole, I think it is a great machine. The Zephyrus line has been well respected of late. This is the first chance I have had to play with one, but I can see it. I really like the look. Pretty clean and modern, and honestly, not to “gamer.” Perhaps that is a letdown to some, but I like the somewhat subdued look. It has a”little” gamer to it, with a little flash, but it also doesn’t look out of place sitting at a coffee shop doing some work. A nice mix. I think the same can be said for the size/weight. It is no ultra-light, by any means, with that beefy card in there, but it is also just a shade over 4 pounds. A nice weight for at home, but light enough to take with you on the go (the power brick is also somewhat small). Given the solid build, it shouldn’t be an issue holding up over time either. Obviously, gaming is the main draw here though, so, does it hold up? Yes, I think so. The 3060 does well, the AMD chip has the power you’ll need, and while the base RAM may be “enough,” at least you can up it if you feel the need given your use case. There are 8GB soldered to the board, which is a little bit of a bummer, but I think you can replace the other 8 and pop 32 in the other slot to max out at 40GB (I am not certain here, so do your due diligence). It is DDR5, so that is a plus. Further, the 512GB drive will get you by, but you can also populate the other M.2 slot with another drive if you need/want. I guess I would like to see a 1TB by default, but that is a slight nitpick. As for performance, it is quite good. I was able to hit very high FPS on most e-game type titles with high resolutions/settings. Most AAA titles that I messed with were also getting very solid FPS numbers, albeit down from those less demanding games, and maybe a tweak down here and there from the max/ultra-settings. That said, I am very happy with all of the game performance and play. Everything looks great, runs clean and fluid, and doesn’t miss a beat. The system does get a bit warm when you are hitting it hard for some time, but nothing out of the ordinary and I think the venting is fairly effective. The fans can get cranking, and during heavy, heavy load you may hear them, but they are generally pretty quiet. All in all, a good experience. The display itself is beautiful. The bezels are fairly minimal (save the bottom), backlight bleed is the same if not nonexistent, and everything appears uniform. Text is crisp and clear and video playback and games look fantastic. It is bright (not the brightest) and colors are accurate and vivid, yet not blown out like a typical Instagram post. No complaints. The speakers are good. That is about all I can say. They get fairly loud, there is not a ton of distortion, and they sound “good.” Honestly, fairly good. That said, there is not a ton of low end, which is pretty typical these days. Do not expect MacBook level sound, I guess? I can say the same about the webcam. It is good. Fairly good. Not the best, but it will definitely get the job done on a video call. This still confuses me how all these laptop webcams are not better. The keyboard is rather generously sized. There is not a lot of give, it is responsive, and I have found it is spaced rather well. It is comfortable and easy to get used to. That said, even though I think it is very good, no laptop keyboard will ever beat a standalone keyboard for me. It is also backlit, which, honestly, should just be standard everywhere, on every laptop. Yes, there is also RGB if that is your thing. As you can tell, I am plain, and boring, but I do think they have done it well and it looks good (maybe it could be a bit brighter). For me personally, maybe even more important than the keyboard, is the touchpad. It is very large, very responsive, and overall, very good. I often struggle without a mouse, and a lot of the time it is due to poor touchpads. That is not the case here. Connectivity is pretty impressive, save one minor nitpick I wish were different. HDMI, Ethernet, 2 USB-A (3.2 Gen 2), 2 USB-C (3.2 Gen 2), Audio Jack, and Micro SD. The Micro SD is a nice add, but it would be great to see the USB-C ports be Thunderbolt/USB 4. All in all, though, not much to complain about here. You have options. Lastly, you get WiFi 6E so there is a little future proofing there. Setup, well, is setup. Simple. Typical. Not an overly long process, but there are a fair number of Windows updates. This was my first look into Windows 11. Still undecided there. There is some pre-loaded software as well as a few ASUS apps. Some of it can be useful. Some users may want to explore a cleaner install. When it comes down to it, I really like this laptop. It gives me the ability to really enjoy games and has the same power to let me leave loads of tabs open when I am not. Along those same lines, it works well at home, yet can be taken on the go. It looks good, is well-built, is comfortable to use, and has all the ports I am looking for. For me, the value is there.
