This is one hot potato out of the box but after some changes its now a baked potato, ready for enjoyment. You'll need to adjust the min / max CPU frequencies in your power plans for maximum potatoage. At idle by default it runs at max CPU which there's no need for that. Let your CPU raise and fall as it needs to. Set min at 5% instead of 100% and set max at 99% (optional) which really helps with heat. Aside from that I love this thing. Hoping it lasts me a long time. Asus's software is a bit bloated but overall, it's turned one sweet potato

Built quite well and runs very well. The battery life is very good, the fans are nearly silent on quiet mode most of the time. The keyboard and trackpad are very nice, and the screen is color accurate and high refresh rate. The only thing that I wish was different was the screen being a bit brighter, but I don’t plan to use it outiside much and it’s plenty bright for indoor use.

Blew my expectations out of the park. I found this item on sale, so I got the best deal I could on it but truly, this is faster and more dynamic than anything I would typically use a computer for. All around great quality product, super fast, and plays any game I could ever ask for with impressive speeds. May eventually add some RAM but it has additional slots for that ready to go!

Good general use, overheating issues when gaming.

One chooses to buy a gaming laptop as their primary goal is a frictionless solution to PC gaming either on the go or possibly as a console replacement. While ASUS has managed to hit all of my desired requirements of having an APU that can hold its own, especially on battery, with a MUX that allows the discrete GPU to be low-power/off via power profiles, everything falls apart when actually plugged-in for gaming. I expect the out-of-the-box experience to 'just work,' and this does not. While attempting to game with it plugged into the included AC/DC power brick, and HDMI to a 1080p display I consistently have what appears to be GPU overheat issues where I lose display output, the sound stays on - sometimes the laptop recovers, sometimes it powers down (hard power off). I've done some adjustments in the included ASUS applications and it's not helping. The CPU consistently hits 95-96c, which is within spec but still, that's hot. This laptop was purchased prior to a multi-week international trip as my Christmas present, and it's yet to provide any gaming entertainment. This is thoroughly disappointing that it appears that ASUS either has a general design issue (cooling solution, firmware boosting too high for CPU and/or GPU) or bad QA. Either way, it's no fun for the consumer. When I am back in the US I will be visiting the local Best Buy, purchasing an extended warranty as I'm concerned now this is going to cook itself in year two and I'm going to be past return period. Also, I'll be asking about what can be done to fix the situation. Again, this should be ready to go out of the box. I don't want to tweak or troubleshoot, I can do that on the PCs I build. I just want this to work. What's good about this laptop is when I use it as my 'workstation' it's great, USB-C PD works perfect, battery life isn't bad, and I think QHD at this screen size is great especially with high refresh.

      Dear SeanFromSeattle,

Indeed, this laptop is good for general computing needs and for gaming as well.

We do understand your concern about thermal issues. It is normal for the laptop, with the same hardware configuration and regardless of the manufacturer, to generate more heat than normal while gaming. When system resource utilization is high, this will generate more heat than normal and tends to trigger the fan to spin at full-throttle. Please ensure the air ventilations are free from obstructions in order to have an efficient air flow for better heat dissipation. While gaming, please ensure no resource hungry applications, processes or service within the OS, are running in the background since this will definitely spike the temperature. The heat or temperature does decreases or normalizes once system resource utilization goes down. If this laptop was mainly use for gaming, we recommend using a laptop cooling pad in order to help with heat dissipation.

This computer works very well for everything I need it to do. The only issues I have so far are that it is a bit bulky and that the fan can get very loud.

Good, but with some baggage and a learning curb

Overall so far a good, powerful laptop. Screen quality is sharp and is especially admired when paired with the high frame rate capabilities. CPU and GPU (according to "C" remains in acceptable range during long gaming sessions (with fan mat assistance) and can be monitored either through a screen overlay for the GPU (found under the GeForce Experience app) or color coated by ranges via keyboard lighting for CPU (found in the Armoury Crate app). Also relatively quiet on "performance mode". I also appreciated the "Battery Health Charging" settings in the MYASUS app. However, on "turbo mode" (as in "Armoury Crate" description insinuates) the fan noise can become very loud depending on the task. Also, while the GPU and CPU show they are usually within a good temperature range, some of the exterior parts of the laptop, especially in the blank area next to the M1-M4 fn keys, become extremely hot to the point I was worried I may burn myself why laptop in under heavy task load. Another area of disappointment was the battery life. Even simply tasks such as video steaming, even with lower screen lighting, seem to drain battery much more quickly than any other laptop I have ever used. Also, while a very mild complaint, I found that this laptop came with a unexpected learning curb that could have been easily avoided with even a simple physical copy of a user manual would have been included. There are, as of my count currently, at least five apps that have the potential to change settings of my laptop, all of which are very useful. I understand that there are reasons why these settings are housed under different apps however this does not excuse the lack a starter user manual in the box itself. The only reason I found the proper user manual that ASUS has on their website is because I stumbled across the MyASUS app by accident.

My original was defective, and the replacement is an ok gaming laptop. While it can play games at 1440p resolution, it almost always thermal throttles in performance mode. It can even struggle is game like Fortnite unless its in turbo mode.

This laptop is exactly what I was looking for. I've finally got it set up and updated, and downloaded some games to give it a test. So far I've tested Elden Ring, and it's running it at 2560x1440 on high at a pretty steady 58-60 fps. Everyday tasks are very speedy, however it does tend to ramp up the fans quite a bit. While downloading updates via Armoury Crate and Windows Update, temps rose to around 82C and the fan noise was very audible. During gaming it sounds like an aircraft with a slightly high pitched whine going. The screen is great, and the keyboard and track pad are amazing. The form factor is exactly what I was looking for, and the power is perfect in my opinion. For those curious, the box includes the laptop, the charging brick (holy cow, this thing is absolutely massive) and a few pieces of paper. The box has this fancy mechanism to lift the laptop when you open it, but mine was stuck and I only noticed it after I had the laptop out of the box and opened it again to get out the papers. I'd recommend you ignore the answer in the question section stating this comes with a backpack and headphones - it doesn't. My device appears to have no QC issues, there's no screen bleed and no dead pixels. Sticker placement for the Ryzen and RTX stickers isn't even, but I don't really plan to leave those on my device. Overall, this computer totally gets my recommendation. It's not as powerful as my main computer, but it comes as close as I'd expect for a laptop. I'm normally on my desktop with an 11900k with a 3080Ti, and this isn't much of a downgrade, especially considering I can take it with me wherever I go. As for why I actually bought it, don't judge me that I needed a second computer so that I can play co-op Genshin with myself.

A great PC for gaming with a solid battery life, sturdy frame, and enough power to play the things I want. And it doesn't look too "gamer-y" in aesthetic so I can be more discrete in the office/public. Feels great to use. Using it as a traveling backup for my desktop gaming PC. Would recommend.

My son wanted a new laptop, and unfortunately none of the best buys carry the specifications that he wanted. He ordered this because he could not get what he really wanted. I tried to cancel the order right away, but they said that I had to receive it and then return it to a store. So I did.
