Customers are saying

Customers praise the ROG Zephyrus G14's performance, stunning OLED display, and excellent battery life. Many appreciate its premium build quality, impressive speakers, and lightweight, portable design. However, some users note that the laptop can get warm under heavy use and that the RAM is not upgradeable. Concerns were also raised regarding the fan noise and the GPU's limitations in fully utilizing the high-resolution display.

So far only had it for about 3 weeks and it gets really hot can’t play it on my lap for too long without burning. Other than that it’s good graphics fast processor overall performances is pretty good. The power on the batttery will only last 1 hr which isn’t convenient for a laptop. Not too happy with the purchase. Might return and get something that can last more than an hour of life without being plugged in. Another thing I didn’t like is that with my 2020 Mac Pro I am able to charge it in my car with the power box and with this laptop it’s not enough voltage to charge.

I got my G14 in excellent Open-Box condition, as well as on sale, and it ended up being a good deal since the laptop and charger appeared mostly untouched. It was $1,450 on sale, then I got about another ~$170 off from getting it Open-Box - so I paid around $1,270 in the end. Overall, I love this laptop!! I've been following the G14 for years and already heard amazing things about it, but this redesign takes some parts of it to the next level. I have a lot of specific things to mention, so I will put them below: There is a very small amount of creaking when moving the hinge, but I heard even Macbooks do this and it is because of the plastic near the hinge heating up. I wish the lid opened further back for when the laptop is on my lap, but this is not an issue much. It has nice, very bright backlighting, but would be nice though if it was a bit more uniform as many reviewers have mentioned. It can also be difficult to read the function and special character keys, especially at lower keyboard brightnesses. This laptop has a really good keyboard, it feels amazing to type on overall. A small nitpick though is some of the keys make a creaking sound when resting fingers/softly pressing on their surface. Amazing speakers for a laptop!!! They get extremely loud and sound very clear and high quality. Bass also exists on these. Be aware there are two red lights that flash to the left of the camera when using face unlock. I have not seen this mentioned elsewhere, but I personally find it a bit annoying, and still wish this laptop also had a fingerprint scanner option, as the face scanning can take a bit more time, I've simply found fingerprint scanners to be faster and more reliable - but at least it also has a (decent) camera now (when the G14 launched it didn't have one at all). The laptop has a nice slash lighting design, I like the silver on the lid rather than the white of the 2023 model (also no shinyness or little holes). The white keys aren't my favorite though, but I mean I'm just glad the body is this silver aluminum. It has a really nice feeling glass trackpad, though there is a small bit of force needed to click compared to other trackpads I've used, but not a big deal (but worth noting). I really wish there was a dedicated Home and End key, as well as page up/down, having to use the function key for this is annoying as they are frequently used keys for me. The lid is openable with one hand which is nice. I like the minimal screen bezels, you don't see this often with gaming laptops. I've found this laptop can sometimes take a second to wake up from sleep. Nothing too crazy, but this could be better. I've found that the area where I open the lid up near the camera can get fingerprinty, as that's the best area to hold onto when opening the lid with one hand. In terms of the screen wobble everyone talks about, I actually found it to go away completely when opening the laptop fully, which is the position I mostly use it in. The battery life is decent (and can be extended even more if you decrease the CPU power limit, turn on battery saver mode, switch the screen to 60hz and lower brightness, disable Nvidia dGPU, and enable silent mode), can use with little to no fan noise at some times, can can customize it to turn the fans off entirely if the CPU/GPU temperatures aren't too bad. Great performance!! This is the fastest computer I have used. That is not to say that it never lags though. OLED screen looks great!! I might prefer a matte screen, but this glossy OLED screen is really amazing. I've also heard burn-in should not be an issue as the laptop uses a new Samsung screen panel. I was a little confused when I went to Task Manager and did not see an NPU - this doesn't really matter right now, but just not sure what the deal is with this. This laptop has a great port selection. I wish it had a full sized SD card slot, but other than that it has about everything I would want (ethernet port would be nice, but the laptop is thin so I don't expect one to fit). One interesting issue is that the time was a few hours off out of the box despite connecting it to the internet already, but I fixed that by manually doing a sync in the settings. Now I want to mention, despite the keyboard being great overall, there are numerous small gripes I have with the layout. First, I don't love the small arrow keys. They're not the easiest to use, and I can especially find myself accidentally hitting down instead of up and vice-versa. Also a play/pause media button would have been nice, however there is a trackpad 3/4 finger tap gesture you can set to do this. Despite the laptop getting warm in areas, one thing I haven't heard is that the laptop can get cool in areas because of the 3 fans and the alumimum body (like when first turning on after a while)! One good thing is that I actually thought the bloatware situation was quite good compared to other computers I've used, there was no McAfee or anything installed by default, just the default Asus apps. Do definitely get GHelper as other comments have said - I highly recommend. I didn't love not having a Print Screen key, but isn't a big deal at all since I was able to pretty quickly figure out how to rebind the M4/Armoury Crate key to a custom macro that automatically does Windows+Print Screen - So in fact it is even better now since it's just one key press! And I can just open the software like normal, no need for the button. I also did the same thing with the Home key for the mic mute button, as I have no use for it personally. Now I just need to come up with a solution for the End key. It would definitely have been nice if the USB-C port on the right side could have had power delivery, so the cable doesn't need to be on the right side of the laptop. I can confirm though that under load, the top key areas get BURNING hot! This is not usually an issue though as it only happens when the laptop is under load. They keyboard remains cool though even under load! The integrated GPU is great, it works very well and allows me to play Minecraft the smoothest I ever have (along with the 120hz screen). Even at max keyboard brightness, the function keys are barely lid up as I was saying. I also don't love how there is no function lock, though this is a feature in GHelper. I found it weird how you push volume up and down buttons but have to do function+F1 for mute I wish the symbol icons on the number keys were better illuminated (like I was saying for the function keys) Wish there were dedicated page up and down keys, so I can scroll up and down with one hand (like I was saying for the home and end keys) Laptop can even feel cold under my palms while typing because of the aluminum body The G14 has come a long way, great to have the camera as I was saying Charging brick is on the larger end, but it's relatively thin and light. The cable is also relatively thicker. Has nice camera auto blur feature, though you can just do this through Zoom for one thing Battery has been decent, standby time has been amazing though, I came back quite a while later and was still at 100% I like the slash lighting, not too necessary but it's cool as well as functional for showing app notifications. Has been staying cool out of the box for me with the fan off while doing basic tasks! 32GB of RAM would definitely be nice, however as I suspected the other components as well as having fast memory have not made this an issue for me. Screen wobble can be annoying when closing I think I like this laptop's charging connector more than the 2023 model's barrel connector Trackpad would be nice but possibly could be even nicer if it required less force to click, really just a nitpick though. RGB keyboard looks good in dark environments, though more patchy in lighter ones This is definitely an amazing laptop, I highly recommend it! If you don't need a touchscreen or 2-in-1/yoga functionality, this laptop is absolutely amazing value for what it offers. You will not regret your purchase.
