Customers praise the ROG Zephyrus G14's performance, stunning OLED display, and excellent battery life. Many appreciate its premium build quality, impressive speakers, and lightweight, portable design. However, some users note that the laptop can get warm under heavy use and that the RAM is not upgradeable. Concerns were also raised regarding the fan noise and the GPU's limitations in fully utilizing the high-resolution display.

When I first laid my eyes upon the Asus Zephyus G14 (2024) on Best Buy's website, I was excited by its stand-out design to where I had to get this. What I didn't expect was just how good of a gaming laptop it would be and how lightweight and aesthetically pleasing it is having it in front of me and touching it. First off I will name off the few cons: The laptop is the memory is soldered, meaning you won't be able to upgrade it down the line, but I believe at the current moment, its because LPDDR5X is only available as soldered chips, meaning they will not be upgradable. Until more memory manufacturers start making memory using the new CAMM format, it will be like this for a while and given the form factor and the aluminum material, it does get hot at times. Another thing I noticed is there is a bit of wobble on the screen and lid but really with how thin it is, its to be expected and its not a flaw in my opinion. Also the vents being under the laptop is better instead of blowing up towards the screen, possibly damaging the screen, however, for lap usage, the vents can easily be blocked, I would of liked it it was possible to have the vents on each side. But if your looking for a stylish and compact gaming laptop that you can also bring into an office, the Asus Zephyrus G14 (2024) is it. Honestly, you don't even have to be a gamer. It's a great all-around laptop for people that want both power and portability. On to the positive review! Asus targets for "beyond gamers", and it shows. It's aimed at video editors, creators, programmers, and more. I believe they are targeting casual users that just want power in a slim, portable, and stylish package. I love this style of gaming laptop. It's subtle and sleek, made from CNC-machined aluminum and coming in a color called Platinum White. At 3.3 pounds and 16.3mm thick, it's hard to even believe that this is a gaming laptop at all, but it is. What amazes me is the sound on this thing when first listening to something, it really packs a punch with how loud and crisp it is! It also feels a bit like a MacBook Pro, if you're into that sort of thing, and it's got the power to back it up. It's flat on all sides with rounded corners. On the left side, you'll find a redesigned proprietary charging port, which is meant to be more compact. There's also HDMI 2.1, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, Thunderbolt 4, and an audio jack. On the right side, you'll find a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port, and a microSD card reader. Any USB 3.2 Gen 2 port should get you 10Gbps data transfer speeds, which is nice, but what's really great is that both of the USB Type-C ports support 100W power delivery charging. The good news is that in a pinch, you can grab any standard laptop charger and use it. The bad news is that it doesn't charge nearly as fast as the regular charging port. The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 (2024) has a 14-inch 120Hz 2880x1800 display, which is pretty great. OLED hits that sweet spot of color vibrancy, making your games look beautiful while you're playing them. The 120Hz refresh rate just adds to that. Above the screen is a 1080p webcam, which is great for anything from calls to live-streaming. The audio on this thing is pretty great as well, if you ever don't feel like wearing a headset. The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 (2024) comes with an RGB keyboard that's flanked by its two speakers. The default keyboard lighting uses more subtle colors, which seems to be common in white gaming laptops, as well as gaming laptops that are aimed at a broader range of customers. Key travel is 1.7mm, with 1.7mm space between keys. Asus also says that the keys are 12.24% larger than on the previous generation model, which means better accuracy. Indeed, I'm typing this review on my unit, and it's super comfortable. The touchpad takes advantage of the available real estate on the palm rest, stretching all the way from the base to the keyboard. Using maximum real estate for a larger touchpad is rare, and it's something I point out a lot in reviews, so this one is appreciated. I did my game testing with Star Wars: Jedi Fallen, although I played a bunch of games just to see if the Zephyrus G14 would choke up (it didn't). The default setting it gave me was Extreme graphics, and my frame rate mostly stayed between 65fps and 70fps, with bursts of up to 90fps. It never dropped below that range. I also ran a 3DMark and it scored exceptionally well for what this offers. For my particular use case, the performance was perfect. Whether it's gaming, photo editing, or video editing, the ROG Zephyrus G14 was great. If you're a hardcore gamer, you're probably already looking for something with a more powerful CPU and GPU, and frankly, something bigger with better thermals. But this is the sweet spot for users that just need more power. Battery life was really good up to around 8 hours from 100% to 1%. I actually found gaming performance to be pretty good even when not connected to power, but then again, if you're gaming, you should really connect to power anyway. Here's the deal. With an AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 under the hood, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 (2024) feels impossibly light at 3.3 pounds. If you want power and portability in a Windows laptop, this is it. With its subtle design, it makes a lot of sense for people that have a range of different tasks. With everything mentioned, I would HIGHLY recommend this laptop for someone who is looking for a lightweight portable gaming and workstation for on the go.

I was going to go for a M3 Pro Macbook Pro for video editing but I saw this laptop on sale. So far its been a great experience with this laptop. It does great with video editing and also lets me game. Best of both worlds packed in a slim laptop. Best purchase I've made in a while and I'm so glad I got this laptop instead of the MacBook.

Love it. It’s perfect for what I wanted it for and I love the sleek design and size of it. Battery life does go probably id say the same as my iPhone but I don’t care too much abt that cause I could have it plugged in and I don’t use it as often that constant.

Had the laptop for over a month now and my experience was nothing short of amazing. The laptop has performed well in everything I've thrown at it sometimes even blowing my expectations. I haven't had a chance to test out the battery life on it because everywhere I've been I have carried my charger around with me. I'd say the most amazing part about the laptop is it's display. The 3K OLED 120Hz display with HDR support really looks amazing, I kept it beside my M1 Pro MacBook and could tell the display on the Asus looked better. Another aspect no one talks about are the speakers, I was very surprised to see how loud they get while maintaining the bass. The speakers and display are definitely a few things about this laptop that no one talks about and are really that amazing.

AMD Display driver issues and Bluetooth driver iss

Overall it was a good deal in 1300 when I bought it in December 2024. The main issue is Asus and AMD drivers. For me the Bluetooth and Display drivers created a big problem. For Bluetooth, I was having issues connecting it to the Bluetooth devices like mouse, game contoller, Bluetooth speakers or headphones. Even if it is connected to Bluetooth, it would not show up as external input or output devices and would not function at all. I tried troubleshooting and reinstalling. Tried many options available online and reddit like changing settings in Armory crate and installed AMD Software Adrinaline. The only way for me to use the laptop display was to run the display on external GPU i.e. Nvidia or else the display will be crashed so I had to use external display in that case. While searching online I saw that display crash similar to my case with many other people with same laptop, where it seems the colors are high contrast or seems washed out. I am thinking to return or replace the laptop from Asus warranty.

I love this computer. The screen, keyboard, speakers, and overall build quality are amazing. With WiFi 6, I can stream all my favorite games. Playing them locally in the machine, it definitely gets HOT, and for some reason, a lot of air vents out at the bottom of the display. Hopefully that doesn’t case issues down the road.

I needed a newer laptop that was more productivity than gaming, but could pull off both tasks while traveling. I mainly needed something that had a powerful CPU with a dedicated GPU, but nothing crazy as the heavy lifting was done on a desktop back home. The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 2024 caught my eye as I’ve always been a fan of Asus laptops for quality and productivity, plus the G14 specifically got great reviews with the 2023 version. The refreshed 2024 version seems to lean more into the productivity look with a refreshed case that would make it an even better laptop for travel. Pros: - Light weight and portable. - OLED screen is amazing. - Audio is good. Cons: - Memory and GPU limit an amazing Screen. - Not a USB C power plug. Asus took the successful ROG Zephyrus G14 from 2023 and improved on it with the 2024 refresh. Immediately, you can see and feel the all-aluminum case which has been slimmed down and sleeked out, making the G14 2024 feel more like a productivity laptop than a gaming one. The case has a base footprint of 12.3in by 8.7in with a thickness of 0.63in, with a laptop weight of 3.3lbs. The perfect size for traveling, the G14 2024 falls right into the ultraportable Thin and Light category. The top of the case has a light bar, which doesn’t scream “gamer” on default settings, but I chose to disable anyways as for whatever reason it would flicker while in sleep mode while the lid was opened, which surprised me on more than one occasion. I’m still figuring out the lighting effects in the software. Initial setup is the basic windows 11 setup, Asus does include a couple preinstalled apps like MyAsus, Armoury Crate, and Virtual Pet, but all are Asus software. MyAsus helps with registering and support requests while Armoury Crate is a one stop shop for firmware updates, overclock controls, and lighting controls. As mentioned above, I mostly disabled the case lighting but the keyboard lighting as I encountered some unexpected behavior while in sleep, but the keyboard lighting was simple with easy-to-use controls through Armoury Crate. The Virtual Pet app runs a little desktop pet, that on other models would show up on external case lighting but with only 1 light strip, this software is just an unnecessary add on now. The CPU is the Ryzen 9 8945HS with 8 cores and 16 threads, the big difference is the inclusion of AI Accelerators that help with parallel processing used in tools like Chat-GPT and CoPilot. Additionally, the CPU has Radeon 780M integrated graphics, which can cover most basic GPU tasks, which greatly extends the battery life of the laptop. The model I got has a RTX 4060 GPU which can cover lite gaming at 1080p perfectly, but unfortunately at 2K or above, the RTX 4060 struggles to keep a steady FPS above 60 on higher settings. This is a bummer, as the included OLED ROG Nebula certified screen is amazing with a 3K (2880 by 1800) resolution, a 0.2ms response time, and 120Hz (FPS) refresh rate, but RTX 4060 can’t take full advantage of the screen’s full potential. The rest of the configuration for the RTX 4060 model is where Asus made the cost cutting decisions, deciding to solder the 16GB of DDR5 6400MHz memory without including an empty RAM slot that the prior year’s version had. This unfortunately limits the upgradeability of the laptop, meaning if you want to use this as your primary gaming device, you really should buy the 32GB model to ensure you have enough RAM to make full use of the other components. The included Western Digital 1TB NVMe is a WD SN560 (WD PC SN560 SDDPNQE-1T00-1102), I was able to get a Read speed of 5010 MB/s and Write speed of 3402 MB/s with the drive. This can be upgraded with a larger capacity and faster drive in the future. As far as ports go, the ROG Zephyrus G14 has on the left side the proprietary Asus high wattage charging port, HDMI 2.1, Thunderbold 4 (USB-C 3.2, Power charging), USB-A 3.2, and Combo Audio jack. On the right side is a USB-C 3.2 (Display Port, non-charging), USB-A 3.2, and micro-SD slot. The addition of a MicroSD card is great for content creators, as it saves a USB port from being an adapter plus allows for expanded storage that can be removed easily. Wireless connectivity is standard, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 6E, though the Wi-Fi card can be removed which allows for future upgrades or repair. The biggest complaint I have with the ports is Asus decision to use a proprietary charging port instead of getting onboard with USB-C charging, this takes up valuable port space that could have otherwise been a multipurpose port. Battery life will vary based on your use, Asus lists up to 10 hours of battery life, but I found for my normal use of web browsing and office apps I would get 6-7 hours on a single charge without having to adjust from the default settings. You could probably get close to 10 hours by fully reducing the brightness of the display, but then how productive would you be? 6 hours of battery life is plenty for my day-to-day use. One area the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 surprised me was the quality and power of the included speakers. Usually thin and light gaming laptops have okay speakers at best, relying on third party headsets to do most of the audio work. But Asus did not cut on the audio, the speakers can easily fill a bedroom or small office with clear sound without distorting at higher volumes. The bass is light, but again, I was expecting only okay audio but received way better. For my use, the ROG Zephyrus G14 2024 was great, it was able to tackle all the tasks I threw at it and display my work via the high-quality screen or connect as needed to external displays without suffering performance issues. The CPU was amazing, as it teared through tasks. I did have a few multitasking hiccups due to only having 16GB of memory, though it never stopped me but did slow me down. Overall, from a work productivity perspective, I really enjoy using the ROG Zephyrus G14 2024. Gaming performance on the ROG Zephyrus G14 2024 is good for at 1080p with high settings which will get you around 100 FPS for most titles. I was able to achieve this with Halo Infinite, Destiny 2, and Hell Divers 2, though I did turn down the shadows and lighting effects per my own preferences. For more retro or less graphic intensive games like Vampire Survivors, I was able to get a steady FPS above 60 at 3K but this will depend more on the game and require dropping the settings quite a bit. Unfortunately, as mentioned above, the RTX 4060 really can’t take advantage of the OLED screens 3K resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate, so if that is your gaming goals I’d suggest opting for a higher end GPU paired with more memory, as I found the main bottle neck in most of the games, I played was the 16GB of RAM over the GPU. But they do go hand in hand. Overall, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 2024 with RTX 4060 is a great productivity machine, feeling very high quality and tackling all tasks I threw at it, slower than I would have liked but plenty fast for what I needed to do while looking amazing. The gaming performance is okay, though it would be better with increased memory and a more powerful GPU. I would recommend this model to a professional who needs to prioritize portability but with power behind it and the ability to do light gaming. Though for anyone who would want this as both their primary work and play machine, I’d suggest stepping up to a model with more memory. Still, love working on this laptop while traveling, the look and feel make up for the okay gaming performance.
