Little powerhouse ready for work or play

This 14-inch Asus ROG Gaming Laptop has a bright screen and plenty of power for gaming and a compact but not too tiny form factor. At 12.26 x 8.66 x 0.63 inches and 3.31 pounds, it is small enough to take along but big enough to immerse yourself in gaming or even work.
What’s in the box:
• Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 Gaming Laptop
• Power supply and cable
The major specs:
• Bright screen 2560 x 1440 QHD 120 Hz refresh rate
• AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS 8 cores / 16 logical processors
• NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 (Laptop) GPU
• 16 GB LPDDR5 SDRAM
• 1 TB NVMe drive
• NVIDIA AD106 HD Audio controller
• WiFi 6
One thing that I really like is that there are 4 USB ports. Yep four! Two USB type A and two USB type C. So many laptops now are really short on USB ports. But this one has four. It also has a 3.5 mm audio jack, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a microSD card reader.
Setup was quick and easy. As soon as it was up and running, I ran PassMark and 3Dmark before making any tweaks.
Benchmark scores:
PassMark Rating 9659.0 (91st percentile) (The CPU and disk scores were really good. Memory score was not.)
3Dmark Time Spy Score 9046
Then I loaded up Steam and played a little Assassin’s Creed Mirage (Demo version) and Dakar Desert Rally. Then I loaded up Fallout… The graphics were smooth and bright. The game play was responsive. I lost track of time….
Cons:
• The keyboard key spacing feels a bit strange. I measured it against the two keyboards I use (for hours everyday..) and the Zephyrus keys are just a tiny bit larger. From the left edge of the cap locks key to the right edge of the enter key is 2 millimeters larger. That doesn’t sound like much but it is taking me a bit to get used to. The action on the keys is fine. It is quick and responsive.
• The display is not 4K. This may not be a deal killer, but it’s worth mentioning.
• Wish I’d paid a bit more and got the 32GB RAM.
In summary, while this is a small form factor for a gaming laptop (and it only has 16 GB RAM) it is a little powerhouse. Take it with you on the road or just keep it handy at home. You can work on it by day and play games at night (or sneak a game in during the day too.)

The G 14 is an amazing gaming laptop, with a light form factor that you can take anywhere. The build quality seems premium and sturdy. Might just be nitpicking but due to the thin oled screen it does feel like you should be extra careful with it. The screen is great and gets plenty bright for most use cases. The unplugged battery life is pretty good as well though i do wish it lasted a little bit longer doing non demanding task like watching YouTube and the like. I did get an open box version and believe i got it for a great price , but i wouldn't purchase at the regular retail price definitely try to get it on sale if you can.

A Gaming Laptop for Those Who Hate Gaming Laptops

I wanted something with the form factor of a MacBook but ability to game; this laptop does just that. Battery life isn't incredible and while this laptop can charge off of USB-C, it's limited to 100 W which is less than the 180 W this laptop can use at full throttle, so you're going to be relying on the bulky included charger if you want to run demanding games on the go. I installed Fedora Linux on my machine and it's worked pretty well thanks to some 3rd party tools and guides created by the Asus Linux community. My unit was purchased as an open box unit in excellent condition. There was a dead pixel on the screen, but I was able to take it to the store and Asus replaced the display free of charge and it's been fine ever since. The biggest downside to this machine is that the RAM isn't user upgradeable, which may be a problem in new game releases a few years from now. Overall, it's well performing laptop in a sleek form factor, but not immune to the compromises involved in achieving such a thing.

Great laptop which is lightweight, has great battery life, and handles every game I throw at it. Fantastic build quality and a beautiful OLED screen. Also the speakers are the loudest on the market. The best laptop in its class.

Having used the 2022 model of the G14, this is an incredible upgrade in terms of build quality and the screen. It’s a lot lighter, doesn’t drain battery life when plugged into 100w USB-C charging while gaming, and the screen is beautiful and responsive. While rasterization performance is only marginally improved compared to the 6700s GPU of the 2022 model, it’s a more efficient chip, has much better raytracing/DLSS, and can encode AV1 for streaming and recording. Also the speakers rival my 14” MacBook Pro which is quite the accomplishment for a Windows laptop without extra audio software bloatware (i.e. Waaves Maxxaudio on Dell laptops).

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 is an exceptional gaming laptop that balances power and portability perfectly. Its AMD Ryzen 9 processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 deliver stellar performance for gaming and productivity tasks. The 14-inch 3K OLED display is sharp and vibrant, with smooth 120Hz refresh rates for immersive gameplay. The build quality is premium, and the lightweight design makes it perfect for travel. Battery life is also impressive for such a powerful device. Highly recommended for gamers and professionals alike.

Great laptop, beautiful stunning oled display, blows me away with the quality and colors every time I use it. Wish it was 32gb ram though, andn it gets quite hot on your lap. Battery life is best in class for a windows laptop, and the rtx 4060 basically plays any game smoothly.

Everything is great, but the ram and noise. I feel disappointed that the ram cannot be upgraded which is not acceptable to me. Also, the high pitched noise from the fan is annoying when playing games. It has the harshest sound of any gaming laptop I've ever used. I'm not a fan of headphones so it's hard for me to accept this kind of sound for hours. It's also a little overpriced unless it's on sale. So I ended up returning it.
Overall, I think it's still a great portable gaming laptop. Great size, screen, performance, keyboard, and special light design. The speaker is amazing but the high pitched noise would cover the sound when playing some games, it's acceptable but not comfortable. If there is a discount, the price will be more suitable compare to a similar performance gaming laptop.
As long as you don't mind about price, sound or memory, I would highly recommend it.

A TRUE Leap from Last Year's Model

This is an excellent laptop altogether and a wonderful upgrade from the previous Zephyrus G14 lineup.
First of all, the design is completely changed. Some will like it and others might not, but it is so much thinner than the previous G14 models and also is slightly lighter so it is much better for traveling. Materials on this feel very premium and while I do still think the lid could look nicer I personally think it looks better than the dot matrix pattern of previous generations especially since this one's lights can be adjusted even on the lower models (previously limited to the higher end ones usually).
Performance on the CPU is about the same as the previous years model as the Ryzen 9 8945HS and the Ryzen 9 7940HS are IDENTICAL except for some extra AI cores found on this model. So far I cannot tell what they are used for, but they are there I suppose.
Performance on GPU is a different story as this model not only lacks a vapor chamber (found on some previous models) but it also is at a lower wattage. The 4060 is pulling around 90W max while the previous year's 4060 pulled around 125W max. This resulted in roughly 10% less performance across the board in Performance mode. This is not a huge deal, but something to keep note of if you want the most performance out of the smallest package.
RAM is not upgradeable but the 16GB provided is very fast and enough for what most people would be using this for. The previous models had upgradeable RAM but compatibility could be iffy.
The MAIN upgrade in my opinion though is the screen. This screen is absolutely gorgeous and so much nicer than the 2023 model and the 2022 models I have with me. The display gets around 550 nits peak brightness which does not sound like a lot, but with the inky blacks of the OLED and the more vibrant colors it is STUNNING. I do wish the screen refresh rate was higher like older models, but with the screen being OLED and G-Sync capable there is very little input delay at all so games feel silky smooth.
Overall if you are looking for a sleek and stylish laptop with an amazing screen, decent gaming performance, and pretty great battery life then I highly recommend this model.
If you are looking for more performance or a good deal, then I would recommend to look at the 2023 model when it goes on sale which can be had as low as HALF the cost of this model depending on where you look and what stores have to offer.

Compact Powerhouse - ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (2024)

I’ve been using the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (2024) for a bit now, and it’s definitely one of the best gaming laptops I’ve had. It’s got the NVIDIA 4060 GPU and 16GB of RAM, and honestly, as long as the soldered RAM isn’t a dealbreaker for you, this laptop is a fantastic choice.
Performance & Gaming
The NVIDIA 4060 really delivers. I’ve been able to run demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077 on high settings without any major drops in frame rates or overheating issues. The 16GB of RAM handles multitasking easily, whether I’m gaming, editing photos, or streaming. Even with several apps running at once, it doesn’t slow down.
Storage & Value
What really stands out for the price is the 1TB SSD. It’s plenty of storage for games, files, and media, and having that much space at this price point feels like a great deal. The SSD also makes everything snappy—boot times are super fast, and games load quickly.
Screen & Design
The 14-inch OLED 3K display is truly stunning. The vibrant colors, deep blacks, and excellent contrast make both gaming and media consumption a visual treat. The 120Hz refresh rate ensures smooth visuals during fast-paced action, which is a huge plus for gaming. Overall, it’s a fantastic screen that adds to the immersive experience.
The aluminum chassis feels great in terms of build quality, giving the laptop a premium feel while staying lightweight and durable. The addition of a glass touchpad is also a super nice touch. It’s smooth, responsive, and feels much more high-end compared to typical touchpads. The new Slash Lighting LED feature on the lid adds some extra flair, while the overall design stays sleek and portable, perfect for everyday use or travel.
Battery Life, Charging & Build
Battery life is solid for a gaming laptop, offering 8-9 hours with light tasks like web browsing or streaming. The aluminum chassis not only looks and feels high-end but also provides durability, so I never worry about tossing it in a bag. What’s really impressive is the fast charging with the proprietary charger—50% charge in just 30 minutes. That’s a lifesaver when you need a quick boost on the go.
Verdict
All things considered, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (2024) is an excellent choice if you want high-end performance in a portable package. The soldered RAM might be a downside for some, but with the NVIDIA 4060, 16GB of RAM, 1TB of storage, and that fantastic OLED screen, it’s hard to beat at this price point. The aluminum build, glass touchpad, and fast charging make it a durable, premium-feeling machine that’s great for gamers and professionals alike.

Great for Hardcore gaming and school

I bought this laptop mainly for school but I wanted the ability to play some games it’s been rock solid. The performance is good not great but good. I was able to play hogwarts legacy on low graphics perfectly, Minecraft (Java) with mods was around 80fps with 12 render distance, dead space ran great at low with no noticeable lag, halo MCC ran flawlessly at any quality, hit man 3 ran great as well as Propnight at low.
Once you’re done gaming and you switch to the silent profile the battery life is amazing I’ll be at 50 percent but still have 4 hours before needing to charge. My only complaint is the speakers aren’t very loud and the fingerprint scanner doesn’t always work. The keys are backlit and you can change the colors but they aren’t individually addressable.
Over all I love this Laptop as long as you aren’t expecting it to replace your desktop you’ll love it set it to performance and low graphics and it’ll play anything. Need better battery life? Switch to the integrated graphics on the silent mode and you’ll have plenty of battery life.

I bought this laptop specifically for video editing on the road. I wanted something ultra portable, similar to a Macbook, but for PC. This laptop is beautiful! Its super thin, but has a sturdy aluminum build. I am running Davinci Resolve video editing software and it runs great. This allows me to do my editing in hotel rooms while I'm on the road. I do carry a plastic laptop pad that allows me to use it in the hotel bed without blocking any of the vents. For fun I installed project cars from my steam library to see how it would run. It runs butter smooth on high graphics settings. The OLED screen is gorgeous as well. I'm so happy with this laptop purchase.

This is a great product. It is excellent for gaming on the go. The fan is loud, but that should be no surprise considering the power hungry CPU and GPU. The battery life is good when not playing games, but it pretty much needs power for the performance mode.

Overall it's very nice, fast and compact with a great display and speakers. It's drawbacks are that you can't upgrade the ram and it runs hot while gaming, but that is to be expected for a compact machine. To fix 60% of the heat problem, I upgraded the bios, uninstalled Asus armory and installed G-helper in its place, and found a way to disable the boost on the cpu. To do that you have to change a single registry value to 2 to have the option, but it's easy to find a video online of how to do that if you are decent with tech (basically finding the correct one in an embedded menu).

Uncomfortably high temperatures; RAM limited

This model looks great, performs great, and has one of the best displays and speakers I have ever seen/heard.
BUT when under load the fans are loud, and the temperatures are the highest I have experienced on any laptop, EVER. Despite having 3 fans, the chassis is too small to properly dissipate the TGP which ASUS is pushing to the CPU and GPU. The part of the keyboard deck near the volume control buttons becomes almost SCALDING to the touch when under load.
Furthermore, since the heat is expelled through the vent, it causes heat expansion on the hinges. When under extended use, the hinges creak until the temperature is reduced. This brings durability of the product under question. The hinge is definitely not as sturdy when compared to competitors, like the Apple Macbook Pro 14.
RAM on this model is pretty limited to 16 GB. For a high performance laptop I recommend at least 32 GB.
The power brick is huge and it's pretty comical next to the small laptop. But thankfully it can be charged through USB -C when on the go.

This laptop has been great in the week I've been using it! It is fast for anything I need, has decent cooling, can get good battery life at the right settings, has great build quality, and amazing speakers and display. It is also relatively thin and light, for a gaming laptop. I had a laptop with a 11.6" screen before this that weighed more and was thicker than this.

Bought this open box in good condition for $950 without tax. It came with the laptop and charger block but no cord to connect to the outlet. The computer was also logged into the previous owners Microsoft account but that was easily fixed via factory reset. Battery health was already degraded to around 90% when I checked the max capacity vs current capacity. Battery life is around 10 hours on 70% brightness and with energy saver + eco mode on. Build quality is premium with an entire aluminum chassis that is comparable to Apple quality. The OLED screen was super bright and clear. I had to actually lower the max brightness in ArmoryCrate to save my eyes. There is an anti-glare coating but the screen is still glossy. The keyboard was similar or even better than a MacBook Air keyboard. During regular use, the fan noise is silent and during gaming the fan noise is about the same as my full size RTX 3070 in my desktop. Overall, I would recommend this laptop but only if it’s on a sale which BestBuy commonly has for this product in the past.
