Powerful with Beautiful Display but Can get Hot

Bottom Line: Even though this Asus G14 Zephyrus laptop is super light and thin it still performs as a great gaming and business laptop. The OLED display is really spectacular due to its rich color, contrast and details and this was evident as soon as I started up Forza Horizon 5. Any game with high quality graphics will really excel on this laptop. The only concern I have is that this laptop does get hot when pressed to the gaming limits – see my comments below.
Here are things that you need to know about this laptop’s performance and upgradability
- This OLED display has 3k ( 2880 x 1800) resolution with a 120 hz refresh rate. The Nvidia 4070 supports G-Sync so its game ready.
- The CPU is the new Ryzen R9 8945 HS cpu which has 8 cores and 16 threads.
- There are two USB 3.2A ports, one USB 3.2C port and one USB 4.0C port. There is also a proprietary power port and a micro SD card slot.
- Because the laptop is so slim the rear exhaust vents are not very big so the laptop goes from slightly warm when web surfing or doing office type work to downright hot when gaming intensely. I measured 116 F degrees on the area directly above the center of the keyboard while gaming and running some test. While this wont burn you its not something you will leave your hand on for very long. The top row of keys got warm but the rest of the keys were fine. Note that during my stress testing the cpu hit 95 C degrees even with the fans running on high and the laptop on a flat surface. See the Time Spy photo for temp ranges.
- The laptop comes with 32 gb of 6400 Mz ram in the form of four DDR5 8 gb sticks. This provides quad channel memory which is great for gaming but Note that the ram is soldered into the motherboard and cannot be replaced or upgraded.
- The laptop comes with a 1tb NVMe drive and there are no open slots to add additional storage. Mine came with a WD SN560 drive and it was covered with a heat sink shroud. (See Photo) Accessing the drive is easy and you can replace the existing drive with a higher capacity drive if necessary.
- The laptop has venting holes in the bottom as well as the back. Due to the slim design the base feet are small which means the vent holes in the base do not sit very high off the surface for air flow. When you game or drive the cpu/gpu hard you need to make sure the laptop is seated on a flat surface and that vents are not blocked. If you are using it on your lap the heat is enough to remind you to move it onto something besides your legs.
- The keyboard keys are low profile and feel soft but they do provide decent feedback when pressed. The touch pad is large, responsive and has a fairly quiet click when engaged. Using Armoury Crate you can set the RGB lighting and modes for the keys as well as set the mode for the while LED strip in the lid.
- The speakers perform better than you would expect from such a thin laptop. When playing movies, music and gaming I found the soundstage and sound quality to be surprisingly good.
- There are four customizable keys that can be configured in the Armoury Crate app. They are defaulted to speaker volume up and down, Microphone on/off and Launch the Armoury Crate app. You can also use Armoury Crate to create key macros.
Once I opened it, charged the battery and upgraded all the software and firmware I ran it through several benchmarks and then some gaming to see how it would hold up. The RTX 4070 combined with the Ryzen 9 processor was plenty enough to deliver great results as shown below.

I came from a 2021 Razer Blade 14 and this G14 is better in about every way! The OLED screen is vibrant and responsive. The speakers are on par with a MacBook Pro. The battery life on eco/optimized mode actually lasts a long time when doing something non demanding. The mics with noise cancelling turned on in armory crate are fantastic, even for games, USB 4 is useful to dock the laptop to my keyboard, mouse, headset, and monitor. I wish it would have more VRAM on the 4070, but it has acceptable performance, especially for a laptop. I use it to play games on a 4k120hz tv and on a 2k240hz monitor, it does not struggle with any game as long as i use reasonable graphics settings and take advantage of DLSS or FSR when available.

Really nice build quality, cool to the touch when off, can runs almost anything on high settings while keeping it at 120 fps. Fans are audible when gaming but w noise cancellation headphones it doesn't bother me. One thing about it is that it does get kinda warm even in light use. Found that by using the included adapter everywhere it stays cooler than a 100w usb c power adapter. It does overheat when I plug it in via usb c with said 100w brick.

A Balanced Powerhouse for Work and Play

’ve been using the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 for two months now, mainly for a mix of research work (like writing, light data analysis, and browsing) and gaming in my downtime. Right away, I noticed how well-built and compact it is—it slides easily into my backpack and the platinum white finish looks clean without attracting too many fingerprints.
It’s not a silent machine—when I’m gaming or pushing the CPU with heavier tasks, the fans do ramp up, and it can get a bit warm on the underside. However, for routine everyday tasks, it stays pretty quiet and doesn’t heat up excessively. The battery life is actually respectable for something so powerful, usually lasting me around six to eight hours if I’m just browsing, typing, or watching videos. You’ll want to stay plugged in for gaming, though, since that tends to drain the battery fairly quickly. The keyboard feels good to type on, and I like how the backlighting is easy to adjust. Port-wise, it has the essentials, but if you need a ton of connections for peripherals, you might want a USB hub. Overall, I’d say it’s a great balance of portability and performance, and I’ve been really happy with how it handles both my work and play without feeling like I’m sacrificing much on either end.

Small portable and packing enough power to edit photos and videos from anywhere. I bought this for my travek ohotogrpahy and video work. I mainly.use it for stacking hundreds of astro photos. It does so without any hesitation.
It does get hot so i recommend a pad for it if your using in your lap.
Speakers still blow me away. The sound quality is incredible.

This is the second G14 that I have owned. I bought the 2020 version when it first came out. I was impressed then with what ASUS managed in a small package- but being the first version it was prone to some weird glitches. Network adapter didn’t always connect, issues getting sound to work in games, not the best thermals, that sort of thing. But being able to throw it in my backpack and game anywhere made it worth it.
Fast forward to the 2024 version and it’s a whole new ballgame. The OLED display is just gorgeous. It plays even the most intensive games without the fan roar of my old G14. I’m easily running WSL with many services while playing Skyrim in another window. Skyrim doesn’t even get it warm, so you can imagine how well it handles much more intensive titles.
There have been none of the weird glitches from the 2020 model - this one just works. It’s fast, gorgeous and absolutely tiny so I can bring it anywhere.

To think Asus and their ROG line was a literal hot mess back in 2020, they've really made excellent, rounded strides in the last few generations of laptop offerings. That said, this machine is amongst their most superior; when looking for a versatile laptop. You've of course seen, and probably read many reviews at this point regarding this machine. Excellent battery life, display, speakers, keyboard, really everything you'd want in an "on the go device." Considering you have the ability to prescribe Nvidia Frame Generation to most modern titles, you can still expect and exceed more then acceptable frame rates, while maintaining superb graphical fidelity, again on a phenomenal OLED display. The partnerships in collaboration in executing such a fantastic display can not be overstated; consuming content alongside the excellent Dolby Atmos tuning is extremely pleasing. Last, but not least the device runs unprecedently cool under heavy load. I personally disable CPU boost, and achieve average temps while gaming near 80C!

Best Laptop I’ve ever used. It’s thin, light and zippy and more than capable when it comes to playing modern titles at medium to high settings. The laptop’s sleek design provides great portabllity and its minimalistic branding makes it easy to bring to meetings or any professional settings. The OLED panel is eye popping and gets brighter than most IPS panels. I never found it to be too dim and running at 30-40 percent brightness is more than enough for video streaming and causal web browsing. I would recommend this laptop to anyone and especially if you can purchase it on sale!

This is a very good laptop with an amazing oled screen, keyboard, and speakers. The internals are very powerful, especially for a thin and light laptop, however it’s not the most powerful/efficient laptop on the market. You can find other laptops that give its gpu and cpu more power and cooling, however those sacrifice the design, weight, and form factor. The size is great and portable and the build quality feels premium. Gaming on it can get loud with the fans and the laptop can get hot, sometimes very hot, so I’d recommend to get a laptop cooling fan or just prop it up for better airflow. I mainly wanted a 14 inch over a 16 inch, but I’d also look into some Lenovo legion laptops. The only downsides for me are the noise/heat and the lack of Ethernet, but luckily I have a usb hub. Also, be wary of the warranty drama situation about Asus when purchasing and research the Gamers nexus videos. I bought this with the best buy total membership warranty but if you aren’t, you will have to decide if you want to trust asus’s claims about improving their warranty practices. The battery life is as expected, it’s not great when gaming and good otherwise, just make sure to plug in for longer gaming sessions. I monitor the power draw using g helper, which I highly recommend for simple, quick adjustments.

I have had this laptop for a few weeks now and I and incredibly impressed. I’ve had multiple gaming laptops and all of them held true to the bulky, hot, and short battery life stereotypes. This one couldn’t be further from those. This laptop is incredibly portable and has a battery life of 5-9 hours outside gaming. The screen has also blown me away. The 3k oled screen trumps any other screen in my house. Great laptop all around that I highly recommend to anyone wanting to game and not have a giant laptop weighing them down when they want to bring it somewhere

This laptop went on sale and I couldn't pass it up. Great performance, great OLED display. No issues running most games at 1440p, so I'm happy with the rtx 4070. It's super light weight and portable and doesn't look like an alien space craft. Sure there's always something with even more power but is it worth it, unless your a pro gamer who absolutely needs the maximum everything, I think not. Battery life when gaming is short but that's the same for almost any gaming laptop out there. Battery life is great for anything else. The only con is the keys can get really hot when gaming, other laptops I've seen have similar issues. I can still use the keys but some might want an external keyboard for long gaming sessions.

When the aesthetics (beautifull, especially the white model), the performance (32GB of ram and a 4070), the portibility (ultra thin and 14” form factor), and the screen (glorius 3K OLED screen with gsync!), this is by car the best ultra portible gaming notebook on the market. The keyboard is a dream to type on, and it has the second best RGB lighting (Razer still wins this with its per key rgb.) Do I wish it had a little more GPU performance (like a 4080 or 4090 option), yes. But the reality is that this is much cheaper than those options, and this is way more portible than those options as well! Like it amazing how thin and light this is. And for me i also have high powered gaming desktop for when I really need max FPS, so most of the time this will be relegated to websurfing, youtube video watching, and spreadsheets when I want to be upstairs instead of downstairs in my office. So quality of life factors like portibility and aesthetics and being pleasant to use are more important. And this is seriously the best looking 14” screen kn the market! Something about the infinite contrast of OLED that can’t be beat. And if you really need a few more FPS then just lower the resolution a little and you will get there, the screen is small enough yhat even 1080P looks great on this screen! Feels perfect size when its on my lap, 16” laptops too me feel more like Desktop replacements, where as this is perfect for of you need something in addition to your desktop when you are away from it.

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 is nothing short of a marvel in the world of gaming laptops. From its sleek Platinum White design to the robust internals, every aspect of this machine screams premium. Here’s why this laptop deserves a perfect 10/10:
Design & Build Quality: 10/10
The compact 14-inch form factor is incredibly portable, making it ideal for gaming on the go or working in different environments. The Platinum White finish exudes elegance, while the AniMe Matrix display (if included) adds a touch of personalization for tech enthusiasts. Build quality is solid, with a durable magnesium-aluminum chassis that resists fingerprints and feels premium to the touch.
Display: 10/10
The 14" OLED 3K 120Hz display is a visual treat. Colors are vibrant, contrast is unparalleled thanks to OLED technology, and the high resolution ensures crisp visuals. The 120Hz refresh rate delivers smooth gameplay, and the color accuracy is perfect for content creation, whether you’re editing videos or designing graphics.
Performance: 10/10
Powered by the AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070, this laptop handles everything from AAA gaming titles to heavy multitasking effortlessly. Games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring run at ultra settings with ease. The 32GB LPDDR5X RAM ensures lag-free multitasking, and the 1TB SSD provides lightning-fast load times with ample storage space for games, files, and software.
Thermal Management: 10/10
ASUS has mastered thermal management with its ROG Intelligent Cooling system. Despite its compact size, the G14 remains cool even during intense gaming sessions. The fans are efficient and quieter than expected, which is a pleasant surprise for a gaming laptop.
Battery Life: 10/10
For a high-performance gaming laptop, the battery life is outstanding. You can comfortably get 8-10 hours of casual use, and even during gaming sessions, it lasts longer than most competitors. The fast-charging feature is a lifesaver when you need to get back to gaming quickly.
Keyboard & Trackpad: 10/10
The keyboard is responsive and comfortable, with customizable RGB backlighting that allows for a personalized touch. The trackpad is precise and smooth, though gamers will likely prefer using a mouse.
Connectivity: 10/10
The laptop offers a great selection of ports, including USB-C, USB-A, HDMI, and a microSD card reader. Wi-Fi 6E ensures blazing-fast internet speeds, making online gaming seamless.
Value for Money: 10/10
Given its top-tier specs, stunning OLED display, and versatile performance, the G14 offers exceptional value. Whether you’re a gamer, a content creator, or someone who needs a powerhouse for productivity, this laptop delivers on all fronts.
Final Verdict
The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 is a game-changer. Its combination of portability, power, and premium features makes it the best 14-inch gaming laptop on the market. If you're looking for a compact machine that doesn’t compromise on performance or aesthetics, this is it.

Pros:
- Gorgeous OLED display. The colors and black really pop.
- Amazing speakers. The speakers are loud.
- All metal build. The laptop has an all-metal chassis, similar to that of the MacBook Pro.
- Thin and lightweight. The laptop is only 0.6 inches(1.52 cm) thick and a little over 3 pounds(1.36 kg).
Cons:
- There’s only one con that I have. You cannot upgrade the ram. The ram is soldered to the motherboard. If you are doing any ram intensive work, such as Photoshop, Lightroom, DaVinci Resolve, AutoCAD, Blender, I would recommend getting the 32GB ram version. Otherwise the 16GB version is more than enough for gaming.

A nearly perfect blend of productivity and fun

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (2024) model is an amazing accomplishment for ASUS and is nearly perfect at what it's designed to be - a lightweight, highly portable powerhouse that can blast through productivity or games with ease. It's not the lightest laptop overall, nor the most powerful - and there are things that can be improved, as there always are - but it's a top notch blend that hits all of the right notes. Is it right for you? Read on to find out!
Physically, this device checks nearly all the boxes to be a "covert" gaming machine. The aluminum chassis looks and feels premium and the laptop is shockingly light for how much power it packs. The lid opens and closes smoothly, though it is worth noting that it only opens to about 130 degrees or so, which is fine for me, but it doesn't open "all the way flat." The top features the "slash bar" lighting which can sync to music, show alerts or use a programmed pattern, but as I'm looking for a more covert gaming machine, I will mostly have it off. There's also an etched ROG seal in on the bottom of the top cover - I wish ASUS would have left these features off to acheive a full "office ready" vibe, but they're much better those most other laptops and should work in many staid environments.
The screen is jaw droppingly gorgeous. It fills most of the lid so there are only small bezels on the left and right with a slightly bigger one at the top (which includes the 1080p camera which does NOT have a physical shutter but which DOES support Windows Hello) and bottom to lift the screen a bit higher. The OLED makes for super clear motion, fast responses and DEEP blacks - the picture overall is amazing and must be seen to be believed. Due to the high native resolution, most games (and Windows itself) will not be using the true native, but this is a capable panel (and bright/fast to boot). The trackpad is huge and uses precision drivers - it has a good feel to it and click actions are smooth. The keyboard is lovely to type on and I quickly achieved my typical speed and accuracy ratings - the backlight on this model is single zone RGB though I'm likely to keep it in white. The backlight is fine but not exceptional and does the job in a dark room though it can make the symbols on the number keys a bit hard to see and I'll likely turn it off if the room has enough light. There is no fingerprint sensor, but there are 4 additional programmable macro keys.
The sound is quite good with viritual surround and multiple options. Fan noise is acceptable unless you're REALLY stressing the system and the system doesn't seem to get too hot though the upper part of the deck (sort of above the "F6" key) can get quite warm, this doesn't impact the keyboard usage itself. The bottom has quite a lot of ventilation and is reasonably easy to open, thought it does require 11 T6 star screws two of which are under removeable adhesive pads. On the inside, the only thing you can really do is upgrade the SSD (there's a single M.2 NVMe SSD slot in size 2280 that has the system drive - I replaced this with a 4TB version and used the built-in cloud recovery to re-image it and now I have lots of storage) and the WiFi card (a 6E card that is plenty fast is included).
For ports, on the right side is a single USB 3.2 type A port and a single USB 3.2 type C port that supports display but not power. There's also a microSD card slot. On the left, there's another USB 3.2 type A port and a USB 4 (!!!) type C port is fully functional including power delivery up to 100W. The square power jack is next to that - the included adapter is 180W and not too heavy, but nice to know that you can use 100W USB-C in a pinch to charge / power the laptop (albeit not to the full level that the 180 adapter can). There's also a single, full sized HDMI 2.1 port and a headphone jack.
As far as specs, this is the fully loaded version with the AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS (with 780M graphics), an NVIDIA 4070 GPU (mobile version), 32 GB of DDR at 6400mts (not upgradeable). The included 2280 NVMe is 1TB and fast enough at up to 5 Gbps, but there are faster and/or larger replacement drives if you're interested. The laptop is FAST - it blazes through productivity tasks even on it's quiet/cool "Silent" setting and can play AAA games at great quality settings on Performance or Turbo modes (particularly with the support of DLSS 3/frame generation). I've included a picture of the insides AND a screenshot of a 3dMark time spy run - the only settings changed for the run were changing the performance mode to "Turbo" in Armory Crate.
Battery life is excellent in productivity usage, I'm seeing "all day" type battery life in mixed use (if charged to 100%, I can get over 10 hours of mixed use), but I'll usually leave the laptop in the limited charge mode where it only uses 80% of the battery to improve overall battery life (and I can still get 7-8 hours which is more than I need). In gaming, the battery can be eaten up quickly, with the highest ends game settings able to use the full battery in under 2 hours, but that's true with nearly any gaming laptop. If you want, you can use the integrated graphics for older games and get better battery life while gaming with acceptable performance though that requires a bit of tweaking.
Overall, this is a great laptop that can transition nearly seamlessly from work to play - it's not perfect, and I wish the lid was plain vs the slash lighting and ROG etching (and that the keyboard backlighting was a bit better) but it's the closest I've seen to perfect for that use case in the 20+ years I've been in IT (and longer than that gaming/building PCs). So if you want something that can work all day and play (near a plug, probably) all night, this is a great option! Give it a try today!

I am enjoying this laptop. I bought it for work and gaming, but I will use it more for gaming when I travel. The ROG Zephyrus G14 is a compact powerhouse that punches well above its weight. With its sleek design and impressive performance, it's a standout in the gaming laptop arena.
