Massive Micro-stutters

There appears to be some sort of hardware issue that is causing CONSTANT micro-stutters in nearly every game I have tested. The average FPS is very high but the micro-stuttering is very noticeable. There is a YouTube video titled "RTX 4000 series on Mobile, stuttering, do not buy until fixed (if it ever will be fixed)". Skip to 2:24 to see the stutter I am referencing. I have been trying to fix this issue for a very long time and have tried absolutely everything from drivers to power settings to reinstalling Windows 11. Unfortunately I believe this is an issue with the NVIDIA graphics card more so than the laptop so I sincerely doubt ill be able to get any sort of return or anything from ASUS since I don't believe it to be their fault. Learn from my mistake and DO NOT BUY ANY 40-SERIES MOBILE LAPTOP. It is a shame as this is otherwise a great laptop; great screen, good battery life, relatively low thickness, and fast when not playing games.

Disappointed

I didn’t realize that there was only a 14 day window for returning this item so now I’m just out $1000.00 and wil have to purchase another laptop. This is not the first time I’ve had issues with a computer I’ve gotten from Best Buy and even though I had purchased the membership when I bought the last computer I still ended up fixing it out of pocket. I will not purchase anything else from Best Buy.

Defective product

Bought a previous laptop in another brand, condition open box that failed after 6 months. Bought this Asus new and sealed, and stopped working in less than 3 months. I took it to the store and I am still waiting on the part that needs to be replaced. It’s been 20 days and I am still waiting. I am paying for a brand new laptop that will be returned to me repaired, hopefully. I do not recommend this!

Best portable gaming laptop under $1500
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fantastic laptop for the price, here's a few reasons why (skip to the end for a quicker summary): Pros: GPU/CPU combo The i7 and 4060 are a proper combo for maxing out nearly any game at 1080p, and also work well for non-gaming tasks. DLSS 3, while largely unsupported now, may end up futureproofing this laptop far into the future. 8 GB of VRAM is no problem at 1080p either. PCIe 4.0 support and included 4.0 SSD. The SSD is on the smaller side for gaming, however it is 4.0, not on the slower end either, so a fair bit better than even high end 3.0 SSDs in other laptops. Additionally, it can be swapped out if needed, and there is a 2nd M.2 slot for a second SSD, which I would highly recommend getting at today's pricing. 16 inch 1080p 165hz display Being 1080p allows the display to make full use of its 165 hz display, and will run most high end games at high/ultra graphics at or above 120. In DLSS supported games it'll hit those numbers with raytracing enabled as well. Also the 16 inch display has very small bezels, particularly on the bottom, which makes for a good look. Cooling: The cooling in here is the best you could really expect from a thin/portable laptop like this. Temps are surprisingly low even with a mild overclock and fan/power controls can be adjusted for the right balance of performance, temps, and noise. For gaming I recommend performance mode or silent mode, would only recommend turbo if you have some good headphones, as it can get pretty loud and start to drown out the audio. Speaker/Microphone: Audio input/output is great, 2 microphones on the front 1 on the back, and the speakers sound great and do a convincing enough job of placing sound. Other: Unlike many if not most other gaming laptops, the Zephyrus line includes laptops I would not be ashamed to take out in public. The laptop is decently thin, and not too heavy, and RGB is adjustable and kept to the keyboard. The design is far from edgy, but has some nice touches such as the beautiful prismatic film on the back. CONS: Memory: 16 gb of DDR4 at 3200 mhz would be all you needed a few years ago, but with DDR5 becoming more prolific, I don't see this aging very well. Generally enough for most games, but I have run into bottlenecks on very ram heavy games. Luckily there is a second slot for memory, so it can be upgraded up to 32 gb (or 48 if you want to give up dual channel for whatever reason), but unfortunately the current ram is soldered on and cannot be switched out for something like a 3600 mhz stick. Not really a huge issue, but I recommend getting an upgrade in the form of a 16 gb 3200 mhz sodimm, which crucial sells for 29.99 at the time of writing. Display: 1080p has the benefit of high refresh rates, but gives up the beauty of Asus's far superior nebula displays or even the older 1440p displays. FHD is not a bad option, but the difference is certainly there, and optioning for a 4070-4080 with a nebula display would result in a more enjoyable gaming experience. To be fair, this will likely run you a much higher amount of money, but it would be worth waiting for a price drop/sale on a higher spec laptop, as those also tend to have DDR5 and larger SSDs. Additionally, an older 1440p zephyrus would likely be a great option as well, along with being cheaper, but may not be as futureproofed and can bottleneck the display in more demanding titles (although 2022 models do seem to often come with DDR5). 2022 G14's and G15s with 30 series cards would be the way to go, as 2021 and earlier may not come with a mux switch. STORAGE: 512 gb runs out fast, especially with modern games, but this can be remedied by buying a new SSD. I recommend solidigm or SK hynix (basically the same) for being very power efficient, solidigm in particular seeming to come in at a lower cost with very high performance. Quality: Build quality appears decent and feels good to the touch, but you may be rolling the dice with QA. This time around I got lucky without any physical defects (couldn't adjust brightness until a bios update however), but the first zephyrus I bought had a screen defect, and there are plenty of similar stories like it. If you have the time to return the laptop a couple of times if it ends up being defective, you should be fine. Overall: This Zephyrus G16 is a fantastic laptop that exceeds at its intended purpose. It's subtle design, decent battery life, and amazing thermals allow it to be used anywhere, while its plugged-in performance makes it a serious machine for gaming. It has great I/O, the specs for the price are great, and its weak spots in ram and storage are upgradeable with a little hassle getting the back cover off (use the service manual, videos for the M16 work as well). It can run fast on silent mode, or blisteringly fast (and uncomfortably loud) on turbo mode. Performance mode makes a good compromise between the two for most gaming, as it runs cool and not overly loud for marginally worse performance than turbo. __________________________________________________________________ In Short: If you're looking for a gaming laptop you can take with you on the go, this is probably the one to go for. More powerful laptops exist, but they sacrifice weight, fan noise/thermals, and battery life, along with coming at a much higher cost. This laptop will beat out nearly any other 4060 laptop due to the higher max TDP and incredible thermals, and will run very efficiently on battery power alone if you sacrifice some performance. Just make sure you get one without any defects and you'll be set.
