One of my favorite laptops ever!

I am having difficulty even starting this review, not because of any problem or negative views of the laptop, but just because of how good it is! I suppose one way I could sum up this laptop is that, in the present time, in entering quarter three of 2025, this is what a two-thousand-dollar laptop should look like, feel like, sound like, perform like! It cannot be denied that this is a pricey device. Nor can it be accurately stated that this is the greatest dollar-to-performance gaming laptop in the category. However, no gaming laptop I have ever reviewed in over a decade of doing laptop reviews has ever quite captured this grouping of features that just launches this sixteen-inch screen beauty into a high place of honor for both everyday productivity/school use and gaming. Let’s go on to detail some of those now. First of all, the hardware and build quality of this laptop is basically perfect for what I look for in laptops. Full aluminum chassis, smooth one-finger-opening screen hinge, lusciously comfortable keyboard typing experience, generously sized and smooth-feeling trackpad, speakers loud enough to fill a couple of rooms with quality and full-range audio (in point of fact, the best gaming laptop speakers I have EVER heard, period). A screen with such rapid response and vivid beauty! It is all – just - here! My normal strategy with my laptop reviews is to give super nerdy, in-depth insights into the laptop. In this era of amazing YouTube reviewers and quality blogs, though, I feel like my best served purpose in this instance is to try to convey to the best of my ability the emotional and visceral feeling of using this laptop. When you first boot it on, you are greeted by the deep, perfect blacks of a certified OLED screen in all of its inky glory. The 16” screen brightens with the Windows login page and, when set up, you are welcomed into the use of your device with the handy Windows Hello camera option for login. Loading the home page of this device is lightning fast, the 16GB of soldered on 7467 MT/s RAM and 6700 mb/S speed NVMe SSD work in cooperation with the Core Ultra 9 285H CPU to ensure you have a fantastic workflow experience on day to day productivity tasks. And when you are ready to game plugged in, this machine stands up admirably to the task, delivering triple A gaming at max settings on almost all newer titles tested including Doom The Dark Ages, the latest update of Hunt: Showdown 1896, and on intensive VR games like Pavlov VR hooked up to a MetaQuest two! The fans can get a little noisy, but since it is a larger laptop with bigger fans and more breathing room, they make more of a constant “whooshing” sound rather than an aggravating whine and whir sound that some smaller gaming laptops tend to emit at high fan speeds. At the risk of being repetitive, I just want to touch on a couple more of my absolute key features. First, as a MacBook user (yes, I admitted it), this laptop is a true match in build quality while possessing GREATLY more utility for a gamer-centric laptop user. Furthermore, the device possesses greater versatility in use with more I/O built in, like USB-A ports, while remaining a highly comfortable thickness. The keyboard is also a fantastic one, perfect for day to day typing of essays, emails, or whatever else you have in mind! This very review is being written on the laptop keyboard and I have no greater fatigue with it over my usual keyboards I type on. This also almost goes without saying, but this laptop is NOT an all-day device on battery. It is super optimized with Nvidia Optimus built in which switches the laptop to using the built in graphics on the Intel Core Ultra 9 chip instead to the dedicated GPU which saves power, and it is also capable on silent mode in the Armory crate settings of toning down the power factors overall so you can enjoy about 3 to 4 hours of unplugged basic productivity use. Thus, my favorite way to use this laptop is on Silent mode for the battery savings and quieting of the fans, while switching the screen to 240hz refresh. I know that this is a source of inefficiency, but I just value a smooth display so much and since you are paying for this gorgeous OLED high refresh speed panel, I recommend you take full advantage of it for gaming and non-gaming scenarios! One MASSIVE benefit I found with this laptop that you are going to love. It is capable of charging at partial power over USB-C!!! Yes. You read that right, you do not have to bring around the 200watt power brick and dedicated charger all the time! I hooked up my 100-watt capable power supply to this laptop via USB-C, and it was pulling in the full 100 watts! Albeit, you do get warnings from the system that this is not enough power to run at full performance for gaming, etc., but the scenario I imagine using USB-C for is when I am at work with a laptop and just need to top it off without bothering to lug around a 200-watt charging brick! This is a great feature that honestly takes this laptop above and beyond competitors who do not offer this feature in terms of flexibility and versatility! The ONLY thing on this laptop I can find some fault with is the trackpad. It is gigantic, which is super handy for navigating a large screen like this, but I have encountered some palm rejection issues while typing. Additionally, despite my griping and complaining on every platform I can manage, the trackpad is STILL not being offered with a haptic trackpad option. With companies out there like Sensel creating incredible haptic trackpads for Windows laptops, I would just truly hope that someday one of these gaming laptop companies gets on board with adding one. I know that for most gamers, this is not a necessity, given most of us will game with a mouse. But for those wishing to use a device like this as a multi-purpose work, school, and gaming device, it would be so great to have that option! A couple of other, far more minor complaints are the following: The outside does pick up fingerprints quite a lot; I am really hoping that a company like dbrand eventually releases as high-quality skin to help mitigate this issue. I basically find the slash lighting on the lid to be kind of silly and show-offy, so I keep it turned off most of the time. Altogether, I will give this laptop an absolute 5 out of 5 stars. My very few complaints are so minimal compared to the veritable landslide of incredible features found on this laptop. I am so grateful to have this machine in my possession, and I would highly recommend that anyone comparing a gaming laptop in this category and price range give this one some serious consideration!

G16 Zephyrus just keeps getting better!

Coming off of last year’s superb 2024 ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 the 2025 G16 is another strong entry. While more of a revision rather than a revolution it still packs a bunch of power in a solid and small frame. It is a thinner laptop so it's lighter and easier to carry, just keep in mind if you want a quiet laptop then run it in Silent mode (for browsing or work) and then switch to performance or turbo mode when gaming. Like last year’s model the G16 packs a superb 16-inch OLED screen with inky blacks and amazing contrast. There is also built in software that helps manage the life of the oled screen by dimming certain parts of the desktop if your brightness is set to the higher settings. Speaking of software, the initial boot and setup of the laptop had me stumped because none of the ASUS software was to be found, you actually have to reboot one time for the software to show up and then you can change settings such as the lighting and fan profile. The speakers were very loud and full once you enable the Atmos sound software, I usually run the volume at around 60% because it was so loud. The Core Ultra 9 285H is a decent upgrade over last year’s model and is a bit more efficient, where the real upgrade is on this model is with the NVIDIA 5070 which allows support for multi-frame generation in supported games. This multi-frame generation comes in handy because the laptop runs at a native 2560x1600 resolution which is a bit high for a laptop, I hope future versions of this laptop can run at double resolution rates (1080p+4k) or that they provide a native 1080p oled screen option so we can crank up the settings without giving up high refresh rates. The RGB keyboard only offers one color zone and is nice to type on, it doesn’t feel mushy and the trackpad is huge which makes it easy to use. You do have access to the NVME drive for storage upgrades but the ram is soldered on so future ram upgrades are almost impossible. The 2025 version of the G16 outputs a bit less fan noise than the previous year when in silent mode which is always welcome, gaming laptops aren't really meant to be in your lap so keep that in mind when gaming as it can get hot and make you uncomfortable. The G16 also comes with USB-C power delivery so you can charge your laptop with one if you don't have the included power brick, however if your USB-C charger does not provide enough power the laptop will not be able to run at its maximum performance. All the games that I played on it ran great especially with NVIDIA's automatic settings chooser it made jumping straight into the games a breeze. Overall, you will not be disappointed with the 2025 Zephyrus G16 it is a great revision over last year’s model and I look forward to seeing what major changes they make in the future.

The first thing I want to note to anyone looking purchase a gaming system, when it comes to customer service and support, Asus is always at the top. I have literally had a system from every major manufacturer and I cannot recommend them enough. From their Hands-On support to their one year free of damage protection. Top notch. Now on to the system itself. I have had several of the Zephyrus laptops, and I have always been impressed. Sleek form factor, great RGB lighting, tactile perfected keys, plenty of ports for everything I need, and decent battery life for a gaming laptop. The initial window setup went on without a hitch, and once I was set up it was blazing fast. Loaded up epic games and loaded my first game, and I was up and playing in no time. Beautiful imagery and colors from the OLED screen, and the 240 HZ has everything moving as smooth as ever, pair that with the RTX 5070 and dlss and we were in business with no hiccups. This system is also thin and light enough that I can toss it in my bag without taking up major space and it's ready to play wherever I am. Battery life is typical, at high performance. You're only getting about an hour and a half to 2 hours. Take it down. You can stretch that out. As I noted decent battery life. As I continued playing, I noticed the heat dissipation was managed very well. The wrist area has plenty of room to rest if you're using the track pad to navigate around, and as I just mentioned, it doesn't get hot and stays comfortable. This particular system only has 16 GB of RAM, but that's plenty enough for everything. I was using it for. My major purpose when not out and about gaming, is to use it as a streamer for my main PC to my living room TV. For this, no issues at all, and a great duplication of what's on my main gaming rig. The 5070 the processor, and the ram combination work just fine for everything I need and I haven't noticed any slowdowns or graphical issues thus far. Material wise, always impress with the zephyrus series as they are very well built. One nice little touch is the light strip on the back of the laptop. It's like a lightning bolt. I truly appreciate that little detail. Of course you have all your necessities like USBC and A ports, though you may need a hub if you want to add multiples, but that's pretty standard. Backlit keyboard is RGB and bright, camera is great for zooming etc., and the speakers are very good for a laptop. Internal speakers have come a long way, and the speakers on this system show the fruit of progress. I still use a headset, but trust, these could hold on their own if your headset wasn't available. In closing, this is a great system supported by a company whose customer service I find to be exceptional. I absolutely would recommend it for speed, color, use, and overall functionality. You won't go wrong with this one.

This review is for the AUSU – ROG Zephyrus G16 GU605CP 16” OLED, Gaming laptop with Intel core ultra 9 2.90 Ghz, 16 GB of ram, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070, and 1TB SSD hard drive. Man, this thing has great out of the box performance. Let’s start with unboxing. The laptop itself is protected very well in its packaging. In the box you won’t find much. Just the laptop itself, the power block for charging and some paperwork. The setup is the same as with any new computer running windows. Just log in with your Microsoft account or set up a new one. Download all of the updates and you are good to go. It can be time consuming but needs to be done. The first thing I did was activate the free 3 months PC game pass that is included and started downing a few games to see what this thing could do. 100 GB later I had COD installed. Jumped right in and I was seeing a steady 60 frames per second. The game play was so smooth and lag free. And the display screen is awesome. It’s very bright with deep colors and super clear even in dark scenarios. My first thoughts is this thing is a lightweight, portable powerhouse perfect for on the go gaming. The case of the laptop feels nice and sturdy, has a very good build quality. You will find a kool slash light on the lid when closed. It has a built-in camera and microphone, a SD memory card reader, two USB type-C 3.2 gen 2 ports, a thunderbolt 4 port, 3.5mm headphone jack and a HDMI output port. The keyboard also has backlighting making the keys easy to find even in the dark. And I was a little surprised with the built-in speakers. I mean it’s no concert sound with deep bass but better than any other laptop I’ve had before. This laptop can handle it all, from gaming to video editing or schoolwork. This unit has you covered.

The Zephyrus g16 is a beast wrapped in slick clothing. It's thin, light, and pretty but packs a punch when you need power to get some gaming done...I'm guessing it could be used for work too, lol. First impression is that the screen is gorgeous. It's and OLED so you'll get the deep shadows and bright highs. The brightness is a bit too much for me in my normal usage case, so I turn of HDR and lower the brightness when not gaming - not sure why it doesn't keep the brightness setting prior to switch to HDR like other monitors do. Make sure you follow all the normal OLED care guides and burn-in should be minimal or non-existent. The GPU, while plenty powerful for most games, is hindered by only 8GB of memory. I'm not sure why Nvidia even allows 8GB now-a-days with the higher res textures and AI use being more common. Still, the amount is sufficient to keep you going for a while until game start requiring more VRAM at min specs. The only issue I've seen is that 3dmark scores are below average. While it doesn't really translate much into real game play, it is something I'd like to take a closer look at. I didn't check the specs of the other machines so the ones skewing the average could be either heavily OC'ed machines or cheater who get off on making big numbers. There's no num pad and in the place are some pretty large and loud speakers. They give good separation and give the illusion of being further apart then they are. They won't hit deep booms, but they get low enough to give a good range of sound. So far I'm loving the refresh and can't wait to get back to gaming after some yard chores.

This laptop does it all: entertainment, productivity, and gaming. The screen is so beautiful. I am truly impressed by it and love seeing everything through this screen. I am a little concerned about the 16GB of RAM and the sort of dismayed by the 5070's 8GB of VRAM, but it seemed to handle whatever I needed it for, so far. I do think the trackpad is a bit too big but it feels so nice. The keyboard is pretty comfortable but I wish this had per-key RGB, especially for how expensive this laptop is. The battery life on this is FANTASTIC. I was a bit doubtful because I believed in the talk that Intel configurations had horrible battery life compared to the AMD configurations. However, that was not the case and even the Intel configuration could last me up to 7hrs of mixed use (streaming videos and doing office work). I ended taking this back because there was a really great deal on the RTX 5080 + 64GB configuration that I couldn't let pass. However, I think even this configuration is going to be very enjoyable for most of the consumers.

ive been playing around with with Asus ROG latest Zephyrus G16 and man this is such an amazing beautiful beast of a laptop. with performance with the latest RTX 5070 and intel Core ultra 9. this hands down of the best or prob your best laptop you will ever own. the ability to play game on this beautiful of OLED panel at 2560x1600 this will make other people to look for after seeing this beast of a gaming laptop in action. DEVICE: Rog does not miss when it comes to packaging their laptop, but then again if youre paying $2000 for a brand new high end laptop you want to have atleast a great unboxing experience, im glad to say is thats what you will get with this laptop, the unboxing of the device is simple and the quality of the box is amazing in the hand. Zephyrus G16 support 240hz, Gsync, OLED, 0.2ms response time, with up to 500 nits of brightness and 100% DC-P3 for amazing colors. it support 90wh for fast charging. The body is equipped with sleek Aluminum Chasis and the laptop weight 4.30lbs. the power cable is almost like a bigger brother of an USB C, this the first laptop I ever owned that has that and moving forward I would prefer if companies would make this a standard attachment for charging your laptop. G16 support Dolby Atmos and this laptop has 6 speakers with dual side woofers with an amazing sounds quality that has down of the best quality speakers on laptop by far. I/O you get HDMI 2.1 out, 2 USB 3.2 gen 2 type A, audio jack, SD reader, USB 3.2 gen 2 type C. and Thunderbolt 4 type C with power delivery 3.0. EXPERIENCE: gaming on this has been a blast, all games so far has been above 100+ this without even using heavy DLSS, I played mainly The Finals and visual running on 5070 laptop has been great with zero complaints. Doom The Dark Ages also runs great and was able to test out all the last features with DLSS running and being a single player I have no issue having DLSS and it runs amazing. I also tested Valorant and all time great Counter Strike which where you’ll get most of the frame rates! I havent notice any coil noises or heavy fan noise compared to their 2023 Zephyrus that I previously had. I thought the keyboard felt great and I didnt have any issue reaching any keys at all. response time having an OLED is guarantee to be the fastest so thats also another great thing to be upgrading to this 2025 version. CONCLUSION: if you havent tried Asus Rog Zephyrus G16 I highly recommend it due to amazing performance, with top of the line buit qualtyand innovation that Asus come out with every year is something to keep in mind. for the best 2 weeks ive been testing this laptop to my racing sim rig, gaming monitor and even bringing it to my livingroom to just continue the game on the go. I have no negative thing to say about this product honestly for all the game i’ve tested I came out satisfied, from the look of this laptop, performance and quality. this the laptop to consider this year hands down.

ASUS made such a beautiful machine with this ROG Zephyrus! You have a thin, sturdy built machine with the looks of a workhorse but with just a little flair on the lid and RGB keyboard. It's been a little while since I have picked up a laptop with specs such as these, Intel Core Ultra 9, 16GB of RAM, RTX 5070 plus a 16 inch 2.5K OLED panel capable of 240Hz! ASUS was able to fit all of this power into a thin chassis. There is an HDMI 2.1 port plus a Thunderbolt 4 for display output. With the size, the laptop does warm up quite a bit, causing the fans to ramp while gaming. Playing with headset and chatting, it was pretty much muted out. There is a built-in camera and microphone, but I did not test out either as I was mostly chatting on my headset and grinding levels in the new Diablo 4 season. I was able to comfortably sit and play long sessions without any issues, the laptop is more than capable in specs and able to keep itself cool enough to avoid any slow down due to temps! I didn't crack open the laptop, as I usually do, I like to look and see if there are any options to upgrade the RAM, plus just check out the innards of the machine. The trackpad is huge on this laptop! WiFi 7 has been solid while I play, with the Thunderbolt 4 cable I can always use my docking station to get a wired port, but this has been more than capable of downloading and playing some pretty intense hordes of enemies without any lag. This machine has been a beast! Got the new Destiny 2 content next week plus Grounded 2 later this month that I am looking forward to grinding through with this laptop, plus admire the games on this OLED panel!

Overall, I’m happy with this product. It performs very well, the screen looks great, and the design feels modern and sturdy. It’s fast for daily tasks and gaming, and the battery works properly with good life. The only issue I’ve experienced is that it has restarted unexpectedly a few times without any clear reason. It doesn’t happen often, but it can be annoying when you’re in the middle of something important. Other than that, everything else has been positive. It’s a solid device for the price and a great choice if you’re looking for good power and performance.

This is a fantastic laptop! I've had zero issues with it, the screen, keyboard, performance, and cooling is great. It's super thin and light for a gaming laptop. Runs everything I need decently well, which brings me to my point. This laptop only has 16GB of RAM and is non-upgradable. So for most people, this is not a problem. But it's not really a future proof laptop I would say and can't run some games and programs due to the limitations of RAM. Otherwise though, it's fantastic. I'd consider the 5070 Ti model and above due to this, if you need the extra RAM.

One of the best gaming PC's you can buy. The screen is the same as most of the other gaming PC's, OLED, same resolution/etc. There is a mode button you can use which lets you switch from different power modes. Also the speakers are great for a laptop, light weight, keyboard is nice and mouse pad is smooth. Overall a good PC weather using it for office work/web browsing or hard core gaming.

The 2025 Asus ROG Zephyrus G16 follows the design language of last years’ update with the sleek form factor and external slash lighting on the cover. The 2025 model makes incremental improvements over the 2024 model – namely the upgrade to the 5XXX series GPU’s and some processor updates. My immediate impression is the this laptop was how thin and light it felt for a laptop of its size. It follows the previous design of an Ultrabook feel with gaming bones. Specs Processor – Intel Core Ultra 9 285H - CPU 16C/16T @ 2.5 GHz with boost to 5.4 GHz Graphics – NVidia GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU w/ 8GB GDDR7 @ 1500 MHz Intel Arc 140T 8 core onboard the Processor @ 300MHz boosted to 2350MHz Memory – Onboard 16GB LPDDR5X 7467 Dual Channel (80-68-68-160) Storage – 1TB PCI-e Gen4x4 NVME Micron 2500 MTFDKBA1T0QGN-1BN1AABGA Display - 16” 2560 x 1600p 16:10 (WQXGA) OLED screen @240HZ, 0.2ms, 100% DCI-P3, G-Sync Camera – 1080p IR Webcam with Windows Hello Network Adapter – 802.11be (WiFi 7 Triple Band) adapter / Bluetooth 5.4 Radio Ports – 1X USB 4 Type-C with DisplayPort and power delivery / 1X USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C with DisplayPort / 2X USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A / 1X HDMI 2.1 / 3.5mm TRRS jacks for headsets / 1 SD Reader Battery – 90Wh – 30min for 0-50% charging and 8-10 hours of web browsing and some light gaming OS – Windows 11 Home – a few preinstalled ASUS utilities Design This generation of the G16 doesn’t deviate much at all from the 2024 edition in terms of layout and aesthetic. I have the G14 from last year, so while not the exact same model, I can see a lot of shared/unchanged design cues. The body remains a machined aluminum 6063 chassis that is thin and sturdy to the touch. My initial impression when pulling this out of the packaging was how it felt exactly like my G14, albeit larger. This laptop design does have a very premium feel to it that is not unlike a Surface or HP Spectre or Dell XPS. While this does have some solid gaming chops it doesn’t scream “Gaming.” The only items that slightly give it away are the slash lighting and the full RGB backlit keyboard. Other than that, the fit/finish of the aluminum chassis, the thin profile, and the Eclipse Gray finish presents this laptop as a professional device. As with other ASUS devices this comes bundled with their Armoury Crate software suite. The software allows you to customize the slash lighting and the color effects of the keyboard. The software also shows the status of system components and is the main update center for any hardware utilities. The hinge opens about 135° and holds the its position well. I didn’t notice much difficulty opening it from one corner, nor did I notice any real flexing or twisting of the display panel while opening it this way. The main body is very slim at .69” at its thickest and weighing right at 4.3lbs. The laptop is 13.94” wide in order to accommodate the larger screen, which keeps its bezels very thin on the sides. This years G16 swings back from a mostly AMD lineup in 2024 to utilize the latest Intel CPU’s. This model comes with a Core Ultra 9 285H, which sports 16 cores and 16 threads of processing. These 16 cores are broken up into 3 groups – performance, efficiency, and low power efficiency. The 285H has 6 performance cores, 8 efficiency cores, and 2 low power efficiency cores. For any intensive/demanding task the CPU will utilize the 6 performance cores, while background processes will be handled by the low power efficiency cores. Day to day tasks (web browsing, Word/Excel, etc) can be handled by the efficiency cores as they have a lower power draw, which is important if you are on battery. The onboard graphics card is a Nvidia 5070 mobile GPU. The 5070 supports DX12 Ultimate, ray tracing and DLSS 4.0. The laptop can be connected to multiple external monitors through the HDMI 2.1 port or through Type-C ports (they all support DisplayPort. Your monitor count is limited by the bandwidth each monitor needs. The G16 comes with a 16GB of LPDDR5X 7467 RAM in dual channel mode. The RAM is integrated into the motherboard, and there are no additional slots to expand the memory. This is a little unfortunate since we are just on the verge of needing to move to 32GB for some AAA games. However, 16GB is still plenty for the majority of games you will likely play, but it can be a downside if you plan to use this for productivity or work tasks like rendering, 3D modeling, or photo/video editing. Storage comes in the form of a 1TB PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280 NVME drive from Micron. There is one additional slot available so your storage can easily be expanded beyond the initial 1TB. The display is a 16” 2560 x 1600p OLED screen with a 240Hz refresh rate and a 0.2ms response time. ASUS calls this their Nebula Display. This is a 16:10 display, which I actually prefer since it provides a little more vertical real estate. At this resolution you come away with a 188.7 PPI density, which provides super sharp details. This appears to be the only display offered on this year’s G16. The 0.2 ms response time is very fast among compared to most displays, but it is right in line with what an OLED can provide. The display is very bright with a peak 500nit brightness – more than enough to stay bright in a well-lit space, and easily clears the brightness required for HDR support. This display supports Dolby Vision HDR, and it carries Pantone color validation along with a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut for a very accurate display color. Thanks to the MUX switch and Nvidia Advanced Optimus the display can be driven seamlessly by the 5070 GPU or by the processor based ARC 140T. The system automatically toggles between the GPUs depending on the process needs, the only time I notice the switch is when a little Nvidia popup blips in the bottom right screen corner. Other than that it is 100% seamless. The screen is excellent to watch movies and TV. I took the G16 on a work trip and now on vacation, so I have played several 4K movies from my library, which all looked terrific. The deep blacks produced by an OLED is hard to beat, and it makes the switch back to a regular TN/IPS display that much harder. Games and Benchmarking I ran the G16 through the same series of benchmarks (3DMark Time Spy and Steel Nomad, GeekBench 6, PCMark, Cinebench R23, Dirt Rally Benchmark, and Shadow of War Benchmark) that I use to test my PC’s when I am trying out a new one or tweaking settings. I included a screenshot of my raw results table, which is with the standard G16 settings right out of the box. The gaming benchmarks show that this will be a solid performing system at 2.5K, 1440p, and 1080p. Running on maxed out settings those benchmarks showed high avg FPS that sits well above where most would say a game is running a playable framerate. The aluminum chassis dissipates the heat pretty well and it only starts to feel fairly warm on my legs under heavier loads. The fan kicks into high speed under load and does a good job of keeping the temps in check. It isn’t overly loud, and is fairly similar noise output to my other gaming laptops. There’s a warm spot that shows up near the display above the function key row. The warm spot extends down to the function row, but I don’t feel it from the number row down. For the most part the chassis design does a good job of dissipating and directing the heat of the back of the laptop. Overall, it was an improvement across the board over my 2024 G14, which has fairly similar specs from the prior generation - 4070, 32GB of memory, and Ryzen 8945HS CPU. I loaded up Halo Infinite through Gamepass. The laptop comes with a 3-month Gamepass code, which I stacked onto my existing subscription. With Halo Infinite 2.5K at the high settings looked really good. The in game resource monitor showed ultra settings would need the full 8GB of VRAM, which meant I needed to dial it back to the high preset to play at 2.5K. I played several games and multiple maps with these settings, and using the Windows Game Bar I was able to catch a glance at my FPS. I did not see it below 100 the entire time I played – even with a vehicles and a lot going on in-frame. I typically saw it hovering around 115-120 fps. Dropping it back to 1440p I didn’t see a huge jump – just 5-10 more fps. Bringing it down to 1080p allowed me to bump up to Ultra settings, which nearly maxed out the VRAM allocation. I was still able to hover over 100fps for several games. Bringing it back to high settings brought a large jump to 170fps with lows in the 140’s. In all cases the fans were on full blast, but the laptop didn’t get overly warm. Keyboard and Trackpad The keyboard is a tenkeyless full RGB chiclet membrane design. The keyboard feels very similar if not identical to my G14. It’s a nice typing experience - the keys are quiet, nicely spaced, and are easy to identify with the backlight off. The key travel is 1.7mm which means you actually have some depth to the keys. With the lighting on the keys really shine and pass the light through easily. The trackpad is pretty good, and its large. It sits right around 6 x 4”, so it really is a large touch surface. I didn’t have any problem with gesture registration or finger tracking on the trackpad. It is fairly easy to click it as long as you are clicking in the lower half of the trackpad. Final Thoughts The updated G16 comes with plenty of horsepower in the CPU and GPU department to make it ready for intense gaming loads. The bright OLED screen is a terrific panel and makes the user experience that much better. The overall design of the laptop is very pleasing – I really like the slim form and lightweight design. The only downside to this platform is the use of onboard RAM modules and the lack of expansion there. 16GB is still considered acceptable for any game out there, but time has shown that games will need more eventually. If 16GB is fits your needs, then this isn’t really a problem.

This is an exceptional device. Great screen. OLED is bright (500+ nits), fast 240hz refresh rate and great viewing angles. The keyboard is tactile, has enough depth and keycaps are wide. The trackpad is smooth and large. However, the right click is tricky. The device is thin and light for it's class and battery life is around 5 hours max (if everything is turned down). The biggest downside is ONLY 16GB of DDR5 RAM :-( so no upgrades in the future. If you can live with that you have a capable gaming system.

    Fast Laptop with Limited Upgradability

This laptop is one that would fit a lot of people’s needs and has a lot of great qualities, but there are some limitations that some people might not like. Size, weight, and build quality: The size of this laptop is typical of a laptop of this type, however, the thickness is super thin, especially for a gaming laptop with these specs. It is also pretty lightweight, again for these specs. The build quality is excellent and looks and feels like a very expensive laptop, not that this is cheap, but looks and feels even better. There is very little flex on the screen when it is opened. This is definitely fancy looking and doesn’t look much like a gaming laptop. There is a light stripe on the back of the lid which flickers. It’s the only thing that screams gaming laptop, but it is not obnoxious. I can live without it though and will be turning it off. Performance: Performance is excellent on this thing. There is absolutely no hesitation when doing PC, streaming, and office type work on it. Performance during gaming was excellent as well. I played at the default 60Hz on ultra high settings and saw no frame drops even on complicated backgrounds or action scenes. CPU utilization while gaming was on the high end. It does have 16GB of RAM and 8GB of VRAM which is about the lowest amount you need for today’s games, so there is no headroom there. I didn’t notice any sort of limitation with this. Upgradability: This is where things take a serious nosedive. It has 16GB of RAM and it is soldered to the motherboard so there is no way to upgrade it. While there are two SSD slots, you can only install at most a 2GB SSD in each one. A 4GB SSD doesn’t work. This seriously limits your storage space, especially if you want to install a lot of games. Upgradability is definitely something serious to consider before buying it. Screen: The screen is beautiful, but that is to be expected from an OLED screen. The contrast ratio is really nice with a true black background. The viewing angle is very good but does affect it at big angles. There is a lot of glare when light is shining on it. I noticed that this seems to be the case for all laptops with OLED screens. I don’t think this is specific to this laptop but can diminish how it looks when using it. Because it has an OLED screen, I like to auto-hide the taskbar to help prevent burn-in. This does not work here no matter what I do. I assume this is a Windows problem and not this laptop, but I would expect this to work on a new laptop out of the box. Sound: The sound quality is good, especially for a laptop which typically has poor sound. It has decent bass, good midrange and highs. I have noticed that all my ASUS laptop’s sound blows out the competition. Not sure how they do it but keep it up. It can get loud, so volume is not a problem. Keyboard and touchpad: The keyboard feels very nice with a good amount of travel and a more defined “click” so pressing keys by accident while typing was not a problem. It has your standard laptop keys including a dedicated key for co-pilot AI. I do love the feel of the keyboard and not making mistakes while typing. It is lighted the perfect amount. The touchpad on this thing is huge and sensitive enough to detect your movements without being too sensitive. While the buttons work, I am someone who prefers to tap on the touchpad instead of using the buttons and that works perfectly for me. Again, I love the size and feel of this touchpad. Battery: When using the internet, email, office apps, and videos, I was able to get around 4 hours of battery life. When playing it was only like an hour, but that is to be expected. Gaming always kills the battery, so you really need to plug it in when you are gaming. It takes around an hour to charge. Another really cool thing about this laptop is that there is a setting within the MyASUS app that allows you to set the battery to only charge up to 80% to protect the longevity of the battery. All devices should have this feature. Connectors: This has your standard set of connectors; HDMI, 2 USB-A, 2 USC-C, headphone port, and a card reader. All work as expected. It does have a proprietary power connector so if you are traveling, you will need to bring its power supply with you. I would say the power brick is medium in size. The Wi-Fi connects to the router right away when powering up and stays connected without any problems. MyASUS App: It includes an app called MyASUS that shows you current performance loads like memory and CPU usage, hard drive space used, and battery remaining. You can also do all your system updates including firmware and BIOS. It allows you to run various system diagnostics. It has a bunch of settings such as battery care mode, noise canceling modes (and many of them), TaskFirst which sets up the behavior of the laptop based on the type of work you will be doing (productivity, streaming, games, etc.), and Wi-Fi SmartConnect which will connect to the router with the strongest signal. The app is laid out well and all features of it work as they are supposed to. Asus clearly spent time on the app getting it right, which is not always the case for hardware companies. In conclusion: This is a very nice laptop, has a great look that is not “gamey”, feels great, and performs well. The problem is with its upgradability, or lack of. Decide if you need to upgrade the memory or the SSD bigger than 2GB per slot. If you need to, look elsewhere, otherwise this device is something I recommend that fits the bill. It does have minimum amount of RAM and VRAM, but I didn’t notice any performance problems and was able to play games on ultra-high settings at 60Hz without any hits.

The build quality and Oled screen are the showcase for this laptop. 5070 run most games at high. The only down side for this laptop is the 16gb of ram. If I had 32 it would be top of my list. Especially for the price.

So far a great lap top! It is used for a freshman in college and gaming purposes. It’s light enough to be carried around all day, holds a great charge and works for what we need it too!

Owned 4 of them, Cracked screens unless careful

This is a great notebook, with all-around good specs. I have had 4 of them so far. The screen has been cracking unless you close the lid with both hands or one hand in the middle, slowly shutting it. The past 3 laptops have had a crack in the left side close to the hinge, see photos. Just be very careful and this notebook is great.
