Best gaming laptop I've ever used

There is much to like about the G16. The OLED screen is gorgeous. The keyboard is a pleasure to type on for those that need a dual-use laptop. The Ultra 9 processor makes even the most difficult of tasks seem like a breeze. 32 gigs of RAM. Plenty of inputs/outputs. Some of the best built-in speakers I've heard on a laptop. The RTX 5070ti graphics card is amazing, handling games at framerates I had not seen before. The design of the G16 has not changed much on the outside, and it looks exactly like my ROG Zephyrus from 2024. But the internals have definitely been upgraded, and the move from the 4000 series RTX cards to the 5070Ti has taken a good gaming laptop and moved it into an epic one. I have played a huge assortment of games over the last couple of weeks, all played on high settings at 1440P. Doom Dark Ages, Cyberpunk 2077, Black Ops 6; playing these games was an absolute blast. In most cases I was hitting 60 FPS, and in some cases I really challenged the 5070Ti GPU but moving up into the 200 FPS range on some games (Ultra setting on Black Ops 6). The built in speakers are some of the best I've heard on a laptop. They get loud, they go deep, and they sound great. The fans do come on and get ripping pretty good, but they are not the loudest I've heard. I didn't experience any throttling, even when temps were hitting mid-90's Celsius. I do wish that the laptop had a more premium feel. For the amount of cash outlay, some brushed aluminum or something to give a premium feel and heft would be nice. Next to my wife's similarly priced laptop with a fruity name, the G16 feels a little cheap. The AMOLED screen is gorgeous, but the bright colors and definition of my wife's laptop screen do top it. But fire up a GPU-intense game, and that is where The G16 shows its true colors. A very fun laptop to use.

The ROG Zephyrus line of laptops has been at the top of many people’s gaming laptop hierarchies for some time now. That’s for good reason, they have a slim form factor, made of premium materials, and offer a strong lineup of performance options. Performance: The most important part of a gaming laptop for most people is how does it perform? Can it run your favorite games at a good, stable frame rate? The laptop I tested was running Nvidia’s RTX 5070ti. This puts it where most enthusiasts call the performance/cost sweet spot. The issue with gaming laptops is that their GPU’s are not a 1:1 performance ratio compared to their desktop counterparts. Instead, they have a lowered voltage level usually done to manage heat within the laptop frame. Obviously a full size desktop will be able to manage heat far better than a slim laptop, so gamers accept this trade off for portability. I think its important to know this because that means jumping from an RTX 5070ti in a laptop, to a 5090 in a laptop will not net you a massive performance jump compared to desktops. The RTX 5070ti is the absolute sweet spot. I was able to play all my favorite games such as OW2, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring Nightreign, and Forza Horizon 5 with no issues. In fact, this laptop ate those games up at 2k resolution, keeping 60 FPS or higher in each game on high to ultra graphics settings. For me, that’s the standard. High resolution, high/ultra graphics, 60+ FPS. If your goal is to have very, very acceptable gameplay performance on the go, the 5070ti will do the job no problem. Chassis: The chassis is all metal and reminds me of a MacBook. It has a similar level of build quality and feel. ASUS did not skimp out on the ports either, you have everything you could possibly need in a gaming laptop. The design is clean, minimalistic, and doesn’t scream I AM A GAMER everywhere you bust it out. That’s a huge plus in my opinion. The speakers are also fantastic, some of the best I have ever heard on a laptop. Additionally, the trackpad is also one of the best I’ve ever seen, especially non-MacBook. The keyboard feels great and does have RGB for those that want some gamer aesthetics in their life. For me, the keyboard does a good job for gaming when you can’t bring a dedicated keyboard with you. Display: The display seems to be mostly a carryover from last years G16, and that’s a good thing. The OLED display pops, the resolution is more than high enough for a laptop, and the refresh rate at 240hz is all you will ever need. Combine that with the powerful CPU/GPU with this display, and you would even have a killer photo/video editing combo. The finish on the display is gloss which I prefer over matte, it gives it a more premium feel. Something to note, its not a touch screen in case that matters to you. Conclusion: I think the renaissance of mature looking, well built, high performing gaming laptops is among us. Everything from the all metal construction, OLED display, strong performance, and good keyboard feel, should send this gaming laptop to the top of your list. If you have been on the fence for a while, now is a great time to jump into high end PC gaming on the go. There are great options out there, and honestly, this might be the best one currently.

I've been using this for the last few days and I have to say it's one of the best gaming laptops I've used. The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 dials back the gamer bro look that so many others have and made this into a device 8 can use personally and professionally. It's an all metal build that matches the quality of a certain fruity company. The glyph on the top of the casing is tasteful and gives it that look of it's not just another laptop. The build quality is fantastic, no flexing, no creaking, you can pull open the screen with one hand, the hinges are buttery smooth. As far as build quality goes this is right up there with the best quality laptops. The typing experience is also really nice. The keys do not feel mushy and again I didn't notice any flex in the top deck like you can get with others. The speakers are some of the best I've heard on a Windows machine. They flank each side of the keyboard and fire upwards so you get all the sounds unlike many others who use bottom firing speakers. The display is on another level. It's an OLED 240hz display and everything just looks good. Fron the static desktop to ripping through demons on Doom: The Dark Ages. The black are obviously as black as can be and the vibrancy is just right. Everything just pops on the display. It's definitely one of the nicest displays I've used on a Laptop. It's very much the quality of my desktop Asus ROG OLED monitor. If visuals are a priority then this display will meet your expectations Using the series 2 ultra core 9 and the RTX 5070ti you have plenty of power. Fron editing on Davinci Resolve to screaming around the track on Forza Motorsport it seems to do it all on really high setting with little strain. The 5070ti is much better than I expected. Obviously laptop GPUs are not the same as the desktop counterparts but the GPU really can crank out some wonderful graphics while maintaining smooth frame rates. I also didn't get any issues with heat. I played Battlefront 2 for a solid 2 hours and didn't notice anything slowdown. I'm not going to list out all the specs as Best Buy have all that listed above. But know that this is one of the best 16" laptops on the market today, whether for professional use or purely personal gaming use. It really does tick all the boxes for me and I think you'll love it

The very best gaming laptop you can get right now

This thing is a true king in gaming laptops right now. The specs are everything you need and then some. 240hz OLED screen is just beautiful and the colors really pop. Paired with a 5070ti GPU keeps the frames quite high. I run a 7900XTX 24g on my desktop and this mobile GPU goes neck and neck with it. It does get a little warm when gaming but well within reason and keeps running along like a champ. With 32gb Ram plenty for anything you can throw at it and the new i7 hasn't hit full use yet. I can run The Finals at an easy 200fps on this thing and it just looks buttery smooth. WiFi 7 makes sure I can get the best speeds but also has onboard 2.5g nic for those of you that prefer a hardwire connection. PCI Gen5 Nvme means file transfers are insanely fast along with minimal boot times (talking seconds here). Battery on this thing will blow your mind. I can get 6-7 hours of usage (not gaming mind you) so I'd cut that estimate in half or more for actual gaming. One feature that really stands out is the RGB on the outside of the case which can be programmed and can let you know how charged the battery is on a quick glance, super helpful if you are on the go. Weight is pretty light and this thing is so thin I don't know how they packed this much power into something so sleek. I have nothing bad to say about this thing, it really is a king gamer laptop. If it's in your budget, stop looking get it.

This gaming laptop is fantastic for the form factor. A Thin and powerful gaming laptop. Is isn't the most powerful gaming laptop but thats fine. It is premium feeling and looks classy as well. Specs: 16 Inch OLED 240 HZ 2.5K Display 32GB DDR5 Memory 1TB SSD Nividia 5070 Ti 12GB ( VRAM) Intel Core ultra 9 285H This laptop once you set it up looks amazing. The OLED screen is top notch in general and great for a gaming laptop. Never have used a screen like this on a gaming laptop i am used to IPS panels. I mostly play older games so for those this computer has no issues running the game at the highest resolution it can. with the 12GB of VRAM and a 2.5k Display i won't be able to get the power enough to run modern games at the screen refresh rate but you can run a lot of modern games at the native resolution at a respectable frame rate or lower the graphics or resolution for a faster frame rate. Just be warned with this ne chasis that ASUS is using they have solidered on the RAM so you're stuck with what you buy. It used to have 1 slot avaliable but no more.

Unable to play POE2 at max settings

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this laptop with high expectations, mainly I wanted to be able to run Path of Exile 2 at max settings comfortably. I followed all the steps setting up this machine, installed all windows updates and graphics drivers, updated bios, everything. I even tweaked some settings and monitored temperatures. The machine I received may have been defective. It reached 98F regularly, experienced thermal throttling, and had white flashes on the screen when games were minimized. It could barely run POE2 on max settings, certainly not with DLAA enabled. The FPS would dip severely and the game stuttered about as bad as my 1070 ti desktop. Unbelievable for a machine 4 generations newer and considering the cost. Returned.

      Dear WouldBeGamer,

      Thank you for your feedback.

We do understand your disappointment with this laptop and the inconvenience this may have caused if it did not meet your expectations. POE2 plays smoothly on this laptop at maximum settings. If all updates were installed and the issue persisted, either Windows is corrupted or this is a random hardware issue. To resolve the issue, try to perform a factory reset and after a successful factory reset, install all updates, including the most current Armoury Crate utility software. For helpful tips on how to perform a factory reset, please follow the instructions posted at:  https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1013063/ . You may need to reconfigure your system, game and performance mode settings using the most current Armoury Crate utility version, ensure not to go beyond the game's threshold.. If problem persists, we recommend you send the product in for service to determine if this is a hardware issue so this may be resolved immediately. An RMA number is required to send it in for service. For RMA details, please go to: https://www.asus.com/us/support/article/818/.

For a 5070 laptop Priced at 2600 is crazy I would honestly wait till black friday or go with the 4070, or build your own laptop or computer tower. Prices should not be this expensive, hopefully they lower it down.
