Really Good Powerhouse Gaming PC
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been playing on the Asus - ROG Zephyrus G16 for the past couple days. Here are a few of my impressions so far. First, this feels like a premium build laptop. When I first picked it up, it looked and felt like I was hold a MacBook. I really like the aluminum build and it has some cool lighting options on the rear lid. It's super thin, has multiple USB and USB C ports along with HDMI and microphone input. I like that all the ports are on the side of the laptop as opposed the rear. Just makes cord management way easier. The keyboard layout feels good to use, although the track pad will need to be adjusted for most. I had to press as far left as possible in order to make a click on something on the screen. If I pressed the middle at all, it wouldn't take. The speakers sounded really good too. They don't have that muffled volume that many low quality speakers have. It can get pretty loud too, which is a good thing when I talk about the fan volume. The biggest pro for me is the screen. My games looked absolutely beautiful. This is my first experience with an OLED 240HZ screen and WOW! The boldness of the colors, the blacks are super deep. I play a ton of first person shooters and the clarity of the environments and movement of enemies was just clearer. It's so hard to explain in text. It just looks amazing and improves the gaming experience so much. So I had some big issues with the actual gameplay. When I first booted up the PC, download steam and started playing I was experience HUGE framerate drops. Like from 120 to 15. It honestly made games unplayable. I tried updating all driver, bios, Armoury Crate and nothing made a difference. I was emailing back and forth with tech support. Finally I just wiped the PC and redownloaded everything. After I did that I stopped experiencing frame rate drops and everything has been running incredibly smooth. I am constantly running at above 120 fps. Everything looks gorgeous but the fans do make it sound like an airplane is taking off in my bedroom. I did take off a star mainly because I have had two game crashes in about 5 hours while playing. I dont know if it was the PC or the game itself. Overall, it's a great gaming PC. You'll have more than enough power to play every game imaginable and you'll be future proofed for many years to come. Even with some of my gameplay issues that were resolved, I would still recommend checking out the ASUS - ROG Zephyrus G16.

Screen flickers when changing the brightness

The upper part of the screen flickers when changing the brightness. Amory Crate was being annoying and didn't want to change the keyboard lighting. Needed to reinstall Armoury Crate. Turned on the Aura Wallpaper background cause it seemed cool. But then It refused to deactivate when I flipped the switch to off. Was forced to restart the laptop to get it to register my off-input. A nightmare in every possible way. Run

Looks beautiful, all the bells and whistles, hope it’s going to be a dream. Far from it. Video card issues. Color/saturation issues. WiFi issues. Battery overheating issues. Now the audio has suddenly stopped working and it has been weeks of troubleshooting and updating drivers. All the previous problems still happening as well. When you search for these issues on Reddit, you are quickly introduced to the fact that TONS of people experience the same nightmare. Not an isolated incident. Happy for the folks with operable machines here, but I beg you to not trust the good reviews and save yourself the time, money, and headache by trusting this one. I can’t think of a single aspect of the device that has functioned as intended without constant troubleshooting. Run.

All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections that ensure each one is trouble-free. Issues you are experiencing with this laptop are random that can be resolved by ensuring Windows, drivers, BIOS and applications are updated. If all troubleshooting tips were followed to no avail, Windows is possibly corrupted, perform a Cloud Recovery to resolve. For helpful tips on how to do a Cloud Recovery, please visit our Product Support page at:  https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1048106/ . Regarding your concern about thermal issue on the battery. It is normal for laptop, with the same hardware configuration and regardless of the manufacturer, to generate more heat than normal while under heavy load especially during gaming, WINDOWS Update and antivirus scan. When system resource utilization is high, this will generate more heat than normal and tends to trigger the fan to spin at full throttle. Please ensure the air ventilations are free from obstructions in order to have an efficient air flow for better heat dissipation. While gaming, please ensure no resource hungry applications are running in the background, this will definitely spike the temperature. The heat or temperature does decreases or normalizes once system resource utilization goes down.
If problems still exist after doing all troubleshooting tips, we recommend you send the product in for service to determine if this is a hardware issue so this may be resolved immediately. The performance is... mediocre. Screen rez is pretty good. The battery life is but a couple hours on the lowest settings. That doesn't really feel good to be honest. If you do game you basically have to have it plugged in.

Additionally, configure your performance mode in the Armoury Crate utility software, ensure your settings are not beyond threshold. The heat or temperature does decreases or normalizes once system resource utilization goes down. If you are experiencing slow system performance, check if Windows, drivers and applications are up to date. While accessing web applications, please ensure the laptop has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since this will definitely affect system speed and performance. If these steps were already performed to no avail, please try to run a diagnostics or optimization test using the "My ASUS" utility software or application. WARNING TO BUYERS!! Defects and lack of support!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This laptop has a well known defect that the OLED screen will crack under very minimal pressure due to mismanagement with the thermals which leaves the extremely thin screen vulnerable to cracking. THIS IS THE WORST PART: when you buy you’re laptop from best buy market place, neither bestbuy nor asus want to take responsibility for the device. Best buy refuses to repair the laptop or honor its warranty. This laptop should come with 1 year of accidental damage protection on top of the warranty but bestbuy does not honor that. On the Asus side, they will charge you hunderes of dollars for a repair that is very clearly a manufacturing defects and not customer induced damage. If you want proof of this issue look up “G16 screen crack” and you will see the huge swath of people with the same issue. Asus customer service is atrocious, they take forever to replay and do anything to make you pay for a rapid that you are not responsible for. Asus needs to take accountability for the design defect in this device or at the bare minimum honor their own warranty on the device. I just purchased this laptop and it immediately cracked with no external damage at all. I am at a total loss of what to do as no one wants to help or bear responsibility. You should just be aware that this could happen to your device before making a purchase.
