This laptop was averaging 4.5 stars here when I bought it, so I was expecting an above-average experience, but wow, it was just one problem after another. First, the build quality... coming from ThinkPads, Dells Inspirons, and Macbooks, this thing feels cheap and plasticky in comparison. It doesn't even sit fully flat, with one corner bent slightly up such that the keyboard is ever-so-slightly wobbly. There's significant flex in the keyboard itself, and the keys feel mushy, especially near the center. Definitely nowhere near ThinkPad or Inspiron quality. It's at least better than the old "butterfly" Macbook keyboards, but not by much. The keyboard is also off-center, meaning the touchpad sits under the "j" and "k" keys instead of "g" and "h" like normal. This means your right palm is constantly palming the touchpad and potentially moving the cursor when you're just trying to type. Now, onto the actual usage... HOLY. C***. THAT. FAN. IS. LOUD. It sounds like a hairdryer on Medium, ALWAYS. At first it was relatively quiet (though still audible) during periods of low use, but after a forced BIOS update, it seems to run at 100% now and I can't think. There's no way to turn it off, and the Armoury Crate bloatware that came with the computer doesn't do anything anymore (switching profiles no longer works, and the fan shows 0 RPM and 0 dB even though it's churning like crazy.) The keyboard light is really annoying, constantly changing lights and patterns while I'm not doing anything. I tried to switch the lighting profile and it seems to have worked at first, and then it switched back after a few seconds by itself. Who knows why? Also, if you accidentally hit FN+arrow left/right, it'll put the keyboard into a different lighting profile again. Really annoying. To make things worse, when the laptop is asleep, the keyboard backlight still flickers in this sporadic, crazy pattern, almost like it's experiencing power surges every few seconds. It's not a gentle pulsing glow or anything like that, but like a dying fluorescent light. I was hoping to use this system for gaming, but oh GOD, this fan is so terribly obnoxious that I can't even think straight anymore. It's like acoustic torture. I have to end this review early because I can't stand this anymore. I don't know if this particular unit was a lemon or if Asus really just got that much worse over the years, but this is the worst laptop experience I've ever had, by far.

The only thing that is bad with this laptop it does not come with a camera for school.

I've had this laptop almost 2 years and it has been a disaster. I took the laptop in for warranty work after the laptop continued to overheat. That didn't resolve the issue and now I'm stuck with a laptop out of warranty that overheats and cannot run games at a stable framerate. I will not buy Asus Laptops again. i wish i had bought a extended warranty because I'm stuck with this piece of junk now.
