Great gaming laptop, easy to use and great quality

I recently bought my first (and last!) ASUS in this model. Out of the box, at first glance everything seemed fine. But I did notice the AC adapter was significantly smaller than my last gaming laptop, and didn't get very hot. I thought this was a technological improvement, but boy was I wrong. The second I tried to play a graphically intensive (but still five years old) game, I iinstantly dealt with screen flickering as the system constantly flashed the message "on battery" immediately followed by "plugged in", and would repeat ad nauseum until the fans were deafeningly loud. In addition, the system is bogged down by bloatware such as Armoury Crate, which controls your GPU and performance settings. Sounds okay, but it uses way too much CPU and also takes too much effort to set up manual controls and profiles. Assume for a moment that I'm not an idiot and 1) had my adapter pushed in all the way, 2) I looked up my adapter to make sure I was sent the correct one, and 3) I troubleshooted online and in the settings. My experimentation helped with the flickering but did not fix the battery/plugged in issue. I looked online and others have also had this issue. There is no solution besides sending it back to ASUS and hoping you don't get a defective machine again next time. This is unacceptable for something I paid $1600 for. It's clear that the adapter I was sent was either a dud or just doesn't provide enough power for anything intensive. Either way, a defective product is unacceptable. After reading about ASUS' nightmarish returns process, I just decided to return the laptop to the store rather than trying to get a new adapter. In my mind, if I spend that much money and it doesn't work perfectly right out of the box, I'm not going to bother with it. After returning this trash, I spent an extra $200 and bought the Acer Predator Helios instead. Runs like a dream, bigger screen, has a number pad (seriously, why is the keyboard on the Zephyrus so comically small?), and the adapter is actually big and bulky, like it SHOULD be considering these computers have DOUBLE DIGIT CORES. As an interesting anecdote, when I returned the laptop, the guy working the returns counter said "we have quite a few returned Zephyrus models in the open box section". Hmm. Looks like ASUS sent out a defective batch. ASUS clearly cheaped out on this one and I will tell everyone to avoid their brand. Do yourself a favor and buy the Acer I mentioned. Same specs, minimal bloatware, and much smoother running.
