Customers are saying

Customers commend the ROG Zephyrus M16 for its impressive performance, stunning display, and crisp graphics. However, some users report experiencing significant fan noise and heat generation, particularly during gaming. Concerns were also raised regarding battery life and the keyboard's design. While the lightweight design is appreciated, potential buyers should consider these trade-offs.

Bad things first. Very noisy on turbo mode. Has no gsync. Cannot put aftermarket rams. Came with weird colors on the screen edges from factory, like it was pressed. Rest for the price it’s a strong gaming laptop with a bright screen that’s got the job done. Oh yeah, dark scenes in games were just too dark and I couldn’t do anything about it

Let me just start with saying this laptop is everything you need and then some. It’s an absolute unit! The design of this laptop is very stunning. It’s definitely a looker. It’s sleek and has that gamer aesthetic. Only thing is with the black it does have more of a matte finish which in turn is a magnet for fingerprints. But don’t let that sway you because that would be shallow. Even the packaging is top notch! When you finally open it. Oh boy you see that beautiful 16:10 display. When I heard about it I was thinking it’s either going to be weird or not make a difference. Boy was I wrong it makes the screen just feel huge and more immersive. The display itself it beautiful. The colors are great and the brightness is amazing as well. The refresh rate being at 165hz is great. It is so smooth. Whether you are it intense battle in a match or scrolling the web. This display is amazing. And the resolution has every detail just super crisp! I wouldn’t trade this display even for a 4k. One thing I am super happy about them having on this laptop is a webcam. In the world of Virtual Meetings is almost a necessity to have a webcam. Them including it made me super happy. Granted it’s only 720p but having it there is a must. The IO is great you have a full HDMI, Ethernet, USB, USB C, Headphone Jack, and a Micro SD card reader. Yup an actual micro SD card reader. The keyboard is great. It’s pretty wide and has big keys. So going from a gaming keyboard to this it took little getting used to, but when you do it’s fantastic. Trackpad is good and responsive and fairly large as well. But let’s talk about what you are here for gaming. The games I tested were Rainbow Six Siege, Apex Legends, and Division 2. All the games I ran at the full display resolution 2560x1600. Rainbow Six Siege I got 170fps on Ultra setting , Apex Legends I got 125fps on Ultra settings, and Division 2 I got around 80-90 on High Settings. Division 2 is especially impressive due to it being notoriously hard to run. Especially at such a high resolution. Even on my desktop I can barely get 120. This machine rips through games. And when it does those fans kick on. The fans are pretty loud but not out of the ordinary. But it’s virtually silent when you are doing regular tasks. This machine is stacked! It’s thin and light for how much power is packed into this thing. Whether you are gaming, editing video, rendering graphics, or any other job this this has the horsepower to do it. Only thing I don’t like is that I didn’t have it sooner.

Went from Zephyrus G15 (Ryzen 5900hs, RTX3070) to this 2022 M16 w/ 3070Ti. Screen quality is about the same (great!), but in addition I get 16:10 aspect ratio which is much better for productivity work (IMO). In low power mode, it's reasonably quiet. When I need performance, this is currently probably the most powerful laptop processor out. The 3070 Ti is roughly equivalent to a higher powered 140W 3070, but you also get the addition lf TB4 which you don't get on the G15. If you need longer battery life because you'll be unplugged and without access to an outlet alot, then G15 is the way to go. Otherwise, 2022 M16 is worth looking at. Note that the top surface of the palm rest area is rubberized, and not everyone likes that. I slapped a skin on it and it will help avoid the shiny spots from palm rub and what not. Both G15 and M16 have 1 ram chip soldered, so if you end up with an 8GB soldered chip, you can only get 40GB max (8GB + 32GB sodimm), but apparently may lose some performance due to not being perfectly dual channel or quad channel. 2022 M16 has Intel NIC, whereas 2021 apparently had a MediaTek or something.

Bought this approximately 3 years ago and I'm enjoying it very much up till this day. I had some concerns initially especially about the fans blowing onto the screen when doing intensive tasks but you can feel free to have a peace of mind - I've been gaming almost everyday and there is no damage whatsoever. The performance is good, I play Apex Legends and I'm able to run it at max fps without the chassis getting super hot. Very pleased with the purchase, I even recommended it to my brother and he got the newer version the next year. The design is pretty slick - not to gamery but also on the business-stylish a bit as well. 10/10 would recommend.

So far after a month of heavy gaming and video editing my M16 has been a very positive one! For the small form factor it packs a great punch for both the gaming and editing. I also added a 2TB 990 Pro for a total of 3TB and after open box pricing I am all in for about $1150 after tax. For that price you absolutely can not come close to it's performance with its 12900h and 3070ti. I do wish that it didn't have half of its memory soldered on so that when I do decide to upgrade its 16gb 4800mhz memory, I wouldn't have to waste a memory module. That being said if you get the 16gb memory option like mine the max you can expand to is 24gb. The 165hz 1600p panel and powerful internals makes this an awesome gaming and editing laptop and since it isn't a desktop replacement it isn't too big to have with you carrying around all day. Games I play BF2042, Warzone, Flight Sim 2020, DCS World, Madden 24, League of Legends, CS:GO, Star Wars Survivor, Forza Motorsports 7, iRacing, Halo Infinite. All of these games I can play at either max settings or close to it at the native 1600p screen resolution. Hope this review helps! Oh and if you are debating getting this version or the newer one that has the 4060 they are very very close in comparison so personally! I would save the money and go this route. I have built, programmed, edited, modded and serviced computers for over 20 years.

Best laptop I’ve ever owned. It’s powerful, fast, and not nearly as hot as my last laptop. It’s not the quietest machine in the world but I like knowing that my airplane engines are in take off configuration when they’re lifting off so it’s not so bad. Battery life is also a considerable improvement; but be reminded it IS a gaming laptop and you should plug in for maximum performance

Great laptop (performance, look & feel) except for some glaring issues. Some significant light bleed around the corners, low TDP GPU that isn't nearly as performant as what I expect for a 3080, and finally - a very odd design choice to vent the hot air across the entire bottom of the screen vs under it/on side/bottom. The hinge for the display pivots it down vs just opens it leaving a slot for the air to pass underneath. In the end, had too many issues but luckily have TotalTech subscriber and they set my device for replacement. Not against another Asus, great company, but will be much more careful on design.

A little on the hot side but expected with how slim it is. Beautiful machine and the accents on the lid are marvelous. Machine idles around 70C on silent mode and during RDO gameplay at max settings w/ DLSS I average around 95 fps and 90C. Fans get loud at about 52db, however the microphone audio filtering works really well. My teammates on discord don't hear the fans and if your headphones have a decent seal you probably won't here them either. The ram is a bit of an issue, win11 uses alot at idle so I ran a debloat and tracking disabler script, and disabled a ton of services some of which you might want but it helped a bit. I plan on getting a sodimm to increase the memory. Since it's ddr5 it should not suffer from the single channel issues that ddr4 could have Fingers crossed it works well.

Got the laptop for my fiance so she can join the mining operations. It works great. Runs majority of modern games between 60-120fps. Battery doesnt last as long as one would hope and it does get quite warm. The metal between the keys can be very hot. That's the price you have to pay for gaming on a laptop.

Pro- Powerful laptop which is a solid choice for someone who likes to game on the go. I am able to run 800 player lobbies in Rust on this machine with no issues! Con- Gaming laptops will have a lot of noise from cooling fans due to the amount of power crammed into a small space. The keyboard gets hot but a simple external keyboard (or running in silent mode) can address that small critique.

I did a bunch of research before purchasing a new laptop. I’m not a huge PC gamer but do buy the occasional Triple A pc game. I do play my PS5 and my Xbox series X on my laptop occasionally and both run perfectly. Taking all that in account I wanted to be able to have a laptop that not only fit in my backpack, but was not too heavy and could handle the processing Needed to run the games that I like to play and still be able to do all the word processing and all of this homework stuff for the kids. The ROG definitely hits the mark. It’s fast light and has more than enough power to handle any game I’ve downloaded. To be honest the only thing that I would change about it if I could was, I would give it a bigger battery pack but as things are the power bricks not huge and everywhere I use it has an outlet, so I just keep it plugged in.

    2022 ASUS M16 - Simply Outstanding!

Having owned several laptops over the years I have experienced a wide range of performance and quality frustrations. It seemed no machine could hit the right blend of features and build quality. There was always something that didn’t quite work right. The ASUS M16 (GU603ZW) is the one that seems to have brought it all together. While ASUS put it all together in a great package and form factor, the confluence of Intel’s 12th Generation Alder Lake, DDR5 memory and nVidia’s 30 Series Ti mobile GPU’s provide the underlying technology that make this kind of laptop possible. First, I should describe my use case because no laptop is best for everyone or everything. I am a professional who needs workstation class performance on the job. High performance AI/ML and advanced PowerPoint using 3D models are routine tasks. I’m also a husband and father with all of the normal photo and video editing and library management that goes along with having a large and busy family. Add some Netflix streaming while RV’ing and you have a pretty good idea of the non-work tasks I ask of this machine. Finally, if I do get a spare moment, I might dive into a little Red Dead Redemption 2 to enjoy a little alternate reality. First, to ASUS – great job! The M16 form factor and build quality are excellent! Subtle. Perfect for the professional workstation role. RGB is limited to a single zone on the keyboard. Practically every workstation class laptop has backlit keys so this machine fits right in (especially if you use white lighting). If you like, turn it off altogether. The lid has what I would call passive (reflective) RGB that is actually quite elegant, and a very subtle ROG badge but nothing on this machine screams out loud. I’ve seen professional workstation laptops from Dell, HP and Lenovo that are more obnoxious than the ASUS M16. The subtle rubberized texture on the keyboard deck is perfect and seems less fingerprint prone than previous versions of the same. As far as handling the workload, the 12th Gen Core i9-12900H is the most powerful laptop CPU I have experienced. I will admit I was a huge fan of the Ryzen family for desktop and laptop (both GPU & CPU). This ASUS M16 changed my mind. It blows past Deep Neural Nets and machine learning like no other (except perhaps a RTX 3080ti)! Yes – I get higher performance running big jobs at AWS on datacenter class GPUs, but to have this much power in a portable laptop is just amazing. As for CPU intensive tasks, you can look at the benchmarks posted by others but suffice it to say the Alder Lake delivers! You’ll need to be plugged in to get the full performance, but this machine can also go the distance in other applications when running on battery. More on that later… One more shout out to ASUS. While companies like ASUS must work with the processors that AMD, Intel and nVidia give them, they have total wide discretion on the display. I understand some gamers who want to hammer out as many frames as possible will opt for FHD resolutions. For me, while I’m at work I use this laptop as a secondary screen to a primary 2K 32” panel. Note: The DP output over the USB-C port works great! I really like having a 2K (16:10) screen as a supplemental display at work where I am keeping multiple screens open at a time. Then, when I am working in full laptop mode, the 2K (16:10) screen on the M16 is a real joy. The value of the screen goes way beyond just the resolution, though. ASUS calls this display Nebula, but I call it outstanding. Brightness is much better than most laptops I have used, and the colors are vibrant! I don’t have the gear to test the color accuracy, but ASUS has and this display nails it. This display is on par with a high-end HP OLED used in one of my previous laptops. It’s fast too at 165Hz refresh which helps with those occasional gaming sessions. Truthfully, I have yet to edit/encode photos or videos but looking at the various benchmarks for this Alder Lake CPU I have no doubt the M16 will sail through those tasks better than any previous laptop I have used. And, then, there is that beautiful screen with it’s high color accuracy helping every step of the way. One more miscellaneous item to note – the track pad. Large, smooth and accurate. Simply great! What about entertainment? After unboxing and some basic updates and setup, I started streaming Season 1 of ‘House of Cards’ on Netflix, left the M16 on battery power and went to bed. After waking 8hrs later episode 10 was just finishing and the laptop finally ran out of juice after 9hrs of 4K streaming over Wi-Fi! The machine was silent and not even warm to the touch. You would never know this machine had so much power under the hood. One more thing, after exhausting the battery just 1hr 15mins on the charger to get back to 100%. Perfect, perfect, perfect! For the gaming side of it I loaded up Red Dead Redemption 2 and set the quality level to medium high (a few clicks left of center on the GeForce Experience optimization tab). Running the pre-canned benchmark yielded 94.5 fps and the quality (DLSS on) was good. But wait! I forgot about the MUX switch that is accessible in Armoury Crate application. Flipping the MUX on and running the same benchmark took move the frame rate up to 107.2 fps! I really don’t feel a need to push the quality level higher (this game is beautiful on medium settings), but I could. Nice to have the option to do so on this and other titles. This machine can run AAA titles great! While on this subject, Armoury Crate (the ASUS app to configure many options from lighting to overclocking and everything in between) seems stable and did what it is supposed to do. Finally, a control app that seems to work but also stays out of the way when you are done using it. I have seen the early reviews on this machine and a lot of folks were disappointed that the 16GB of memory has 8GB soldered directly to the motherboard and the remaining in an SO-DIMM slot. I get it. Better to have 16 soldered down, but that forces the config to 32GB to get full dual channel. More money out of your pocket and unless you really need 32GB then it shouldn’t dissuade you from this machine. I also understand that there was some confusion in that ASUS responses to customer questions clearly implied 16GB was soldered down, although the specs in the BB listing show 8Gb soldered. This needs to be cleared up. All dual channels would have been preferrable, but don’t forget that on these 12th Gen Alder Lake CPU’s we have moved up to DDR5 4800 so that 16GB that runs in dual channel is giving us more bandwidth than we have ever had before on a laptop. By most measures and benchmarks, having memory over 16GB is of marginal value in most applications, but if you need to go there having the memory above 16GB run in single channel mode is not perfect, but will still provide performance improvements (for the few apps that need it) over the stock 16GB. As I said, the soldered down memory on this system is for most a non-issue, but those that need 32GB dual channel DDR5 should consider the next step up in the M16 model lineup. All in all, I suspect this 2022 ASUS M16 will turn out to be the best laptop I have ever purchased. Nice work ASUS, Intel and nVidia!

On paper this laptop has all the potential of being a killer gaming laptop after looking at CPU and gpu specs but this laptop can be great for other uses. Ownership experience is another story. To save you time I will say I ended up returning this and going with the scar 15. First reason for this is throttling / stuttering. As soon as I got it fully up to date I loaded up modern warfare 2 and good luck trying to play multiplayer. You will have constant freezes and just makes multiplayer gaming competitively unplayable on this machine. Second reason is the screen has amazing brightness but the backlight bleed is possibly the worst of any laptop ever built. If you look at all the reviews on Best buy's website and online you will see that's 100% the case with this laptop and the norm. 3rd major issue for me in this laptop was the fan noise and holy crap they give older razor laptops a run for their money at well over 65db. Good luck trying to play this on the couch with the Earth significant other while watching a show they will murder you. One other small minor annoyance is half the ram is soldered on board and there's only one available ram slot so forget having dual channel memory. Bottom line if you are looking for a great creator laptop to use during the daytime where you don't have to worry about backlight bleed, want a killer processor and GPU with 2k screen this is an amazing option especially with the sales you can get a for Best buy. If you're looking for something to play current AAA games I would definitely recommend looking to other options at Best buy.

The computer is amazing for the price that I got it. 1400 dollars before tax. It was certified refurbished. The screen quality is what is awesome about this system. It also runs modern games at or about 100 FPS at 1600p. The gripe that I have is with the whay the device was shipped. The Certified by Geek squad refurbished means it gets professionally cleaned. However this device had what appeared to be food or drink splatter on the keyboard and fingerprints all over the screen itself. This is not a touchscreen device. After I cleaned it was perfect.

Excellent laptop for gaming (even AAA games), 3D modelling, heavy programming and simulations. I recommend upgrading to 40gb of RAM when you can. The display is great, both responsive and sharp. The only complaint is that the skin starts peeling off the chasis if you are not careful. Of course, being a gaming laptop don't expect too much from the battery (maybe 4 hours at most of light browsing and modeling).

It runs extremely hot...Like most gaming laptops. I use an external key board, and controller to game anyways. Its loud...but you should be gaming with a headset anyways for best experience. Its an absolute beast for performance so no complaints there. The screen is amazing, sound is amazing and typing is amazing. An inexpensive lap top stand is perfect to help with ventilation. I also hook this up to my LG Oled C1 for solo player games. Its able to display 4k at 80-111 FPS ar 4k!!! Lower your resolution and this runs 1080p or 1444p with no issue at all. Turbo mode can only be run with included power source, however performance is more then enough to have an amazing experience. Handle with care, dont abuse your graphic card or CPU and this will last a life time. Its asteiclly pleasing...enjoy this beauty.

Pretty good laptop. It has played pretty much everything that I have wanted to play. The only thing that I don't really care for is how loud and hot it gets. I did some changing of the settings to get it to calm down a bit, which I suggest you do if you buy this. (Just search youtube) Otherwise though I've had this almost 2 years now and it's been solid. I'd recommend.
