If you plug off your laptop, next time you turn it on, the backlight won't turn on. It will for a second and then turn off automatically and there's no way of turning it on manually (No, Fn+F3 does not turn it on). Then if you turn if off and back on while plugged in, the backlight will stay on. This is clearly some power saving setting that makes absolutely no sense and is very badly coded. I've talked to Asus 3 times and the next time someone from their support tells me to press Fn+F3 again, I might become a murderer. Besides that, I enjoy this laptop. I'm deducting the stars from it because of the poorly coded backlight of the keyboard and because Asus support knows less about their own products than random Youtube tutorials.

The salesmen found this openbox Asus and led me to believe that it was $1199 marked down to $891 for the open box. Great deal right? I get back home and find it was $949 new. Disappointing that he wasn't honest with me as I would have bought the new machine. We got it home and my son took it to class the next morning after charging all night. The battery is holding 0% charge and only works on AC power. Clearly the people who inspected this returned unit did not check for proper charging. So one star on service + one star on poorly inspected unit = 2 stars. And I'm being generous.

As well as use it for work. I knew cooling would be a problem because the size but this is ridiculous i cant even play league or tft even with the turbo fan on itll get hot enough to be painful. Of course i still do but with these temps i dont think it will last long. Enough about the temps the only other problems i had were random i guess lag issues like everytime i tab out of a game my screen freezes on black and for a few mins after the freeze everything runs like im playing something with 1k ping.

We do understand your disappointment if you are experiencing issues with gaming and your concern about thermal issues.
Definitely, the laptop will handle most games without compromising system speed or performance, just ensure the OS is running with the most current updates and internet service is stable while running online games and accessing web applications. Poor internet connection will certainly affect system stabilty an performance.
It is normal for the fan to spin at full-throttle while the laptop is under heavy load espiecially during gaming, WINDOWS Update and antivirus scan. When system resource utilization is high, this will generate more heat than normal and tends to trigger the fan to spin at full-throttle. It does decreases or normalizes once utilization goes down.

Be wary Geeks Squad certified laptops

I purchase two certified laptops with same savings, but both have a video/gaming issues. When you using the laptop for productivity and do not put any load on the GPU they worked fine, but any GPU load tasks with stated cause issues with the first one artefact will appear after probably hour or so of gaming. The second laptop screen started flashings anytime when load was introduced to the Nvidia GPU. I believe if extensive testing was done this issue would be discovered. Looks like they just reload operating system and see if system boots up.
