Customers are saying

Customers regard the TUF DASH 15.6" Gaming Laptop favorably for its performance, SSD speed, and battery life, frequently praising its build quality and value for the price. However, some users noted that the fan can be loud and the device may overheat during intensive use, while the lack of a webcam was also a common complaint. The relatively small storage capacity was another point of concern for some customers.

I have quite a few gaming laptops. I use them for almost everything I need to do. Like gaming, video editing, music recording and production. The allure of the gaming laptops are they can crush anything a normal person can throw at it. So here is my take on this wonderous piece of gaming laptop. What I like: Portable (15.6 inch screen and easy to pack form factor). Light (4.4 pounds). Great battery life (got 6 hours of WoW on med settings). Light up keyboard (nice and bright without blinding you at night). WASD keys are different color. (making it easy to just start in the correct gaming position). Nice sharp screen (even for its small size) Touch pad is responsive and easy to use (not glass, but slick enough). Boots up in record time (so fast my wifi could not keep up and connect as fast). 512 SSD is nice to have and is very fast (others think we only play games, therefore we get tiny sizes). 16gb DRAM (8 on board 8 in slot) that is so fast you can get rid of your page file and run with no lag) RTX3060 video card with beyond super colors, response time (144mhz) and epic configurability with Crate program. Runs quiet most of the time (when idle and not playing games or such) and is almost silence compared to other systems What I am neutral about: Not many ports on the laptop.(power, type c, hdmi, 3 usb ports, combo headphone) it seems like they assume we don't need to use this as a everyday laptop. When gaming, it will rev up the fans and be very noticeable if you are not wearing headphones. but it does not last long, but it happens often. Weird power supply voltage. it comes with a 200w and you can not find a extra one to purchase (even on their site) and anything that has that much power has the wrong adaptor plug tip. Things I do not like: Location of all important ports are all on the same side. So I have power, type 3, hdmi and my headphones all on the left side (ports are really close together as well). would have been nice to have video ports in the back to make it less cluttered on the left side of laptop. When connecting to external monitor (type c or hdmi) the only way to get a decent display is to turn off the laptop screen so the native resolution if the monitor can be used, Also, no matter what configuration I did, the FPS on the external screen never passed 35. So it would seem that this is not meant for gaming on anything other than onboard screen to get usable FPS. Although when you do use the laptop screen, the visuals are superb. Crate software for tweaking your settings for gaming and such kind of conflict with Windows 10 settings, So it was a chore to get them to work together. So the questions remains. Would I buy this again. Yes and no Yes = As a stand alone system for mobile use or home use, It is the best I have ever used. No= Since I need it for other things other than gaming, the video card is underpowered to handle my external monitor with simple refresh rates and sharpness. I can not find a spare adaptor to use as "at work or at home" connection to avoid the dreaded "packing everything" each time I need to move. I am glad I got it, but will have to keep looking for a laptop with more powerful graphics card to handle my gaming/working needs at home.

Gaming laptops are all about compromise. Power, size, and price are the three corners constantly tugging away at each other until ultimately you have to give up one of these things. At least, that's how things used to be. The ASUS TUF 15 shows that the new compromise is on feature sets instead of what I expect out of a gaming laptop, and that's something that I can live with. I received the Intel i7 variant of this laptop, sporting the brand new Nvidia RTX 3060 graphics card, the lowest spec'd of the newer 30 series cards aimed at the mid-range market. Compared to the fully loaded version, this model doesn't have fancy RGB lighting effects or a 4k display. Instead, it has a basic cyan toned backlit keyboard and a smooth as butter 144 Hz display. To be honest, I prefer not having the RGB, as I usually either turn it off or set it to one color. And I'm perfectly content gaming in 1920 x 1080. In fact, I prefer it, as most games in 4k tend to sacrifice frames per second for a prettier picture. If I were in the market for a different sort of laptop, one more focused on business, school, the creative arts, or even just for media consumption, there is no way that I would give this laptop a second look considering the missing features that are pretty much standard on most laptops on the market today. No touch screen or pen input, no webcam, sub-TB storage capacity, tinny speakers, and a chunky chiclet style keyboard. As a gaming laptop, however, I'm more than impressed. The entire package is mind-bogglingly slim and reasonably light. The ability to adjust CPU/GPU output to preserve battery life while not plugged in is a very smart idea, and ASUS's software makes it easy to change profiles. The keys are comfortable to keep position on while gaming, and the differently textured and colored WASD keys make it easy to reorient them if you have to take your hand away momentarily to grab a drink. I did all of my gaming tests using the "Turbo" profile, the higheest setting after "Performance" (balanced towards higher power while not going all out), "Silent" (lower power, but lower fan speeds), and "Windows 10" (minimal power, since 3d animated spreadsheets with 4k textures aren't a thing yet in the business world). Even on "Performance" mode, the fans get loud enough to drown out the puny speakers on this, but I do all my gaming while wearing a headset, so the volume of the fans does not bother me at all. So, as long as I was going to not let fan noise bother me, I was going to do all of my gaming at max power. The 3DMark score that I got on the Timespy benchmark was in the mid 6000s, which put well above what a typical gaming laptop scored (somewhere in the 5000s) and just under what a full-fledged gaming PC would score. Very impressive especially for a "mid-range" tier GPU. Jumping into Overwatch, not only was I rocking 60+ frames per second, but the 144 Hz screen looked amazing. World of Warcraft, which I got dragged into playing again over the winter, was also terrific to look at, especially with all the sparkly particle effects on the gear that I've painstakingly acquired. While playing, I did notice that my fingers were getting hot. Not just the ones mashing the WASD keys, but the ones holding my mouse as well. This is because there is a heat exhaust port on the right side of the laptop, and when the GPU is working, the fans push all that heat out. It's nice in the winter, but come summer I'm worried about how much finger sweat is going to be dripping into my mouse. I get it, GPUs get hot, and there's air blowing every which way out of this machine, but maybe angling the exhaust so it's not blowing directly on my mouse hand would have been better. As a gaming laptop, the only fault I could find is with the storage capacity. 500 GB is not enough after the OS install for holding modern AAA games. World of Warcraft's install is just under 80 GBs, MS Flight Simulator is around 120 GBs, and the latest shooters like Gears of War 5 and CoD Black Ops 4 are weighing in at 150 GBs. As more games add 4k textures and HD audio, install sizes are ridiculous, and while that's more something that game studios need to address, the fact remains that while this laptop can most definitely handle the rigors associated with playing such games, maybe you're only having 2 or 3 installed at any given time. If you're looking for a capable gaming machine that can handle whatever game you throw at it with buttery smooth frame rates, then this is the one. It's not something that's great to watch movies on, you can't really skype anybody without a separate webcam, and the keyboard feels like I have to stretch all of my fingers to type properly, but gaming on it feels so good. Compromising on unrelated features is worth an uncompromised gaming experience.
