Another Solid Gaming Monitor from ASUS

ASUS has as a leader in the home gaming market. With the ASA TUF 23.8 inch IPS FHD 1080P 180Hz 1ms FreeSync Premium Gaming Monitor, they again have delivered a solid addition to their catalogue of hardware. After removing from the box, you have everything you need to get going. It comes with an adjustable stand that allows you to raise or lower the monitor as well as has a tilt feature. I preferred to make mine rack mounted which is also easy. The monitor has VESA standard 100 mm x 100 mm drilled holes which allow you to easily do this. From there you have several connection options including 2 HDMI ports and 1 DisplayPort. I use mine to connect to a PC as well as a PlayStation via HDMI. Switching between these is intuitive and easy to do. When it comes to monitors though, I think the performance is what everyone is really concerned with. With this monitor, it is a solid performer. The monitor is a 23.8” LED screen and is full 1080P HD. The refresh rate of 180Hz is also solid. The one thing in the description of these that always bothers me though is when that say 1ms response time. The refresh rate alone cannot match 1 millisecond response time, and it doesn’t quite match up. So, I feel that is a bit misleading. Don’t get me wrong. The refresh rate is good and will satisfy most gamers. But it is not on the level of hardcore gamers or pros. Even with all of that said, playing on the PlayStation or PC, the image was smooth and without jitter. I enjoyed the gameplay experience. The picture quality was good for this monitor. It is limited by not being able to handle 4K, but the picture was bright and had good contrast. You can easily play in a lit room or with the lights off. The screen is antiglare and can be viewed from off angles. Another nice feature that I found with this monitor is that it has built in speakers. These speakers are 2-watt stereo speakers. They do face the rear though. Also being 2-watt speakers, they are not going to fill up the room. If there is much background noise, the sound will be hard to hear. However, in most situations, they are good enough to hear what is going on. In the end, I really enjoy the ASUS TUF 23.8” IPS FHD 1080P 180Hz 1ms FreeSync Premium Gaming Monitor. It is a solid performer that will satisfy most gamers. It can handle only gaming without substantial lag. I think hardcore gamers will be underwhelmed by this monitor. Being 1080P and having 180 Hz refresh might put some off. But for 99% of gamers, this monitor will work fine, especially if you are trying to game within a budget. I highly recommend the ASUS TUF Gaming monitor for those looking for a solid performing monitor.

The ASUS TUF Gaming 23.8" IPS FHD 1080P Monitor with 180Hz 1ms response time and AMD FreeSync is a budget high refresh rate monitor. This premium gaming monitor is one of the best bang for the buck 1080P monitor I have ever used period. The smoothness of this monitor when tested on my pc with a 3060ti still was able to put down very impressive FPS but when hooked up to my 7900XTX pc, I was simply mindblown of how well this monitor works on racing and FPS games as well as RPG games. I can also say using for graphic design is also improved when you are trying to get the most crisp and clean lines possible when drawing on the PC. The monitor can be hooked up via HDMI or Display Port from your PC. I used the Display Port when testing as a whole but I did use the HDMI out of the 3060ti for a bit and noticed zero cons when doing so. The screen had zero ghosting effects nor did it ever look blurry even in the fastest scenes. Racing games like Forza 7 looks absolutely stunning in 1080P on this monitor, to the point of I like is better over my S brand Ultra Wide, yes, I said it, the visuals are better and at 1/10 of the price. Colors look great on this monitor, very true to color when compared taking photos live then going to the computer and comparing the look between real and screen, incredibly the screen with zero adjustments and default settings on the 3060ti for testing, the colors looks amazing. The fast refresh makes movement of any sort look buttery smooth, I do not think it ever misses a pixel change, it is insanely fast for the price. The monitor also included a high quality HDMI cable and power cable, so you are ready to use right out of the box, no running back to the store. The only con to this monitor is it is NOT height adjustable, I do hate this as I needed to buy a screen riser to even it with the monitor next to it. I highly recommend this monitor for any budget or even not budget gamer.

Monitors are a dime a dozen. At every turn there's another new monitor with higher refresh, different curvature, support for variable refresh technologies, different sizes, you name it. It's become less common to have a great monitor that really does everything you need without the buzz and cost of the higher end models that many people really won't use the features of. This Asus TUF monitor is just that. For those of us with limited desk space, the 23.8 inch monitor doesn't consume vast amounts of it while still having the beauty of a 180hz gaming refresh rate and support for freesync. Setup was simple as expected out of the box and i appreciate the joystick toggle on the back for adjusting settings. It really has everything you need and nothing you don't. My recent playtime obsession has been palworld, but whether playing something simple like that or something more inherently demanding like COD, this monitor delivers. I have mounted it on an arm on the desk to utilize my space as best as can be and even that was easy. The monitor and it's freesync capabilities were immediately recognized and the image quality is outstanding. I greatly recommend this to anyone in the market for a great performing gaming monitor with limited desk space looking for a solid brand.

    Sleek with Fast Refresh Rate

Nowadays as PC gaming continues to grow, the number of peripherals only continues to grow as well. After testing numerous brands, ASUS continues to come out on top as they have only continued to do so here with this monitor. First, right of the box, it is evident that corners were not cut when it comes to build quality. Upon attaching the stand (hardware / tools included) I did not have any hesitancies with how sturdy it was. The minimal bezels and sleek design on the back definitely show the thoughtfulness put into the aesthetics of the monitor. Where this monitor really shines though is upon powering it up with the vast features that are included. First, with the LED IPS display, colors are extremely bright and vivid. To go along with the visuals are the 180hz refresh rate and 1ms response time resulting in minimum lag and blur. The added FreeSync capability only expands on this to help eliminate stuttering. Obviously with all these features it’s tough to stop at times and thus the anti-glare and flicker-free technology allow for longer gaming sessions as they reduce glare and reduce eye strain. Also to assist in longer gameplay sessions are the built in speakers because when my headset died the speakers came in handy as speakers in monitors seem to be few and far between anymore. Two more features I do have to mention are the Shadow Boost and GamePlus features. First with the Shadow Boost it is exactly as it sounds where during gameplay sessions when you encounter dark areas the image is enhanced while at the same time not over exposing the bright areas. Then the two GamePlus features that are unique to ASUS that I have to mention are the ability to see real time the frames per second and refresh rate because this is reassuring to make sure my PC and monitor are running as they should for maximum use. Overall, this monitor not only stands out in appearance, but also does so when it comes to performance. Some may complain that it is not 4K to which if you expect all of these features on a 4K monitor then the price would be five times as much as this monitor. Thus, with the vast variety of features on this monitor it sets itself apart in the budget monitor category and therefore I would definitely recommend this monitor for any PC gamer.

    Great little monitor for gaming

The main draw here is the 180hz refresh rate; and even though I can’t personally see the difference from 90hz-120hz, I can clearly see the jump above 60hz. So right off the bat, this should be considered a gaming monitor, especially with the 1ms response time. So who is it for? I use it to accompany my 32” curved monitor that I use for browsing and work. There are two HDMI ports and one DisplayPort, so it’ll be right at home on your desk. The best part for me? There are integrated speakers. Nothing to write home about, but they output audio from my Xbox that I have hooked up to the 2nd HDMI port just fine. The brightness isn’t the greatest, it’s not OLED, and there’a no G-sync, but there isn’t anything in this price range that offers all of that. There also isn’t much in the way of 4K 120+hz gaming for the most current AAA titles unless you have the craziest graphics cards out. So who is this for? Most gamers who sit close to their monitor of choice. The speakers make it perfect for consoles, it isn’t as bulky as some other gaming monitors (although it isn’t exactly “slim”), and it provides excellent value in the gaming space.

This monitor is an incredible value for the performance that you get. Super-smooth, fast performance with a high refresh rate and with virtually no lag. Smooth rendering makes playing games an absolute pleasure. After using this for several hours of gaming, I haven't noticed any issues- no ghosting, dead pixels, or odd artifacts. The color rendering is accurate with bright highlights and detailed shadows- no muddy black screen blobs here. I did notice a small amount of light leak at the edge of the screen, but nothing awful. There are a variety of gaming pre-sets to help customize the display depending on your gaming preferences and style. Despite the budget price, the monitor feels sturdy and well-made. It's weighty enough to be secure on your desk, but not so heavy that it's a chore to move around. There's not a lot in the way of extra features, and as you might expect from a budget monitor, you will want to connect your own speakers or a headset if you're playing seriously immersive games.

Great Fast LED Gaming Model - 1ms and 180Mhz

The ASUS TUF 23.8" is a great gaming monitor and perfect if you have limited desk space and want a gaming model that has plenty of extras. Out of the box, ASUS includes a HDMI cable and a standard power cable (no brick power required) which I like. Bezels are very slim. The stand requires it to be screwed on, but ASUS includes a screwdriver tool and all of the screws. This was all easy. I will say that the stand isn't height adjustable, you can adjust the tilt a few degrees (there's no rotation). It's high speed with 180Mhz Refresh and 1ms Response - so great for gaming, I didn't notice any tearing playing any FPS games in game mode when using Freesync. It has Freesync premium, which I wasn't even aware was a thing - but this gives you variable refresh rates. The big thing on monitors is always how good are the blacks, I found them deep, dark, and there was obvious light bleed around the edge of the screen. The On Screen Display (OSD) and Controls are easy and intuitive, little joystick like control for navigating menus, but of note, ASUS offers free DisplayWidget software on ASUS.com if you want to control via your PC - I didn't do this, as I don't like using 3rd party apps, but it's good to know it's an option if you want it. Worth noting it has 2x HDMI and 1x Display Port. This would make it a great dorm room monitor. What would make it perfect, if the standard offered height adjusts as well as tilt, it would be a 5 star 23.8" let's round it up, 24" monitor.

    False Claim: Adjustable-height stand

Great screen, refresh rate is as see on the listing, feels like it's built very well. However, the current Best Buy listing is misleading as it states that this has an "adjustable-height stand", however that is false. Best Buy needs to fix this as that was a big reason I decided to purchase this monitor. I should've looked into it earlier as ASUS correctly lists that this monitor has a fixed-height stand, however Best Buy says otherwise. Other than that, the monitor is a great and affordable option!

As the title says, the TUF Gaming 24"-class (23.8" viewable) IPS Full HD 1080P gaming monitor with 180Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, and FreeSync Premium is a solid option for gamers who prefer a budget-conscious setup. There's a lot to like about this monitor. I personally find 24" to be the sweet spot for a gaming monitor selection that's not too costly and still gives you a great experience. At that size you're not really going to care about the max 1080P resolution like you would with a 27" or larger option. And here's the thing. 1080P is absolutely enough for a great gaming experience. Yes, a 42" OLED 4K HDR behemoth will be breathtaking and definitely make you (momentarily) wish you had one. But really, is that experience really worth 7+ times the cost of this monitor? Not in my book. I'd rather get better performance from my budget-friendly pc build running games at 1080P than have extra stress and strain on it. The build quality is what you would expect from ASUS, which is to say, very nice. Being IPS, the viewing angle is excellent. The 180Hz is smooth as silk. I am also a fan of the controls being on the side of the monitor rather than having a "wiggle and press" all-in-one stick on the underside. I can never figure those out completely and they get frustrating. Also, for anyone wondering, this monitor is an excellent option for use with a docked SteamDeck. The only thing I'm a little disappointed in is the inclusion of an HDMI cable over DisplayPort. Other gaming monitors (and even cheaper ones at that) I've gotten in the past actually included one. All in all, I can easily recommend this monitor for just about any gamer. From entry-level to more serious players that are like me and think that 1080P is definitely enough.

This TUF monitor surprised me at its price point. Not only was it a sturdy, well constructed unit, but its compact design worked great on the small desk where I installed it, and its included HDMI cable worked for up to 165Hz refresh rate right out of the box! The monitor was packed well in its small package - The stand was simple to set up and the whole process took about 10 minutes and we were off to visual bliss. I installed this monitor with an HP Victus Ryzen 5 gaming desktop with a GeForce 1660 Super graphics card and I wasn't sure about the advertised 180Hz capabilities being available on such a lower-end card, but I was delighted to see Windows 11 offer me 165Hz refresh with no special software or configuration required. It just worked! I assume a higher end GPU and maybe a DisplayPort connection (DisplayPort is supported, but the cable is sold separately.) would yield closer to the 180Hz max supported refresh, but the 165 was gorgeous, even in streaming games. On top of that, the 1080p display worked great and had vivid and bright color/brightness. I would reccomend this to ANY casual gamers or people looking for a GREAT display in the value segment.

***Intro:*** What type of gaming system do you have? Is it a laptop? A console? An older or more mid-range PC? 1080p could very well be for you. And ASUS actually has a bargain contender. ***Packaging:*** The monitor arrives well-packaged - honestly beating out much more expensive screens from other brands. It is encased in molded styrofoam, with stand pieces, screws and a screwdriver included in bags which fit in foam slots on the back side of the molding, next to documentation. The screen itself is wrapped in a padded bag, as you would expect. ***Build Quality:*** The plastic is basic, somewhat patterned in places, and mostly textured black. It appears thick enough for such a light monitor, but it isn’t anything to write home about. It will likely do it’s job, but you didn’t get this monitor for the looks. ***Physical Functionality:*** The included stand, which requires 4 screws and one tool-less V-shaped foot (hand screw style), offers some upward and downward angle adjustment, but no tilting, twisting, nor height adjustment. This may be for the better, as the monitor will likely stay more still than monitors which move about all 3 axes plus height. 4 buttons are on the back of the monitor, and while one use the manual to figure them out, they are strangely shaped and placed; clearly a more aesthetic choice than one of simple functionality. The joystick seemed to get one through the menus well enough, and worked as one could assume. ***Viewing Angles:*** While touting an IPS display, the screen’s viewing angles seemed to be kind of limited - at least when comparing the excellent clarity of the center with the edges. My guess is that this issue comes down to either the backlight and/or the anti-glare coating. My daily driver is an OLED without anti-glare coating, so obviously I am particularly sensitive to such things, but it may not be an issue for you if your focus while gaming is primarily centered. ***Refresh Rate:*** Refresh rate is excellent, hitting 165 Hz with the included HDMI cable. Using a Display Port cord would bump that up to the 180 Hz advertised. Such a high refresh rate is excellent. My previously mentioned OLED panel is only 120 Hz, and going up to 165 is noticeable. ***Color:*** Color is good for the price. Anti-glare always makes things a slight bit more gray than they otherwise would be, but it could be that the spacing between pixels is also producing a bit of a screen-door effect. Black levels are acceptable. Check out my photos. ***Text Clarity:*** Text Clarity would be better if the pixels were closer together. The above-mentioned screen-door effect reduces text clarity - though that isn’t why you buy this monitor, and it is good for the segment. ***Backlight:*** The backlight is fairly uniform. For a more budget monitor, it’s actually really good. ***Connectivity:*** ASUS designed this monitor with both HDMI and Display Port connectivity, with 3 possible input sources selectable. This makes it easy to switch from say, a school or gaming desktop, a laptop, and a game console. ***Bonus feature:*** I was surprised to be greeted with SOUND from the ASUS when I kicked on my PC! While it clearly comes from the rear of the monitor and could be beaten by my work laptop when it comes to quality, it is still a welcome find if you’re just getting started with your gaming setup. ***Conclusion Overall, this is a good product, IF you fit its niche. The refresh rate is good, the colors are good, the clarity is good. The build quality is adequate. The button layout is strange. The sound is mediocre. But if you want a good starter screen or to do 2 or 3 screen gaming on the cheap, it would likely satisfy, as VESA mounting is an option.

I was looking for a good quality monitor to mirror my laptop screen for a bigger viewing area, and this looked like it would fit my needs perfectly! I don't use my laptop for gaming as much, but I do use it for photo and video editing pertaining to my photography and videography. I have to say the colors with this monitor are vibrant and rich. There's no drag or delay between the two screens. The clarity is amazing and crucial with how I'm using the monitor. Contrast (It has a 1,000:1 contrast ratio ), deep black tones (which I’m guessing The Shadow Boost plays a big role in contributing to that), and perfect color are some of the high points in my opinion. It's an antiglare LED monitor. It comes with 2 HDMI 2.0 inputs, and 1 Display port. From what I can tell you can only get the highest refresh rate by using the display port, and not the HDMI limiting you to a 144 Hz refresh rate. It has a maximum and native resolution of 1920x1080.. It does have a headphone jack as well. It also has backward firing integrated speakers but you’re not goi ng to be shaking any windows or walls with them because they’re only 2 watts haha. And if you don’t want to use it as a desktop monitor it is wall mountable as well. For those who are looking for Energy Star certified equipment this one is not. One thing I really liked is that it has a 3-year warranty on parts and labor. This is a great monitor for home, school work, dorms, gaming, etc. I'd definitely recommend it for others especially at the price point

Very good gaming monitor! My son is as United States Navy Nuclear Engineer and an AVID gamer. Well, while on-board the submarine his options are limited. So to make up for that, we have a "gamng den" in the basement where he has several platforms set up for various games. When I got the opportunity to get this monitor, I was looking forward to getting a little larger monitor back from him for my office. He, in turn was looking forward to getting a true gaming monitor. Win, win. He chose to set this up on his gaming PC. He often plays MS Flight Simulator on this PC. The graphics were very good with a 180 hz refresh rate. That said, the resolution is not 4k and only displays at 1080p. No biggie, but for some folks, that may be a deal breaker. End of the day, he really enjoys using this on for the fligt sim. The graphics are smooth, the colors are clean and the disply is even. If you are looking for a good value gaming monitor for every day use, this is an excellent choice. I have and would reccomend to a friend.

I have two ASUS ROG 1080p 180hz 1ms G-Sync gaming monitors that I purchased from Best Buy over 5 years ago now; and while I recently replaced them with two 4K gaming monitors for my main gaming computer, I do have 2 other computers that I run with one of them getting the two ROG monitors. When I got the opportunity to get an updated version of those monitors I thought “sure, why not?!?”. Those two ROG monitors were over $600 each back originally and I’m happy to see that the pricing of the tech has gone down but this monitor is just more of the same. What do I mean? Well, the options, except the built in speakers, seem to be exactly the same. I appreciate the built in speakers because I don’t have speakers for anything but my gaming PC (which has a gaming soundbar with subwoofer) but this is just not enough to warrant upgrading if you are like me and have some monitors which have similar specs. Now, all this said, I am in the process of moving and when moving the gaming monitors from their wall mounted dual monitor mounts to their OEM mounts I accidentally let 1 of them fall forward and into a box which put a small scratch on the monitor and took out some of the glass by way of a puncture. So, it looks like this monitor for my 3rd system is going to get repurposed already for my second system. So, I guess it is good that it is so close in spec to my prior ASUS ROG monitors because it is going to be replacing one of them. So, should you buy one? Well, it depends. Do you game? Do you want no ghosting? Do you want 1080p? Or do you already have a monitor which checks all these boxes? If you already have one with similar specs then I would skip this monitor. However, if you are upgrading from a 720p monitor, or if you have a 1080p monitor and want another sub-$200 monitor then I’d say go for it.

Really nice picture without being “painted” by fancy image processing. Play destiny with it and color detail and responsiveness is excellent. Couldn’t be happier with how well this works for the price.
