Great Machine for what I was looking for

I am very pleased with my purchase. I was looking for a Gaming Laptop that had the specs for both hi-res games and the occasional graphic design/photoshop project. I still have a working desktop, but this machine allowed me the ability to take it on the road (or at least the couch) so I can game or work where I'm comfortable.

    Good gaming/editing laptop, weak hinges

Bought this as a gift for my boyfriend initially for editing videos which it worked well for, but since he has gotten back into gaming as well and it has run most games at high quality. The only downside I've noticed is that no matter how careful you are with the screen and opening the laptop, the hinges get damaged fairly easily, eventually leading to screen damage and costly repairs. Otherwise overall a pretty good buy, especially at the sale price.

Fantastic little gaming laptop. Gets a little bogged down with background processes sometimes and needs a restart every 12 hours of runtime or so. If you aren't comfortable digging through settings to change processes, I wouldn't recommend though because it defaults with a lot of programs running a lot of different settings configurations.

This is an insanely fast laptop that runs anything I've tried flawlessly. I haven't used AMD products before, and am thoroughly impressed. It boots up almost instantaneously, the build quality is solid, and it's a sleek design. I only have one "complaint", which is really a non issue, the onboard speakers didn't produce very good quality sound. Overall, I'm super happy with my purchase.

This laptop has exceed my expectations. I got a great deal from Best Buy and picked it up from the store a few hours after I purchased it online. I like the performance of the laptop when playing various games as well as when cloud gaming. While I prefer a green backlit keyboard, the white light works just fine. The laptop also has continuous white lights flashing when shut.

The ASUS-TUF is a great laptop. I bought it to work with Photoshop and Lightroom cc and it works great for that. My only concern about this unit is every so often the laptop will go into screen and battery saver mode after 5 minutes and won't bring the screen up after hitting the enter key. I have to reboot the unit to get it to come up again. Fast and pretty nice laptop other than that.

I want to rate this 5 stars, but will be giving it only 3 because I imagine not everyone here will be as tech savvy and will want a ready-to-go laptop for this price. Long story short- Buy this for the hardware and do a 100% CLEAN windows install! Get rid of all ASUS programs! This laptop will run 100% better without them! Also, wait to get this on sale for 750. Don't buy it for more! The GOOD: 1: The 165hz IPS screen looks fantastic and feels amazing- it's super smooth and does not glitch(I've had glitching issues with Dell and HP high hz screens). I have not needed to perform any color syncing. The matte finish on the screen is just right- not too much to dull out pixels, but just enough to remove glare. It's spot on! 2: AMD Ryzen 7000 Series CPU & GPU are hard to beat at this price. 3: Storage/Memory: I've heard that certain models come set up differently, but mine has two slots for 2280 M.2 SSDs(one used and one empty slot), and has two slots for DDR5 4800 ram(dual 8gb sticks). 4: Keyboard: feels okay. I love trackpads that are placed central to the palm rest areas, but I wish the keyboard was also central to the trackpad location. They made the trackpad nice and large, but the space bar is too far to the left and you always accidentally touch the trackpad when typing. I would rather lose the keypad and place everything central design-wise than have this issue. The keyboard lighting isn't the best, and the excess light bleed around the bottom of the keys makes it distracting to use. 5: Trackpad. The trackpad is nice and large, and feels super smooth when moving the mouse cursor. Having owned a few Macbook Pros, I can definitively say that this trackpad is absolutely fine. The BAD: In order for worst to not so bad. 1: I have owned countless computers, and currently own 7 laptops. This is the worst computer I've ever owned when it comes to being a fingerprint magnet. The black topcase finish is like glue to fingerprints- no matter how OCD you are about preventing them! 2: The ASUS TUF series comes preloaded and set up with a bunch of ASUS programs that are known to cause problems with freezing. Seems to be luck of the draw. For whatever the reason, there are drivers that don't cooperate well with each other and cause hardware issues. The biggest issue is that the computer will COMPLETEY freeze while it goes into sleep or hibernate mode. When this happens, the CPU remains on at a constant load. The computer heats up, and will keep going until it either dies, or you try to wake it up. The only way to wake it up is to hold down the power button and cycle it off/on. There's no other way. If this issue were only seen on ASUS, I would say to avoid this laptop, but it is seen with all manufacturers and from experience, a clean install of windows is usually the way to go. The best way to fix this issue is to perform a true clean install of windows. This means install windows with ZERO other programs! Then you add individual drivers for hardware you need. Windows does a fine job of automatically finding compatible drivers for the hardware components, so AMD is really the only driver you really need to manually install for peak performance and to output video through the USB C port. 3. ASUS bloatware. The stupid ASUS programs really do nothing good except take up resources and cause crashes. There is ZERO need to have them installed except to make you feel special about having controls over everything. Just let the computer manage itself. They are not needed. It's best to perform a clean install of windows and let the drivers run the hardware as intended. Once you do this, it's crazy how smooth the whole system runs! Zero glitches! 4. The bottom case: The bottom case is made out of cheap and hard plastic to resemble "TUF". Personally, I normally wouldn't mind this, but it bothers me when someone else feels the bottom of this laptop and mentions how cheap it feels. Having taken this laptop apart, I can say the plastic at least feels tougher than most other plastics used in other laptops, but it just gives off this cheap feeling when touching or looking at it. I wish it would have been designed a little better. Overall Opinion: Buy this laptop when it's on sale. The hardware you get for the price is hard to beat! Perform a true clean install of Windows and enjoy a really good laptop that should last a while.
