The ASUS FA617NS-A16.R77600 Laptop is a decent gaming laptop. I originally had problems with my unit. The laptop was extremely slow and laggy, and I kept getting error messages from drivers and Asus background applications. Some of the error messages were ASUSSmartDisplayControl.exe - Application Error and AsusKeyboardHost.exe - Application Error. I decided to do wipe the laptop and do a full factory reset. So far everything has been working OK after the factory reset. The laptop has a large screen that gets fairly bright. It also has a matte finish that helps to cut down on light glare. The trackpad is responsive and works well with no issues. The keys on the keyboard all have good key travel and respond well while typing. The only issue I have is the backlighting. The letter on the keys all have a fuzzy look to them with the backlighting and makes me a little dizzy when looking at the keys for too long. The laptop has plenty of ports such as 2 USB-A, 2 USB-C, 1 Ethernet, and 1 HDMI port. The HDMI port comes in handy when I want to connect my external monitor for extra screen real-estate. The unit gets warm at times, but not too warm as other gaming laptops I’ve owned. The fans also don’t come on as much as my previous gaming laptops, and battery life is really good when doing average day to day tasks. It does a good job keeping up with the games I use, but it does get warm if you try to use it in your lap. Overall, it’s a good laptop that gets the job done.

I have never owned a laptop computer made by ASUS until now. What a wonderful surprise ASUS's model A-16 Advantage TUF Gaming laptop PC is! The unit I got is in matte off-black, has an easy opening clamshell design, Runs Windows 11 and is truly built for gaming. The ASUS TUF Gamin Laptop comes with a custom anodized aluminum finish in Sandstorm or Off-black colors certified to meet MIL-STD-810H specifications. It boasts Wi-Fi 6, Dolby Atmos Hi-Res Sound, AMD Radeon and AMD Ryzen Series 7000 componenets, a 165 hz refresh rate, 90% screen to body ratio, a MUX switch, High performance DDR5 RAM, Type C charging, 4 heat exhaust vents and 84 blade arc flow fans. This ASUS laptop includes SmartShift and Smart Access memory that help boost overall graphics performance, a 512 GB SSD, Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity, HDMI 2.1 slot, a gigabit ethernet slot, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The unit is powered by a 90 WH battery. For the money, this might be one of the best gaming laptops in its class. This unit is a keeper!

What can I say about this gaming computer, this computer is fantastic. It has so many great features where do I begin. First off I have to say that I love the black Matte finish on this computer. As much as I handle this computer I see minimal fingerprints and if you do get finger prints on it, just take a dry cloth and wipe it off then they disappear. Another great point feature is the combo jack and the 4 vents on it which helps keep it cool. The battery life is amazing in here, I can get quite a bit of time gaming before it needs to be recharged,. The touch pad is large and very responsive which makes gaming on here effortless. I love the fact that this computer has 3 levels of brightness so if you’re playing in a low lit area, you can adjust the lighting. The keyboard is so smooth to type on, it’s quiet and the strokes are smooth. Last but not least, this computer is well built, heavy and sturdy. So if you are going to transport this computer, have a nice carrying case to protect it.

Powerful yet affordable laptop from ASUS

The ASUS Model A16 is a budget-friendly laptop that should meet most of your gaming needs as well as double as a very capable productivity laptop. It has a attractive clean exterior design with a vision-friendly 16-inch diagonal bright and contrasty screen display with a non-glare finish. Mine came with 16GB of fast DDR5-4800 RAM with a slot capacity to hold up to 32GB, more than adequate for most gaming and memory-hungry productivity applications. The 512GB SSD makes for a fast-loading Windows 11 machine and applications load quickly and are responsive as well. Windows 11 loads in under 10 seconds and loading Adobe Photoshop 2023 takes only about 15 seconds to reach the opening screen. I have found from using gaming desktops that gaming laptops excel just as well in productivity situations such as photo and video processing. For those wanting top performance in both gaming and productivity, the RAM and SSD in this laptop are user-accessible by removing the bottom cover, so adding memory and storage upgrades should be relatively simple, especially if you are a do-it-yourselfer. One of the more pleasant surprises to me personally about this laptop is the comfort and design of the back-lit keyboard. I have large hands and typically hate typing on most laptops. I have found the ASUS laptop a perfect fit and feel, essential for typing documents and emails. I/O ports are easily accessible and fast with two Type-A USB 3.2 ports and two USB-C ports, one using the latest USB4.0 technology, perfect for linking the laptop via a cable to Virtual Reality googles to add 3-D to your gaming experience. Lastly, AMD Radeon Video has 8GB of lightning fast video GDDR6 RAM for fast-action gaming. There's a lot to like about the ASUS TUF GAMING A16 Advantage Edition laptop, especially for the very affordable price.

    A great multi-purpose gaming laptop

The ASUS TUF Gaming A16 Advantage Edition (FA617NS) is a hefty machine at 4+ pounds with a 16" screen. It is definitely a beautiful laptop. The specs are really good, especially at this price-point and the ports are many including 2 USB-C, 2 USB-A (this makes me happy!), HDMI, Ethernet, and headphone. Can also be charged via USB-C - which makes it much more convenient than the dedicated charging "brick"that comes with it. I'm not used to playing games on a PC at all - normally I would use my PS5 console, but sometimes it's just good to change things up. So I got this ASUS laptop to give it a shot thinking a good gaming laptop would also be a good laptop for other uses as well, right? In this case, for the most part, the answer would be yes (and I needed one of those too!). I accepted the free 3 month trial X-Box ultimate pass included with this PC and downloaded a few free games to play on this laptop. I found it quite difficult to play any game with a mouse & keyboard so I then watched YouTube videos, googled: how do I pick up a weapon, etc. for a FPS (first person shooter) game. I finally figured out the easy stuff and got my Bluetooth gaming headphones on which I was able to pair up immediately and I have to say the so-so sound from this PC changed immediately to incredible sound! So I was able to play, though somewhat slowly, and it was great fun! I will definitely continue with some PC gaming. So there are a lot of good points to this laptop for sure, but there are some things which I encountered that I didn't expect. The laptop runs hot for me, even with just a little stress. Playing simple games, the fan was whirring and was so loud. There was a scene in a game I was playing where it was pouring rain and when the rain stopped, the sound continued. I was quite surprised to hear it was the FAN all along, not the rain that I was hearing. This fan issue is not an all the time thing, so I am waiting to see how things go. I also was seeing a delayed response from the touchpad - even when using as a word processor. I press the touchpad and nothing would happen - press it again... nothing... a 3rd time - it may or may not work. Weird for a brand new laptop with not a lot loaded and definitely not a lot running at once. It was most disheartening when this would happen during a simple game. All in all, I like this laptop a lot and I would recommend it. It will be a multi-use laptop for me for certain, and I appreciate that aspect as an added bonus to a good gaming laptop.

My third Asus laptop... and the best!

I spent two weeks looking for a replacement laptop when my old cheap one crashed and refused to boot no matter what I tried. First and foremost, no more sub-$500 laptops; upped the budget to eight to one thousand dollars. Fast CPU and separate video card for gaming. I found this one with a $300 discount from $1099.00 and it has incredible bang for buck value. Asus knows how to build laptops and I've built a few desktops based on Asus components. I haven't tried any gaming yet, but I've no doubt it can pull it's weight and more. You can upgrade the storage and memory (both of which are dirt cheap right now)... Ten plus hours of battery life makes it an excellent choice for college students too!

An excellent laptop. It has a spare storage slot and can be upgraded to up to 64GB of RAM (2x32GB). All upgrades can be made by unscrewing a mere 12 screws, all of which use the same screwdriver. The CPU and GPU are more than competanr enough to run games like Halo Infinite on ultra graphics while maintaining 60-90FPS. Linux support is solid on newer kernel versions. Without using kernel 6.5 or later, the keyboard will not work. Fedora Linux 39 ships with this.

The Asus Gaming A16 FA617 comes preloaded with Windows 11 and continues to amaze with all of its other features. Includes "Free Sync" which, when connected to a "free sync" monitor, ensures programs and monitors run at consistent speeds. The AMD Ryzen 7000 Series 7 processor provides plenty of power and with 8GB, and great graphics, it can handle most games easily. The 16" display is crystal clear and the bezel is so small you're viewing screen from edge to edge. The screen has an anti-glare feature so that the display is visible at most angles. You'll enjoy a great listening experience with the Dolby Atmos Sound, especially from such a compact, 2-speaker system. The 90wh battery provides long life, lasting up to 13 hours and it recharges quickly. Smooth keys react promptly and its a nice change to have a number keypad, which was missing from my last laptop. The buttons are well lit and easy to see. Volume buttons are separate and located above the function keys making them easy to find. The FA617 also includes a camera and microphone which isn't something necessarily included in a laptop these days. Connections include an ethernet port (often missing on so many laptops), 1 HDMI, 2 USB-A, and 2 USB-C ports. Although I typically use a mouse, the mouse pad on the FA617 is smooth and very responsive. It also features Bluetooth 5.2 so I can easily connect my mouse and/or keyboard as well. It also has multiple fans to keep things cool - even during the most hectic gaming applications. These provide increased airflow and are super quiet. Weighing less than 5lbs, it has nice, smooth hinges, and closes securely. Although it's lightweight, it certainly has the feel of a well-built product that will keep me entertained for years!

Best Buy's spec representation is inaccurate...

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is a really capable laptop for its size and price. It is definitely worth it. My issue, however, is with Best Buy's graphical representations of various specs. While I do agree with the categorization of the Ryzen 7 7735 APU, I do not agree with the Radeon RX 7600S being rated as the top tier GPU. Sitting between an RTX 4050 and 4060, the Radon RX 7600S should be classified as a mid-tier GPU. Now please don't take this as me saying that the GPU sucks (it doesn't!), but rather me informing all prospective buyers to not be misguided by the miscategorization of what Best Buy claims. With that being said, the Radeon RX 7600S GPU is able to perform very well on all sorts of games and tasks, including rendering art work. Definitely snag this machine while it's at this office.

The perfect gaming laptop!! My boyfriend gifted me this as my first pc so I could get into gaming with him. I’ve only had it for three days, but I can say it’s living up to my expectations. Everything runs super smoothly and it takes only like 5 seconds to boot up. I love the screen size and gamer look to this laptop, even thought it’s not flashy. It looks very sleek. I love it.

They didn’t skimp on anything important, such as the build quality, display options, the cooling module, the IO, or the size of the battery. The plastic-made main chassis and a non-RGB keyboard are acceptable. The overall construction is solid. The lid feels premium to the touch and is sturdy, but the smooth plastic used for the interior isn’t as nice, and the main deck flexes a bit in the middle of the keyboard. The laptop sits sturdy on the desk due to its grippy rubber feet, and the screen can be picked up and adjusted with a single hand. The A16 is not necessarily one of the lightest and most compact gaming notebooks. At a weight of 2.2 kg, the 16-incher you might find it bulky to travel with. The touchpad is impressive almost all across the board. In addition to its nice size, its gliding features are also pleasing. Extremely fast inputs are possible thanks to the smooth surface. The touchpad has precision and clean gesture support. However, the click buttons at the bottom are not quite perfect. These could be a little more stable and less rickety. The speakers are ok - nothing special. The cooling system can be a bit noisy but seems needed to keep the temperature down as it heats up fairly quickly. Compared to my previous gaming laptop this has been a nice upgrade. I am not a hard core gamer so this fit the bill for me.
