Great performance, awful coil whine

Performance wise the card is great, but it has a coil whine that is so terribly loud and high pitched. For an $1800 item that is unacceptable. I usually prefer ASUS products but this has been a big disappointment.

Dear Valued Customer,
We're sorry to hear that your Graphics Card has coil whine. It's unfortunate that this model does not meet your expectations, this is absolutely not the experience we want you to have. Coil whine is completely normal for graphic cards, unless the card has a functional issue. As long as the product functions correctly and without fault, any amount of coil whine is deemed acceptable and normal. Just like the car engine makes sound when you press on the gas.
Here are few ways you can reduce coil whine.
1. Get a soundproof case 2. Limit the frame rate of your games 3. Lower the graphical quality of your games 4. Underclock your GPU

I originally bought a XFX 7900xtx. Thing sounded like a jet engine. The 7900xtx had high idle power draw "100-140W" & GPU vram would stay maxed out if you had 2 or monitors plugged in. Couldn't play VR because the performance so bad & the color profile was off as well. The 4090 solved every problem I was having. Thing runs cool & quiet. Being part of ADM felt like I signed up for some beta program. Never again!

The GPU is great. But, Best Buy doesn’t offer a protection plan this GPU and while talking with a customer service employee at my local Best Buy was told Best Buy Total wouldn’t cover the GPU either, or any GPU they carry after checking in the system. Phone customer service should have provided me with this information instead of directing me to go add a plan in store. Or possibly have this information available on or before purchase though the app or online via disclaimer ( mainly due to Best Buy Total members not being able to receive service on these GPUs).

This review will not be about the card itself yet. Rather this will be about the shipping method. It’s no secret that 4090s are very expensive and STILL, 1.5 years after launch, hard to get your hands on. Finally, I was about to get one ordered successfully. Well, that joy turned to worry when UPS arrived to deliver my 4090. They walked in and handed me the box just as you would recieve it in-store. No packaging box, no protection, nothing whatsoever. The box shows clear signs of damage and mishandling, which can be seen in the pictures provided. This is absolutely unacceptable for Best Buy to be shipping high-end fragile electronics in this manner. All I can do is let other know to be careful and inspect your package. I’ll have my fingers crossed everything works as expected once installed.. DO BETTER, BEST BUY!!!

I have tried everything I can to get this card to work in my system. I returned the first one I purchased and received this new one a few days later and it still doesn't work. I have spent countless hours over the last 6 weeks on the phone with ASUS and they have offered to RMA the card but I am afraid it would take too long and that the issue is in the drivers and firmware. My current setup is an ASUS Z790 Maximus Hero and a 13900K with 64GB of G.Skill 6400 DDR5 RAM, a Seasonic 1000w PCIE 5.0 PSU, a Samsung 980 Pro 2TB SSD, a Corsair 360 AIO with LCD, and an EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra and it works great and I wanted to upgrade the 3090 to this new 4090 and it will lock the power draw to around 50 watts and won't work. I have reinstalled Windows from a USB drive and tried everything recommended from ASUS technical support. The weird thing is that the 4090 will work if I put it in my Z490 I9-10850K system. I am running out of time and patience and will probably just return it. ASUS has blamed my memory and CPU, both of which work fine with the 3090 installed. This thing cost too much money to not be plug n play. Their customer service and technical support is also subpar to say the least. Do yourself a favor and don't buy this.

Dear bobby0081,
It's unfortunate to hear that the graphics card failed to turn on. All our products do go through an intensive quality control testing process to ensure that customers get units that are in proper working condition, what you've experienced was not intentional and this was a random case. Have you tried to use a different RAM stick inside your unit? Please attempt the steps from the FAQ below. For further troubleshooting, feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] and provide this case number (N12345) for reference. I'll do my best to provide a quick resolution to your case. I never got the chance to use it, I purchased it online, then drove 80 miles one way, to pick the video card up from the Davenport, Fl BestBuy store, then drove 80 miles back home, get my computer ready, removed the drivers, clean it a little, then open the box of new video card and instead of an Asus Tuf RTX 4090, I get a brand-new Asus Tuff RTX 3070ti, in its place, put all back in the box and re-installed my old graphics card, then next day I go to my local Bestbuy and go through the process of returning the card, Clearwater store called the Davenport store, and the clearwater store returned it, and refunded the money back to my BestBuy card, and then about an hour later I got a call from the Daven port store, they went thought the security video and found out what happened before I picked up the card, and they apologized for the issue, and sent in via UPS me a instore gift card for like 20 bucks I think, I gave it to my younger brother. I'm sure it is a great card that will allow the card to pull the full 600 watts they were designed to do. "One Star" for Bestbuy, those cards are secured, they aren't just floating around the store, but employee was caught and hopefully punished, it only cost me 3 hours of my life in traffic and 160 extra miles on my car and gas. So, from this point on and all online purchases I do at BestBuy and even the replacement RTX 4090 I purchased from BestBuy a month later, I opened the video card box in store to make sure the card was correct.

Blazing fast. Super Cool (48c-52c in gaming). Very large card, so make sure you have the space in your case for it. The build quality looks and feels premium.
I was worried about coil whine when I first read some reviews, but it has been whisper quiet for me.

This card is freaking awesome, it runs really well, fortunately I did not get any coil whine, but temps are straight up reasonable, and dual slot holders mean you can vertical mount for most cases. Great build.

Well made card and the performance is what you would expect out of a 4090. This card has no problem playing current titles at maximum graphics settings.
I currently have this card paired with a 5800x3D and 32gb Of DDR4 3600mhz RAM and I play at 4k Resolution. Cyberpunk 2077 Is the most demanding title I've tried currently and with all settings at High/Ultra with Pathtracing on and DLSS performance mode I will get 80-100 FPS depending on where I'm at in the game.

Almost did not keep this card after I bought it due to reviews of coil whine being an issue. Well I maxed out this card using FurMark for over 30 minutes, played multiple games and benchmarked it. There is ZERO coil whine and it is blazing quick. This is a great card and really is probably one of the better ones. Super quiet and just performs amazing.

This card is high performance and meets all benchmarks as expected so there’s not much to say there except you can hit crazy FPS using ultra settings. Due to this being the top performing card currently available I’ll only focus on the downsides. Firstly the thing is huge. I’ve put it in a 1000D super tower and it barely fits but I had to remove custom loop components in order to do so. Make sure you have the space to install this before you buy. Second, the coil whine is absurdly loud and extremely annoying during game play making headphones a must for anyone sensitive to the constant high pitch screaming of this card. Third, the power draw is equally insane. With averages during game play around 400-450w and peaks over 500w the heat coming off this card raises my ambient room temperature in a 12x14ft room by a noticeable 3 degrees warmer. Make sure you have a PSU that’s up to the task. The card temp is around 55c at full load with stock air cooling. Hopefully once I get a water block for this it will improve the temperatures but not sure how long I’ll be able to tolerate the ear piercing screeching from the coil whine of this card.

Extremely powerful card, I do a lot of coding programming, and gaming, and the 4090 takes everything thrown at it. I can easily run any game with top settings with over 100 FPS.
This was one of the few pieces left for my Tuf build and it fits right in, make sure you have enough space and power in your case for this monster.

This product I so amazing with the speeds and how nicely packaged it was. I used to run a 3060TI and this doesn’t come anywhere close to it, the 4090TUF is the best graphics cards to run, you won’t have any problems with games now working with this anymore. Although it doesn’t come with enough power cables but that is the only CON.
