You can have DVDs lie down on their back, but there's still empty space. The shelves are not adjustable, so it's stuck that way. Otherwise it's not a terrible shelf and gets the job (mostly) done.

I love the space this has!

This piece of furniture takes care of that and then some! You can anchor this to a wall and it will stay there and it is a sturdy DVD stand.
