I phoned audio-technical and a technician helped me change some settings on my laptop. After being unsuccessful in getting rid of error messages he said that he would call back after researching this problem. It has been over two weeks and I still don't know if my turntable usb is defective or not. When I took the included usb cable in to Best Buy I was told to buy an other usb cable and see if that one worked. It did not work! Now I have two cables and I am not able to transfer vinyl to digital! Do I have a defective turntable?

I had seen many excellent reviews of this turntable so I was very disappointed when it failed to meet expectations. The problem was low frequency feedback called microphonics or rumble at an amazingly loud level. The plinth itself nearly turned into a speaker it was vibrating so hard. I returned it the next day. Three more turntable trials later and I finally found a great but kind of pricey (twice as much) turntable in the Fluance RT85. Pure analog!

After setting the unit up, I used it for about 15 hours of playback. When I tried to play a record yesterday, the deck won't turn. Power is on. Press the button for playback, press the start button and nothing turns.

The turntable doesnt shut itself off. Its a major flaw and pain. Good way to wear out your needle and your turntable. Save your money for a real turntable unless your a DJ and watching your turntable 24/7.

    Solid - Almost Great Turntable

Overall I feel this is a very solid turntable with great sound. As other reviewers has said it's a mid-range turn table and I'd place it toward the bottom of the middle range. My reference points are the Audio Technica AT-PL50 (from 2006 - forerunner to the current LP60) and a 70's era Dual 1228 (which is in need of some refurbishment at this point) - both hand me downs. I purchased the AT-LP120X turntable expecting it to replace the super cheapo, but decent sounding PL50. Upon first impressions, the LP120X is a very solid turntable. Be advised it is LARGE - about a third wider than the PL50/LP60, so make sure you read the specs and have room for it. Setup was straightforward enough, although the process to balance the tone arm is crude (and I am well familiar with how to do this). Once everything was set up, I did a side by side comparison between the LP120X and the PL50 to evaluate the differences. After going back and forth between the two tables, on several different tracks from a JJ Grey album (which I feel is a quality recording), I was shocked at how overall minimal the difference was between the two tables! For reference my audio system is an Onkyo TX-SR393 with Sony SS-B3000 speakers. Both turntables were compared using their built in pre-amp since the Onkyo does not have a Phono input. Granted, I understand the PL50 came with a vastly superior "cartridge" to what's included in the current LP60 offering, but regardless, I was expecting a much more significant difference in sound quality between the two tables. The LP120X had a bit more balanced sound with slightly more treble/clarity and slightly less bass than the PL50. Again, these differences were very subtle although I'll concede they may well be more pronounced on a higher end system. Additionally, for how heavy the overall turntable is, I was shocked at how light the platter is - I put it on a food scale and it only weighs 1lb 10oz (without the felt)! Also, when raising the cueing, the tone arm would not raise directly up - it would slide outward by a good quarter inch. And this is with the anti skating and tracking force both properly set to 2 (grams) as instructed. I haven't seen this mentioned in other reviews, so not sure if mine has a problem with the anti skating setting or what. Regardless I didn't find this particularly impressive. The fully manual operation didn't bother me though as I've been used to it since the aforementioned Dual has only functioned as a fully manual turntable for years. So in summary, while I had high hopes of this being a solid replacement for my ailing Dual (with the bonus of a built in pre-amp), and a significant upgrade from my PL50, I was left a bit underwhelmed. With that said, it's still a solid entry level "real" turntable for those wanting more control and features than the basic models offer (LP60), yet being comfortable with the fully manual operation. Unfortunately in my situation, it wasn't enough of an improvement over what I already have to justify keeping it for the price paid, so it's going back.

    Excellent turntable

This is my second Audio Technica turntable. The first (at-lp120 USB), has a high quality Shure M97x cartridge installed, and has been flawless. I purchased this to transfer my albums to digital without having to constantly remove the other from the rack. On to review... Table was packed well, and securely. Assembly and adjustment was straightforward. When doing the static balance, make sure to remove stylus guard - be careful of stylus during balancing, Do not balance arm with guard installed - the slight weight will throw the "0" balance off. After doing assembly, balance, tracking, anti-skate, cueing height adjustments, I started platter, and speed was dead on - absolutely no fluctuation I could see. Cueing worked fine, but would like to see better damping on lowering. Starting torque was good - the platter starts quickly. When stopping, it did coast much longer than my earlier model. The "feet" seemed to provide good acoustic damping. I do not discern any audible rumble, even at fairly high volume levels. The cartridge is a modest one, but seemed to track albums okay. Could always install a better cartridge. Please keep in mind, this is a manual turntable, and must be operated manually. All in all, this is an excellent turntable, and a worthy performer in anyone's system.

This is an excellent turntable you are looking to get into vinyl, it has an updated tonearm and cartridge over the last model and i can tell the difference in sound, it may be a little tricky to set it up if you are a beginner but there are plenty of tutorials on YouTube on how to get it going properly. You wont be disappointed

    An easy set up

This turntable is an easy set up for me, took all of 30 minutes from unboxing to rolling our first vinyl. Quality of chassis and mechanicals seems high end, features built in will stand up to other tables that are considerably more pricey. I'm only a day into this product but so far it seems to exceed my expectations. Quality of signal appears high-end with no noticeable drop outs top or bottom. Disclaimer: I have not yet tried the built in preamp as my receiver has a preamp built in for the phono signal.

Junk. Do not buy. Broken out of the box. Twice

Junk. Bought two before giving up: identical issues with both. Grainy and distorted sound out of left speaker (speakers were brand new and bought at Best Buy also). Exchanged and upgraded the speakers as I thought they were the problem. Nope. Same problem continued. Then returned to Best Buy and bought new receiver. Set that up. Identical issue. THEN return this turntable for another of same model. Same distorted problem continued. Aaargh. Returned the second turn table and audio tech at BestBuy said that distortion issue was chronic with this model. Likely bad wiring in needle assembly. Bought a Roland turntable and it worked perfectly out of the box. So do not buy this product. BestBuy shouldn’t even carry it.
