Impressive camera on an easy to fly drone.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This drone is a bit challenging to setup but works well once it is done. Out of the box, it needed a firmware upgrade to fix the gimbal calibration. The horizon was constantly angled but Autel support advised to do some additional gimbal adjustments in flight via the phone app and it was fixed. Now, it is working well. The images are amazing and the camera stability for videos is spectacular as long as I do not do any crazy maneuvers. Flight time on one battery is about twenty-seven minutes on a full charge. However, the drone will want to return home at the first low battery indication when around five minutes are left or when it knows it is about to reach a point of no return. If the low battery indicator is ignored, it will land at its current position once the battery reaches the critical level. This is fine as long as it is not flying over water or somewhere inaccessible. I love the controller! It is small and compact when not in use but unfolds into a comfortable size. The controls are well placed and extremely responsive. The display is easy to read. If a phone is not used, the display has all data on one screen. However, it is best to connect a smartphone so the controller screen is dedicated to flight data and the phone screen can be dedicated to the camera display and controls. While the drone battery runs down as expected, the controller battery has a surprisingly high capacity. After at least five full flights / drone battery discharges, the controller battery is still close to 80%. I really have no idea how long it is going to take before it needs to be charged. It is also important to note that the live image quality and speed coming from the drone to the smartphone via the controller is excellent. There is little to no visible latency between the camera and the screen. When it comes to flying, Autel has a series of videos online to teach anyone how to fly. While this drone is by no means a toy, it is easy enough for a responsible child to fly it. I would say that this drone is more of a camera with a drone attached to it than a drone with a camera attached to it. I would not use it to do tricks or show off. Instead, I would use it to create spectacular aerial images and videos. In many cases, the drone will protect itself from damage. If it senses obstacles in front, behind, or below, it will reduce speed in that direction to avoid a crash. The only time this becomes annoying is when the landing zone is close to a large obstacle. In one case, it wanted to land on water because I was standing too close to a wall. I learned to come in sideways to land when near an obstacle so the sensors do not see it. Obviously, the pilot needs experience flying before landing in tight spaces. They recommend starting in an open field. However, anyone with a little experience should be comfortable flying after watching the manufacturer’s videos and completing a few practice flights. Extremely bright LED lights are located on all four arms of the drone. They are highly visible even in the middle of the day. Solid red LED’s are usually showing on the front arms and flashing green is the most common color on the rear arms. This indicates that all systems are normal and the drone has a good GPS signal from enough satellites to maintain proper control. Other colors indicate various details like low battery, poor GPS signal, loss of signal from the controller, or other faults. Obviously, the controller will advise the pilot of these as well, but it is nice to know these basic details without having to take eyes off the drone. The motors are surprisingly quiet. At idle, the blades can be heard spinning but they are barely audible. At takeoff, the sound level increases but it is still quieter than expected. In flight, it is louder when moving and fairly quiet when hovering unless it is fighting a strong wind. There are some videos online demonstrating how much quieter it is compared to other models on the market. For storage, the drone came with a 32 GB microSD card. I pop it out and plug it into my computer directly since that is ultimately where I want the data. It is also possible to download the images from the drone to the smartphone via the controller and app. The data transfer rate is fast for images. I have not tried yet for video. Overall, I am happy. This does what it is made to do and it does it well. Autel did not seem to cut corners. They made a solid piece of hardware. It had a software bug, but it is fixed with the firmware updates. The one caveat is that anyone using this drone should plan to use a smartphone with it anytime they are flying. While it is possible to fly without a phone, it is not really intended to work that way.

Easy on beginners
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First time owning a “real” drone. I’ve bought those micro drones before but did not enjoy them as they were hard to fly. Figured I’d give this a shot. I used to play with RC cars and planes when I was younger and the drones have been tempting me for a while. Overall, this is really easy to fly. You can set it up in novice and take advantage of all the built-in safety features. Or you can dig into the advanced settings and take the training wheels off. Needless to say I’m sticking with novice mode for a while. The drone is real easy to fly and the obstacle detection works well to keep you from crashing it into something. Due to living near a flight restricted area, I haven’t had a chance to get this out to a location where I can put the range and altitude capabilities to the limit. The tracking mode is a great feature. I haven’t been able to figure out the orbit function yet. Flight time is good. Only having one battery is a damper though so you should definitely a must. I wear an extra large glove size, so the handles on the controls feel small to me. It would also be nice if they include a cable for lightning ports. They only include cables for micro-USB and USB-C. The tabs for the port covers seem a bit stiff. The one for the back of the drone is already broken, so it’ll be prone to get lost if I’m not careful. The one cover the memory card slot and the ports on the remote feel like they’ll break too with repeated use. We’ll see. Overall, I’m happy with the drone and look forward to getting more flight time and improving my flight skills.

This drone is awesome!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve flown a couple of drones before—both my sons have very small ones—but never anything like this baby. Out of the box it’s an amazing looking machine. I loved the orange color mixed with the black. It’s sleek and expensive looking. It took roughly an hour to get the set up complete, mostly because the battery to the drone only had about ¼ charge out of the box. The cables you need for most operations are included. Both the handset and the drone battery have to be charged (though the handset was at about 85% and uses battery MUCH more slowly than the drone uses its battery). The drone battery charger connection is a proprietary design, so I imagine there are no aftermarket chargers available should you ever need a replacement. Unpacking the drone was simple and mostly involved removing cardboard, protective plastic (to keep it shiny!) and unfolding the rotor arms. Connect the battery and power up the controller and you're all set. Though you should probably be outside before actually flying. As I mentioned before, I’ve only ever flown very simple drones, so the controls—while basically the same—still took some getting used to. You can use the controller that comes with the drone, or attach your phone to the controller via the included cable (so long as it’s not an Apple phone I guess? I have an S9 so that wasn’t an issue for me) and use your phone rather than the screen. There is a simple app download that walks you through getting your drone connected to your phone and shows a lot of the basic instructions. All the basic flight functions are controlled via the two joysticks--you get used to it very quickly. When it starts you’ll notice immediately how much noise this makes. (My dog sure noticed—she did not care for the drone) You’ll want to be aware of this depending on the situation (i.e. your neighbors might not appreciate it much, or if you’re in the mountains, etc, you might want to be aware of what time you’re flying it so as to avoid breaking noise ordinances or the like). The noise does dissipate well at a short distance. It also gives off a large amount of rotor-wash directly under it (a fact my kids just loved). The take-off and landing function worked well most of the time, though the drone occasionally had issues if it was crossed up with the collision avoidance system. Occasionally it just didn’t want to move and would hit it’s “hover point” rather than continuing to land. The controls for this were a lot of fun and mostly intuitive. If you’re a gamer, it feels a lot like a video game controller. If you’re watching the screen the whole time it feels a lot like a portable video game. The controller is comfortable, and all three of my kids gave it a go (under VERY close supervision) and had no issues understanding the basics of the controls. There are joysticks and trigger buttons, as well as two programmable buttons on the back. The biggest issue I had with the controller were these buttons. I ran it without programming them for anything, then decided I wouldn’t due to how many times I hit them by accident. If I do decide to program them for something it won’t be any movement related function, as they’re just too awkwardly placed. The screen and picture quality are just breathtaking. The screen has a nice, bright display that was every bit as nice as viewing it on my Samsung S9. The video quality is outstanding, and the zoom seems to function well, though it starts to pixelate after a bit. In lower light it’s a bit grainy, but that’s true of almost any but the most high-end camera. There is no audio, so only video is recorded. With as noisy as the rotors can be that makes sense. If (like me) you’ve never flown an advance drone like this you’ll want to be aware of your altitude. This drone can go VERY high, which is neat, but can also be high enough to cause issues. We actually live in a neighborhood that occasionally has hot air balloons going overhead, so definitely make sure you’re aware of what’s going on in the air around your drone at all times (which is sound advice no matter what the situation, frankly). The battery life claims 30 minutes, and I suppose that’s possible if you aren’t doing much with it. The most I’ve gotten out of it so far is 26 minutes. If you plan on taking it out for extensive filming, you’ll need the charger and at least one more battery. The “collision avoidance” system works pretty well, but I learned the hard way that it only applies to things in front of the drone. I can tell you from experience that this drone is very durable, since I managed to fly it full speed backwards into my house (boy I’d love to blame my kids for that one, but nope, all me). The battery popped off and two of the arms folded back in, but I configured it back into the operating position (and maybe said a prayer) and it worked just fine. It also showed no damage—not even a scratch. Of course, your mileage may vary, so I’d probably recommend not flying it into things at all. A wonderful bonus is the carrying case that’s included. It holds the drone, battery, controller, all the cords and has ample space for another battery, as well as extra pockets for extra SD cards or longer cords, etc. It’s surprisingly nice for an included bag and has a carry strap to boot! There are TONS of technical aspects to this thing (note: many of which are not covered in the ‘manual’—which is more of a spec sheet with basic hook-up instructions really) that I won’t bore you with here. The website covers all of these and advanced operation extensively. Just know that it’s easy to get going, easy to operate and a LOT of fun. You may want another battery, but other than that it really does include everything you need to operate it. If you are in the market for an expensive drone that takes really nice video then I highly recommend this one.

5 stars for the EVO Drone
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first drone, so unlike others who have previous experience in this product space, my review comes from the perspective of a novice. That said, the first thing I noticed is that the EVO feels really well made. You don’t get the sense that it will fall apart if you cause a poor landing. The unit comes with a soft carrying case, plus some spare replacement blades and an installed 32GB SD card. All cables necessary to charge both EVO and Controller simultaneously are included. Right out of the box, the EVO is set to record video at 4k. I flew the unit a few times while recording only to find that one flight that was less than 10 minutes generated a 1gb+ video file. That’s way too big in my opinion, so I dropped the video resolution down to keep the file sizes in check. Video recordings on the EVO are extremely stable and lack any sense of jitter during flight. From my perspective, top-notch. You can also snap a picture while the EVO is recording video, and those pictures came out looking great, too. Recharging the batteries of the controller and drone take as long as 180 minutes and 80 minutes, respectively, depending on how depleted the batteries are. It’s a good idea to get some spare batteries and to have them fully charged if you plan on using the EVO for more than 30 minutes – which is how long one fully charged battery is supposed to last. Not sure if 30 minutes will prove accurate in the long run. The controller has a bracket for holding your cell phone, plus cables that provide a phone-to-controller connection that fit most (if not all) non-iPhone-type phones. iPhone users will likely have to provide their own cable since one was not included. The EVO’s documentation indicates that it has a range of over 4 miles, which I couldn’t confirm. We live in an area surrounded by trees, so the EVO’s obstacle avoidance features were tested to the max. Fortunately, all ended well. The controller and phone app are stocked with a ton of features, way too many to list here. I spent most of my time controlling the unit manually to see how the EVO would react with the many trees we have on our property. Again, I didn’t encounter any problems during these flights. I thought the Orbit feature – which had the EVO circling above our house while video recording - was very cool. I plan on trying the Waypoint and the Follow features on an upcoming vacation where trees and other obstacles are at a minimum. Being a novice when it comes to drones, I can’t say if this unit will ultimately unseat any of the big players in this market space or not. All I know is that the EVO is a lot of fun and easy to use, it takes outstanding photos and videos, and has exceeded my expectations.

Great aerial video platform!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my third drone and by far the best I have owned. The EVO weighs not quite (2 pounds) and includes a carrying case along with a 32 GB microSD card. The microSD card is protected by a hatch cover on the right side of the aircraft and is easy to get to. The EVO is very solid and well-made. Setup is simple. If you live in the US I encourage you to use the smartphone app B4UFLY for rules and restrictions in the airspace. The charger can charge both the drone and the controller batteries simultaneously. Flight Performance is good and helps in the video capture side of things. My battery life has been between 20-30 minutes. My radio range is about one mile in the city – needs to stay within eyesight based on current regulations. I really like the Anti-Collision System. Several warnings appear on the video feed as it approaches an obstacle and past a certain point it will refuse to move forward if you are on collision course. The image quality is quite good. The camera has a reasonable dynamic range and low-light sensitivity. If needed there are neutral density filters that can be purchased. The design of the controller is similar to many drone and video game controllers with a very nice feature - the controller can display the video without the need of a smartphone thereby reducing potential problems.

Fantastic Drone!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What a fun drone this is!!! I've had so much fun flying this thing. Ludicrous mode is AWESOME!!! Packaging : each part comes individually boxed. Didn't expect the carrying case but was a much needed item Charger - it is kind of loud during charging. ON positive side, does charge both Battery and Remote on same charger. Wish you could charge items in the bag though. Battery is replaceable. Instructions: Drone is easily setup and very intuitive to fly. Although the included directions are limited. But with a little exploration and caution. All items can be figured out easily. I like to read manuals so was a little bummed on this. The Phone app is fantastic and put together well. Spend some time there to learn all you can do with this drone. Accessories: included of course is the drone and remote obviously. But also includes phone connection cable. Both USB micro and USB-C connection cables are included. Also has convenient storage and carry bag! The misco SD card is 32GB. In my test flight I took a 30sec 4K video, this took up about 1GB. So if you intend to do some recording you may want to invest in a larger card or reduce the video quality. Notes: 1. Camera is a digital zoom - using the zoom function on the drone does result in bad image. Best option was to zoom in my video app on PC - image was much better. 2. Camera has some issues with low lighting - Only issue I found with it. Overall, this drone did everything I would expect, The remote puts it above all the others in my opinion. Its very compact and easy to take along on trips without taking up much space. While I would prefer the hard case over the soft. It does fit quite snug and travels well. Not much room for other accessories but everything fits in the pockets. Price is very competitive. Providing more options and flight time compared to other models..

Wow! Excellent drone!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My son and I love this EVO drone. I have been flying a XIRO Xplorer for the last year and when I compare the two, it isn't even close. To begin the EVO is a much sturdier drone. If you have been flying drones for a while, this isn't as important, but if you are fairly new with drones, then I would highly consider this. When I first started flying the XIRO, my son and I had some crashes and got some pretty good knicks on the XIRO. Now that we have good flying experience, we rarely crash, but if that happened with the EVO, I can tell that it would take a pretty good crash to damage it. If you are just starting out with the EVO, I would stick to the controller they provide, but if you are more experienced, then definitely download their app and take control with your phone. I really like that you have those two options. The other aspect of this EVO that really stood out, was the video quality. The video quality that I can get from this EVO is ten times better than the XIRO. The EVO will give you a good solid 20 minutes of fly time and will alert you when it is down to less than 5 minutes of battery to ensure to bring it back home with plenty of time. It only takes about an hour and half to fully recharge the drone battery. The controller will last charged for much longer. If you are a novice flyer, I like that it has object avoidance going forward and that you can bring it back home with the touch of a button. The controller itself has many buttons which sometimes can be accidentally pressed if you aren't careful, that is why I prefer to use my phone to fly the EVO. If you are looking for a good solid drone that will take beautiful pictures and video, I would highly recommend this EVO from Autel.

This was intimidatingly fun
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me first say that I had never been close to a drone, let alone flown own. But, I'll give my commentary a little later. Autel packaged the EVO very well protecting the camera and the props. Along with the drone it came with extra props, an SD card, the battery, hand held remote, mobile connectors with both a 'C' and standard android end, charging cables for the battery and remote and carry case, which looks like a well padded camera case. Not knowing what to expect I was kind of surprised by how heavy it was, I'm thinking kind of feather light but it actually has the weight of a brick. It took a minute to get the protective cover off of the gimbal, and when I did the camera sort of flops around so I thought it was broken...its not. I then removed the plastic from around all 4 props and from the hand held. To remove the battery you press the button on top and slide it out, this is kinda tricky because there's no finger grip on the smooth plastic. Connecting the charger was a breeze and being able to charge both the battery and handheld with that same cable is nice. Sorry folks, because I have absolutely nothing to compare this to I can't give you facts or figures, but for others like me who have never had this experience before I can give you my maiden flight perceptions. I did tons of YouTube research on on how to fly it and what it was capable of doing. This is something I would suggest to any novice flyer. First things first, I registered it with the FAA for 3 years with a cost of $5. I also downloaded the Autel and the B4UFLY (FAA) apps. The latter was somewhat useless to me. I do recommend the Autel it gives the opportunity to do inline recording of the flight. I then read the manual from front to back, which really got me more intimidated. OK, so it's fly day everything is charged 100%. I went to a high school on a Saturday, the parking lot was empty. After putting the drone on the concrete, and unfolding the propeller arms I turned on the handheld first and then the drone (you are urged to do it in that order). I also remembered to give it time to go thru it's diagnostic check and aquire the GPS location. The confidence level is starting to grow! Then I started it up by pushing the two remote handles together...the props were spinning and then I pushed the button for land takeoff but got nothing but an error beep, I tried again and again with the same results so I looked to make sure all of the packaging was off, it was. That's kinda when I realized everything I read and watched had flown out the window. I got back in the car dejected to re-read take offs and landings LOL. It was just a minor mistake, I needed to HOLD the take off/landing button or push the left remote knob forward. So here I go and, it's a go this time It sounds like a large bee on steroids amplified by 10! As the drone lifts off the ground (amazing) I try to get a feel for each knob movement and what it will do, if I do no movements it just hovers. This is about 6' off the ground at this point, and after 5 minites of this I feel ready to fly. So I go straight up about 30 feet and start moving forward, kind of afraid to loose sight of it I start flying her within eyesight I'm not confident enough to fly by looking at the remote with my cell attached. I didn't swivel the gimbal for different camera angles, nor did I put the petal to the metal all I wanted to do was get a feel for it without losing it. I kinda forgot about the home button which would have automatically brought it back. I was very careful to bring it down slowly landing on concrete smoothly. No crashes, no near misses, no getting snagged in the trees. While it wasn't a long flight, it was fun and I do have a few takeaways to share. 1. Drone flying is the closest one can get to being a pilot without a license. 2. Take time to know your drone and understand its limitations. 3. Dont expect to be an ace the first time out. 4. Starting out with a $1000 drone may not be th smartest way to go but, if you're gonna do it why not go big. Practice makes perfect! Ive heard a lot about the competition to the Autel Robotics, but I must say I cant imagine what they can do to beat this baby. P.S. as my flying and recording becomes more fluid I will revisit this post if I can with an upload.

Too much fun!!!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this Drone! It's super easy to fly, it takes amazing video too. The gimbal for the camera is so stable that if I let the drone hover while taking video, it actually looks like a still photograph. There's no shaking, wobbling, or stutter. The video is nice and vivid with everything nicely in focus. I can't wait till the leaves start changing color so I can take my drone up in the mountains and video the forest. I never thought that just flying around taking pictures and video could be so much fun.

Great 4K portable drone
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Before I get into this review, I just wanted to share my experience with drones. I own a few which includes a 3DR Solo, Yuneec Typhoon H, Yuneec Breeze and few toy drones. My perspective of this drone will come partially from my past experience and knowledge of those in comparison to this one. I had been waiting to purchase the Autel EVO from since the beginning of the year when they revealed it at a drone conference. It looked like it was going to be a strong competitor to DJIs Mavic Pro series drones with one of the major feature being that it could shoot 4K at 60fps and that it would possibly released with a 1" sensor. When it shipped, it did not have a 1" sensor like may thought it would but it's ability to shoot 4K at 60fps is stellar and still make it the leader thus far in that right. My experience with this drone so far has been somewhere between good and great. I am amazed at the level of tech that can be crammed into something this size when just a few years ago, drones twice the size of this one had a lot less features. Being able to take this on a trip with you and packing into carry-on luggage is priceless. As I said previously, I do own a Yuneec Typhoon and if you know anything about that drone, you know that it's a way larger platform. I can fit it into the overhead bin in a plane but it's a piece of luggage in itself. Then I still had to carry an extra bag with my personal items. Depending on what airline you use, you may be charged a fee for an additional item. When it was first released, the individuals that ordered them on release day got a travel bag for free which was a nice touch. There were a few issues with the firmware which caused the horizon to be tilted because of the gimbal but Autel has released updates which addressed this so it has been corrected. Also, at the time of this review, the iOS app has not been released but there is a beta version of the app directly from Autel when you register your drone with them. As much as I like my EVO, there are a few cons. In comparison with the Mavic Pro platform, this drone is slightly bigger and heavier than the Pro. DJI has also recently released the Mavic Pro 2 which has a 1" sensor and the Mavic Pro 2 Zoom which has a feature that allows you to zoom in on a subject. One other con is that since Autel is a smaller player in this category, there are not a not of aftermarket accessories for it at this time. That being said, if you want a portable drone that is very well made and high quality that can shoot stellar 4K footage and photos but would like to go with something other than what DJI offers, then this is is the drone for you.

Excellent drone!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This drone is amazing, let me start: Packaging: While most people don't care about the box their product comes in, I could tell that Autel put thought into their box. High quality cardboard and foam inserts. I feel like I could throw this thing in its box off into the Grand Canyon and it would survive without a scratch. In the box: The drone, controller, charger, battery, two cables to connect your phone, SD card and a bonus shoulder bag. features: PACKED! This drone is packed full of features that are equal to, or greater than its competitors. Front, rear and below obstacle sensors, gps, 3 axis 4K camera, controller with built in screen, and much much more! Flight modes: This drone includes MANY flight modes, from the basic to the extreme, including a "ludicrous" mode to allow 45 MPH flight. There are many autonomous modes to use, and from my testing they all work very well. Waypoint flight, track an object and many more. I use the dynamic object tracking quite a bit and it works VERY well. Design: Folding design allows this drone to travel easily. When unfolded, it is large enough to withstand a descent wind and be a very stable craft. In flight: This baby cruises! Very quick to respond, and so many features I can't type them all. I LOVE the included screen on the controller. This allows you to use the drone without a smart device attached, or in unison with. You can fly with the camera first person view right on the controller, or have it display a bunch of flight information such as battery life, signal strength, speed, altitude and more. When used in unison with a smart device and app, the world opens up. You are able to use your larger device to show camera view, while using the controller to display flight info. Camera: The built in, 4K 3 axis gimble camera is amazing. There are many different options to choose from, but I found that leaving it on auto got very good results, while leaving me more time to fly and get video/pictures rather than changing settings. If, though, you have specific settings you need, everything is there for you to change. I am very impressed with the camera setup on this drone. Flight time: stated 30 minutes, realistically 20-25 minutes is what you will get out of this drone which is still very respectable. Range: While I did not test the stated 4.5 mile range, I flew it around 1 mile away and had excellent signal strength the entire time, in areas where I have completely lost signal with competitors drones. No video dropouts, no glitches. it worked perfectly. Cons: doesn't include an iPhone cable, but you can use any charging cable that you have, so not really a big deal. controller design allows you to hit the backside buttons quite easily. I found myself pushing these buttons quite a bit, thankfully they don't really do anything right now, but from what I understand they will allow customization in the future. In summary: excellent drone with many features. Well built and highly recommended.

Best high end drone for newbies!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Summery: This is a very easy drone to fly, it looks great, it flies great, it shoots images and videos great, a good range, and speed, 2 different ways to take off, no real need for a mobile phone to operate, and NO need for mandatory updates before flying and not locked in no fly zones. Package contents: - The drone - Battery - Extra 2 propellers - 32 GB micro SD card already inserted - Remote controller with 3.3 lcd screen that allows to receive video feed. - Charger that charges both the battery and the remote control at the same time - Micro USB cable, and a USB C cable - The quick start guide and safety information Drone design and durability The drone is beautiful, sleek design that stands out with its foldable design that gives it a huge portability and can be easily stored in any backpack if you don’t have or want to carry the drone bag itself which is small enough to mistake it for a dslr camera bag. The built is sturdy and I have to admit that it took some hits and fell while I was trying to fly it (INDOORS) with the sensors off. The propellers literally made holes in the wall when the drone hit it and were undamaged. The gumball seems very sensitive and woobly when the drone is turned off so I can’t emphasize enough on how important it is to use the shield provided when the drone is not in use. Software: EVO’s software is very easy to learn and master, but remember that practice is very very important with any drone because aside from damaging your drone, it might cause serious damage if it hits people or property. The remote controller is enough to use the drone but you will need the Autel explorer app to unlock all features and customize your flying experience. The video quality is mind blowing @4K with 60 fps. Image quality is great as you might expect as well with available filters to use for both modes. One of the best things is that the drone is not locked by Geo fencing, so it can literally fly anywhere, but be sure to comply AND register your drone with the FAA. Its takes 5 minutes and costs $5 to register your drone for 3 years. I also liked that the drone has a novice mode that you can activate if this is your first drone or if you are still practicing. The novice mode limits the speed to 8 miles per hour, as well as hight and it won’t let you turn the censors off. Cons: Battery life sucks! Its no where near to the advertised 30 minutes, and if you live in the DMV area like I do where you can’t fly the drone unless you drive at least an hour and a half to be out of a no fly zone ( you also cant fly drones in any national park). It will be really hard to enjoy the experience with 20 minutes flight time and 3 hours plus of travelling. So I highly recommend buying another battery for your drone. This drone, like most high end drones only records video feed, no audio, so you will need a video editor for converting and adding a video footage for playback. The drone should have came with an extra 4 pairs of propellers at least. When you drop $1000 for a drone, this should be a no brainer. The drone and the remote controller should have came with a USB type C instead of using a regular USB port. The EVO does not have obstacle avoidance when flying in reverse. Aside from a warning there is nothing else. Follow me feature still needs work but I am sure it will be better with future software updates. Conclusion: The EVO is a great drone that can last for years and has great potential. The price seems about right but with established competition coming out with 2 new drones around the same price, I don’t know if this drone is going to be the go to for everyone. But I must say that AUTEL EVO’s after sale service is located in the US and this is a huge plus compared to the competition which is very week in this department.

Amazing Drone!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first "serious" drone and I have to say I couldn't be more pleased. Setup: The Evo comes well packaged with a clear quick start guide. After charging the batteries I was up and flying in no time. Upon first start up and connecting the controller, drone and my Android smartphone, the software checked for and installed a new firmware package. The software took care of everything and I just had to wait a few minutes for the firmware to finish installing. This newest firmware resolves a few issues, most notably the "descent wobble" present in the earlier software. Controller: I'm very impressed with the ease of use of the controller and associated software. I find it very intuitive and easy to find what I'm looking for. I don't have to search through endless lists of menu items to get to the settings I need. Flying: The Evo flies very well and is quick and responsive to commands. My first flight was in a constant 8mph wind and the EVO stayed perfectly stationary when hovering. Take off and landing are extremely smooth and I didn't notice any "ground effect." The Evo is a pleasure to fly! Battery and charger: The drone comes with one 4200mah battery. The specs say up to 30min flying but that number is really more like 25min. Plus, when the battery reaches 15% the drone automatically has to return home, so actual flying time is probably about 20min on a single charge. The only minor complaint I might have is the battery charger. It's a standard brick/cable style charger, and I would favor a cradle style charger instead. Or it would have been nice if Autel included a charging hub to charge more than one battery at a time. You're going to want more than one battery anyway. The Evo should be at the top of the list for anyone considering a serious drone purchase.
