The Autel Robotics Evo is a well thought out drone with only minor drawbacks. First, as far as design, it is clear from the design that this drone hearkens to the design and layout of the other popular drone manufacturer. It has similar folding arms, a similar battery location and configuration, similar way the propellers attach to the arms, and even a similar camera gimbal. Because of this it is impossible to talk about the Evo without drawing some comparison with the other. There are, however, some unique aspects to this drone. First, the remote is a bit different, with the most glaring difference being that the remote has a 3" color OLED screen which makes need of a phone having to be connected completely optional, and really only required if you need functions offered by the Autel Explorer app. On the point of the App, I have to say it is dramatically easier to use than the app over the other brand. The options are more easily found and understood and less buried in layers of menus. That's not to say it is perfect however, as it is missing certain features, such as streaming capabilities, of which it has none. It also does not appear to have a natively stitched 360' picture mode. There's a slight annoyance when charging the remote a as it tends to turn on the built-in fan to keep the battery cool while charging. Being that the fan is small it tends to be a high pitched whine, and it's not terribly quiet. When using the remote outdoors this isn't much of a problem, but indoors while charging is a bit bothersome. Next, the flight of the drone itself is remarkably stable and smooth. I would argue that it was less prone to leap to new positions whether moving side to side or rotating when compared to the competition. This makes for a far more enjoyable viewing experience when watching the video recording back. The video quality itself is quite good, as are the pictures, however it seems to lean towards a blue shift in very bright situations. Speaking of bright situations, the 'auto' mode does not handle them well and I had to switch to manual mode and adjust the shutter speed in order to get both reasonable stills and video. All in all, I would say that this is a worthy competitor in the rapidly expanding consumer drone market with only minor caveats.

The packaging was impressive right out of the box, sturdy & individual boxes for everything. We received a very nice travel bag with it which looks like a camera bag. As far as the drone, it is very sturdy, having crashed it a few times, it held up well. Set up was easy and its easy to use. I flew it in the daylight & was impressed at how quickly it takes off & also how high it goes, it was a fairly windy day & it didn't affect the flight at all. I took video & a few pictures which you can take right on the controller, I also downloaded the app & took video & pictures with that too. I recommend the app because you can watch where you are flying & it also warns you when objects are close by. You do have to have a USB connected to your phone & the controller so I suggest a short cable. I used an iPhone 8 & it fit in the holder with the case on, iPhone 8+ only fit without the case. You can also connect an iPad. It was a cloudy day so the pictures were ok, I also flew it at dusk & the pictures were as expected, just ok. I love quality camera pics so I'm not big on cell phone pics, so I'd have to say the quality of these pics just didn't do it for me. I will try on a sunny day to see if they're any better, this would be great for sunsets. You can use a mini sd card but I wasn't able to save the video or photos to my phone which I would've liked to do. The gimbel is adjustable. The battery charges pretty quickly & the box says flying time is 30 minutes, I'd say more like 20. The controller has a very bright OLED screen. This is very enjoyable to play with, I can't wait to use it more & find out all it can do.

Excellent, well built drone. NOT DJI!

As the other reviews that are posted here, this is a great drone and it works as it was designed. I, personally, am most impressed by the app, "Autel Explorer" that is used with the drone and it's build quality. The app just plain works. I had A LOT of trouble with the app for the DJI drones being a complete resource hog and very intrusive. A few of my tablets and even my daily phone would not run the DJI app reliably...The Autel app works on ALL my devices! It is not as feature rich as the DJI app but maybe that is why it works? There are a lot of reviews on here as well as on the internet describing this drone's features and performance so I can't add to that here. This is an expensive and technology-rich device so anybody looking to purchase this should absolutely gather all the info you can. I am glad to have this drone in the market and working so well so that there will be some competition in this market.

Solid drone with good features but BEWARE.. I bought it for the intelligent flight modes, range, and sensors, along with great camera. First flight, signal drops, goes into RTH sequence, doesn't rise to the altitude I set it at, then started coming home and losing altitude until it hit a tree and fell about 90 feet. Still flies just fine, only thing wrong with it is the camera, but still an awfully big risk to take for $1,000.

No required updates, no restrictions, if you have charged batteries you can get out and fly quickly to get the shot, and the camera is phenomenal... Best in class for sure

As a complete newbie to drones I was hesitant to drop a big chunk of money on something like this. However, after trying a small, starter drone from another brand and enjoying it I started doing research. I was impressed with the reviews, features, and capabilities of the Autel EVO compared against the leading, trendy brands. I have to say, after making this purchase and getting my bonus goodies I don't think I could have been happier with a different make or model. This drone is great! Pros: 1. Expected flight time is accurate; you can definitely get 30 minutes per battery charge 2. Video is crystal clear and streams with very minimal lag 3. Return to home button is a lifesaver if you fly out of your line of sight and get lost 4. Durability is fortunately good - I accidentally ran it into a brick wall and it barely had a scratch on it Cons: 1. Flight range is a little confusing; manual says 4 miles but mine stopped and came back when it reached 1,600 feet 2. Do not try to catch the drone in your hand; the belly sensors will make it freak out and do crazy things 3. The Autel Explorer phone app is difficult to get connected; I still haven't been able to make use of it 4. The batteries are Li-Po and will eventually succumb to "memory" if you don't regularly exercise them through full charge cycles Overall I'm endlessly impressed with the ease of operation, the versatility, and the fun of this drone. I'm looking forward to many more days of exploration and videography.

    Poor Long Term Product Support

This review is in regards to Autel as a company and based on my experience owning two X-Star Premium drones in our family that both now have failed batteries, 3 batteries in total. The problem is not just that the batteries did not last very long, the bigger problem is that they stopped making battery replacements for the X Star altogether. Zero are available anywhere online. So the drones are obsolete due to lack of support by Autel. When Autel launched their major claim was superior service and stateside customer care 24/7 availability. This was not the case at all with the abandonment of the X Star lineup so abruptly leaving all of us early adopters with unserviceable drones. So could be the new models are great flyers but if they abandon them as soon as the new model comes out like with the X Star then it is an expensive short life cycle. Beware.

Autel. The famous maker of the XSTAR. I purchased one for over $800 in 2017. I barely used it. A few months ago I needed to replace a battery. A simple battery. They discontinued the XSTAR and will not supply batteries making the drone trash. Do not buy from Autel. They will not support your expensive purchase.
