Solid follow up to first installment
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Avengers: Age of Ultron was a very good action movie that introduced new characters but still allowed time for character development. Some of the fight scenes seemed a bit gratuitous, and the pacing was not as well measured as in the first film. I thought the strongest moments were in the scenes between the action, Hawkeye as a family man, and the Avengers competing to lift Thor's hammer. It finished with a cliffhanger and a hopeful note, and the new team that is assembled, while less known than the original cast, has the potential to match the original members for viewer interest and power. The additions of the Falcon, Vision, War Machine, and Scarlet Witch are well chosen; hopefully, the Scott Lang Ant Man character (and possibly the Wasp?) will make it to a future installment. Even with that huge cast of characters, nobody seemed shortchanged on screen time. Marvel still has many great stories to tell, and I look forward to the Thanos/Infinity Gauntlet stories to be told in the next two movies. I only hope that they continue to incorporate SHIELD again going forward, as they had done in the Phase I and Phase II films. Clark Gregg, Cobie Smulders, and Samuel L. Jackson gave those films an anchor with respect to how ordinary people would interact with superheroes, aliens, and extraordinary threats to humanity.

Avengers

Steelbook review only
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.By this point most people have already formed an opinion on Age of Ultron, so I'll leave that for other reviews. As a steelbook, this is so close to greatness but hampered by some disappointing quality control. It's a smooth matte black with some really well done spot gloss on both the logo and back artwork. The problem is that literally every copy I have seen of both this (and the Vision edition) have misaligned debossing on the front cover. Debossing on a steelbook means that certain areas of the steel are recessed in order to give the image depth. In this case, the front A has recessed areas that, unfortunately, don't actually follow the image properly. While not end of the world, especially considering how well done the rest of the steelbook is, it's disappointing that this wasn't corrected at the factory.

Great Film!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fun movie. I saw in the theater & finally bought the BD. Very good Picture Quality. Audio is an issue, however. I had read about the disappointing audio before I watched it. I use an SPL meter to determine how loud to play my BDs, then I make a notation inside the case so the next time I watch it I can simply turn it to that volume. Typically I watch BDs between-10.0 and -12.5 dB. (0 being reference level) I always adjust the volume so that normal conversation is between 60– 65 dB, action scenes, gun fights etc. are in the 90s and the loudest explosions are no louder then 105 dB. I prefer 102-105 dB. Often, for Marvel movies, I have to turn the volume down to -12.5 and for most dramas...-10 is typical. To get this BD to sound decent (not great) I actually had to crank the volume all the way to -5.0 dB! This is the loudest I have ever had to play any BD! I think that is the main, although not sole, problem with the audio track on this BD. Obviously, most people don't use a sound meter and just turn the volume up a bit for this one. What I'm saying is... you need to turn the sound UP quite a bit. I would have rated it 5/5 if the audio was as good as most other action films.

must have for steelbook collection. ...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Marvel Studios presents the global phenomenon ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ is the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero film of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man [Robert Downey Jr.], Captain America [Chris Evans], Thor [Chris Hemsworth], The Incredible Hulk [Mark Ruffalo], Black Widow [Scarlett Johansson], Hawkeye [Jeremy Renner] and Nick Fury [Samuel L. Jackson], are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.

The Close to Phase 2
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While many people have seen the first Avengers movie, not everyone has seen the other Marvel movies. At least, not all of them. To say that this is just another Avengers movie is hard for me because I love and will continue to watch this movie over and over. But for people who aren't fans of Marvel or even superhero movies, this isn't going to be the movie for you. Yes it has it's ups and downs as should every movie but the complexity of the story is what I think led to this movie not being as good as the first. You as the movie patron had to of previously already watched the Phase 2 movies that have been released by Marvel/Disney. Other than that this is a pretty good superhero movie, I would have liked to see Marvel stick with the original Ultron storyline but that's a whole other story.

Best version to buy out there
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What you think of the movie is up to you (I dug it, personally) or the extras (I liked them but wish more had been included), the big takeaway from this particular version of Age of Ultron is the steelbook cover. Unlike a generic picture of every cast member slapped on the front like what you see on the standard releases, the steelbook offers something a lot more creative (the familiar Avengers' "A" symbol constructed in robotic silver, a la Ultron itself) and stands out much more than the usual boring movie poster covers we get. The option of having either Ultron or Vision on the back of either steelbook is a nice plus as well. If you really want Age of Ultron in your collection but prefer something with more aesthically interesting packaging, I strongly recommend this version.

Get your fast forward button ready
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Compared to the first Avengers movie, Age of Ultron has better action sequences, but unfortunately plods through extensive, annoying "character background" scenes. Of course, ladies want to see Thor with his shirt off, but this scene looks created simply to show that and not advance the plot whatsoever. If Thor has his shirt off, they should at least show Black Widow in a bikini to even things out. No one cares about Hawkeye's wife and kid; Jeremy Renner's agent must have negotiated more dull screen time for his client who looks like Daniel Craig with a bad hangover. The WORST part of this movie is the fake accents of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch; imagine Arnold Schwarzenegger doing a British accent while performing Hamlet, but much dumber. Get your fast forward button ready, skip to the action sequences, and you should be entertained. As Homer Simpson would say, this gets my worst review ever - seven thumbs up.
