Saw this during a screening and figured why not for the price.

This is a very funny movie. It is enjoyable to watch at times.

This movie is riotously funny for 45 minutes or so. Raucous, politically incorrect and funny. Then, it goes soft. Real soft. It apologizes for all the comedy that we just enjoyed with characters learning lessons and changing each other forever. Lame.

Jason Bateman stars in and directs this clever subversive comedy. Guy Trilby (Jason Bateman) a 40+ participates in a national spelling bee meant for young students by finding a loop hole in the rules. The fun begins with the irreverent behavior of Trilby as he hijacks the competition. A reporter (Kathryn Hahn) tries to find out for us his true motivation to win the title as he pushes ahead to the dismay of the parents, competitors and the officials. A 10-year-old "nerd" Chaitanya (Rohan Chand) who is a fellow competitor befriends Trilby and almost steals the show. Blue-ray disc presented in it's original format 2.40:1 with extra features: deleted/extended scenes, The Minds and Mouths Behind Bad Words, and Feature Commentary with Director Jason Bateman.

I thought this movie was hilarious! I didn't go in with high expectations. I mean, really how far can you take a storyline about a 40 something year old entering a spelling bee? I was greatly surprised at the depth of the story and was laughing the entire movie. For someone that acts completely unlikable, you really start to accept the main character and realize his motives.

This is literally one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. If you're easily offended, this is not the movie for you. Jason Bateman is EPIC.
