The best portrayals of Batman I've ever seen

When I first heard of this new adaptation of the franchise, I saw David S. Goyer's name as the script writer and because of Blade's scripts was debating it, but my skepticism was quickly put to rest. I was more than impressed, I loved it! I immediately bought it after returning it to blockbuster. We all know the story/legend of Batman aka Bruce Wayne, but to me, no one's ever nailed it this well. Tim Burton tried to make it dark and funny, it wore thin after awhile. When Joel Schumacher took over the directing they got too silly. With this and DK, Chris Nolan and David Goyer took the story and finally got it right-it wasn't supposed to be campy/funny, this to me would've made the creator of the comics proud. The cast is pretty good too, some actors even play roles you never thought could/would do roles like this-Christian Bale does both a good Bruce Wayne and Batman, Cillian Murphy does a good dr.Crane and Liam Nesson does a role I've never seen before. When you watch these though, I suggest you don't compare the other versions, these stand alone.

Great movie, from top to bottom

I loved this movie. I tend to like superhero movies, but really only go for ones that have a decent plot, real (well, relatively) characters, and a tendency to shy away from campiness and cliches. The cinematography, score, and amazing actors (being able to convey emotions without speech, which seems rare in this genre) all gave this film a dark, gritty feeling. The director's and producers' agreement to keep Batman in the real world as much as possible certainly added to the feeling of intensity and gravitas of the movie. Good special features too, someone did their job paying attention to making the whole feature good. Making ofs and what not. Commentary was limited, but that seems to be the case these days.

    Great Movie, Great Gift Set

Aside from being regarded as one of the best superhero movies ever (or movies in general), this is a great Blu-ray. The editing, musical score, action sequences and overall compilation of the movie is very fluid and cohesive unlike other movies of this genre, not to mention the CGI is hardly noticeable as most of the action sequences are real and not computer generated *rather computer enhanced.* The great acting, the strong plot, and good character development, this is a movie that pretty much everyone should have. Now onto the Blu-ray/Giftset portion. The lenticular image is pretty cool and is made of very hard and thick cardboard unlike previous lenticular images. There are 2 mini booklet inserts: 1 is a comicbook adaptaion of the Imax prologue (first 6 minutes of the Dark Knight included in the Blu-ray at 1080p...) the second is pretty much the same thing with the imax images. Now onto the better part... $7.50 towards a Dark Knight movie ticket. Pretty much everyone who buys this gift set or this movie will be intersted to see the Dark Knight, and this ticket is redeemable at many theatres. I pretty much discounted the $7.50 from the price of the gift set as I am going to see the Dark Knight in the theatres at least once anyways. There appears to be no actual blu-ray title screen, instead the movie auto loads and you use the pop-up menu to access all of the features. I've found that in some features the controls aren't responsive such as the pop-up menu, etc... but that may be my particular case although I don't believe that to be so. I don't think it's the best Blu-Ray i've come across in terms of functionality and would really rate this product a 4-4.5, but the movie is just that good. Regardless, the quality of the movie is great and very up to blu-ray standards and well worth the money if you really like Batman Begins AND plan to see the Dark Knight.

    The Beginning of a Legend...

I will try to skip going over a synopsis of this film, as I'm sure you can find one elsewhere. I will say that this film is utterly fantastic, brilliant, and well-written. It is now one of my all-time favorite films. I will now focus on the DVD. The first disc includes (of course) the film itself. The picture quality is amazing. Everything is very clear and sharp with nice, vibrant colors. It could not be better. The sound is a little harder to judge. I do not have a surround sound setup, and therefore cannot say what it sounds like coming through 6 speakers, etc. But even with the good old-fashioned 2-speaker stereo setup, the sound is clear and dynamic. A very good job all-around. Also on the first disc is the trailer for the film and the hilarious Batman Begins spoof, "Tankman Begins". The second disc includes the rest of the special features. Most of these are short documentaries, each focusing on a specific behind-the-scenes topic. Everything you will want to know is covered, from the forming of the film's story to casting the characters, from building the Batman suit to the creation of the spectacular visual effects. All of these features are accesible through a creative, "interactive comic-book" format. Also on the second disc are some 'character files'; short biographies for the fictional characters in the film. There are also a few hidden features for those who wish to hunt them out. All in all, this is an excellent DVD release of an excellent film, and worth every penny of the price.

    5* flick, 4* 4k UHD

Don't get me wrong, BATMAN BEGINS is a modern classic. I saw it many times in theaters and already own it on Collector Edition DVD & 1080p BR. Even though director Nolan supervised/approved this 4k UHD release, WB cheaply elected not to rescan a new 4k Digital Intermediate from original captures. (Hasn't this film raked in enough $$$ to merit a new 4k DI Master???) So, this is one of those 2kDI-to-4kUHD discs that can be disappointing on reference 4k equipment. First, there is an overall loss of fine detail, in favor of faux filmic grain, that's only slightly better than the 1080p HD BR release. Second, a considerable amount of detail is lost in the highly crushed blacks of nighttime scenes and in the Batcave. (This was a major cinematographic challenge even as the film was being made.) What made this 4k BR finally collectable for me is the recently inaugurated, ongoing BB/WB sale, 3 4k-s for US$50, that includes all of the individual Nolan Batman Trilogy as individual 4k BRs. Since the official Trilogy 4k "boxed set" is just the three stand-alone 4k BR releases (with no other boxed set extras/benefits) and remains priced well above US$60-$70, I decided to collect this 4k title at this time. Recommended only to 4k complete-ists and those who own 4k equipment and don't already have the 1080p BR. (The bundled Digital Copy redeems as 4k UHD with UltraViolet and MoviesAnywhere.)

A perfect way to restart the franchise

To my surprise, even the script was well done-David S. Goyer's scripts from Blade, esp. the language disgusted me, but here he did a very nice job. Christian Bale puts on the cape as Batman and is very good as Bruce Wayne. Some actors you could never imagine seeing in these kind of roles, do an excellent job too. I bought this right after returning it to Blockbuster, I couldn't wait! Bruce's history is re-done very well, even though we've seen it all before, but the creators here finally took the story and got it right, Tim Burton tried to make it too dark mixed with humor, Joel Schumacher tried to make it too cartoonish, that didn't work either, Chris Nolan and David Goyer took the story and didn't miss a beat. This and DK I think would make the comics creator proud. The other charecters are very-well done as well, the good is easy to distinguish from the bad, overall. I find it hard to believe that any fan of the comics could hate this or DK, a word of advice, when you watch these, forget everything you've seen and take these on their own merits. check 'em out!

    best superhero so far

christain bale is one the best actors of our time. he gets into character perfectly for every movie and nails the batman role(hes the perfect choice like robert downey jr was for iron man). on top of that, this is the best superhero movie i have ever seen and most critics thought that, too. yea sure the new hulk and iron man might be great, but this is fantastis. cillian murphy does a surprisingly good job as the scarecrow. thomas wilkerson aces the role of valconey(or however you spell it). all the suporting gets the job doen. and im possotive that heath ledger will be the best villian in superhero movie history. anyway, the story to batman begins was the best of all comic movies and the darkness of the film helped out a lot. and any batman fan will absolutley love this one, and im not a superhero movie person, and i still loved it. and of course it looks great being on blu-ray, but all movies do. overall, this was superb, and dark knight will be better.

    Batman done the right way

Despite the success of Tim Burton's good-looking but dramatically lacking 1989 Batman, it wasn't until this film that the Caped Crusader would finally get the big screen justice that Christopher Reeve & co. gave to Superman (hence why this pic is called Batman Begins & the Superman revival was called Superman Returns). Although some have criticized the tone of voice he uses, Christian Bale brings the pathos & energy to the title role which Michael Keaton failed (or was unable) to bring. Bruce Wayne travels the world acquiring the means to fight for justice following his parents' death. He later finds himself fighting the very man who mentored him (Liam Neeson) & the diabolical Scarecrow (Cillian Murphy). Like Superman, this film has an appropriately epic feel which allows the viewer to get into the mind of the main character and discover what drives him. My favorite scenes are Batman & Gordon (Gary Oldman) forging their professional bond.

    Excellent movie!!!

This movie was absolutely amazing, my wife and I love it! After the original Batman(1989), all the other Batman movies became a joke. They kept changing Batman actors, they tried cramming to many characters into the movies, and the over all films just became comedical kids movies. Now, starting over, they're doing it right! Batman, according to the comics, was sort of a bad good guy,(much like the Punisher.) Batman comics were originally meant to be very dark and serious, not funny! It got that wrap from cartoons and the TV shows from the 50s and 60s. The 1989 version and Batman Returns were close, but still some what comedical. The new Christian Bale Batman is sticking to it's roots, and becoming the dark and serious, more sinister Batman it was intended to be. (Unless you're a fan of the old goofy Batman and Robin spoof, then you'll love this movie.) I thoroughly enjoyed this film and highly recommend it along with The Dark Knight!

Batman Begins is to the Batman franchise what Casino Royale was to the Bond franchise - a desperately needed shot in the arm and breath of life for a series that had grown stagnant. In the case of the Batman series, it was thanks to an absolute garbage fest from Joel Schumacher, the truly awful and detestable Batman and Robin which was more like a live action cartoon than a film. Christopher Nolan starts fresh, showing the origins of Batman and how he became the man he is in a truly classy way without just rehashing the same old story about how he lost his parents. Christian Bale is BRILLIANT in his execution not only as Batman, but as Bruce Wayne. This is the first time that an actor has pulled off both personas perfectly. The presence of the Scarecrow and Ras Al'Guhl for the villain aspect is so well done by Cillian Murphy (best crazy man ever!) and Liam Neeson respectively. I can't wait for The Dark Night, it will be monumental and above all, epic.

After what we now associate with the character of Batman, it's hard to remember just how he was perceived before 2005. Batman Begins was a flawless start to a new era for Bruce Wayne, reinvigorating a series that had veered off into a neon-soaked direction. The name of officer who recovered the Joker card seen at the end is J. Kerr. Joe Kerr is one of The Joker's (more obvious) pseudonyms in the comics. Nolan’s pitch to Warner Bros that won him the directing job took just 15 minutes. The little kid Rachel rescues is played by Jack Gleeson, aka Joffrey from Game of Thrones. Although Christopher Nolan was determined that the film use as little CGI as possible it still included around 600 special effects shots.

If you dont like Batman movies, i dont blam you because Joel Schumacher really ruined the name of Batman with his campy Batman movies. But give Batman a chance. This is the movie you should watch. If you know nothing about Batman, then youll like this movie more. The story takes place right at the begining, ignoring all previous Batman movies, and just starts the Franchise over. The whole movie explains the troubles with Bruce Wayne, and why he feels necessary to do something as crazy as dress up as a Bat and fight crime. Its a serious film that shouldnt be missed

Easily the most enjoyable superhero film in recent memory, because this Christopher Nolan directed gem doesn't feel like a superhero movie at all. It is simply a fantastic movie highlighted by my favorite Michael Caine role (as Alfred) in ages. The blu-ray transfer looks identical to the HDDVD version, which is a great thing, because the film looks amazing in hi def. A very sharp encode complete with an exceptional 3D appearance. This movie is a treat from start to finish. For the money, a must-have for blu-ray owners. Buy it and sit back and enjoy.

I have always been a huge batman fan, but this movie is just awesome, everything about it is great. this movie is alot more realistic than the 90's batman movies, i love how they filmed the movie and used as little cgi as possible, most of what you see is real. the plot is excellent and i really like that they so bruce wayne in the transitioning from just an ordinary citizen into the caped crusader rather than just jumping into a story line.

I like Michael Keaton and Val Kilmer better. But this movie was good, it was alright, and Liam Nelson played a good role in the film as bruce’s Dark mentor. Cilian Murphy played a wicked blue eyed scarecrow. So it was okay, but not the Batman I remember, but better than Clooney and affleck.

Batman Begins is one of the best superhero movies to date period. Watching the movie on Blu Ray is the only way to experience it. While it didnt have quite the box office impact as Dark Knight, it was every bit as good, which says a lot. The villains are amazing, the story is rich, and it gives you an idea of how Batman evolved to the character more famously portrayed in Dark Knight. The extras contain documentries on various aspects of how the movie was made. I would highly recommend this Blu Ray to anyone who is either a super hero fan or anyone who wants to get the most out of their HD experience.

This movie was amazing. The plot was very engaging and compared to the first movie with Jack Nicholson and introducing Batman, this one was a way better plot to introduce how he became the Batman. The way this movie portrayed him growing into the dark knight and how he disappears randomly when talking to Gordon matches DC Comics right on. It is rare for me to own a DVD of a movie and keep it, but this one is definitely a keeper. Since the bluray came out, it has definitely been added to my Christmas list for 2008, even though I have the DVD bluray better! =)

What I really liked about this movie is how they actually showed his training, no other batman movie prior to this has shown any training. I am also a big fan of all the cast member especially morgan freeman, christian bale, and liam neeson. They also did a good job explaining where he got all his gadgets and gizmos and his tank of a car, which prior had been something left out of the movies. Lastly scarecrow wasn't as impressive as I wanted him to be, but Liam Neeson stepped it up and was a good challenge for Batman.
