One of my favorite animated films from DC Comics

Big fan of DC Comics animated movies. Since I never got around to getting the original Blu-ray release of Batman: The Killing Joke, I picked up this 4K edition of it to finally add it to my collection. Not disappointed, loved the film based on the dark and gritty tone, aimed for adults. I am happy to finally add this title to my collection and I highly recommend it if you're a fan of DC Comics animated movies based on Batman and the Joker.

    Best Animated Batman Movie

This film was true to the comic 100%. Voice activing was top notch. A lot of people complained about the Batgirl storyline but I say it wasn't too degrading. It's definitely the reason the movie received the R rating, which I completely agree with. But, the outrage the movie is getting is uncalled for. It's just an animated movie. Life is not happy, good times, so don't expect movies to be. If you want those types of movies, become a director or writer and make your own movies.

I love comics and I do love that they animated this story line! It is a bit gory so maybe not for kids. I do love that they gave Batgirl a story line. Some might see she is being objectified. I would disagree. Must watch if you love Batman comics.

Very good movie! Lots of surprises for a Batman animated movie. I definitely wouldn't recommend this Batman animation for kids. This is truly a graphic , dark animated movie. If you get a chance to, read the book first. You could really get a feel for this movie. Overall its a good pick up for any Batman fan.

One of My Favorite Batman Animated Movies

I've been a Batman fan since 1966 and have seen virtually every Batman movie, TV show and animated series. I always loved "Batman the Animated Series" from the '90s and this film brings together the original cast - Kevin Conroy as Batman, Mark Hamill as the Joker. No voices could be better for a Batman animated feature. The story is based on the original graphic novel of the same name and although not exact, it's still very close and very enjoyable.

Great take on a classic story

Many people will begin with saying that the first 20 mins of the film are useless but it adds a different element to Batgirl that the graphic novel doesn't show. They expand on more than her just being a driving motivation for Batman and Commissioner Gordon. The animation is loose and clean. The returning voices of Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamil just add to the flare so well. The Collectors edition set is cool and come with a pretty sweet Joker figure. Totally worth it.

This is definitely worth a buy if you love the Batman mythos. The part of the movie that is actually about The Killing Joke is great. Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamil return and give superb performances as Batman and the Joker. Mark Hamil really brings life to the "Loooooooney" song. However, the first half of the movie is where they erred. They made the first half of the movie about Barbara Gordon in an attempt to make her more than a plot device. Needless to say, it didn't work. The antagonist set up in opposition to Barbara Gordon/Batgirl is bland and unimaginative. The relationship of Barbra and Bruce was completely unnecessary. I think the animators forgot that this is a story about the Joker and should have made the expanded material about this Joker. Overall, the move isn't terrible but it isn't great either.

The film is a very accurate portrayal of the great graphic novel. The introduction is the animators effort to prolong the story and build more importance to a significant character in the graphic novel/film. It's a little long, but still is more of a positive than a negative addition to a solid story.

The comic somehow was better. I don't know if its the over acting or just the acting? But you must re-read the comic to see what I mean. If you know nothing about this story you will be happy. A lot of people are now getting into superhero's now, and that's great. But read the old stories first.

Having read the comic and then seen the movie, this was a pretty great adaptation of the graphic novel. There was one minor snag which involved Bruce Wayne and Barbara Gordon having a love tiff, but otherwise the last 30 minutes were perfect. Plus Mark Hamill as the Joker is always great!

Overall a pretty cool cartoon movie story based on the graphic novel. The story is pretty graphic & violent & getting a better idea of the inner-workings of the Batman - Batgirl relationship was surprising. Only thing I wasn't crazy about was the very ending, but you can make up your own mind.

I knew this before watching it and have read the graphic novel, this is more a Joker/ Jim Gordon story than a Batman story. I enjoyed the movie, but knew what I was getting into ahead of time. This is graphic, and might be somewhat disturbing for some viewers, but this is who the Joker is.

The killing joke was an exciting animated movie for adults, I would not recommend this movie for kids though. It had some parts that were not appropriate, it wasn't the violence so much as the adult content that bothers me most for childen under 18 unless you are going to watch it with them and explain some of the shocking scenes. The Ghost in the shell was okay not one of my favorites but it was pretty good and fine for children around thirteen.

The Killing Joke, along with the Bane storyline are two of the most unique sequences in the Batman collection. This package offered both the comic and a miniature statue along with the blu-ray. My only complaint was that many of the packages where I bought it from were damaged.

Outside of the first 20 minutes of the movie not being apart of the original comic book graphic novel the movie was good. DC still delivers great anime films. The more mature content in the film should definitely shy the younger audience away from it till they are old enough for this one.

Not an exact match to the comic

As this was a pretty good animated movie, it is not an exact match to the comic. I understand WB needed to extend the comic out to have a standard length movie, but a broken love story between bruce and Barbara just didn't seem to fit. I liked the movie, was just confused on that portion.

The first 20 min are just added filler that doesn't do much for the story, has an interesting little twist but it's not needed the original story is great enough. Animation is kinda weak, but with Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamil as the voice cast it's definitely worth a watch, I'd rent it.

Bought when on sale (Deal of the Day) as a package with Batman: The Telltale Series. Worth it as part of the package - otherwise just a good Batman cartoon. I wouldn't buy stand alone at full price, but for those that like animated Batman, you'd probably appreciate it more that I do.

The Killing Joke is a timeless Batman and Joker story. The cartoon adaptation of the comic is done as well as it could have been done. It's worth watching and it's a good buy. The special features are fun to watch as well. Anyone that is a fan of the comic will enjoy this cartoon.

Batman: The Killing Joke -Choking on the big stage

Batman: The Killing Joke certainly has its moments, but ultimately the film adaptation of the graphic novel suffers from a completely unnecessary prologue and a main story that was rather forgettable in the first place. While, the chemistry between Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill is as strong as ever. However, with the addition of thirty minutes of criminals drooling all over Batgirl, the two segments play out like two unrelated episodes of the animated series slapped together at the last minute to make a half-assed movie. The animated film has a few stand out moments, but is otherwise devastatingly disappointing.
